May 21, 1978 St. Louis Globe-Democrat article on Dee Boeckmann

[edit]

Hello. I'm looking for a May 21, 1978 article in the St. Louis Globe-Democrat by June Wuest Becht about Dee Boeckmann. Problem is, I don't know the article's name as it's only mentioned here. There's a possibility the article mentions her first name as Delores as Dee was her nickname. Thanks! --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 18:05, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@MrLinkinPark333: if you're just after confirmation that he full name was Delores, there are plenty of newspaper reports that can confirm that. Is this 1978 article about anything more specific? Nthep (talk) 14:18, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Nthep: The reason why I mentioned Delores was just in case her given first name was different in the newspaper. The article talks about her Amateur Athletic Union records on page 147 of the above book (I accidentally linked to the wrong page). --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 15:44, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Definitely Delores, I've added a ref to the LA Times which names her as Delores (Dee) Boeckmann. Nthep (talk) 16:05, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the expand. The above St. Louis article could help with her amateur career. --MrLinkinPark333 (talk) 16:16, 5 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For Ada Wright and Black Friday (1910).

I can see this on britishnewspaperarchive.co.uk, but I don't have access. I searched for "Ada Wright 1910". The article quotes Emmeline Pankhurst saying something about Ada Wright on Black Friday, November 1910. Many thanks, SarahSV (talk) 00:13, 5 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Suffragette Remembers Comrades in Will By Our London Correspondent

STIRRING days of the Suffragettes’ fight for freedom are recalled to-day by the publication of the will of Miss Ada Cecile Granville Wright, of Granville Road, North Finchley, London, who was the central figure in a dramatic scene outside the House of Parliament. Miss Wright left £24,580 gross (£17,045 net). In her will she remembered several other famous Suffragettes, notably Miss Christabel Pankhurst and Miss Flora Drummond. Bequests included an immediate legacy of £200 to her sister Blanche Eleanor Anne Wright, and also £3,500 (or if deceased £6OO to Christabel Pankhurst, and £lOO to Flora Drummond, of the Women’s Guild of Empire “for the agitation on behalf of animals ”); £l,OOO upon trust for her sister Agnes Gertrude Wright for life ; and then half to the Animal Defence and Anti-Vivisection Society, and half to the National Trust. She stated that the reason she had left more to her sister Blanche was that she had devoted most of her money to the Children’s Home at North Finchley, and left herself insufficiently provided for.” Other bequests included £1,600 to Christabel Pankhurst. £5O to the Suffragette Fellowship, £6O to Nurse Pine. formerly Mrs. Pankhurst’s nurse,” and £2OO to her friend. Flora Drummond. “Black Friday” Clash Miss Sylvia Pankhurst, sister of Christabel, told me to-day that Miss Wright was one of the “good old soldiers ” who went to prison several times because of her activities. "It was Black Friday,’ in November, 1910,” said Miss Pankhurst. “that Ada Wright was concerned in an ugly incident in Parliament Square, when we suffragettes were demonstrating outside the House. “ Mr. Churchill, then Home Secretary, had given orders that no more suffragettes were to be arrested, as it gave them too much notoriety, but tha they were to be driven away. “ Miss Wright was flung down by the police in the middle of the square. A man tried to protect her as she lay on the ground. “The police seized her again, and once more she went down. She got up, and again she was knocked down. “In the same bout of violence two other Suffragettes, Miss Henria Williams and Miss Haig, received such serious injuries that both later died. “Other women were also badly hurt.” Miss Flora Drummond told me: “All her life Ada Wright used her money to help others.”

Usernameunique, thank you for thinking of me, and Okeeffemarc thank you for writing this up! This is very kind. Extremely interesting to see more information about Ada Wright's will and a reference to what happened to her on Black Friday. That's quite a bit of money she left. @Jo-Jo Eumerus: ResearchGate is neither a journal nor a publisher but a platform for researchers to present their research. If the paper was published somewhere, feel free to let us know where and it might be possible to help. If it was not, you have to get in touch with the author (there is a "request full-text" button on the page). However, I suppose in that case doubts are merited whether the paper meets Wikipedia's verifiability guidelines/policies. -Gazal world (talk) 18:04, 7 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Review of The Homosexual Matrix

[edit]

{{resolved}} Hello. I am trying to get access to George Whitmore's review of the book The Homosexual Matrix, and would be grateful if anyone could help, as I would find it very useful. The review was published in The Advocate in 1975. Some details about the review are provided here. Note that while I have EBSCO access, that isn't enough by itself to get the actual text of Whitmore's review, otherwise I wouldn't be making this request. The Times obituary, 1897

[edit]

Is anyone able to find me a copy of the obit page(s) of The Times from 29 January 1897? The unlinked citation only reads: Obituary. Mrs Massingberd, The Times, 29 January 1897; pg. 10; Issue 35113. I just need to look through the text, so I don't mind if it's one of those nearly illegible Internet Archive scans. If it helps, the subject of the obituary, "Mrs Massingberd", went by several names throughout her life, including Emily Caroline Langton Massingberd, Emily Langton Massingberd, Emily Langton Langton, Emily Langton, Mrs Langton, Mrs Massingberd.

Thanks! My email is softlavenderwiki@gmail.com

Von Maier chapter or excerpt for GA review of Solo diving

[edit]

{{resolved}}

  • Von Maier, Robert (1991). "6: Opinions". Solo Diving. Watersport Publishing. ISBN 0-922769-13-3.

For Solo diving GA review. Challenged text is: The possible impression that solo divers are unsociable is often wrong. Most solo divers are normally gregarious and want to share their enjoyment of diving with others – they just want to do it when they get to the surface. The solitude they want to enjoy is during the dive. These solo divers take pleasure in this solitude and in the feeling of self-sufficiency for this style of diving, that one is not dependent on others, but is relying solely on one's own skills and capabilities. Finally, there is the sense of freedom, of not being impeded by the need to look after anyone but oneself and therefore being able to achieve one's own goal in the dive without compromising.
