Slippy Sausage (talk) 18:14, 28 September 2022 (UTC) @Slippy Sausage, when the little "Reply" button was added for all editors (six months ago now? a year?), I started just using that in conversations, and it does automatically create the correct indent level. Before that feature was available, I had to indent manually. There are still occasions when the reply button doesn't work and I have to do things myself. This particular IP address has been stable for a remarkably long time - it used to shift quite often. I'm sure it'll change again eventually, and, of course, when I post from a different computer in a different location, my IP is different. It doesn't bother me; if it's important to a conversation, I just say that I've shifted to a new address. I don't get any notification of replies (I don't even get notification of pings!). It may be different for those with accounts, depending on the preferences they've set, the add-ons they've installed and whether or not there's an email address attached to their account. I know there's a new tool in the works which lets account holders subscribe to particular threads (notifying them of replies) but I don't know how widely used it is as of yet. Best practice is just to ping folks in your replies unless they tell you it's not necessary. It's not a consequence of being blocked, and I can think of several reasons. For instance, I know for sure there are some people who like not having a user page, they prefer the redlinked name, and if a well-meaning (or possibly not so well-meaning) person creates their user page anyway, they ask for it do be deleted. Also, it's possible they may not want the history of the page to be available for a number of reasons. I'd think that since IP's are usually dynamic, that you'd pop in and out of a range of IPs and not consistently have access to the same IP. I don't know.
