For your bizarre yet humorous comments at WP:AfD, especially here. Bearian (talk) 15:17, 28 March 2011 (UTC) |
- The creator of the article had asked me to explain my decision to close Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Second Revolution flag (2nd nomination) as a delete. Although the article remains deleted, I've brought my own ruling up for review, noting that you did provide notice to Duchamp of both nominations for deletion, but that the renomination message may have been misunderstood. Sorry for any inconvenience on this. Mandsford 16:59, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
Black actors, etc.
Didn't realize. Of course, you're correct that Canadian Africans, Caribbean Africans and just plain Africans are involved in film. Maybe "of African heritage"? "Black" sounds old-fashioned, like "Negro." But I see your point and urge you to make it absolutely clear in the leads to each of the two articles. Cheers! --Tenebrae (talk) 21:43, 28 March 2011 (UTC)

I loved your use of bold-face text in this edit. WhatamIdoing (talk) 21:24, 1 April 2011 (UTC) |
I noticed your comment on the talk page of this article. A huge amount of academic bullshit has been written on the subject. I made a start on standard themes, dropped some of the "I don't like it" notices and submitted it to DYK. Should we remove the "needs authentication by an expert" warning? I hesitate to do it myself, because I don't know much about art, although I know what I like and like what I know. :~) Aymatth2 (talk) 01:04, 2 April 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will leave the warning for someone else to remove. It seems a bit meaningless given that almost every article could use attention from an expert, but I rather like the warning. Is this article really authentic? I am absolutely not an expert, just started fixing up the article as a challenge and summarized what I found in the first couple of pages of Google books that have preview on. Academic nitpicking! All art is authentic. Everything is authentic. Time for a glass of authentic wine to wash the dusty taste of this subject out of my mouth. Aymatth2 (talk) 01:36, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Amazing job. The article finally looks a little more legitimate. I know if I had made any of those changes myself I would have immediately been "reverted as vandal" by either Greg L or Epeefleche. Thanks for stepping up to the plate. Bulldog123 14:45, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

Editing my post
Hi, thanks for the politeness and I understand what you're driving at, but in the same article it does say to stop editing someone's post if they specifically request it. [This post intentionally left unsigned] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.136.136.101 (talk) 05:59, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
I'm sorry I believe I should've put a question in there. I'm new to editing any part of wikipedia and don't want to be regarded as a trouble maker, so I'm not reverting the edits currently because I'm unclear if I'm in the right. What do you think? {This post intentionally left unsigned] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.136.136.101 (talk) 06:16, 5 April 2011 (UTC)

DYK for James R. Whelan
On 7 April 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article James R. Whelan, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that former Washington Times editor James R. Whelan claims he was dismissed from the paper after control of it was "seized" by leaders of the Unification Church? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. Yes, I know I'm a bit late with this, but it would be very nice if we could have this nomination approved for next Sunday 24 April 2011. Please help, if you have a moment. Thank you, and happy Easter to you and your family!!! All the best. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 09:22, 22 April 2011 (UTC)
MOTD's State of Emergency + 1st of May's Motto
As you probably already know, we are facing some problems at MOTD. I am personally monitoring all the nominations on a daily basis and I'm finding very difficult to aprove the motto for the next day. The number of nominations has grown significantly, but even then it seems not enough. Please, if you have time, take a look at the nominations. And, if you like some of them but you think they are not good enough for being approved because of the set of links or and etcetera, please, try to improve them where it is possible. At this rate, I fear that we will see the end of the project. Thanks in advance.
I have also added a special nomination for this Sunday, 1st of May (International Workers' Day or May Day). Please, take a look at it if you can.
All the best. –pjoef (talk • contribs) 15:13, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

Okay, I'm here again to bother you (again and again... sorry). Things seem to go much better at MOTD, right now. THANK YOU!!!
The reason why I'm writing you is the following: next Sunday (8th of May) is Mother's Day. I know that it is celebrated on different days around the world, but I'd love if we could (and are able to) make our "very-little" contribution in honour of all the mothers in the world. For the upcoming 8th of May (Sunday) there is already a motto in schedule, but I think that we can move the motto approved for that day to another date and to put one about mothers in place of it. Here is my nomination.
Thank you in advance and all the best! –pjoef (talk • contribs) 12:48, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

- Well the official track listing was just released yesterday and that's the name of it on various hip hop sites including the track list on Amazon, so I figured I should change it to the album's title, but until yesterday the song's title has been "Sun COme Up" so idk.--User: 1Sire talk 4 August 2011 (UTC)
- Personally I doubt it but I guess we'd have to wait till the album comes out. But leaving it titled "Sun Come Up" is fine with me since it was released as "Sun Come Up" and can be found as a single on itunes and amazon with that title.--User: 1Sire talk 4 August 2011 (UTC)

