Automatic logout from wikipedia

[edit]

Hello, I have an account in wikipedia. When i login ( with “up to 365 days...” checked), after a few days it automatically logs me out. Is there a way to stay permanently logged in ? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dost17 (talkcontribs) 04:32, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You ask the same question at the "Help desk", Dost17. Please only ask a question in one place at one time. The question seems better suited to the Help desk than here. I suggest that any response is posted there. -- Hoary (talk) 04:53, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
This is the help desk and Dost17 only posted here. PrimeHunter (talk) 05:22, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Oopsie! Sorry, Dost17. -- Hoary (talk) 11:26, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I already read https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Logging_in, not finding there any help, my logout is after “some days”, not in the immediate session. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dost17 (talkcontribs) 08:45, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Ok. I think i figured it out, i think. It is somehow related to cleaning my browsing history in the browser, which does something to the cookies. I wish it was written in the FAQ. Case closed, for now.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dost17 (talkcontribs) 09:04, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Dost17! If you delete your cookies, your browser doesn't have the ability to remain logged in to any website (depending on what is deleted). There are many reasons to delete your browsing history (although, if you are trying to remove specific websites, maybe it is worth opening them in some sort of incognito mode regardless), but there is usually a button to press to remove deleting cookies, which is what would help with this. If not, just log in again! Best Wishes, Lee Vilenski (talkcontribs) 11:46, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wrongly pisted ohotograph

[edit]

On the Benno Schotz (my late father) site there appears a photograph of the sculptor Benno Elkan, standing in front of his sculptured Menorah. It should be removed and reposted on the Benno Elkan page. Thank you, Amiel Schotz — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.177.190.25 (talk) 06:23, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! I can't see any such photo on the WP-article Benno Schotz. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:10, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Are you by any chance referring to a photo or text shown to the right of a Google search? Google's Knowledge Graph uses a wide variety of sources. There may be a text paragraph ending with "Wikipedia" to indicate that particular text was copied from Wikipedia. An image and other text before or after the Wikipedia excerpt may be from sources completely unrelated to Wikipedia. We have no control over how Google presents our information, but Google's Knowledge Graph has a "Feedback" link where anyone can mark a field as wrong. The same feedback facility is also provided on Bing and some other search engines.--Shantavira|feed me 08:11, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Anarchism articles by quality and importance - articles stuck in "NA"

[edit]

Hi, I have been working on assessing articles and have noticed that, even though articles have an "importance=" assigned to them, they are stuck in the "NA" category. Just wondering if there was a way to fix this? Looks like 35 articles need help with this. Anarchism. Jamzze (talk) 08:52, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jamzze that's a third party site, so not sure how to invalidate the cache, but see Wikipedia:Purge for resetting caches on Wikipedia infrastructure. It's not super urgent in this case, and may be fixed on its own eventually (e.g. if it's using a daily data dump). If that's not good enough, I'd ask at WP:Village Pump (Technical) ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:32, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Change reverted as being "not constructive" !!!???

[edit]

Hello,

I don't understand why "Materialscientist" reverted my change related to Jean-Paul Goude birth date as being not "constructive" (see text below). I confirm that the official Jean-Paul Goude' birthday date and place is : december 8, 1938 at Montreuil (93100)

User talk:Renéclaudel94 From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to navigationJump to search October 2021 Information icon Hello, I'm Materialscientist. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Jean-Paul Goude—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Help desk. Thanks. Materialscientist (talk) 13:51, 20 October 2021 (UTC)

Renéclaudel94Renéclaudel94 (talk) 09:35, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Renéclaudel94 It was reverted because you did not provide a source- Wikipedia has a strict policy about how living persons are edited about, see WP:BLP. All information in an article about a living person must be well sourced. For further information, please ask Materialscientist directly, on their user talk page. 331dot (talk) 09:38, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

badly indexed entry?

