You should have received an email from me a couple of weeks ago regarding your request for access to ScienceDirect. Could you please either fill out the form linked from that email or let me know if you did not receive it? We are hoping to get these processed as soon as possible. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited List of Catholic bishops of India, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages MSFS and Edward Francis. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Refrain form removing contents without discussing them

[edit]

Dear The Discoverer, I am requesting you to refrain from removing contents before discussing on talk page. You have done it twice. In one incident your have removed the properly referenced sources because you did not like it. Or you did not find it appropriate. Please understand that it is wrong to do so. I would suggest you to read some guidelines before doing so. I would even like to request administrators and experienced editors to take a note of this and to take action on you if found necessary. Please understand that your account can be blocked if you continue to do this. Hope you will understand. Thank you. -- Abhijeet Safai (talk) 05:40, 24 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hung Ta-chen

[edit]

This edit was badly wrong. You can clearly see that the Kashmir territory extended up to the bend in the Karakash river. In fact, Dorothy Woodward says (p.73):

Clarke added that a Chinese map drawn by Hung Ta-chen, Minister in St. Petersburg, confirmed the Johnson alignment showing West Aksai Chin as within British (Kashmir) territory.

Noorani gives a longer quote from Clarke's note (p.90):

The Aksai Chin (White Desert) are the great soda plains east of Karakoram and south of the Kuen Lun. I think Mr Macartney is right in his belief that the region is partly in Chinese and partly in British (Kashmir) territory. It is a pity that Mr Macartney did not back up his opinion by referring Huang Tajen to the map prepared of this part of the country, by Hung Ta-chin, late Chinese minister at St. Petersburg (see enclosure of Mr Macartney’s letter to Resident in Kashmir, No. 141, dated the 23rd July 1893). I have marked the Aksai Chin on that map, and part clearly is shown as within Kashmir territory. Will Superintendent External (b), please say if the question of this corner of the Tibet–border has come up before.[2]

Please also keep in mind that "Aksai Chin" only referred to the Soda Plains in those days, not Lingzi Tang or Depsang Plains. That "Aksai Chin" was divided between Kashmir and Tibet, called the "West Aksai Chin" and "East Aksai Chin" respectively. The Tibetan part is now called Changthang plateau, but it is indistinguishable from West Aksai Chin. The boundary between them is purely political, not geographical. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:52, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

That note is from 1896. Between then and 1899, the British changed their tune. To them, Kashmir frontier was a chess piece, to be traded for something more important. They had already given away Shahidulla to create an eastern version of the Wakhan Corridor. They now wanted to trade West Aksai Chin in return for China relinquishing its suzerainty over Hunza. But China didn't agree. So the offer lapsed. In any case the British suggestions for a political compromise could not significantly prejudice the Indian case since the offer lapsed and concessions made in the course of negotiations do not rank as admission of rights.[1] So, the Macartney-MacDonald Line has no validity any more. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 13:02, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it seems that you are right. I'm not sure how I made the connection between Hung Ta-Chen and the Macartney-Macdonald line.. I have a feeling it's in some source. The Discoverer (talk) 16:07, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
For now, I think it makes sense to make the same edits that you have done to other Wikipedia pages that make the same connection namely, Aksai Chin, Sino-Indian border dispute and Sino-Indian War. Of course now we can't edit Sino Indian War. Could you do the edits, or would you prefer if I did them? The Discoverer (talk) 16:14, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Please go ahead and copy it if you have the time. I am still going to completely rewrite that page, because the Hunza deal isn't discussed at all at present. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 17:34, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I'm going to do exactly the same change on Aksai Chin and Sino-Indian border dispute, then for Sino-Indian War we'll have to either do a protected edit request or we can wait and edit it when the page is unprotected. I compliment your sharp eyes and thoroughness, and I apologise for my mistake. The Discoverer (talk) 18:43, 11 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I think the problem is that we are all being dishonest. We cite Google Books snippet views just as any other book. This gives the misleading impression that we have actually read the books being cited. It is impossible for other editors to verify what we saw in the snippets and the errors stay there for ever. The solution is to include quotations that support the content. I am going to follow this policy from now, and I suggest you do the same. Sanatan Sansta

[edit]

Request WIKI Oversight. The author is misreading or reading into news articles to further then notion that the Sansta is behind the murders of those mentioned on the Wikipage. I have no idea who the Sansta are, neither do I care for their ideology. However, in an effort to tar them with the same brush @TheDiscoverer or Vasco is making false and specious conclusions using contradictory newsreports. While it is customary to use words like "allege" or "suspected" @TheDiscoverer uses language that is conclusive. Maybe @Kautilya3, an India native who is aware of these topics should look into them, with the oversight of another wiki editor or two. @The Discoverer has been warned before for blanking out sections and biases shown in favor catholic reporting. It does not matter who is wrong, the point we only have access to news that everyone can see, so multiple editors should view the same articles cited to see if they say what is being interpreted by @TheDiscoverer. That is ideal peer reviewing. Thank you172.125.126.89 (talk) 19:32, 17 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I will try to add reference details from now on. Sometimes I am a little lazy. I know that there's ReFill that can be used to fill details after making an edit. Is there any tool that helps fill reference details while making an edit? The Discoverer (talk) 04:32, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
reFill doesn't do such a good job. Please use reflinks, and use the slow version which allows you to fix any problems before committing. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 17:09, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously your reading and comprehension skills are poor. If you read carefully it will say that ballistics is new science. Grown ups use the word fledgling for new. In the end of the article it says that there is no conclusive link.172.125.126.89 (talk) 11:52, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

