Help with simplifying/subtemplate creating
Hi, I've created Template:Aircraft specs as way to automatically convert specifications into other units (among other things). Its done thru a series of #if functions. The template has grown quite large, but is basically the same code repeated over and over. I'd like to create a subtemplate and just call it multiple times, but can't seem to get the coding down. I've created a subtemplate Template:Aircraft specs/parameter, and moved one of the parameter loops there:
{{
#if:{{{length m|}}}
|* '''Length:''' {{convert|{{{length m|}}}|m|ftin|abbr=on}} {{{length note|}}}
|{{#if:{{{length ft|}}}
|{{#if:{{{length in|}}}
|* '''Length:''' {{convert|{{{length ft|}}}|ft|{{{length in|}}}|in|m|abbr=on|disp=flip}} {{{length note|}}}
|* '''Length:''' {{convert|{{{length ft|}}}|ft|m|abbr=on|disp=flip}} {{{length note|}}}
}}
}}
}}
I would like to allow the word "length" to be a variable (renamed of course, to perhaps "parameter"), so that Template:Aircraft specs/sandbox pass the parameter "length", "span", etc to it. maybe this is done by adding the code {{Aircraft specs/parameter|length}}, {{Aircraft specs/parameter|span}}, ...
.
I hope I've explained it clearly enough, any help or suggestions would be appreciated. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 21:00, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Well, some simplification using a subtemplate is possible, but it won't be as short as
{{Aircraft specs/parameter|length}}
. Something like{{Aircraft specs/parameter|Length|{{{length m|}}}|{{{length ft|}}}|{{{length in|}}}|{{{length note|}}}}}
should work, but it's not very pretty. Svick (talk) 23:03, 31 July 2010 (UTC)
- Could it be done with
{{Aircraft specs/parameter|Parameter Name (Caps on)|parameter name|parameter unit|unit 2|unit 3}}
or do the parameter names need to be spelled out exactly? - Trevor MacInnis contribs 18:07, 3 August 2010 (UTC)

date never showing
I am trying to get it so that {{Cite GameFAQs}} (a wrapper template for cite web) will not display the date if its left blank, but still show it if it is filled in regardless of the coding format. 陣内Jinnai 22:31, 1 August 2010 (UTC)

Different colored links for stubs.
You should make it so the links throughout the whole site will be of a different color if they direct to a stub article. That way you can avoid the stubs if you prefer.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.19.86.40 (talk • contribs)
- Interesting idea; not sure how achieveable that would be. In any case I would recommend bringing this up at the idea lab so that the implications can be explored. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 15:20, 12 August 2010 (UTC)
- Stubs are only identified by user-added templates - it would require a tremendous amount of computational overhead to figure out if pages are stubs (basically you'd have to load each link on a page to check to see it the page has a stub template - or load a special 'stub category' page to see if a given link is included - and then re-color the link after the fact. I can't imagine that the result would be worth the overhead, not without some significant changes to the underlying structure of the wiki. --Ludwigs2 08:22, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- If you registered an account, you could set a preference (click the Appearance tab) so that all links to pages with less than bytes are in different color. Svick (talk) 12:21, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Dates in chronological order
Concerning Template:Vgrelease. Could manual sorting be implemented for the release dates? I mean the order the fields in a single call are used: Currently, the template always displays JP -> NA -> PAL -> EU -> AUS, no matter which order you use in the template call. For example, {{vgrelease|NA|January 21, 1998|JP|January 29, 1998|PAL|May 8, 1998}}
will display...
JP comes before NA although it is used after NA in the call. The code above should actually result in this:
I don't know how hard that is to achieve, just thought I'd request it here as the current method of using separate template calls for manual sorting is just clunky, confusing to editors, and a waste of space (for the above example, we currently have to use {{vgrelease|NA=January 21, 1998}}{{vgrelease|JP=January 29, 1998|PAL=May 8, 1998}}
to get the desired output). Prime Blue (talk) 09:20, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Film series/franchise infobox requested
There are several articles regarding various film franchises that utilize the "film" infobox. I think there is too much information requested in this infobox for a series of films. For a series like the first group of Star Wars movies, where the writers, producers and directors are mostly the same for all three films, it's usable. However, a series like Friday the 13th with a total of 12 movies (including the 2009 reboot), each with a different writing/directing/producing team, the infobox could be longer than the article. To illustrate this, I completed an "infobox film" template (see below) with all the information I could find already aggregated onto one page. If I had researched these movies more, I could have easily expanded with entries for screenplay, release dates, actors (a list long enough to warrant a separate article), etc, etc.
I propose a shorter infobox with only the core production information that is likely to be carried over across all or most of the movies in the series. In addition, there should be statistical information related to the entire franchise such as total revenue, number of films. I think this would be a very useful tool. I've made a table with the info that I feel should be included. Compare it to the infobox and I think you'll see my point.
Thank you, Brendanmccabe (talk) 00:57, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
- It is worth noting, not all of the data is 100% accurate and none of it is verified.

Template:Google Warehouse
A template indicating that a model of the device/vehicle, ... which the particular article discusses exists in Google Warehouse should be created. It should be similar to the wikibooks/wikiversity, ... templates. I got the idea seeing that some historically important vehicles, ... are already available at Google Warehouse, see http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=e5a7a353d5fa8df844b2fa2cac0778f5 In addition, fabricators that want to make a new type of device, or simply recreate a vehicle, device, ... would require a 3D model. Thus, this template would be very useful/important. KVDP (talk) 07:46, 16 September 2010 (UTC)

{{Track listing}}
The core issue is that the template doesn't dynamically scales to adjust for potential infoboxes and other boxes, currently the template has a hard coded width (actually hard coded margin on the right) to work fine with the infobox when users use the default settings (220px image width), but when using a larger, custom, size (250px or 300px) the table moves down to make way for the infobox, creating huge chunks of whitespace. Xeworlebi (talk) 22:59, 4 December 2010 (UTC)
- I've attempted to fix the problem, though it causes other issues. The way I re-wrote it, it'll expand to the entire available space, however if there are multiple calls to the template and the available space varies between one track listing and the next (e.g., an infobox comes to an end), the layout will vary. For example, change all the
{{tracklist}}
templates on Garage Inc. to{{Track listing/sandbox}}
— if your screen is wide enough, when you preview the changes (don't save them), you'll see that the first track listing is narrower than the other 3 because of the infobox. This could be fixed in most cases by wrapping the entire set in<div>...</div>
tags, but that would have to be done on a page-by-page basis. I can't see any other way of writing it unless you just use a larger hard-coded right margin and hope for the best.
- Give the sandbox changes a try on a few pages and if everything looks good, let me know, or just add a section to its talk page with an {{edit protected}} tag and ask an admin to copy the sandbox to the template page. If you do, you may want to point to, or copy, this discussion so there's a record of what we're fixing and what changes in behaviour it introduces. – RobinHood70 talk 23:48, 6 December 2010 (UTC)
- Nice work, there are still some beauty issues with collapsed lists. The table (not the track list itself but the outside border when collapsing is on) goes behind the infobox and the

