I think you can move it to mainspace now. I've added significant amount of stuff. I suggest the article title should be "Witnesses and testimonies of the Armenian Genocide"...some redirect should apply as well...for example, "Witnesses of the Armenian Genocide" should be redirected. LOL you claim to fight against "ultra-nationalism", though you assume things on the comments of "some kid". Really? Tigranes the Great lived in 1st century BC. Christianity was adopted in 301 AD. Well considering comment I guess he's around 15. :) I don't fight actually, I collect them as other people post stamps. Some of my favorites from ex-Yugoslav region is that Alexander the Great is Slavic Macedonian, Christopher Columbus is Croat and Virgin Mary is Serb. Such funny claims are based on "analizes" by local "scholars", but fortunately not so accepted to keep them on national Wikipedias. I'm not sure how Armenian Wikipedia stands with own similar issues, but I must say Azerbaijani is complete disaster - just take a look at their template History of Azerbaijan: representative photo is victory of Naram-Sin Akkadian against tribes from Luristan in 23 century BC. After seeing such nonsense I feel bigger Armenian then you are, despite not being Apostolic Christian. :) --HistorNE (talk) 20:13, 6 August 2013 (UTC)

I'm not going to comment the Azerbaijani historiography, because my country and Azerbaijan are in a state of war and everything I say here will be used against me. I don't think claims such as the Alexander the Great one being a Slav should not even be talked about. DYK has been very odd lately with long arguments about whether "woman" professor or "female" professor should be used, pulling an article from the prep area that was approved on July 16 just because of one editor's opinion about a hook, excessive nitpicking, and your nomination as well. Regarding your edit, please note the following WP policies:

Nationality: Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biographies clearly states: "In most modern-day cases this will mean the country of which the person is a citizen, national or permanent resident, or if notable mainly for past events, the country where the person was a citizen, national or permanent resident when the person became notable."

Per WP:RS, the original source, i.e. the book, does supersede the newspaper articles that are merely based/cite from that source.

All the newspaper articles provided by Marek, are based on the same book: Stefan Kornelius, Angela Merkel: Die Kanzlerin und ihre Welt, Hoffmann und Campe, 2013, page 1915, ISBN-13: 978-3455502916. The book (all the articles are based on) states that he was a "German citizen" with "Polish roots" (...deutscher Staatsbürger ... polnische Wurzeln). That's exactly what the article should state, and not some adulterated teaser version from a newspaper that claims to state the revelations/content of that very same book, while it obviously does not. Aram Khachaturian

I saw the edit reverts regarding Aram Khachaturian and the explanatory comments accompanying them, and I thought I would point out that "one of the major musicians of the 20th century" is not the best writing in English. I know nothing about the source, but I do know something about English. If one wants to use "major musician", it would be more correct to write that he was "a major musician of the 20th century". Also, even though "major" and "great" are similar in meaning, their slightly different meanings convey a different attitude: "major" means "important" while "great" means "important, wonderful, outstanding". Finally, "major" has only one form: "major". "Great" has three forms: "great", "greater", and "greatest". Compare: He was "a major musician of the 20th century" and he was "one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century". Clearly, the second one expresses greater praise and admiration than the first.CorinneSD (talk) 22:47, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

