Hillside School District 93

[edit]

{{resolved}} Would anyone mind checking Illinois newspapers for articles about Hillside School District 93? (in other words the "School District 93" in Hillside, Illinois?) - I'm trying to find information (particularly articles about non-routine events from say the Chicago Sun-Times or the Chicago Tribune) to bolster the article's notability on the Spanish Wikipedia.

Thanks! --WhisperToMe (talk) 13:40, 18 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sent nine others from Chicago Daily Tribune and Chicago Tribune between 1949 and 1971. --Worldbruce (talk) 06:42, 19 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Do you guys have access to academic article databases? The user who I am talking to feels the information in the Chicago Tribune does not confer enough notability. While I disagree with that, I feel that I need to have additional sources related to this district. Do any academic articles or PhD theses talk about this district? I tried looking at the University of Illinois and Illinois State University libraries but couldn't get access to their databases to find specific articles. If you find any, I would really appreciate it!

Also if you can get:

  • "Press Summary." Illinois Information Service., 1 Oct 1999 p. 11. No ISBN present. @BU Rob13: @Worldbruce:

Thank you, WhisperToMe (talk) 13:25, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I can't locate academic sources in my searching, and it's unlikely any exist. I don't know about any other-language Wikipedia's policies, but on enwiki, the Tribune articles likely confer notability. ~ Rob13Talk 14:22, 20 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@BU Rob13: Eswiki has the similar GNG policy text, but some users argue that the information on construction of the school and the bond failure in the 1970s is too routine and not encyclopedia-worthy. I wonder if there is an angle with the 1970s mental health program set up in conjunction with Northern Illinois University. If some other mental health journals/science journals wrote about it in detail this could be useful. WhisperToMe (talk) 00:07, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Zigzig20s: Which article is this being used to improve? ~ Rob13Talk 19:14, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ramchandran Jaikumar!Zigzig20s (talk) 19:15, 21 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: This likely can't be fulfilled without someone paying for it. It's an unpublished source maintained exclusively by Harvard Business School available for purchase. You could try emailing the author via the email listed on their webpage. That is likely the only chance of obtaining this without paying. There are no printed copies for volunteers to obtain via a library system, and it was never disseminated online. ~ Rob13Talk 22:17, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Could the Wikimedia Foundation buy it for us please? I can't afford it.Zigzig20s (talk) 22:51, 23 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: You could look for some form of micro-grant, certainly, but the WMF doesn't typically buy sources for editors. ~ Rob13Talk 05:35, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think they should change this bad habit!Zigzig20s (talk) 05:40, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Zigzig20s: Well, it's not really feasible to directly fund content creation in most cases, as many "good" sources cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. In this case, it only costs about $10, so it's not as bad, but still very unlikely to receive WMF support. You could try meta:Grants:Project/Rapid. ~ Rob13Talk 15:49, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Marking resolved since this is unobtainable without paying. ~ Rob13Talk 16:41, 24 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

👍 Like also, was there an index in the book you found? And I'm sorry to put more burden on you, but after reading the PDF, I think page 322 of the same book may also be needed because the first line of 323 continues a sentence (possibly a whole paragraph) from the previous page. Hope I am not causing you stress. --Kailash29792 (talk) 06:12, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There was an index, but it didn't contain "Miss Malani" as an entry. It was a very short index focusing only on main topics. I'll go back and scan 322 as well in a couple days. ~ Rob13Talk 15:33, 21 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Kailash29792: Unfortunately, no luck. The book doesn't have a section for Filmfare Awards South or an index. It's just a directory of all Bollywood films listed alphabetically. It likely notes which films won the awards in each of their entries, but it isn't feasible for me to read the entire directory to find all the information. @LeadSongDog and Kailash29792: I should clarify I accessed multiple editions (1991 and 2002) and the format was the same in each. The entire book is an A-Z directory of Bollywood films with no supplementary chapters on other topics, as well as no index/table of contents specific to finding any type of content. The page numbers vary by edition because more films are released and added to the directory, but the format has been constant as far as I can tell. ~ Rob13Talk 06:33, 25 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone have access to EEBO?

[edit]

Does anyone have EEBO access, and a moment to spare? In John Astley's Art of Riding … (London: Henrie Denham, 1584) there should be a sentence about "Pignatelli" and his school in Naples. I'd like the exact text of that sentence – and the page number! – for that article, but can't find it freely available on-line. Thanks, Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 10:05, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Justlettersandnumbers: Couldn't find a reference to pignatelli, I'm afraid. There are two mentions of Naples though: And what that worthie Gentleman Frederike Gryson was, euerie one knoweth, of nation an Italian (which nation hath long borne, and doth beare at this daie the onelie praise of this noble exercise) and of the citie of Naples most famous of all other in Jtalie in this respect and ...among the which I wold most gladlie, that M. Th. Blundeuile speciallie should haue a vew thereof, who hath alreadie gathered verie diligentlie the whole substance of that booke of the order of Riding, which was written by that excellent M. in that Art Frederike Gry. Any ideas? — O Fortuna semper crescis, aut decrescis 13:35, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking, Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi – a negative result is still a result. This is a salutary lesson on why we don't use unreliable sources. A blog source gives the quotation (in Italian) as Dalla scuola napoletana di Pignatelli uscivano non solo i migliori, ma i soli cavallerizzi d'Europa; the book he's quoting from, I now realise, is more careful: Dalla scuola napoletana di Pignatelli uscivano "non solo i migliori, ma i soli scudieri" d'Europa. The original text might be something like "…not just the best but the only riding-masters"; there may be no mention of Pignatelli, or there may be a sixteenth-century transliteration of the name. It's likely to be in the roughly in the same area as that stuff about Grisone (Gryson) and Blundeville. Please don't spend more than a few more moments on this at the absolute outside. Oh, and thanks again! Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 15:17, 2 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The first is the review by Dennis Forbes. It was published in The Advocate, 7/21/83, Issue 372, p50. ISSN: 0001-8996.

The second is the review by Boyd McDonald. It was published in the New York Native, 9/12/83, Issue 72, p40. Title: "Ba, Ka and Ca-ca".

The third is the review by Philip Kuberski. It was published in ELH. Volume 56, Issue 1, pp. 229-254. ISSN: 00138304. DOI: 10.2307/2873130. Title: "The metaphysics of postmodern death: Mailer's Ancient evenings and Merrill's The changing light at Sandover". There is a link to an extract from the review here.

@FreeKnowledgeCreator: For #2, it would seem the publication's archive is available at the New York Public Library; however, it would seem it does not include the actual periodical, only correspondence to the editorial board and issue metadata. It looks like the publication was controversial for most of its lifespan for dogmatically publishing claims about AIDS which were plainly contrary to scientific evidence[1]; I wouldn't be surprised if none of the (I imagine quite scholarly) entities who did archives of periodicals at the time thought the actual issues were worth preserving. Compassionate727 (T·C) 13:40, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for looking into this. I am aware of the history of the New York Native and its claims about AIDS, a subject with no relevance to my request. FreeKnowledgeCreator (talk) 21:44, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