is on the left instead of on the right as it is now (and usual with collapsed tables). Try it at Human Target (2010 TV series)#Soundtrack. Other than that the scaling was exactly what I was hoping for, in that the table gets smaller when there something in the way and goes full width when not. Family tree for the Shishman dynasty
Greetings! I would like to request a family tree for the Shishman dynasty. It should look as the family tree used in the article Ivan Vladislav of Bulgaria. Here you can see the family tree of the dynasty. The letters are odd, if you can't properly read the names, just put random characters in the boxes and I will fill them myself. Regards, --Gligan (talk) 14:45, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- I'll tackle this one in my sandbox, though I'll be using the {{Chart}} template rather than a straight table as was done in Ivan Vladislav's article — Charts are a bit of a nightmare to deal with, but I think still easier than using a normal table. If there are any changes that urgently need to be made, please post what needs to change on my talk page so that I don't have to deal with edit conflicts while I'm trying to do the Chart. – RobinHood70 talk 21:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Cool, I didn't know about the chart template. I took a crack at a table version before I saw someone responded. Collapsible table. — Bility (talk) 21:20, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- It occurs to me that the Chart template has a 50-parameter limit, so the format will have to change a little bit. You can see in my sandbox that we're already up to 25 or so on the rows used to draw the lines. The three options to get around this are:
- drop each generation down and left under the preceding ones, as you can see that I'm about to do with Kera
- build it left-to-right instead of top-to-bottom
- go with a collapsible table like Bility suggests (though I notice he's gone for a left-to-right build as well)
- Thoughts? – RobinHood70 talk 21:52, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- I ran into the same problem when I tried the top-down approach; the tree is very wide. I couldn't say whether dropping groups down beneath others for more verticality or going left-to-right would be easier to read or implement. If a different image was created with larger text and better spacing, maybe using
{{wide image}}
would work. Just a thought, although I'd have to check the MOS to make sure it was kosher first. — Bility (talk) 23:16, 6 April 2011 (UTC)- Okay, I'm done with my version for now. Now that the main text boxes are in, it's less work to change it to a left-to-right if we want, which I think is probably the best bet in the long run, since we're not limited vertically with {{Chart}} and can make it look more like a rotated version of the original. I'm willing to do the work if that's what people want, but I'll wait till we're sure, as that would still probably take a while.

- Thank you both for the swift response and the work :) In my opinion the top-to-bottom build is better because that is usually the structure used in the family trees of the Bulgarian rulers. Now I will edit the text in RobinHood70's version to add the links. I wish to thank you once more for your efforts. Best, --Gligan (talk) 12:38, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I'll leave it to you to transfer the text to the page then.(Edit: moved it myself so I could clear my sandbox. 01:46, 12 April 2011 (UTC)) If you run into any problems, post back here and I'll take a look. Just one tip for future editing: it makes the charts enormously easier to work with when you use 5-character variable names (e.g., "Shish" instead of "Shishman"), as everything will line up between one Chart line and the next, so you know if you've misaligned something. In terms of functionality, though, it makes no difference at all, so it's fine as is. – RobinHood70 talk 22:57, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Proposal For A New Type Of Infobox
- Comment - Would it be possible for someone at Wikipedia to create a new type of infobox? It would be an infobox for literary festivals. Bus line template
Can someone code a generic bus line template along the lines of Template:Infobox rail line? There is already Template:Infobox busline but it is extremely ugly and doesn't look like our other transport infoboxes. Other non-standard bus line templates include Template:Infobox First Bus, Template:Infobox Glasgow Citybus, Template:Infobox London bus route, Template:Infobox SPT Bus, Template:Infobox West Midlands Buses, and Template:Infobox LPP Bus lines. These might be better models than Template:Infobox busline. Hopefully eventually they could all be merged. Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:34, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Example of copy/paste from Infobox rail line using every parameter: sandbox. Let me know how close that comes to what you're looking for and if you want to remove or add any fields or otherwise make changes. — Bility (talk) 17:48, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
- Great, thanks! I made some changes, and then went ahead and moved it into template space at Template:Infobox bus line. Now I've noticed a few more regional bus templates, so I may start trying to replace those too... Calliopejen1 (talk) 20:12, 28 April 2011 (UTC)
Combining bus line templates...
So in the process of the bus line template creation above, I found more templates.... There are Template:Infobox Bus Route and Template:Infobox UK bus route, which are essentially the same. Could someone make the UK template a wrapper for a more general bus route template? A few changes will have to be made to the general template, but not many. And then there is Template:Infobox London bus route, which is currently a wrapper for Template:Infobox UK bus route but maybe should just be a wrapper for Template:Infobox Bus Route. And then once this is done we can look at combining Template:Infobox Bus Route and Template:Infobox bus line! :) Calliopejen1 (talk) 13:27, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- I've converted UK bus route and London bus route to bus line, and the transclusions are fine for the most part. Right now I'm trying to figure out what to do with captions and operator logos when no image is specified. As it is, the caption won't show without an image, but some templates (example) use them this way. Also, I didn't know what to do with the operator logo, but it used to go beneath the caption, so that's where I put it. Unfortunately, the same problem arises when you have the operator logo but no image (example). I put in an ugly hack to display the caption without an image, but the infobox template inserts a <br /> tag, creating an extra line where the image should be. I can move the caption up with the "captionstyle" parameter, but then it gets even hackier. When I get back from lunch I'll see about finding another place for caption and operator logo to live if it's still borked. By the way, is the operator logo used correctly? What's the difference between the operator logo and the normal logo? Maybe we can just take operator logos and put them in the normal logo space, or the logo2 space. — Bility (talk) 20:01, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- Okay, I moved the operator logo into the second subheader field (appears between the bus number and the main image). For the caption issue, I made another field entirely, since in this case it's not captioning the image but serving another purpose. It is now in the first subheader, between the same elements as the operator logo, but placed just above the operator logo. I also replaced Infobox Bus Route with Infobox bus line, so I think that's everything. Lastly, I started a discussion on the bus line talk about parameters that I didn't put into the template. That would also be a good place to suggest taking out any of the ones I did include. — Bility (talk) 09:42, 30 April 2011 (UTC)
Incumbent Pope
Would it be possible to create an incumbent Pope template so that the name of the incumbent pope can be easily inserted into templates such as {{Infobox diocese}} so that they don't have to be manually updated every time there is a change of pope. Help making a template
I made a template for another media wiki project ( however I have had this same need a number of times when making new templates on Wikipedia, so if anyone can help me, it will be a significant help to me in making infobox templates here, as well as there), which I have placed here to look at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MattGagnon/template
Basically, all I really need is help with making this template hide the rows that do not have any information provided in them. In other words, if I leave something blank, such as office 2, 3, 4, 5, etc..., I don't want those rows to show up. Currently, when I leave those blank, the information still shows up.
I am not a professional at this, and I did find http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conditional_tables but I think that the jargon and descriptions are JUST a tad over my head for me to get it working myself.
Would really appreciate some help fixing this template. I'm assuming it doesn't take much more than the insertion of a little code here and there. Help? MattGagnon (talk) 16:35, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- You should be using
{{infobox}}
to make a new infobox. All these problems have already been solved in the main template and it will have a more consistent look and feel. — Bility (talk) 23:40, 21 July 2011 (UTC)
- I've given some basic offers of help to Matt and I will try to fixup his infobox a bit. It would, I think, behold regular contributors here to try to offer help rather than just slam others off with telling them where to go without advising them what to do. I could tell a few people here where to go, but that would not be AGF.
- There may well be another infobox that exactly suits Matt's purpose, but I imagine Bility doesn't mean it, but that sounded to me like a "go and learn your templates, newbie" comment. I very much hope it wasn't and was just my misinterpretation. I will have a look and try to fix it up a bit, even if it is superfluous it might help to learn a bit, for me as much as he. Si Trew (talk) 01:28, 22 July 2011 (UTC)
- No! Bility really means use the Template:Infobox as a base, like most other infoboxes do. Note that Template:Infobox officeholder already provides coverage for all kinds of politicians, and I can't see any reason to reinvent it. Secondarywaltz (talk) 02:51, 23 July 2011 (UTC)