[edit]

Searching for "Chastye islands" says "The page Chastye islands does not exit.". But the first sugeested entry is "Chastye Islands". What's up with that? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ScotKelly (talkcontribs) 13:33, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

ScotKelly, this is normal, as page names are case sensitive (apart from the first letter) so Chastye islands does not exist, but Chastye Islands does. TSventon (talk) 13:41, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@ScotKelly: Where are you making the search? The search box at top of every page should go directly to a page which only differs by capitalization. It works for me. The big search box at Special:Search works differently. It never goes directly to a page, and it says if the searched capitalization does not exist. WipeOS data erasure

[edit]

Hello,

my company is a leader in the data erasure software industry. We have been around for over 5 years and have over 100 clients worldwide. I would like to know how I may get our solution listed here;

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_data-erasing_software

Any input is appreciated and I look forward to adding valuable details here n Wikipedia.

Josh Heath - www.wipeos.com - (Redacted) Lvit2levi (talk) 13:57, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The criterion for adding entries to such lists is that they have standalone Wikipedia articles. (Some exceptions apply but none is really relevant here.)
The criterion to have a standalone article is given at WP:NPRODUCT. Based on a quick online search and what you say, I am almost certain that there is nowhere enough significant coverage to demonstrate notability (the number of clients is irrelevant to the evaluation, but most companies that do have pages have more than "over 100 clients worldwide").
Finally, Lvit2levi, I redacted your phone number, which you should not put on Wikipedia for multiple reasons (it is dangerous privacy-wise, and useless to making Wikipedia edits); and you should read and comply with our paid contributor terms of use. Help titling my draft in sandbox

[edit]

Hello,

I am not an autoconfirmed user as yet but I have made ten good faith edits to a wikipedia article, and 27 to the draft in my sandbox. I am unsure of how to title my draft. That is, I am unsure as to how I may make it so that, upon publishing, my article says "Dara" in the title and not "User:Manu9305/sandbox".

Please advise.

Best, Manu.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Manu9305/sandbox

Manu9305 (talk) 15:46, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Manu9305: Hi there! If your draft is accepted, the accepting editor will change the title for you. Since there is already an article called Dara about the given name, the accepting editor would pick a name unique to Wikipedia, and then add a link from Dara (disambiguation) to the new article. Hope this helps, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:09, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Manu9305 Welcome to Help Desk! I'd recommend Dara (software) as the title, because Dara is already taken. I modified the request for you by using Draft template that includes a suggested title. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 18:04, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to or should I note legislative redistricting in an Infobox

[edit]

Hi, I'm currently editing an article about a historical politician in my state, more specifically, I am adding an infobox to the article along with more information. While I know his district thanks to state records, by the end of his term the state underwent a major change to it's legislative districts which I've failed to find any record of beyond it's existence. The change is such that the naming convention of districts itself changed, and I cannot find a record either of the legislative districts before or after this change.

Because of this, while I can know this politician's predecessor, I cannot know their successor. I'm not entirely sure how to present this information, if at all. Is it acceptable to leave the successor entry blank if I cannot or do not know? Should I somehow make note of this redistricting, with a citation demonstrating that it occurred?

Similarly, how are situations of redistricting handled even if the successor may be known?

Thanks, — Preceding unsigned comment added by Calphff (talkcontribs) 16:26, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Calphff: Hi there! If you cannot find a reliable source, then leave the infobox parameter blank. You can also ask for assistance on the article's talk page. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 18:47, 25 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Infoboxes are pretty blunt instruments for something subtle like a major redistricting. It's better to describe the succession issue in the article's text. "The old 3rd Gaines County district was eliminated in the 1853 legislative redistricting. Axolotl, Potrzebie, Melvin and Alfred townships went into the new 42nd District; the Villages of Cowznofski and Spa Fon, and Wallywood and Willelder townships, became part of the 47th District; and the Cities of Whatmeworrry and Neumann, encompassing 73% of the old district, became the new 23rd District. Joe Btfsplk was elected in the 1854 election to represent that district." --Orange Mike | Talk 13:05, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I know this isn't a question, but I just want to say Wikipedia is awesome!!! I so wish I could donate but I can't. Tell the creator that I kind of feel bad about Wikipedia possibly going down. I would hate that. Wikipedia is great for teaching, and even editing! I just wanted to say that this website is awesome! @BlackDragon450 The Wikimedia Foundation is doing rather well, financially. They keep asking for money because they want it to stay that way, which is sound thinking. Keep making good edits! Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:16, 26 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
