Translation of official sources

Greetings, Zozoulia! I reverted your recent edit to Roads in Israel. The reason is that, although your words may seem fitting, they do not reflect the local official terminology used by the Israel Ministry of Transport (MOT). If we are going to say: "Roads in Israel are categorized as...", should we use American, British or German terminology? Surely we should use the official terminology of the Israel MOT. These are, after all Israeli roads. I agree that some of the points insinuated by your edit should be added to the section which you edited, eg, that what you call Motorways (Controlled-access highways) may have 1, 2 or 3 numerals. However, it is more correct to say that there are some "Inter-City roads" (such as Highway 50) or "Regional roads (such as Route 531)" which are in fact "Controlled-access highways". However your edit, I believe, is simply an incorrect translation of official terminology. If you believe differently, I hope you will open a discussion on the Talk:Roads in Israel page. Anastasia [Missionedit] The article in question is entitled Barry Freundel, the Peeping Tom rabbi who just plead guilty to 52 counts of voyeurism. The other editor wanted to add the following at the end of the article:

After Freundel pleaded guilty to charges of voyeurism, The Washington Post noted the impact of his case on the Jewish community. His situation has highlighted fissures within the modern Orthodox community regarding the role of women and about the shortage of accountability by religious leaders. Freundel's crimes also sparked debate about how converts to Judaism are treated, given that some of those he converted complained about their continued "outsider" status, contrasting Judaism with religions such as Christianity and Islam, which embrace converts more enthusiastically. The Washington Post later modified the article to delete these comments[1][2]

The Washington Post, however, removed this statement about converts to Judaism, Christianity and Islam from the text as it appears on their site. The other editor linked to a cached version on an unrelated web site. I removed it, contending that by re-editing the text the newspaper was tacitly admitting a reservation, inaccuracy or unsubstantiated generalization (which it clearly was, which is another violation of Wikipedia policy). Ah, I see. Sometimes it is fine to include/cite information that has been removed from a source; but, considering it is controversial info, you were right in having reservations. I would say that in this case, the information should not be cited/used to be safe. If you want a more concrete answer to your question, maybe you should ask it at the Wikipedia:Help desk (with full a explanation of the scenario). Erroneous page move

I see that you have erroneously moved an article into the Wikipedia: namespace at Wikipedia:Tsuriel Raphael. It should be in the article namespace at Tsuriel Raphael but you'll need to get an administrator to move it there. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:30, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

To fix your signature, I advise first resetting it to the basic standard, by clicking "Preferences" at the top of the screen and then, on the "User profile" tab, uncheck the box marked "Treat the above as wiki markup", and clear the box immediately above it. That will give you the standard signature, like the one I use, when you type ~~~~ at the end of a message. Just a heads-up that you don't need to use ~~~~ in edit summaries, as any page that shows your edit summary will show your username anyway. Also, tildes in edit summaries don't convert into signatures.

Please stop edit warring

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on Israel-related animal conspiracy theories. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Please be particularly aware that Wikipedia's policy on edit warring states:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made.
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

You make poor faith edits and wild accusations, including the insinuation of anti-semitism (I edit lots of articles on Japan, and created the article on a Reggae artist named Jesse Royal, why no mention of that?) I myself support the creation of state of Kurdistan because having a non-Arab, secular and independent country is beneficial to the region and the whole Middle East but not Ahwaz which is Arab and more likely to be another Saudi Arabia's puppet state. I also responded as follows on the CoI page:

1. Zvi Harry Hurwitz is not a business. He was an Israeli diplomat, journalist and political operative. The insinuation that I was paid for it is ludicrous. The man is dead. I knew him and once worked with him some 35 years ago and wrote the article for altruistic reasons alone.

2. Zohar Zisapel, together with his brother Yehuda, founded Israel's first home-grown hi-tech start-up group. Both brothers have served as chairmen of the country's electronics industry association. As the article notes, he is often called the "Bill Gates of Israel" in the media. The industry he created now employs something like 10% of the Israeli workforce. Perhaps calling him the "Bill Gates of Israel" is an understatement. I wrote the article together with a friend who is also a Wikipedia contributor, and both of us know the Zisapels (so do thousands of other Israelis who have been involved in the hi-tech sector and in the various charities they support, but we received no payment. In fact, Zohar was unaware we wrote the article and may even be unaware that it exists -- we've never spoken to him about it.

3. I wrote the article on Safe Drive Systems after it's Israeli competitor, Mobileye, was purchased by Intel for $15 billion. Mobileye, apart from having its own article, is mentioned in the Intel and Intel Mobile Communications articles (and maybe more). Because I know people who work in both Mobileye and Safe Drive Systems, I also know that it is inherently unfair to host an article about one and not to have one about the other, since collision detection technology is not unique to Mobileye. Senior Wikipedians

WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older has been inactive for some time. The following three proposals may help invigorate this project.

  1. Change the name of this project to WikiProject Senior Wikipedians.[a]
  2. Open membership in this project to users who are at least 60 years of age and have made at least 50 edits in the past year.[b]
  3. Open supporting membership in this project to users who are less than 60 years old but have made at least 50 edits in the past year and support the goals of this project.[c]

Suggested goals for this project:

  1. To support collaboration and communication among members for the advancement and improvement of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.
  2. To encourage older people, retired people, and soon-to-be-retired people to participate in Wikipedia both for the advancement of the encyclopedia and for their own personal enjoyment.
  3. To encourage older people to share their experience and expertise for the improvement of Wikipedia.
  4. To encourage older users to use their experience and expertise to help younger and less experienced users.
  5. To encourage participation in local and regional Wikimedia events.
  6. To sponsor Wikipedia meetings and classes at places where older people gather.
  7. To advocate for the elimination of ageism and sexism in Wikipedia and the Wikimedia movement.

Notes

  1. ^ The current name of this project, WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older, is somewhat cumbersome and excludes participation by any users under the age of 70 years.
  2. ^ This current minimum age limit of this project is 70 years. A minimum age limit of 60 years should permit the participation of most retired users. The minimum activity level of 50 edits per year is arbitrary. A minimum activity level indicates continued interest. Members who do not meet the minimum activity level shall be moved to inactive status. Members who have died shall be moved to memorial status.
  3. ^ A new class of Supporting Members allows those users under 60 years to support the goals of the project. Users approaching the age of 60 years may wish to become supporting members in anticipation of reaching the minimum age limit for members.

Elder Wikipedians

WikiProject Elder Wikipedians

My proposal to make extensive changes to WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older was a bust, primarily because many users felt that the term "Senior Wikipedian" implied a higher ranking Wikipedia membership. Therefore, I am making two less ambitious proposals:

Proposal #1. Change the name of "WikiProject Wikipedians aged 70 and older" to "WikiProject Elder Wikipedians".
Proposal #2. Drop the minimum age requirement to 60 years.