In preparing a template, which is now at User:GeorgeLouis/Sandbox2, I need a text line just above the list to read "Geographical locations are approximate." I don't know how to do it. You can fix it for me if you like. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 12:02, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Added the
|above=
parameter for you. I also moved the|state=off
parameter into the template, in case you wanted in there instead of above. Cheers, — Bility (talk) 16:47, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Looks good. Thank you very much. Any way to center the two headers one above the other? They seem a little lopsided to me. Yours sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 18:58, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, you have two options. Either change
|state=off
to|state=uncollapse
(adds back in the hide/show link on the right) or add|navbar=off
(removes the "v · d · e" links on the left). — Bility (talk) 20:23, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Infobox: Courthouses
If this Infobox template already exists, please advise. If not, is it possible to have one? Many courthouses use the NRHP Infobox template, which works fine if it's listed on the national register. See Brooks County Courthouse (Texas), which I adapted from the NRHP. Without the NRHP, it will not show a pin map or Recorded Texas Historic Landmark, such as Presidio County Courthouse. Is it possible to have a generalized Infobox template for courthouses that will accommodate those which are only for Recorded Texas Historic Landmarks and/or those which have neither NRHP or RTHL? The pin map and image are really important for me. Please advise. Maile66 (talk) 15:24, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- Try the generic Template:Infobox building. That should work. Secondarywaltz (talk) 16:18, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- It doesn't work with the pin map. I specifically want the pin map and accompanying label. Maile66 (talk) 20:34, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

- Why is this not good enough? Secondarywaltz (talk) 21:32, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- The map itself with the red pin is great. However, the NRHP infobox will allow for a label right next to the red pin. If you can tell me how to make that happen, it's good. Is there a way to adjust this infobox so it can do that? Maile66 (talk) 21:37, 15 August 2011 (UTC)
- I do not know! This is now a minor problem. Perhaps you should move to the template talk page and ask for more help there. Secondarywaltz (talk) 22:00, 15 August 2011 (UTC)

Template request from 24.18.36.195 – August 19, 2011 (20:01)

Infobox Museum
See "Infobox Courthouse" above. We got my request taken care of by using Infobox: Building with |map dot label=. Now I'm working on an article that will use the template "Infobox Museum", and map dot label doesn't work on that one. Again, I find no way to affix a label to the map dot (map pin). Seems kind of useless to have an unlabeled red dot in the middle of the map, no matter what the tiny type at the bottom says. A red dot on a map should have a label next to it. Here's an example: San Antonio Museum of Art. If Wikipedia is not hard and fast about what I use, maybe I should just revert to Infobox Building for the museum article I'm working on. Can anybody help with this? Maile66 (talk) 16:16, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
- Currently, the
|label=
parameter for{{location map}}
is not being used in{{infobox museum}}
, and it's protected, so you would need to make an edit request on the template's talk page asking to add it. — Bility (talk) 17:53, 10 September 2011 (UTC)- Thank you. Request so made on the template page. Maile66 (talk) 18:42, 10 September 2011 (UTC)
Template:Infobox power station
In the 'Bottom section: For all infoboxes', I would like to change the parameter labeled 'average annual generation' to 'annual_net_generation', and change the word 'gross' in its description to 'net', since this is what is typically reported and more relevant for power stations.
I am not sure of the coding, what it would change, or everything that needs to be changed in making this edit.
Could someone could explain or just change this?
I would also like to delete the parameter 'net_generation', due to conflict with the above and with its own description ("Gross power generation since commissioning of the power station"). I doubt that it is used as described, but don't know how to check, or if deleting it would remove it from any articles that might already use it.
If deleting it outright would cause problems, could it perhaps be marked for deletion, frozen from future use, or a cautionary note added to the description?

Template:AfD-mergefrom-multi
This may resemble the current {{Afd-merge from}}. However, this requested template should combine a huge amount of nominated articles. This would take a lot of work if this proposal is accepted, such as to include syntaxes of nominated articles in one AfD and of nominated articles in separate AfDs. --Gh87 (talk) 06:36, 16 October 2011 (UTC) This way, I don't have to use {{WikiProject Banners}} to hide all multiple separate banners per Talk:The O.C. I coded the below Settlements in East Cambridgeshire template over a year ago. I have just been playing with trending topics, such as this one: Category:Cities in the East of England, and it occurred to me that I could do something similar with Template:East Cambridgeshire - for example Category:East Cambridgeshire. However, I do not appear to have added a useful category to the template - perhaps [[Category:East Cambridgeshire]]? Can you point me to something that shows me what I should do here and how to (properly) do it please?