You are engaging in the worst kind of misrepresentation of the sources where you join two unrelated sentences from two different places in the article to imply something that the article does not, and on top of that you place your new made-up statement in double quotes. March 2018

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war on 2016 Indian_banknote demonetisation. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes; work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing.

While it is too clear that you are attempting to game WP:3RR, it is just also clear that you don't really think about editing this subject neutrally given your edits such as [1][2][3][4]. Capitals00 (talk) 06:14, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, there is no edit war going on. However, if several constructive edits are undone instantly with a vague summary, as you have done, then I guess I am entitled to revert and ask you to explain.
As per the WP:3RR, since 6 March till the present, I have only performed two reverts, with a gap of 36 hours between them. This could hardly be considered as gaming 3RR. In addition, it is clear that the four edits cited by you are completely neutral. The Discoverer (talk) 09:39, 25 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That is how you have learned how to game WP:3RR. Yes your edits are completely disruptive and non-neutral. You don't even know what the source was actually saying and any more of that may result in topic ban or block. Capitals00 (talk) 16:01, 19 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • That was a misleading edit. Do you really believe that talk page said that you are allowed to remove analysis of Aarati Krishnan and retain thewire.in (unreliable) as source? Your WP:CIR issues are not even limited to this. You had exhibited similar incompetence on entire Sino-Indian conflicts from which you were de-facto topic banned. You are clearly asking me to report you for your lengthy disruption. Capitals00 (talk) 06:10, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Swimming in India

Notice

The article Swimming in India has been proposed for deletion. The proposed deletion notice added to the article should explain why.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

Thanks, Berean Hunter. Unfortunately, I have no idea about this. Hello Diannaa, sorry, I had not copied the text from the source verbatim, but I did not realise that my text was so close to the original. I have made another attempt. They are just four sentences about the history of the church, and while stating the main points, it is quite impossible to avoid using certain phrases being close to the original text, even when I write my own summary; for example, 'in honour of the saint', 'a large church was built at the site'. Information icon Please do not add or change content, as you did at Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Kalyan, without citing a reliable source. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Elizium23 (talk) 18:15, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Elizium23, I am adding sections about saints and causes to the articles of various dioceses with information taken from List of saints of India, which has references. I am confident that all this information is verifiable. My request to you is: please allow me to add the sections for now without references, instead of reverting my additions, could you please put 'citation needed' tags wherever you would like a reference? I will come back later and add the references. If you are not satisfied in a few days, feel free to delete the content.
I'm sorry to say that I find your summary reversal of my additions to be unnecessarily severe, and I would prefer if you could point out exactly which candidate that I have mentioned you think really needs to be cited. For instance, most of the article Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Calcutta is unsourced, but you have issue with me stating that St. Theresa of Calcutta lived and served in Calcutta?
The Discoverer (talk) 18:31, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
verifability requires that all information in Wikipedia be accompanied by a citation to a reliable secondary source. Wikipedia is not a reliable source. You can add the material when you have the references to go with it. Elizium23 (talk) 18:56, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Elizium23, verifiability requires that all information in Wikipedia be verifiable, not that each and every sentence have an inline citation. Please be reasonable and add cn tags inline where you want me to add a reference and give me some time. Do you really want a source for statements like 'St. Theresa of Calcutta lived and served in Calcutta', or 'The tomb of St. Thomas the apostle is in Chennai'? The Discoverer (talk) 19:06, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The Discoverer, I saw that Maximilian Kolbe allegedly made a visit once, and then a list of 7 bare names with no context. This is prime breeding ground for more unsourced material to be added. Don't resort to reductio ad absurdum because you know there is more than this that needs to be cited. This is the same as towns that list "Notable people" from that town, or colleges listing "Notable alumni". It is unreasonable of you to request that I tag-bomb a dozen articles with just as many maintenance tags because you can't provide the sources. You can wait to add the material until you are able to provide the sources. Elizium23 (talk) 19:12, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Elizium23, I get your point, but I assure you I am not trying to escape the burden of providing sources. Isn't it also unreasonable of you to delete only the content added by me while leaving the rest of the content in the articles that have not been cited? If you uniformly apply your reasoning, you should blank Syro-Malabar Catholic Archeparchy of Thrissur, Syro-Malabar Catholic Eparchy of Irinjalakuda and Roman Catholic Diocese of Sivagangai which do not have a single inline citation. The Discoverer (talk) 19:33, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I see you have added references. So far so good. A couple of things may apply now. Per MOS:HON, we do not use honorifics in articles except to discuss them, so you will need to remove e.g. "Servant of God", "Blessed", "Rev.", "O.C.D.", "O.F.M." and the like, leaving the names only. Also, bare URLs in references are poor practice, particularly because of WP:LINKROT so you would be advised to flesh them out soon. Two utilities that can be used for this are the WP:Visual Editor and WP:REFILL. Enjoy. Elizium23 (talk) 05:53, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Elizium23, I have expanded the bare references. I think that in the context of a list of saints, beatified people, venerables, servants of God, etc. it makes sense to retain these titles, otherwise the reader won't know which person is at which level. The alternative is to remove the honorifics from before individual names and add them as sub-headings in the list. The post-nominal abbreviations remain to be removed. Your map on the TV

