CIJ and more: early inscriptions on Jewish contributions to theatre
[edit]{{resolved}}
- Reece, Steve (2022-06-16). The Formal Education of the Author of Luke-Acts. London New York Oxford New Delhi Sydney: Bloomsbury Publishing. p. 174. ISBN 978-0-567-70589-1.
I wish I had access to the Corpus Inscriptionum Judaeorum. Can anybody connect me to these works, or provide screenshots of the pages in question?
A second-century bce inscription from the town of Iasos in Ionia (CIJ II 749) mentions a Jew named Nicetas, son of Jason the Jerusalemite, who supported the feast of Dionysus with a contribution of 100 drachmas; a first-century bce inscription from Berenice in Cyrenaica (SEG 16.931 = CJZC 70) mentions a financial contribution by a Jew named D. Valerius Dionysius for plastering the floor and painting the walls of the amphitheater; a Roman Imperial-era inscription from the theater of Miletus (CIJ II 748) designates a specific seating area in the theater for “Jews and God-fearers” (or perhaps “Jews who are also God-fearers”).
Thanks, Temerarius (talk) 17:01, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Temerarius: I can't help with the CIJ, I'm afraid, but send me a wikimail for the pages. SerialNumber54129 18:11, 2 November 2024 (UTC)
- Sent @Temerarius: plaese always refer to a book or magazine with the full title, never with an abbreviation alone, this is not clear outside the discipline.
- It took me quite a while to figure out that CIJ II stands for Corpus Inscriptionum Iudaicarum Vol. 2: Asie - Afrique OCLC 632456356, CJZC for Corpus jüdischer Zeugnisse aus der Cyrenaika, and SEG for Supplementum Epigraphicum Graecum.
- You should have access to SEG-online via The Wikipedia Library. CIJ Vol. I is on archive.org, with a free registration you can borrow it and read it online. Unfortunately Vol. II is missing there. FordPrefect42 (talk) 15:58, 9 November 2024 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I mistakenly wrote "Corpus Inscriptionum Judaeorum" instead of Corpus Inscriptionum Judaicarum. (With a J, while CI Iudaeae-Palaestiniae has an I.) I didn't know what SEG and CJZC meant, thank you. I'm not having any luck getting the SEG entry from SEG-online.

- Hi, thanks a lot, I received and responded to the second email with the pdf. Appreciate your help! Those reading at home, that's the middle one, and still seeking the first and third, the CIJ-only ones.
- Temerarius (talk) 16:10, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- @Temerarius I have sent you all three requests, that‘s why I am asking. FordPrefect42 (talk) 17:31, 10 November 2024 (UTC)

- @Artem.G: Do you have any other information on this (ISSN, ISBN, OCLC)? I'm not even sure if this was ever published outside of the conference, and searching online only returns the site you linked and the author's CV. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:12, 10 November 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, no, the only other mention is in that CV you've also found. Thanks for trying, will close the request as I don't think there is something essential there anyway. {{Resolved}} Artem.G (talk) 19:00, 12 November 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Martin Mourre «Comment restituer la violence? Enjeux méthodologique et politique quant à l’écriture des événements de Thiaroye», Les Temps modernes, 2017, Vol.2, n°693-694, pp.87-110
Thank you, IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 05:11, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- @IOHANNVSVERVS: The title doesn't match exactly here, but I have access to the article that matches the rest of the citation ("La répression de Thiaroye : Décrire les différents degrés de la violence coloniale"). Please add an email address to your account, then send me an email so I can reply with the article. Bsoyka (t • c • g) 13:56, 11 November 2024 (UTC)
- I have access to that work via Wikipedia Library.
- I'm a bit confused myself as to what exactly I'm trying to find. In Les ressacs de la mémoire collective. Étude de cas à partir de la répression de Thiaroye 44 au Sénégal by Martin Mourre, there is a footnote which says "Pour une discussion plus poussée sur le nombre de victimes, voir Mourre, «Comment restituer la violence?»" ("For further discussion of the number of victims, see Mourre, «Comment restituer la violence?»")
- According to this site I found via Google [2] there is an article: Comment restituer la violence? Enjeux méthodologique et politique quant à l’écriture des événements de Thiaroye, dans: Les Temps modernes, Les guerres africaines et la France, coordonné par Etienne Smith (à paraitre)
- Thank you, IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 07:45, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- And if you do find anything please email to shawn.talsma@hotmail.com. Thanks again. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 09:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- @IOHANNVSVERVS: FYI, in your above reference, à paraitre means it has not yet been published. Note Mourre's most recent five articles are all marked as such. SerialNumber54129 10:19, 12 November 2024 (UTC)
- Excuse me for not replying.
- Thank you for pointing this out. I plan on emailing the author to see if I can get to the bottom of this. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 12:11, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Should I mark this as resolved? @Serial Number 54129. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 12:12, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- @IOHANNVSVERVS: Before you do, is there anything else I can look for? His book is available here (although only to read online, rather than download, unfortunately), but you've probably seen that. Otherwise, good luck with Mourre—he must be annoyed at having five publications backed up like that! SerialNumber54129 12:34, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the offer. I'll try to remember to report back to you if I get a response to my email. Going to close this as resolved for now.
- Thanks again also @Bsoyka. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 12:41, 13 November 2024 (UTC)
