You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikipedia, but if you wish to acquire additional privileges, you can simply create a named account. It's free, requires no personal information, and lets you:
- Create new pages and rename pages

Note that in order for the first three features to be available, you must have had an account for a minimum number of days and made a minimum number of edits.
If you edit without using a named account, your IP address (199.208.172.35) is used to identify you instead.
I hope that you, as a Wikipedian, decide to continue contributing to our project: an encyclopedia of human knowledge that anyone can edit. [edit]Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to Zanesville, Ohio, did not appear to be constructive and have been reverted. Response[edit]I certainly do not mind. I did not know doing that would cause that big of an issue. I actually couldn't figure out how to get it so the HTML would render as the text as clearly the code template didn't work. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:51, 3 May 2022 (UTC)

July 2022[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, discussion pages are meant to be a record of a discussion; deleting or editing legitimate comments, as you did at Wikipedia:Teahouse, is considered bad practice, even if you meant well. Even making spelling and grammatical corrections in others' comments is generally frowned upon, as it tends to irritate the users whose comments you are correcting. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. You shouldn’t edit or delete people’s messages without permission. Thank you. If it is a shared IP address and you are not logged in, you can continue to edit by logging in or creating an account. That can take seconds to sign in, if not, minutes. Did you delete a message from the Teahouse? 100.11.127.115 (talk) 14:47, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Question[edit]Did you receive an email notifying you of my latest reply, which was "Because you say "(not the publications list, the sources talking about him)," I googled and the hits were a mix of "Steve"s and "Stephen"s. I guess, then, that we can let it be. Maurice Magnus (talk) 13:59, 29 September 2022 (UTC)?? I ask because I want to know whether merely clicking "Reply" to a Teahouse comment results in the editor to whom I am replying receiving an email. If not, what do I have to enter to ensure that he or she receives an email? Thanks. Maurice Magnus (talk) 14:10, 29 September 2022 (UTC)

Question[edit]Since you appear to know a lot about alot, can you help me understand why a user would deleted their user page, but their talk page remains intact? I've come across that a couple times. I could not post on those pages if that means something about them having been blocked maybe or something? Here is one such example. — Moops ⋠T⋡ 22:51, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Outdenting[edit]When using
Trying to clear this up[edit]I am not Leansheat, a person whom I simply paid for work. If you would like to me delete Leansheat's work, please just say so. Otherwise, I will do so this evening. It was nothing but fixing link rot and lengthy quotations. Please bear in mind, that I am a member of the American middle-class, whereas Leansheat is likelier under more straitened economic circumstances. As I say, I can just delete the work, but there was no question of bias. The work was strictly neutral and technical beyond my abilities. Honestly, at this point, please delete the whole page if none of my suggestions can satisfy you. But in fairness I did not start the page; I was only trying to clean it up; and I have been recognized in significant ways. Brian Osgood (talk) 00:11, 27 January 2023 (UTC)
Thanks[edit]In case you didn't see it, thanks for your comment at the Teahouse, regarding dark mode. That was very helpful, to differentiate between a fully supported mode and a "hack". David10244 (talk) 07:49, 4 February 2023 (UTC)
A caution[edit]@LilianaUwU, I didn't want to bring this up at the Teahouse and I can't post on your talk page, so I'm pinging you here (I'm Tarlonniel from Discord, in case you're not aware). I see it was a sensitive subject for you, but I wanted to caution against making sweeping generalizations based on your own personal experiences, as you did here. Also, please try to keep the "friendly place" part of answering questions at the Teahouse a little more in mind. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:16, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

FAQ?[edit]Maybe you could add some sort of FAQ table at the top of your talk page to address some common questions you've been asked (such as why you don't have an account, which I recall you telling me once that you do technically have an account but don't have access to it)? ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:11, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

Congratulations, and thank you for helping expand the scope of Wikipedia! We hope you will continue making quality contributions. You may like to take a look at the grading scheme to see how you can improve the article. You may wish to consider registering an account so you can create articles yourself. If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask at the help desk. Once you have made at least 10 edits and had an account for at least four days, you will have the option to create articles yourself without posting a request to Articles for creation. Near the beginning of Content Assessment, I see this: "The quality assessments are mainly performed by Wikipedia editors, who tag talk pages of articles." That seems like a directive to tag the talk page of an article, not the article page. At least, that's how I interpret it. Hope this helps. David10244 (talk) 11:01, 22 April 2023 (UTC)

Your help desk response
[edit]I see you answer Help Desk questions a lot. Your responses look good to be, for the most part. I am way behind in the archives, and you said here that IPs can't edit user pages. I have found that in fact, they can. Using private browsing, I was able to get to the edit screen and I could have made a change.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:35, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
How about that. You were right. I don't know why they give the impression you can. I was blocked.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 22:39, 6 August 2024 (UTC)
This is the discussion page for an IP user, identified by the user's IP address. Many IP addresses change periodically, and are often shared by several users. If you are an IP user, you may create an account or log in to avoid future confusion with other IP users. Registering also hides your IP address. |