Simply Encouraging Talk Template
I'm interested in being able to add a thing to the top of talk pages to provide a little bit of balanced encouragement and a couple of most fundamental tips/links on making comments or edits.
The template along those lines seems to be Template:Talk_header which is great but for when pages "attract frequent or perpetual debate, articles often subject to controversy, and/or recent-and-highly-visible topics." It has quite a lot of links & points in it, esp with the policies column, and when adding it there seems to be an extra undocumented line at the top warning "This is not a forum for general discussion of the article's subject", which I feel could tipo the balance of it toward confusing or discouraging new people.
On the other hand there's Template:Be_bold which is also great but is specifically about jumping in to editing, as things can easily be undone, and doesn't mention talk page commenting, or editing policy.
I've maybe missed other relevant templates or message boxes, but if not then I'd like to contribute to a new one that sort of mixes the above two but simplified for articles needing encouragement. For developed articles where it's not a matter of just adding a critical improve tag, but where people don't seem to be making substantial contributions and maybe queries/suggestions aren't getting replied to much or at all (so check back later or ask elsewhere but don't be disheartened be bold). Thanks for any feedback or help. Eversense (talk) 20:18, 25 December 2011 (UTC)
- What do you want it to look like and say? If it's meant to replace
{{talk header}}
, you might want to check in at the village pump to gauge interest. — Bility (talk) 17:08, 26 December 2011 (UTC)- It wouldn't be meant to replace the talk header template or anything, just give another option. I'm imagining it a bit smaller in size with slightly less words/links, but including some encouragements along lines of the be bold template. For further details I feel like I'd need to play around with a draft template - I've noticed links to sandbox testing but really can't tell how to do it. Could you help me get started with that? Then I could see what peopole think here or village pump as you say. Eversense (talk) 21:03, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
- The template you'd want to use is
{{tmbox}}
. I put an example in your userpages here. Let me know if you need any help. When you get it looking how you like, you can start asking around and see if anyone wants to use it, or you can be bold and move it into the Template namespace and start using it yourself. Cheers, — Bility (talk) 23:36, 26 December 2011 (UTC)- Thanks a lot for setting that up. I've got it kinda looking how I imagined. Not sure if the {{PAGENAME}} tag needs extra code to make sure it works, as seems to be present in the talk header template. Not sure about the colour names/numbers either. Any comments about it or its intended use would be very welcome, here or there.... Template:Engrish
A template similar to Template:Not English, except that it refers to poorly translated articles, not articles that haven't been translated at all. (Engrish is simply a slang term used to describe text poorly translated into English, as in "All your base are belong to us.") It would look something like this:
This article has been poorly translated into English. This article was originally written in a language other than English. Please rewrite it in proper English. Also see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion. If the article is not rewritten in English within the next two weeks it will be listed for deletion. |
I will probably not check back here in a while, so please notify me on my talk page if you have any questions.

DPRK Railway Station
Hi! I'd like a template that is similar to Template:Infobox_Station, however, it would need a 'Korean name' section like Template:Infobox_SMS_station. Thanks in advance! 2Q (talk) 22:32, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
2Q (talk) 22:32, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
- I checked this request and while moving the template Infobox Station to a sandbox for adding the new parameters, I recognized that there is already a undocumented parameter called {{{native_name_lang}}} and {{{native_name}}. Only the second parameter is visible and adds a new line under the type with the original name. Is that enough? mabdul 13:49, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- PS: I will update the documentation in a few minutes.
- if it can be used multiple times then it should indeed be enough (Korean names in infoboxes have to be written in two different scripts and two different romanisations...) 2Q (talk) 14:57, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
- (added nowiki) Try it out with a showcase! Since it only adds (defacto) a new line, you simply can use

- (added nowiki) Try it out with a showcase! Since it only adds (defacto) a new line, you simply can use
- I'm a bit confused as to where it is? Also I think the way it's done in Infobox SMS station is the best solution for what's needed for the DPRK railway stations (though with a couple minor North Korea-specific changes - "chosŏn'gŭl" instead of "hangul", MR before RR). There is a page Template:Infobox DPRK Railway Station that's at the moment just a redirect to Template:Infobox Station, perhaps the resulting code could be put there, as this would be very specific to (North) Korean needs? To make it more generically suitable for Northern and Southern stations, one could use the "context" feature found in Template:Infobox Korean name to switch between the northern and southern-specific features of the name (chosŏn'gŭl vs hangul, order of romanisations)... 2Q (talk) 14:09, 7 February 2012 (UTC)
- I redirected Template:Infobox DPRK Railway Station for testing purposes to the new sandboxes. Please report me if there are any problems, so that I can poke an admin... mabdul 22:39, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
- Sooo, and at Template:Infobox_station/testcases, you can see the actual template (left), the sandbox version without new parameters (middle), and the sandbox version with the four new parameters (right). Regards, mabdul 22:55, 8 February 2012 (UTC)
- User:The Earwig finally synced the sandbox to the real draft and thus all should worked. So have fun adding "new" names tho the templates. ;) Regards, mabdul 23:29, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Currently, Template:very long section is a redirect to Template:very long. I wonder if anyone can turn it into a template that resembles {{cleanup section}} and {{expand section}} but similar to "very long".

- Doing... mabdul 09:27, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- OK, I created a wrapper... but I'm not that sure what you want (maybe without the wrapper the redirect might not be working). Do you want a small variant like the expand section? Cleanup section has such a parameter, but a) I have never seen this in use and the cleanup section isn't using the small variant! mabdul 09:46, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- I don't know what a "wrapper" is; nevertheless, as long as it resembles a sidebar template, such as an "expand section", "copyedit section", or "cleanup section", anything you do can work for me and general editors. I'll be patient, while you take your time. There's no rush. --George Ho (talk) 10:11, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- So just for clarification: you simply want a parameter small like following:

{{expand section}} {{cleanup}}
- To be precise: the cleanup template looks ugly and too crowd! mabdul 12:03, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- Even if less attractive, BE BOLD! You pick; I'm not too sure... yet. Nevertheless, in case of deprecating "expand" article, at least the descendant "expand section" is saved. What if "very long" becomes deprecated after other templates derive from that template besides "very long section"? --George Ho (talk) 19:11, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- Here we go! Please keep in mind that it is still the same template and we have more templates like {{subsections}}. Here an example of the working code. The working is easy to change since the template is not protected... mabdul 19:35, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
This section is too long. Consider splitting it into new pages, adding subheadings, or condensing it. |
- Hmm... needs rewording. "page" should be "section"; needs more Wikilinks. --George Ho (talk) 20:11, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) Hmm... shouldn't have been a resemblance of "cleanup section" but rather "expand section" independently. Nevertheless, should the template be independent? What do you think? --George Ho (talk) 20:18, 24 February 2012 (UTC)
- I added the |section| parameter to both (the big and the small) versions of the template, moreover I updated the documentation and added a wikilink to WP:SPLITTING. Regards, mabdul 19:20, 27 February 2012 (UTC)
- Very nifty of you; nevertheless, there must be a Wikilink that links to one guideline in a template. Regards, George Ho (talk) 19:45, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Welcome template for sandbox users
I think it would be great if we had a template to welcome users whose first/only edits are edits to the sandbox. I looked for one and was very surprised to see that we don't already have such a template (or if we do, I couldn't find it. It ought to look just like the regular welcome message, but it should include some reference to the sandbox and encourage the new users to continue/expand their editing. Maybe it should look something like this:
---
Hello, Requested templates, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I see you have already begun learning how to edit Wikipedia by making use of the sandbox. That's a great place to start! Even experienced editors often use the sandbox to make test edits. Once you've learned the basics of editing, it's time to move on and begin boldly editing articles! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{help me}}

Katakana tables
Hi, would it be possible for someone to create two templates:
- {{katakana table}} — This to include the content of the first table ("Katakana syllabograms") from the article Transcription into Japanese.
- {{katakana table extended}} — This to include the content of the second table ("Transcription katakana") from the article Transcription into Japanese.
The purpose of these templates is so that the tables can be included in both Transcription into Japanese and Katakana without the current duplication. Once the templates have been created, I will take care of fixing up the articles.
The templates do not requre any programming logic. I simply want to be able to insert{{katakana table}} and {{katakana table extended}} in an article, and have the text from the template included. 86.177.107.165 (talk) 14:59, 22 March 2012 (UTC)