Talk:The_Last_House_on_the_Left_(1972_film)#Requested_move
The discussion ran its course and there was no consensus to support a move. Nothing there really established that this film was the primary use which is what is really needed to move this article to the main name space. So I don't see a reason to reopen. I will note that when I closed I did say that if it could be established that the is a primary use for the title, then the discussion could be opened by any user. Just be aware that the 2009 film gets more page views, but it my opinion not enough to make that the primary use. You might want to discuss this on the wikiproject talk page to see if a case can be made. Right now I see that as a challenge. Vegaswikian (talk) 16:02, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- I'm saying that it may be best to determine that you can establish that there is a primary topic before you list it again. Asking on the project talk page is one way of doing that. If there is a clear and convincing case that we have a primary topic, then you can, and should, open a new discussion to present those facts. Opening a just closed discussion without a good case is generally frowned on. That it slipped you mind or that there where only two participants is not a reason to reopen a valid closed discussion. Vegaswikian (talk) 17:20, 10 August 2011 (UTC)
- What you need to remember is that a significant number of these requests are closed with only the request and no comments. Consensus is established based on the cases presented and not the number of opinions for or against. I can't prevent you from reopening this, but to do so you need a case that was not presented in the previous discussion. So far I don't see you having one. I'm not going to reopen the closed discussion because it's slipped my mind. Finally this was listed on Wikipedia:WikiProject Film/Article alerts, so project members were made aware of this discussion. Vegaswikian (talk) 17:31, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Timothy Dolan move
Google is not the decider of common usage. So given the fact that a simple read of various sources show that both are used, even in the same article, it is far from clear that there is a definitive common name for him in reliable sources. It was relisted to see if other editors can chime in with more information. Of course you have the option of providing support for the change from Google books and Google scholar or other sources. Your request for rollback
Hi Yaksar. After reviewing your request for rollback, I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:
- Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
- Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
- Rollback should never be used to edit war.
- If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
- Use common sense.
If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:New admin school/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Englewood cliffs
Ahh, I thought I had created it already ... then it disappeared. Do you have an opinion about whether populated areas should be formal or informal? Should we have Edison, New Jersey or Edison Township, New Jersey as the standard format for boroughs and townships? --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 20:25, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- Hmm, I can't say I've had enough experience with the issue yet to give an opinion on a general solution. For Edison in particular though, it seems fairly safe to exclude township from the title, just because it seems to be more commonly referred to as just "Edison" without much confusion. But I do see arguments for either way; the school district's site includes township, while www.edisonnj.org calls itself "The Official Web Site Of Edison, NJ". Personally in this specific case I see no issue with either, but it's probably for the best to leave it as is. I think? Haha, I'm clearly not 100% sure on this.--Yaksar (let's chat) 21:33, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- It would be nice if there was a script to automate an automatic redirect. You really don't care until you write an article and then get a redlink for the truncated version and wonder why there is no article for that town. Just as we did for townships when we standardized on "Town, State". --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
- There are plenty of smart people here, maybe one of them would know how to do that? I personally solve all my issues with computers by banging on the keyboard until it goes away, but there's probably a more elegant solution...--Yaksar (let's chat) 21:46, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

You really don't care until you write an article and then get a redlink for the truncated version and wonder why there is no article for that town. Just as we did for townships when we standardized on "Town, State". --Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) (talk) 21:42, 25 October 2011 (UTC)

DYK for Hugo Rogers
On 8 November 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Hugo Rogers, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Hugo Rogers gave no speeches in his campaign for Manhattan Borough President, instead leaving them to supporters and allies? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hugo Rogers. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Ron Dellums
Yaksar --- I added as much info as I could find on Dellums' presidential nominations (per your reward board request). From everything I read, he was very active in politics, but never very sure/committed about running for president. His nominations get a lot of tangential mentions in books on African-American politicians, but they focus more on his congressional politics and activism. Hope the info helped! Cheers. inre Rome Sweet Rome
I wish to propose an alternative. Per WP:NFF and WP:CLARIFY the article on a proposed film, one that has only just been optioned by Warner, is far too premature for inclusion. However, I gave thought to alternatives where something recieving enough coverage might still be discussed. Rather that have an considered to be one about a planned film, I took it upon myself to write a different version that deals with the short story that is receiving coverage, has received critical anaysis and commentary, and then simply included a short section dealing with the story's film prospects. Please visit User:MichaelQSchmidt/Rome, Sweet Rome (short story) and see how a change of focus addresses the NFF issue and yet still presents the project with a well-sourced encyclopdic topic. I think moving my article based upon the sources found, to moved mainspace as a redirect target, might save a lot of drama. Opinion? Schmidt, MICHAEL Q. 03:09, 29 November 2011 (UTC)