I would assume that any any English native speaker would have a better command of that language than me. The source says: "Aram Ilych Khachaturyan was an Armenian Soviet composer, conductor, pedagogue, a public and musical figure, a People’s Artiste of the USSR, the author of the music of the Armenian Soviet Republic’s anthem and overall one of the major musicians of the 20th century." Because I didn't want to simply copy-paste it I wrote "one of the greatest", assuming that "one of the major" and "one of the greatest" are no different. Ah - I see another editor has "got here first" on this point. Corinne's absolutely right about the distinction. Just to say that we can't say someone's "one of the greatest" unless we find a citation which actually says this; and much as I - and I'm sure many other people - love Khachaturian's music, I have to admit that there's a very large number of composers I would expect to be cited as "one of the greatest" before our dear Aram. Well ultimately, as far as Wikipedia is concerned, it's not my opinion (or anyone else's) on relative "greatness" which matters - only what is verifiable from a reliable published source. But I don't want to come across as 'curt' by not saying more, so please forgive me if I explain myself, though this is to stray - as far as Wikipedia's concerned - into the realms of original research. For the background to Khachaturian's rise, which I believe was at least as much because of his non-bourgeois and ethnic background as due to his innate talent, I recommend Amy Nelson's Music for the Revolution - this really makes a lot of sense of the "discussions" Khachaturian was having as a student in the late-1920s. I hasten to add that, notwithstanding the motivations the Soviet State had for promoting Khachaturian's career, he was clearly a benevolent force: particularly as vice-chairman of the organizing committee of the Soviet Composer's Union, Khachaturian clearly understood far more about what composers needed for their creativity and well-being than did such Soviet officials as Platon Kherzentsev. This, I think, explains why he was so viciously attacked in 1948 - the supposed transgression of composing the Symphonic Poem seems to me simply convenient ammunition. A fair number of scholars are beginning to argue that 1948 was not at root about discordant music - that was, at best, a symptom - but about the far too autonomous role the Composer's Union and its organizing committee in particular was playing, awarding huge sums of money to Shostakovich and Prokofiev in particular via commissions and Stalin Prizes. Khachaturian's key role in this made him an obvious target. Until then, he was certainly promoted as a "titan" of Soviet music - largely due to having the approved ethnic and non-bourgeois background, so becoming an ideal Soviet-nurtured "star" the state could proudly "show off" and indeed export through his Piano and Violin concertos and such popular hits as the "Sabre Dance". Khachaturian's talent was, I think, rather greater than this implies, but still not as great as a composer as either Shostakovich or Prokofiev. Alfietucker (talk) 09:07, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Honestly, I don't know much about his biography in order to agree or disagree with you, but the point is that he is a well known composer that lived in the 20th century. Whether you or me put him in the list of the "greatest", he is quite known. He might have been promoted as a star by the Soviet state for the given reasons, but that's a small detail in my opinion, because at last, every great composer (and other artists) had been in some way supported by the state. --Երևանցի ^talk 20:14, 1 October 2013 (UTC)

At the risk of upsetting people who follow WPs injunction against opinion, I want to weigh in again on "one of the greatest musicians (or composers) of the 20th century". To say that is not to say anything about whether he is greater, or less great, than other great musicians (or composers) of the 20th century. There is no comparison implied here to other great musicians/composers of the 20th century such as Shostakovich and Prokofiev. There is comparison to all musicians/composers of the 20th century. I think there is plenty of evidence for this, and music historians can add the references. Also, the people who are most likely to read this article are those who know nothing, or very little, about Aram Khachaturian. If we remove every last shred of "opinion" such as this from Wikepedia articles, the articles will be dull and boring.CorinneSD (talk) 17:27, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for your interest. I found only one source. Here's some useful information from it. It's 6.5 meters high, it used to have 6 columns. It was built using "yellow stones" and basalt. The article confirms that it was built in 1625. The only wall that is still standing is the northern one, while the southern wall is completely ruined. Its size is 15x10 meters. It was renovated in the 1800s. There are tombstones around the church, perhaps of the members of a wealthy family that financed its renovation.

about the new infobox in the Ani article

Hi, I'm the guy who just did some minor edits on Ani. Through the comments on the successive edits you made, I understood you had some questions about my edits, so let me explain. I mentioned the 18th century as the period of abandonment in the infobox because of the following sentence in the "Sacking and desolation" subsection of the "History" section:

"A small town remained within its walls at least until the middle of the 17th century, but the site was entirely abandoned by the middle of the 18th. The depopulation of Ani was paralleled by the depopulation of its rural hinterland as a result of political unrest in the border region during the Ottoman-Iranian wars and a fragmentation of central control by either of the empires."

I considered this the end of the occupation, but I guess you're right with your correction to 1319. Hello Alexander. I guess it might be right, but unfortunately there is no source to back it up so its safer to have 1319 for abandonment. I've been trying to improve the lead first of all that's why I added a sentence about the earthquake to the lead first. I'll try to work on the history section as well. Okay, that makes sense. I've just looked at your latest sequence of edits, and this is the first time I see another Wikipedian editing an article with the same enthusiasm and scrutiny as I have. Maybe it's because I mainly edit exotic and less popular articles, most articles on archaeological sites don't see much activity. However, I think the article's source text has become difficult to read and edit because of the clutter caused by the long references. In the articles I've written – Sybaris for example – I've used named references. This way all the content of the references goes in the References section and you just place a link to the reference in the text. Armenians are an ethnic group of 8 million people. Did they all participate in the protests? Did all Istanbul Armenians participate in the anti-government protests? From what I know, only a small group of Armenian youth of Istnanbul joined the protests. Unfortunately, no. It's a 20 year old picture and there's no way it's in public domain. I mean you can always try uploading it under non-free use rationale, but you need to prove that it has an encyclopedic value. Also, I don't think a picture is neccesary.