I have an idea for a template for an infobox for a particular sport in a country, usable for any sport and country, eg. 'Field hockey in the USA' or 'Cricket in Australia'. It could roughly look something like this:
Football in India | - |
---|---|
<Country flag image> | - |
Governing body | All India Football Federation |
National championship | I-league |
Olympic appearances | 1 |
Olympic medals | 1 bronze |
FIFA World Cup appearances | 1 |
FIFA World Cup performance | Never progressed beyond first round |
Asian Cup | Winners Once, Runners up twice |
First played | 1800s |
National team | India |
The Discoverer (talk) 12:18, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
I found this: Template:Sport overview, so maybe we could improve this one. It doesn't have any documentation at present. I think it would be great to have a country flagicon and a small shield of the national governing body. The flagicon feature, though present, is apparently not working in the existing template. Also, I think the national team nickname should be removed as this belongs in the national team infobox. It would be nice to have small medal icons where applicable and small cup symbols where the country has been champions in a competition. The Discoverer (talk) 12:25, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, with over 250 transclusions, I think we should stick with using
{{sport overview}}
. I updated the doc, so you can either mess around with it yourself or let me know what needs to be added and I'll help you out. — Bility (talk) 23:23, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Bility! Can we have a feature that automatically inserts a flag icon based on {country}? Also, I think we should have a method to summarise the number of appearances and performance of the country in important international competitions like the Olympics, the world cup or the regional championship as shown in the example above. I'm thinking maybe we can have something like:
| internationaltournament_1
| internationaltournament_1_appearances
| internationaltournament_1_record
| internationaltournament_2
.
.
.
| internationaltournament_n

- This template looks like it's going to get very long. I'm thinking we should just use three entries for all these lists—national competitions, national clubs and international tournaments—and use
{{collapsible list}}
with them. We can make the flag off the country name, but where would it go? Currently there's no "Country" field in the infobox, that information is just used to build the team links. — Bility (talk) 15:33, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Yes, Bility, you're right, I think three entries for each would suffice. Perhaps we can put the flag below the image and the caption. The Discoverer (talk) 16:51, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- I made a new version in the sandbox, you can see what it looks like on the testcases page. This would require changing all the existing templates from individual parameters to a list, of course. Still not seeing where to put the flag, it's just a small icon, usually it's prefacing some text, not just standalone. But if you can figure out where to put it, let me know. — Bility (talk) 18:03, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I edited the sandbox version to show where we could have the flag and also added the title attendance record at the bottom. I also added a new test case with the international competitions. It works for me. I think we could use {national1}, {national2} and {national3} in the lists in order for the transclusions in use to continue working. Similarly for {club1}, {club2} and {club3}.
For the international part, could we have something like pairs of {intlname1} and {intlperf1}, {intlname2} and {intlperf2}, {intlname3} and {intlperf3} like we have the pairs {leader_title_1} and {leader_name_1} in Template:Infobox Indian Jurisdiction?
The Discoverer (talk) 19:18, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- We could make a bunch of international parameters, but I thought we wanted to simplify this template? What I suggest is using the existing national and club parameters to build the lists, and add a cleanup category to the template if those parameters are used so we can go through them and convert them to lists. Once they're converted we can delete that functionality all together and just explain how to use plain or collapsible lists on the doc page. — Bility (talk) 20:43, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
The cleanup category is a good idea, I didn't know about that. The only reason I wanted parameters for international was so that we could have the competition name and performance in neat columns like in Template:Infobox Indian Jurisdiction and not like it is right now in Template:Sport overview/testcases (ie. without having to use colons), if you understand what I mean. What would be the best way to accomplish this? The Discoverer (talk) 21:06, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- The best way is to do it how you did on the testcases, to be honest. Using the label / data pairing, the labels will be suppressed if there is no data, such as just listing a tournament that they never won anything. The template is helpful for formatting, but it's not mandatory that every piece of information be input in separate parameters; making a normal list shouldn't be too taxing and allows for greater flexibility. — Bility (talk) 21:38, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
What you're saying makes sense to me. One other thing: Can we and should we include {collapsible list} directly in the template? Other than that, looks like we're good to go. The Discoverer (talk) 21:45, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- I don't think so, what if there's only one tournament? It would look pretty silly. I'll work on getting the existing national1 and club1 etc. parameters to build lists in the sandbox, then we can switch it over. — Bility (talk) 22:50, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Added in backwards compatibility and an example on the testcases page. — Bility (talk) 23:01, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
Its looking fine to me. Good job, Bility. Thanks for your help! The Discoverer (talk) 09:41, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
- All right I made the switch and updated the doc page. Category:Sport overview template with deprecated parameters should start filling up soon with articles that need their competitions converted to lists. When it's empty, I'll remove the old parameters and tracking category and we'll be all set. — Bility (talk) 15:42, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
My first implementation of the upgraded infobox: Football in India :) . It looks pretty swanky. Thanks a lot. I'll try to work on articles that need conversion to lists too. The Discoverer (talk) 19:51, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
For some articles, the {country} national {sport} team link should not appear, e.g. Chess in India. If the {country} parameter is omitted, then the national team link does not appear, but with this, the flagicon also disappears. Please can you modify the template so that the link does not appear if either the {country} parameter or the {sport} parameter is left blank? The Discoverer (talk) 13:14, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
- Well I already put overrides for them, but if there's not a single "team" link to found then yeah, it still wants to put something when you give it the country. The template was made with a very specific format so it's been a pain to try and code around the legacy issues. As I go through the tracking category I see more and more cases where this template is being used as a square peg trying to fit in a round hole. I'll see what I can do about the team links, meanwhile check out the doc page for the updated parameters. Cheers, — Bility (talk) 15:20, 4 May 2012 (UTC)
Change requested: Medref
Could someone alter {{Medref}} (in a sandbox linked from the main template so we can look at & discuss!), to have a visual layout like the message boxes here: Sources of articles#Message boxes so it's suitable for Mainspace please?
The existing image Rod of asclepius.png can move to the right, so it's opposite the exclamation mark used on those message boxes. Additionally, please add date parameters like those source templates use along with an optional "section" parameter. Thank you. --92.6.211.228 (talk) 16:33, 28 April 2012 (UTC)
- I had a try myself, in the main Template sandbox. Unfortunately it tripped the Edit filter. I posted my attempt on pastebin. Please exercise care if using on-site (because of the filter). I just relied on similar templates for the syntax however and I don't know what's 'wrong' with it. Perhaps my attempt will help someone to come up with an appropriate finished version more easily. --92.6.211.228 (talk) 19:55, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Probably the URLs. You might have to be registered and/or autoconfirmed. It should have just asked you to a complete a captcha though, not sure why it wouldn't let you post at all. I posted your code at Template:Medref/sandbox. Just shrunk the staff image to create less vertical whitespace. Cheers, — Bility (talk) 20:02, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you! I appreciate it, Bility. The URLs are internal or to Commons but perhaps it was them. Would I be right in saying you see no syntax problems with the template code? --92.6.211.228 (talk) 20:07, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- I fixed it up a bit, added a small version for sections, etc. Should be good to go. — Bility (talk) 20:50, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you very much again. ...At the risk of proving the phrase the reward for a job well done on Wikipedia is three more jobs true, the parameters including for the small version don't seem to work? I tried them in the sandbox here. Only date appears to work without doing odd things. It's unlikely its not working is down to your improvements of course! (Incidentally, I saw you removed the {{DMCA}} bit, I guess that isn't needed?) Are you able to fix it, Bility? If not no problem, I appreciate your efforts. --92.6.211.228 (talk) 22:03, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- Here is a tescases page: Template:Medref/testcases. You can test the date parameter on an article (just show preview, don't save) to see how that works. I tested the date myself, but if you want to see it in action feel free. Yes
{{DMCA}}
isn't necessary, all categorization functionality is built in to{{ambox}}
. One thing I will caution you on, is that the template is currently in use on multiple talk pages. So after the switch, someone will need to move them from the talk to the article itself. — Bility (talk) 22:32, 30 April 2012 (UTC)- Date works, yes. Without date it places them in non-hidden Category:Articles needing additional medical references or if date is used in Category: Articles needing additional medical references from April 2012. It works for the small and large versions, although only displays the date on the large version. Ahh I see now how talk is used! Ideally Reason would render before / on a line before Talk I think. Small is pared down regardless of parameters used, which makes sense really. It still does that strange text changing (Please review and => Please fix) of the plea unfortunately. Oh the namespace moves will be fine by the way—I think some were recently moved over anyway. --92.6.211.228 (talk) 23:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- I changed up the order in which they display now, reason first then talk. Also put them both on the same top line, which should keep the notice from expanding vertically unless they're very lengthy. Let me know if you want to change them, and we'll swap them around. — Bility (talk) 23:21, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
- That looks great now. I noticed it's setting date regardless of the date parameter being present?
One other thing, tried adding documentation inside an internal cmt to Medref/doc so it could replace the existing doc when ready. Tripped the Edit filter again. If you wouldn't mind, perhaps you could add it from the pastebin? --92.6.211.228 (talk) 23:43, 30 April 2012 (UTC)- Updated the doc. The date after the text is input by
{{ambox}}
, nothing we can do about it unless you want to build your own banner without using it. — Bility (talk) 00:15, 1 May 2012 (UTC)- Cool thanks. So is including |date= not necessary? Template:Refimprove/testcases uses
{{ambox}}
and those examples seems to only display the date when the date parameter's used. --92.6.211.228 (talk) 00:23, 1 May 2012 (UTC)- No, you need to include the date if you want it to go in the correct date category, it's just that if you do, it also puts it after the text. So it's all or nothing. I'm not saying that's a great way to do things, but maybe there was a discussion about it or something. Ambox is pretty widely used. — Bility (talk) 00:35, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
- Displaying the date after the text is fine. However it still displays the date even when the date parameter isn't used i.e. all you add to the page is
{{Medref/sandbox}}
). Others like Refimprove, on its own above-linked testcases page, only display the date if you include the param |date=month/year. Both do correctly categorise articles in the parent Articles needing additional refs category rather than its child date-specific cats if |date isn't included. Bizarrely, in Mainspace it displays the date only when actually used.
On the testcases page the examples I used with |date=April 2012 now say May, having said April about an hour ago; that might be correct I don't know. --92.6.211.228 (talk) 01:06, 1 May 2012 (UTC)- Yeah you're right, I checked the ambox code and it inserts {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}} (i.e. November 2024) for the date when it's on the calling template's page or a subpage thereof. The reason it works as it does on refimprove, is because that template doesn't use
|name=
, so it fails the check and just passes the date, which can be empty. It shouldn't affect mainspace though, it's just for the template and its subpages, probably so you can see what date you should put in the template when you use it. — Bility (talk) 03:17, 1 May 2012 (UTC)- Before I went to sleep I asked Thumperward who created the refimprove version if he could shed light on what it was doing that this wasn't. He concurs with your analysis
|name=
was causing it yep. As it only breaks stuff, perhaps albeit cosmetically, he removed it. Wow. I think that's a wrap. Thanks for all your help and, patience! --92.6.211.228 (talk) 11:18, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

