Schuyler Copper Mine
[edit]Hi. I moved Schuyler Copper Mine into article space last night, but forgot to tell you; great article, well done. You might want to think about whether there are any pages which can link to Schuyler Copper Mine ... right now it's an orphan. thanks --Tagishsimon (talk) 07:50, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- So you have; excellent. That's the only way they get read ;) You might also want to think about a WP:DYK nomination ... I'll maybe have a look at that later today, but you'd be welcome to jump the gun and self-nominate (but the cost of a self-nomination is that you'd have to inspect someone else's DYK.) Assuming success, that would get it onto the front page for 12 hours or so. --Tagishsimon (talk) 12:49, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
I'd be happy to nominate this piece and would like to use a hook such as the below, but the info would have to been added as an inline citation. This would slight change the article as written, but I believe most sources support fact that it was not first-built engine in America, but first ever use in America. (not only in copper mine). If you feel comfortable with and make change think it be a great DYK article.Djflem (talk) 21:55, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- DYK that.....the first (use of a) steam engine in America took place in 1753 at Schuyler's Copper Mine?
Leinhard, John. H. (1988–1997). "No. 1085 The First American Steam Engine". Engines of Our Ingenuity. www.uh.edu (University of Houston). Retrieved 2011-12-14.{{cite web}}
: CS1 maint: date format (link)
- We'd better sort out the date first. The engine was delivered in 1753 but not steamed until 1755 according both to http://www.uh.edu/engines/epi1085.htm and the current ref 4 - Woodward 1944, p. 49. About the engine, Woodward p.50 states "This engine was one of the first three steam engines, possibly the earliest, to be erected in North America." --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:40, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- FWIW, one of the key DYK checks is that the reference material exactly backs up the sentence in which it is used as a reference. I'm a bit concerned that "In 1753, it was the site of the first use in America of a steam engine to pump water out of the mine.[4]" is not supported on p.49 of Woodward to which the ref [4] points. My reading was that p.49 burbled on about the building process, etc, and it was not until p.50 that we got any claim from Woodward, and that was the "one of the first three" claim. Happily the Leinhard reference looks very supportive for the "first use" claim. I don't know enough about the history of steam engines in the US to advise you on how to make use of Woodward's "one of the first three" reference. Have fun! --Tagishsimon (talk) 23:18, 15 December 2011 (UTC)
- It's better. I still don't think ref 4 supports the assertion made. You might just want to withdraw that reference, or else note its claim - one of the first three. "Different claims are made that it was one of the first three engines in the USA[4]"? Sadly we've missed the DYK deadline. I wouldn't worry over this one overmuch; get on and do your next ;) --Tagishsimon (talk) 22:09, 19 December 2011 (UTC)

There is already a stub article for this ship sloop. I note that you have drafted an article under user:Zeete for this ship, and clearly the two should be combined. Can you merge your relevent information into that shown in the live stub article? I should mention that the slight differences in dimensions quoted are due to the fact that the live article contains the actual (as-built) dimensions, whereas your draft article gives the design dimensions for the Swan class ship sloops. Rif Winfield (talk) 13:54, 7 August 2012 (UTC)
- Many thanks! The article is considerably improved. Note that all wooden ships, by the nature of "give" in the material of construction, finally emerged when measured after launch with slight differences from the designed dimensions, albeit only by a few incres or even fractions of an inch (most of the time, measurements were taken to the nearest eighth of an inch); the Navy Board had the principal deimensions measured for every ship or vessel upon its launch, whether built in a Royal dockyard or by private contractor (in the latter case, the exact dimensions determined the burthen tonnage of the craft, which in turn determined the price paid to the builder, which was always per burthen ton). - Response given. Since you've found the HABS documentation, would you mind expanding the article with it? Right now the length is rather minimal, and it would definitely be more helpful with additional information. Nyttend (talk) 23:40, 13 December 2013 (UTC)

