Could someone revert EJ Manuel

[edit]

Someone pasted over the article for EJ Manuel with the Barack Obama article, including all of the categories. 67.1.140.71 (talk)

 Done I have reverted it here Jolly1253 (talk) 04:29, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

Hello - I have a digital album that was released to online music music platforms on 1.1.23. I am keen to have a short summary on Wikipedia but am not sure of the best way to go about this. Should someone else write the article, for example. I have references, namely the social media platforms. I am new to Wikipedia but would greatly appreciate your help. M Ekins. Mattekinsmusic (talk) 09:41, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Mattekinsmusic Thanks for asking, but to be very frank with you- Wikipedia has no interest in helping you promote your album. An album only merits an article if it meets our special definition of a notable album, as shown with significant coverage in independent reliable sources(which does not include social media). If your album does merit an article, it would be best to allow independent editors wholly unconnected with you in any way(including being hired) to write it. 331dot (talk) 09:45, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please also read about conflict of interest, which would apply to you or anyone you ask to help- as well as the paid editing policy, if you wanted to pay someone to help you. 331dot (talk) 09:46, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

German article "Arnulf Lüchinger" is existing, new English article needs the same title

[edit]

The new English article is published without title on the User page of User:Migaela. Would you be so kind to publish it with the title "Arnulf Lüchinger" on Wikipedia as a normal article. Many thanks for your cooperation, User:Migaela Migaela (talk) 13:23, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Migaela: Hi there! If you haven't done so already, I suggest you read Help:Your first article, and move your draft from User:Migaela to Draft:Arnulf Lüchinger. Before submitting it for review, please make sure that all the content can be tied back to reliable sources. (Some paragraphs of your draft don't have any footnotes yet.) Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 14:34, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Migaela You created the page for the draft yesterday but in a way that didn't move the content from your User Page. Do you need help now to copy over the text and blank the version on your User Page? Note that draft articles and User Pages should not have categories assigned. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:58, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks for both reactions. The English version of the new article has moved to the advised site. User:Migaela 17:25, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please first read conflict of interest and paid editing. You are welcome to give your concerns here, or on the article talk page. 331dot (talk) 13:47, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'd also suggest creating an account, so it's easier to interact with you, although you are not required to. 331dot (talk) 13:48, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! You might find it helpful to use the Wikipedia:Edit Request Wizard to suggest improvements to the article, and provide independent reliable sources. GoingBatty (talk) 14:38, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Serious help!

[edit]

Hello again! Guys, without redirecting me to read multiple articles that takes huge amount of time to read, just tell me why my translated article is considered for deleteion and how can I possibly prevent that from happening. I believe everything is fine about it, yet I can't figure out why it is going to be deleted. Thanks Wikipedia. Ehsancdn (talk) 13:49, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ehsancdn Different language versions of Wikipedia have different policies, and what is acceptable on one version is not necessarily acceptable on another. In short, it appears that this person does not meet our definition of a notable actor. Please go to the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Ghazal Saremi and review it. Also keep in mind that creating a new article is the most difficult task to attempt here, it's a good idea to take the time to read the pages people direct you to. 331dot (talk) 13:53, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
To prevent deletion, you must address the concerns raised. If you need time to do that, you can request that the article be draftified. 331dot (talk) 13:55, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Again, way more confusing and too general. It's not a new article, it's a translated article, doesn't it make any difference? Ehsancdn (talk) 14:33, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Existing on a different Wikipedia is not a direct factor in notability. In this case no. Sungodtemple (talkcontribs) 14:35, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ehsancdn How is it confusing? 331dot gave you a perfectly fine and comprehensible explanation. What don't you understand? Perhaps you need to read Wikipedia:ACTORBIO... Club On a Sub 20 (talk) 16:12, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know what I said that was too general- everything I said was specific to your situation. I'm aware that it's a translation; as I said, different Wikipedias have different rules about what is acceptable. 331dot (talk) 16:30, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys. Is it possible that we can talk outside of this platform? You're so experienced and I need some specific answers to my specific questions... If you're OK, we can have a conversation in some social media platform that's suitable for you. Ehsancdn (talk) 17:35, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ehsancdn, WP:IRC and WP:Discord are available, and some folks have email enabled. That said, Wikipedians generally prefer to keep conversations about Wikipedia on Wikipedia, for full transparency. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 17:39, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No! All conversations can be conducted here thank you. Theroadislong (talk) 17:41, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Not done All such discussions should take place on the talk page of the article, or on your talk page if the article has been deleted. We don't do "off-line" discussions, because it interferes with our principle of full transparency and open editing. --Orange Mike | Talk 01:03, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Civil Engineer John Smeaton

[edit]

He is not British he is English born and bred with a surname that originates in England with the Anglo-Saxons maning 'Settllements of the Smiths'. It is a Scottish editor who keeps changing it back to British! It makes no logical sense whatsooever and is plain bias! It is not right that many Scottish people on wiki are Scotttish and never British even when they have non Scottish surnames! Nothing suggests he is Btitish and it is inconsistent with meny other English people who are rightly called English and he is not! 146.90.190.136 (talk) 14:41, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there! I see you're referring to the John Smeaton article, where you have made some edits that have been reverted. Ranting and making accusations in your edit summaries is not constructive. Instead, per the Wikipedia:BOLD, revert, discuss cycle, please start a conversation at Talk:John Smeaton with reliable sources to support your claim. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 15:00, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You should read the footnote at Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style/Biography#cite_note-1. If there is any evidence that Smeaton considered himself mostly British or English, that would be nice to have. TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 15:38, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

RefToolbar

[edit]

I'm posting in response to this message left on my talk page earlier, and in the hope someone can help me with this. I edit on a Windows desktop using Chrome, and I've never had that toolbar appear at the top of an edit page. As a result I've always used Refill or Reflinks but I know there can be problems with both. I also sometimes edit with Safari through an Apple device and it doesn't appear on that either, so I'm assuming it's something to do with my settings. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance, This is Paul (talk) 19:09, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Trappist the monk (talk) 19:25, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@This is Paul: Hi there! On the Gadget tab of your Preferences, make sure that "refToolbar" is checked. Whether you use refToolbar or reFill or Reflinks or any other tool, you are responsible for making sure the citation template is created properly - no tool is perfect. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:26, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've just looked, and it was already ticked, so I've no idea why it doesn't appear. This is Paul (talk) 19:45, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The legacy (2006) toolbar was unticked, so I've ticked it and it's enabled the menu to appear, along with RefToolbar, so all sorted now. Thanks again, This is Paul (talk) 19:57, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