Template Help
Is this the appropriate place to request help with a template? If not please let me know where is.
My template sometimes needs to make calls like {{Str number/trim|13<ref>a reference</ref>}}
which return 13 rather than the correct answer of 13 because the ref is being processed by the wiki software. Technically this is probably a bug in {{Str number/trim}} and {{Str letter/trim}} that should be fixed. The template makes this call via {{Str number/trim| {{{1}}} }}
. I am wondering how I can call <nowiki>
on {{{1}}}
. It's worth noting that in testing even {{Str number/trim|<nowiki>13<ref>a reference</ref>}}</nowiki>
appears to return the incorrect results of nothing. If you would like to take a look at the code directly here is what I am working on: {{Ranking movements/strip/sandbox}}. --ben_b (talk) 23:33, 14 May 2012 (UTC)
- Looks like refs aren't going to work with the
{{padleft}}
parser function, which is what all this string manipulation relies on.
- {{padleft:|1|13<ref>a reference</ref>}}: 1
- {{padleft:|2|13<ref>a reference</ref>}}: 13
- {{padleft:|3|13<ref>a reference</ref>}}: 131
- {{padleft:|4|13<ref>a reference</ref>}}: 1313
- {{padleft:13<ref>a reference</ref>|10}}: 13[7]
- {{padleft:13<ref>a reference</ref>|20}}: 13[8]
- {{padleft:13<ref>a reference</ref>|30}}: 13[9]
- {{padleft:13<ref>a reference</ref>|40}}: 000000013[10]
Location map template for Baku
Hi, I'd like for someone to help me with creating a location map template for the city map of Baku, Azerbaijan. The image to used is called "ESC 2012 Baku Map.svg" in WP Commons. I've tried following the guide at Template:Location map/Creating a new map template but with no success. The location map template is to be used in the article for Eurovision Song Contest 2012, see 2011 and 2013 for examples on how the template is in use for other maps. Thank you! --Reckless182 (talk) 09:19, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Created
{{Location map Baku, Azerbaijan}}
for you and used it on the 2012 article as an example. The latitudes and longitudes for the map edges look like they need to be refined (I just eyeballed it). Hope that helps. — Bility (talk) 16:33, 29 May 2012 (UTC)- Thank you very much! That is perfect. --Reckless182 (talk) 17:43, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
Can someone please add the category Category:Wikipedia orphaned talk pages that should not be speedily deleted to Template:Rtd? This template archives file talk pages where the file description page was deleted. This template is used when a file is tagged with {{Di-replaceable fair use disputed}} (which disputes {{Di-replaceable fair use}}), and where discussion takes place on the talk page, but still resulting in the file being deleted. — ξxplicit 01:02, 1 June 2012 (UTC)
This template needs to resemble Template:welcome-vandal but mention merely unconstructive removal of such, like Template:uw-delete1. --George Ho (talk) 04:14, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
- Is it really necessary? Twinkle lets you use both templates consecutively under the same header. —Hahc21 05:14, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
- It's a good alternative to either. Uw-delete1 doesn't look welcoming. Welcome-vandal is too ambiguous, and I'm sure if unreasonable or reasonable deletion was either vandal or not. --George Ho (talk) 05:24, 16 June 2012 (UTC)
I need something that blends Template:Non-free use rationale logo and Template:Non-free use rationale 2. --George Ho (talk) 17:06, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
- You need to just use the existing templates instead of creating hybrids for every possible corner case. If a specific template doesn't quite do what you like, write your own personal message. This goes for your request above as well. Or feel free to make a template in your user pages for your personal use. — Bility (talk) 16:13, 12 June 2012 (UTC)
- Can someone else here be optimistic about this? --George Ho (talk) 05:26, 16 June 2012 (UTC)