Announcing: NRHP Fall Photo Contest!
[edit]The WP:NRHP Fall 2014 Photo Contest will kick off at midnight eastern time on Monday September 1! This is an opportunity for all folks with a camera (or a sketchpad and scanner, doncha know) and an interest in the National Register of Historic Places to just have some low-key fun and maybe get some barnstars. Come submit some photos or pose a challenge to your fellow editors. And maybe, just maybe, along the line we'll improve the encyclopedia... (Note that while this contest is intentionally concurrent with Wiki Loves Monuments 2014 and the Wikipedia Summer of Monuments, there ain't gonna be no cash prizes or press releases here. But compete in 'em all if you like - we won't be jealous.) — Ipoellet (talk) 22:55, 30 August 2014 (UTC)
Autopatrolled granted
[edit]Hi Zeete, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! — Earwig talk 22:50, 5 January 2016 (UTC)
Hi, please see note on your DYK review. It's fine to suggest an alternate hook, but per Rule H2 you cannot approve your own hook; you should call on another reviewer to do so. Best, Yoninah (talk) 19:06, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

List of crossings of the Upper Passaic River
[edit]Thanks for your contribution to List of crossings of the Upper Passaic River. The DYK nomination at Template:Did you know nominations/List of crossings of the Upper Passaic River has been on the boards for the while. Since you seem o be familiar w/ DYK, wonder if you'd have a look and see if you believe it's ready to move. Thanks. Djflem (talk) 17:10, 3 January 2017 (UTC)
- @Djflem:: I'm not sure it would be okay by the DYK rules. I'll post a question on the nomination. Zeete (talk) 18:31, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

Trumbull template
[edit]Hi, and thanks for the catch on the link on the John Trumbull template. My mistake was copying the links from the Trumbull page itself from the 'Paintings' section, and that's where the redirect existed. I just changed that link to a direct link as well. Thanks again, and, since I'm not sure if we've "talked" before, thank you (from an editor and a reader) for your good work here. Randy Kryn (talk) 17:22, 25 July 2018 (UTC)
@Randy Kryn: Thanks. I should also thank you for your good work. Zeete (talk) 17:31, 25 July 2018 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Islands of Dutchess County, New York
[edit]A tag has been placed on Category:Islands of Dutchess County, New York requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. NJ NRHPs
[edit]Thank you for creating Beach Haven Historic District as a nice new NRHP article with multiple photos (nice ones by Jerrye & Roy KLOTZ), and for your creating multiple new other NJ NRHP articles. It is really great that you're using/developing full NRHP references and searching out the photos. There were a bunch of NJ NRHP articles created a while back with less good stuff, which i was afraid was turning off potential new editors in the area. Glad you are expanding the coverage and improving the average quality! Know that you can see the effect you make upon NJ's coverage at wp:NRHPPROGRESSNJ and in the maps at top of wp:NRHPPROGRESS page, at least if you bring a county's percentage covered over a 10% mark. I can't help but watch there to see the effect of my edits in other states. Keep up the good work! cheers, --Doncram (talk) 03:14, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
@Doncram: Thanks for the encouragement. I agree that the progress page is a great resource. So many photos, so little time. Zeete (talk) 13:06, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
George Washington personal chief Flag in DeWint House (commons)
[edit]I've found on commons your nice picture of George Washington personal chief Flag in DeWint House
..it seems to be the only on the whole commons/wikipedia;
do you have more picture about this flag?
..i think can be good to made an article about this flag, Washington's Commander-in-Chief Flag (see Elements about flag origin as mix between Grand Union Flag and personal Washington flag "blue with 13 six-pointed stylized stars")
--151.36.165.24 (talk) 20:14, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- His personal flag is featured at the DeWint House, which was used as his headquarters while he was commander-in-chief. Only photo I have, it was a windy day.
- James Peale's painting, The Battle of Princeton, is an early depiction of this flag. "An added detail is the General’s unique headquarters flag, all stars and no stripes." [Princeton Art Museum]
- The town of Washington, New York has adopted the flag, see Flag of Washington, New York.
- — Zeete (talk) 17:41, 6 May 2019 (UTC)
- Well, some other picture is in really on Commons (your one start the category so named): Commons:Category:George_Washington's_personal_flag
Anyway, i hope someone put a photo of the original flag (from Museum of the American Revolution) to commons:

Name for Old Bridge (unincorporated community), New Jersey
[edit]Can I suggest Old Bridge, East Brunswick, New Jersey as an alternative name for the article Old Bridge (unincorporated community), New Jersey? Any thoughts? Alansohn (talk) 13:49, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: That was my first thought, but WP:PLACE states "If more than one place within the same county has the same name, specify the type of local government unit in parentheses before the comma." Follows Old Bridge (CDP) naming. I could add a redirect of the above name. What do you think? Thanks, Zeete (talk) 13:57, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- That should work. Alansohn (talk) 14:52, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: Done. Thanks, Zeete (talk) 14:58, 9 June 2021 (UTC)
Jeanne Demessieux on OTD
[edit]Thanks for adding Jeanne Demessieux to Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/November 11. Unfortunately, there are a few problems with the article. First, the introduction is too short, consisting of only a single sentence. Please see MOS:LEAD for what constitutes a good introduction. Secondly, the list of compositions has no references, nor does the discography, so that's going to disqualify the article from inclusion. If you can fix those up, we can feature it. Thanks. —howcheng {chat} 17:24, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Howcheng: I updated the lead and added an obvious discography reference. Not sure how to reference the rest. What do you think? Thanks, Zeete (talk) 18:29, 9 November 2021 (UTC)
- Most likely, it will require a source like a biography or Grove Music to get that. —howcheng {chat} 17:07, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
- @Howcheng: Thanks for the idea. I added a Grove Music ref for several compositions. Thanks, Zeete (talk) 18:38, 10 November 2021 (UTC)
images of statues
[edit]Thanks for creation of Equestrian statue of George Washington (Newark). Foto is great, but unsure of copyright laws/storage on Wikimedia Commons with regard to statues. Because of age, might be fine/free-use, but if not, might be at risk of deletion. Works of art can be downloaded as file to Wikipedia directly when used for discussion of that work. Just sayin'. Djflem (talk) 09:02, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
- @Djflem: Thanks! I was inspired to create the article by your work on the List of public art in Newark, New Jersey. I've started to add complete copyright info to the photos. And thanks for the improvements to the article. Thanks, Zeete (talk) 13:07, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Limekilns or Lime Kilns?
[edit]You created the article Moses Craig Limekilns, with "Limekilns" as one word; Thank you for creating this article and for all of your work on these places on the NRHP. Once I saw your new article, I linked to it in Peapack-Gladstone, New Jersey, using the article title. But in this edit, you twice changed the link to Moses Craig Lime Kilns (with "Lime Kilns" as two words), which is a redirect. Should it be "Limekilns" or "Lime Kilns" and shouldn't we be consistent in using one word or two? Alansohn (talk) 14:51, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: The technical name from the NRHP and the NJRHP uses one word, limekiln. However, the common name is two words, lime kiln, as seen in the Peapack-Gladstone, New Jersey article before your change, as seen in the information signs at the site, and as found in online references. I tried to use the common name, namely Moses Craig Lime Kilns, as much as possible, but kept the technical term for NRHP-specific items. Thanks, Zeete (talk) 16:09, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME says that we should use "Lime Kilns" (two words) if that's what people commonly use. If we're using "Lime Kilns" in mentions and links in the Peapack-Gladstone, New Jersey article, then why not change the name of the article from "Moses Craig Limekilns" (one word) to "Moses Craig Lime Kilns" (two words) and indicate that the one-word name is also used? There's no requirement that the article title match the wording used by the NRHP. Alansohn (talk) 16:28, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: A possibility, I went with minimal changes to existing articles and deferred to NRHP/NJRHP terminology. Thanks, Zeete (talk) 17:35, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- I'm happy either way, but not both. I would personally lean to "Lime Kilns", which looks much less glaringly wrong that "Limekilns", but I defer to you and your expertise with NHRP sites and naming conventions. I would fully support a rename of the article to use the two-word "Lime Kilns" option and maintain consistency using the two words across the board. Alansohn (talk) 17:38, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: Let me try to rename it. Thanks, Zeete (talk) 17:45, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Alansohn: Done! Thanks, Zeete (talk) 17:52, 20 November 2023 (UTC)