Shekhar Gupta using your map on his news show. He also used Voidvector's information about Sultan Said Khan, though he might have gotten his dates wrong. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 22:21, 26 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for letting me know, Kautilya3 :) That was an interesting episode. It's always interesting to watch Shekhar Gupta's videos for his insights. The Discoverer (talk) 11:19, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, but he is soft-pedalling the Chinese incursions more than the other sources. We don't yet know who is right.
But I am glad in a way that our information is getting used by the newspeople. I noticed that India Today has copied my history of the Kalapani territory. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 11:43, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There was a nugget I once read in a BBC article : "With its repeated transgressions, Beijing has underscored Indian vulnerabilities and the potential costs of challenging China. And with every intrusion, China changes the ground realities at the border, gaining ever more territory in the process and redrawing the map in its favour."
I'm just happy that people are editing these topics and putting forward the Indian point of view as well. When I stared editing in this area around 2013, the Indian viewpoint and neutrality were nowhere to be seen. Thanks for your work in this regard, Kautilya3. The Discoverer (talk) 11:51, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that is Harsh V. Pant from King's College London. The next line says, "However, it is not readily evident if such an approach would benefit China strategically." This time, there is a strategic game, at the Galwan valley, and the stakes are high. -- Kautilya3 (talk) 12:50, 27 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

DS Alert

[edit]

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.

You have shown interest in India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

Aman Kumar Goel (Talk) 07:25, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, St. Mary's Basilica, Mulagumoodu, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Holy See–India relations, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Avtar Singh and Narendra Singh. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Ketevan festival

[edit]

Here's the video of a performance by Goa University Choir. This video was uploaded by Rudolf Ludwig Kammermeier, a German who runs a gallery named Art Chamber in Calangute. Kammermeier was co-founder (along with Girelli) of the Ketevan "Sacred Music" Festival.

Here's a video showing the mediaeval German lyrics of that same "Catholic hymn" (it's really a secular song) along with the English translation of those lyrics: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_sjS8KxAjTo — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.107.80.52 (talk) 08:12, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Here's also a video from the Ketevan "Sacred Music" Festival's official YouTube channel of the performance of the Ektaal Children's Choir led by a Goan Karen named Nayantara Lima Leitão (the trashy, dishonest hag is one of the rotten fruits that did not fall far from the trashy, dishonest tree). https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MB2CavlkHYk This song also is not any kind of "sacred music" or children's song, Seasons of Love is a song from the musical Rent. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:8100:317C:B4D2:A815:48B5:7FBB:BADF (talk) 05:03, 9 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Editing the Indian Naval Ensign article

[edit]

Hi "The Discoverer". I've seen you've erased my edits on the most recent alteration of the Indian Naval Ensign, in favor of an edit made by you. Yet, when I re-edit that sub-section, you repeal that alteration, saying that it has to be concise. I'd like to make a clarification here.

{1}. You've reverted the sentence referring to the PMO's announcement of the ensign's upcoming alteration, saying there is no use. I disagree, since mentioning the ensign's revision, without stating the proper reason why, would not be nice. For example, the reason for the change back to the 2004-2022 ensign is mentioned - Indian sailors had a hard time distinguishing the old ensign from the sky and the ocean, from afar. Likewise, the current change to the present design (2022-present) also has a reason - the Indian Navy and the Government of India wanted a new design that "would dispose of the colonial past" and would "befit India's rich maritime heritage". That is a valid reason. Mentioning a change without a reason wouldn't exactly be appealing to readers. The decision to change the ensign has to be mentioned, since it is an event which is related to the ensign's history.

{2}. You said that you've re-edited the entire section just to make it concise, but the use of the word "concise" doesn't exactly apply here. The paragraph is neither convoluted nor long, and it is not difficult for readers to comprehend. The word "concise" would have been meaningful had the paragraph been too long too read, but it is not. There was no need to make that edit.

For good reason, please stop stop making these edits, which solicits neither any necessity nor urgency. Please leave the paragraph as it is. It already is good, has no pressing necessity for change and is already sufficient in information. Any further reverting of the paragraph in favor a version of yours would spark an edit conflict, which is profoundly unnecessary. Kindly understand. Thanks. Hello Kishore Editing, I will copy this conversation to the article talk page, because that is the right place to discuss about the article contents. Regards, The Discoverer (talk) 11:21, 8 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