Proofreader template! In Afrikaans.
Hi I want to make the "Proofreader needed" Box avail in English, for Afrikaans, as I am currently working on some translations. I have people reading the articles before I put them up, but this takes a long time. I would like to flag them as you are able to in English. I am not sure how to creat this. I have one in my sandbox, but I just changed the English one. Not sure if this is legal? Five Foot Two (talk) 18:38, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I'm not active at enwiki and idk what template you saying about. But I can say that you can just translate english templates to your wiki it is legal and you dont need add anything like {{translated article}} template talk page. But you should be carefull: if template which you translating uses other templates you should check is there exist at your wiki, if no you should translate them too. Sorry for terrible English, Basetalkсontr. 21:50, 13 June 2012 (UTC)
Thank you Base :) I am looking to make this one. I don't know where or how to save it so others can use it too.

A more ergonomic "external media" template please
The current external media template is confusing.
External videos | |

Fluorine video from the University of Nottingham: Cold gas impinging on several substances causes bright flames. Extra footage. |
I would like a simpler, nicer looking version.
For instance:
1. There are two different pictures of the clapperboard. Why duplicate?
2. The blue arrow in each clapperboard looks like a "start" button for video. But clicking it does not work. Cut that.
3. Anything else you think of. I trust y'all's art instincts.
TCO (talk) 01:02, 8 July 2012 (UTC)
P.s. No fussing about external media copyright, please. I know EXACTLY what I am doing, when I opt for that choice.
P.s.s. I don't care if we fix the existing one or make a new one. Really, I would prefer a new one. That way, we don't have some silly edit war about which one is preferred. Make the new one and let it be an option. Note we already do this for instance for embedded audio files (have a few choices of templates for how to display).
- We don't want new versions of existing templates. Please take this to the talk page of the exisiting template. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:47, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
RfD relisted
I'm trying to create a template that points to the location a relisted RfD is now located. Basically, it should look just like the manually created link at: Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2012 June 14#Petara.
The template should create the level 4 heading (based on a given parameter) with span_id. It should place the {{relisted}} icon and text and create a link to the relevant section of the new log page, named Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/YYYY monthname day#redirect (the section name parameter will be used for both the link and the generated section heading). Ideally it should default to the current day if a different one is not specified.
I started to try and create one at User:Thryduulf/RFD relisted (testing at User:Thryduulf/sandbox) but I've exceeded my skill level already (copying mainly from {{oldrfd}} and even what I've tried to do so far doesn't work! Thryduulf (talk) 22:23, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- Doing... RfD and template work at the same time? This is all kinds of right up my alley. BigNate37(T) 19:58, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Partly done. It's still in userspace, and the documentation should be fleshed out. I'm happy to finish the job, but I don't have the time right now. If someone else beats me to it, please consider moving it to Template:rfd relisted, not "Template:RFD relisted" as OTOMH the other RfD templates are all lower case, e.g. {{rfd top}}. BigNate37(T) 21:28, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. sorry about what I did in your sandbox. BigNate37(T) 21:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Don't be sorry at all! Thank you for doing this, I think it'll be worth the effort. Thryduulf (talk) 22:56, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- P.S. sorry about what I did in your sandbox. BigNate37(T) 21:31, 5 August 2012 (UTC)
- Mostly Done: it's over at {{rfd relisted}} now, and I've done up some documentation for it. Since it's a subst-only template I'm not 100% sure how I want the test cases to be set up, and the standard method isn't quite doing it, but that's not anything that will affect the template's use (or even its modification). This article reads like a list.
Like the subject of this section says I would like a template for articles that read like a list. Basically a cleanup template. I also want it to address articles about people that list their works for example, but say nothing about the style of their work (if a musician for ex.), or the impact of the person(s) work. A perfect example of an article I'd like to use it for is the article, Plaid (band). I want the main part in bold to say, This article reads like a list. The rest of it I would like to say... This article marks milestones but does not say anything qualitative about the subject and/or person. Please discuss on the article's talk page. If anyone has suggestions please let me know. Thanks. - We already have {{prose}}. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 21:56, 26 July 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks. For some reason I barely don't remember seeing that. "Poor grammar" intended. Lighthead þ 20:02, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Template:Nested cite
We could use a dedicated citation template for a work citing another work. This comes up fairly often. To make it a bit clearer, this arises when you have access to source X, and that source is itself citing source Y, which you don't have access to, so you need to cite X, citing Y. This is discussed at WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT, though the form given there is far from full attribution and would not pass muster at WP:FAC I wouldn't think. Ideally, it would work like this:
Starr, Ringo (1967). Name of Book I Haven't Seen. Liverpool, UK: Apple Records Press. p. 1. ISBN X-XXXX-XXXX-X, cited in Zappa, Frank (1979). Name of book I Have Seen. Baltimore, MA: Mothers of Invention Press. p. 2. ISBN X-XXXX-XXXX-X.
I could probably work up something too simple and stilted on my own after great effort but doing this right is beyond my coding ability, and way beyond if it were to use something like (or require a modification to) {{Citation/core}}.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:59, 30 July 2012 (UTC)
Navbox Gameloft
Hello, I'd like to request a Navbox for Gameloft games, but I don't now if I'm right here, so feel free to move this request to the right place if it is the wrong place for doing this: A navbox which links Gameloft games (see the cat). --weltforce (talk) 17:25, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
History of Theatre
Please feel free to go to town with an image and any style that seems to work. I thought combining Template:Campaignbox History of theatre by country and Template:Campaignbox History of theatre by country would be easy but I think I need more advanced help to ensure we're on a good path. Feel free to add Portal:Theatre and Wikipedia:WikiProject Theatre or anything else that makes sense. Insomesia (talk) 02:08, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Road junction lists need to use templates, not tables
I would like a template that informs users navigating to a page that the road junction list/exit list is supposed to be built using templates, such as Template:Jctint, Template:Jcttop, and Template:Jctbtm, and not in a wikitable format. It should use the same basic format as Template:Exit list, but the "text" field would read thus: '''This section has a table that represents a list of exits or junctions. However, it should be formatted using templates, such as {{jcttop}}, {{jctint}}, {{jctbtm}}, etc., as appropriate.'''<br>Please help by <span class="plainlinks">[{{fullurl:{{FULLPAGENAME}}|action=edit}} adding the missing exit or junction list].
Also, instead of placing the article in [[Category:Routes needing a junction list|{{PAGENAME}}]]
, the template should place the article in a category named [[Category:Routes having an exit list that should be templated|{{PAGENAME}}]]
. Of course, if the wording should be changed to something simpler, please propose that here. Thank you. Allen (Morriswa) (talk) 04:20, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Please reject this. The USRD project already has a tracking method in the project banner. The reader won't know that the table is hard-coded vs. created using templates unless the table is missing the automatically converted km column (or mile if metric is first). Since the request is active most in USRD, his request isn't needed because the project already has a non-forward-facing option for tracking these, as was explained to him at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject U.S. Roads#Road junction listsImzadi 1979 → 04:25, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- This should only be done once the road junction list templates are modified to allow the use of a coordinates column (or parameter); there being no consensus to prohibit such. Until such time, the use of those templates can only be optional, as it is legitimate for editors to avoid them, in order to include coordinates. Note also that there is no specific reference to the US in the request; negating Imzadi1979's objection, which is based on supposition to that effect. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 13:35, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Morriswa only edits in the US, and already posted a request to this effect at WT:USRD#Road junction lists. The request there is being handily rejected as well. Imzadi 1979 → 17:17, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
1940USCensusSchedule template
One relatively new source for biographies of those living in the USA in 1940 is the 1940 United States Census. We need a template that makes it easier to cite a particular page ("schedule') from that census.
One index of census records is available at FamilySearch. I am requesting that a template for citing a schedule from FamilySearch be created. I think the easiest way to expand what I am asking for is to give an example:
The template should be used like this:
- {{1940USCensusSchedule|name=Burt Reynolds|at=FS|id=MM9.1.1/K4L6-RVQ|accessdate=2012-09-06}}
and produce the following:
- [https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/K4L6-RVQ Burt Reynolds] at [[FamilySearch]]. Retrieved 2012-09-06.
The only mandatory parameter is the id; if name is missing, it default to PAGENAME, if at if missing, the source text defaults to "at FamilySearch."; if accessdate is missing, no "Retrieved 2012-xx-yy." is generated.
For now, only FamilySearch would be supported as a source of census schedules, and as a result, the generated URL always starts with "https://familysearch.org/pal:/" But it would be useful to allow for URLs from other sources be able to be added.
Bonus points if you allow the first unnamed parameter to be assumed to be the name, and the second unnamed parameter to be summed to be the id.
Thus, the example above would be equivalent to:
- {{1940USCensusSchedule|Burt Reynolds|MM9.1.1/K4L6-RVQ|at=FS|accessdate=2012-09-06}}

