Slippery Rock football (Pennsylvania) 1936/1937 wire service story declaring them national champions
[edit]{{stale}}
The 1936 Slippery Rock Rockets football team were apparently named as national champions via the transitive property by a sports writer in 1936/1937. The column was then carried across the country by a wireservice.
This 'urban legend" is repeated in many tertiary sources, but without an original source that I can find.

The author of the 1936 article is not stated. It was perhaps by Bill Cunningham of Boston: https://www.newspapers.com/clip/116134498/slippery-rock-1936-national-champions/
It has to have been written after Nov 21, 1936. Most likely in Dec 1936 or Jan 1937
I'm searching for the author's name, the original column, or the wire service stories. Thanks!
For articles College football national championships, 1936 Slippery Rock Rockets football team, etc.
Thanks, PK-WIKI (talk) 00:52, 10 January 2023 (UTC)
- PK-WIKI, as you have probably worked out, if the article was by Cunningham, then it was likely in the Boston Post. Unfortunately, I don't see online archives of that paper beyond the early 1920s. --Usernameunique (talk) 09:03, 14 February 2023 (UTC)

Michael Astour
[edit]{{resolved}} I am close to completing the article on the scholar Michael Astour, drafted here. I lack three review articles, namely
I wonder if someone or -two or-three here could be so kind as to email the three reviews in question, so that I can complete the article and allow it to enter mainspace?

Pierre Berthelot, Duplessis est encore en vie
[edit]- Berthelot, Pierre B. (2021). Duplessis est encore en vie. Quebec City: Editions du Septentrion. ISBN 2-89791-224-3. OCLC 1237505897.
The French version of this article says that apparently, while travelling from Quebec City to Schefferville just before his death, Maurice Duplessis stopped on the border of Labrador on the Quebec side and urinated in the general direction of Newfoundland to protest what Quebeckers consider an illegal land grab of (parts of) Labrador by the Newfies (see also Newfoundland and Labrador-Quebec border). A lot of sources listed there are not exactly the ones I would use due to quality concerns, but this one definitely is good. The question I have is whether this source states that this indeed happened or whether it is just an artistic invention of a TV series. The page in this book is unfortunately not given in the article, and I have no idea where this could be. Also, I have doubts about the issue because Conrad Black, who wrote an extensive biography, says that he flew there, so he couldn't have done that mid-air. Pinging Danalieth as the author of the passage. Szmenderowiecki (talk) 13:13, 24 January 2023 (UTC)
For Maurice Duplessis, potentially also Newfoundland and Labrador-Quebec border.

I would appreciate if someone could show me what the book says about Frank Gaziano and Pete Gorgone so I could create articles on them. Thanks, BeanieFan11 (talk) 00:21, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

- Hi, @BeanieFan11, probably the reason nobody can find this book is because it is actually self-published through CreateSpace publishing. I wouldn't consider this a reliable source. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:05, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Eddie891: Though, it says here (also google books) that it was through the publisher "SPORTeBOOK" (also, it lists a different isbn there then from the one at your link). BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:12, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- @BeanieFan11, the connection between 'Fausto Batella' and SPORTeBOOK's owner of 'studio batella' reeks of self-publishing as does the fact that all the books they have published are by the same guy, as does my complete inability to find any commentary on any books by this publisher. I'd say either unreliable or self-published, and probably both, unfortunately. Eddie891 Talk Work 16:22, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- @Eddie891: Well, even if it is self-published, from what I'm seeing, Batella probably could be considered a "subject-matter expert" on Italian football - there's an article discussing him and his books from the magazine OnMilwaukee here, and it seems he was a prominent member of the Pro Football Researchers Association, with their magazine, The Coffin Corner, publishing an obituary on him when he died in 2019 ([4]). BeanieFan11 (talk) 16:36, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
- That's a fair enough argument to make. Eddie891 Talk Work 17:58, 24 March 2023 (UTC)