Requested Template
I would like to request someone make a template. That would combine these two templates that already exists. {{box-shadow}}, and also {{border-radius}}. I have made an example of what it would look like on my User Sandbox page here. It would look good, as well as make it more appealing and eye catching to the eye. As well it makes it pop-out more. What do you guys think? --Clarkcj12 (talk) 20:38, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Music and organization templates
--Jax 0677 (talk) 01:07, 19 September 2012 (UTC) These templates when finished, should be placed at the bottom of their respective pages with albums, singles and ensemble members for those associated with music. For those associated with companies, the subsidiaries, products and people associated with the companies should be added. Thanks!

- This page is for requests for a new template or updates to existing templates; you seem to have some finished templates and are asking for help deploying them. I'm not sure where it's best for you to ask for that help, but this isn't the place. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:16, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
- You've just re-written your request, making my reply look nonsensical. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 18:23, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
- Apologies for the error. I put the templates in this section back the way that they were. All of the templates here have either been created or deleted. If someone would like to strikethrough my request, it would be appreciated.--Jax 0677 (talk) 16:09, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
This template needs a major cleanup and re-structuring so it can cope with Issue numbers as well as volume numbers.
It's also impossible to understand the template code in it's current form.

More music and organization templates (25 September 2012)
The templates in this section cover either musicians, musical ensembles or organizations. They should be navigation boxes at the bottom of the articles. Musical templates should contain the people, albums and songs associated with the topic. Organization templates should contain the people, products, and subsidiaries affiliated with them.

The bottom-anchored template for the above page would be headed "Notable members of the Los Angeles Common Council." and it would list all the blue-linked names to be found on that page; I think alphabetically would be best. This page will have no other names added to it, its time frame being 1850-1889, although some of the black names on it will be blue-linked in the future. Considering the time frame involved, a simple black-grey-white color scheme might be best. Any questions, please?

- Never mind. I found a template I can modify quite easily. GeorgeLouis (talk) 13:22, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
Climate chart template needs a new parameter
Hello. At this section of Template talk:Climate chart. you'll find a requested change to {{Climate chart}}. A new parameter is needed to enable {{Climate chart}} to be used in articles about places such as Beaver Creek, which have particularly cold winters. Please contribute to the discussion there if you are so inclined. Thanks in advance. 72.244.204.87 (talk) 04:39, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Template:Infobox theater misbehaving
Infobox theater has two incompatible sets of coord parameters... Could someone help rationalize this? (This template scares me, so I don't want to do it myself!) The "coordinates"/"latitude"/"longitude" parameters (which are incompatible with the pushpin map) generate inline and title coordinate outputs, but only "latd"/"longd" work with the pushpin map. Thanks! Calliopejen1 (talk) 19:04, 20 December 2012 (UTC)
Replacing an aspect ratio hack currently required for the Multiple image template
{{Multiple image}} documentation come complete with an aspect ratio hack that leads to potential maintenance problems. As documented here, to get a common height to a set of images being displayed horizontally using {{Multiple image}}, an editor must incorporate the aspect ratio of each non-square image using the following per-image width expression:
- {{#expr: (dh * ow / oh) round 0}}
where, expressed in pixels, dh is the desired height, ow is the original width, and oh is the original height.
The basic request is to improve this. More specifically, at a minimum, create a new template that replaces that expression, such as {{imagewidth|dh|oh|ow}} As far as I know, no such template already exists.
If its possible for a template to detect ow and oh, you could implement a more ambitious and usable approach. For a coveted {{Template Barnstar}}, incorporate support for dh directly into {{Multiple image}}. My proposal would be to introduce a parameter called height, which would be a per-template instance like width (as opposed to the numbered per-image parameters like width1, width2, etc.) Specifying height in this manner would eliminate the need to specify the multiple per-image width expressions.
Thanks in advance. 67.101.5.135 (talk) 22:26, 23 January 2013 (UTC)
- Over 150 editors watch this page, yet no one is interested in improving {{Multiple image}}, a template used in thousands and thousand of articles? Or if the request is a bad idea, no one in the community is willing to say why? 67.101.5.104 (talk) 23:14, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
