Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Portuguese conquest of Goa, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page King Manuel of Portugal. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Hi. Could you provide the full reference for the Rodrigues Costa (2008) book/paper? I can't find it. Thanks. --regentspark (comment) 21:34, 30 April 2017 (UTC)

Hi Crenalator. Thank you for the thanks. That is a nice looking article, which I note that you made a lot of input to. Good work. You seem to have access to some good sources. It seemed to me to need a bit of a copy edit, so I just did it. Let me know if you think I overdid it anywhere. If you know of other articles in need of a copy edit, do let me know. Your recent editing history at Battle of Barawa shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly. Can you tell me where exactly on https://archive.org/stream/daasiadejoodeb21barr#page/32/mode/2up it says there were 24 dead and 60 wounded? I don't see it. Alexis Jazz (talk) 15:15, 25 April 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, most certainly. It says:
- This translates into something like:
- "And so many enemies perished there that they were uncountable, and ours up to forty two people, and wounded over sixty: these dead included up to eighteen on a boat, which capsized carrying spoil from the city to the carrack of Tristão da Cunha [...]".
- So about 42 people in total died, 24 in the action itself and 18 in an accident afterwards. Since the article is about the battle itself, I included only those who died in the action, but if you feel it's relevant to include the rest I will do so. Fernão Lopes
Hello Wareno, thanks for improving the Fernão Lopes article. I have one question. you write: "he set sail for Portugal, having been offered amnesty by King Manuel I" (1515). As far as I know he got a letter from João III in the 1520s, when he was on St Helena for years already. I couldn't find anything about en earlier offer of amnesty. Do you have a source for me? Greetings Maelcum (talk) 12:18, 30 January 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Maelcum:, I apologize for such a late reply, unfortunately I haven't been on wikipedia for a while. To clarify, Fernão Lopes got an amnesty from King Manuel, which is why he left India to Portugal in the first place, and stopping on St. Helena on the way, stayed there. Afterwards, King John III sent someone to bring him to Lisbon. The source where you can find the details is The Other Exhile: The Remarkable Story of Fernão Lopes, the Island of St. Helena and a Paradise Lost. Hope this helps. Best regards, Wareno (talk) 23:34, 28 February 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Wareno:, thank you for the information. I hate google books omitting pages. That makes no sense, to publish books with parts missing arbitrarily. Anyway, I heard about that book during my research. I found only scarce sources from Lopes' times (Correia's Lendas da India, De Barros' Decadas and the Comentarios de Albuquerque) and none of them mentions that earlier amnesty. I wonder how the author of that book from 2017 can tell the story so very detailed. I wonder what his sources were and I'm a bit skeptical about that book. Have you read it completely? Seems like I have to get it somewhere.
- I wrote a blog article about Lopes (in german), and i would like to write the german Wikipedia article about him, that's why I'm asking. It's hard to tell facts from mere stories, I'm not sure yet how to integrate that part of the story … anyway, thanks again. Regards Maelcum (talk) 02:18, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Dear @Maelcum: I do happen to own a copy of the book and I recommend it, because it seems to be the most detailed biography of Fernão Lopes available that I'm aware of, and it's a fascinating life story. Details about Lopes' life are scarce, but the author makes use of essential chronicles such as Lendas da Índia by Gaspar Correia, Décadas da Ásia by João de Barros and Diogo do Couto, História do Descobrimento e Conquista da Índia pelos Portugueses by Fernão Lopes de Castanheda, Crónica do Felicíssimo Rei Dom Manuel by Damião de Goes,Commentaries of the Great Afonso de Albuquerque by Brás de Albuquerque and documents in Portuguese archives to provide a more comprehensive narrative sorrounding his life. In case you cannot access the link (because Google's policy of omitting random parts of books is ridiculous), it says the following:
- What did it now matter if Albuquerque was dead? But in fact it did matter and greatly so: the new governor [Lopo Soares de Albergaria], who had been in India for three months already, carried with him a royal pardon for the Portuguese renegades, including Fernão Lopes. It was not a coincidence that the pardon immediately followed Albuquerque's death for, alive, he would probably have refused to implement it. But now, Lisbon announced, all had been forgotten and Lopes was free to return to Portugal to be reunited with the wife and son whom he had not seen for ten years.
- Further ahead:
- Albuquerque had died on 16 December, and once the pardon had been given the next departing ships needed to be away before the end of the favourable north-east monsoon winds, which was in March. Although there had been no provision from the garrison for his return to Portugal, as would normally have befitted a fidalgo, the sources tell us that the King covered the costs of any renegade who wished to return to Lisbon. Historical records show that there were only two ships of the 1515 Lisbon fleet making the return journey in 1516 on which Lopes could have sailed. The first was the Sancta Maria da Serra and the otther was the Sancto António. We know that the Sancta Maria da Serra left India within days of Albuquerque's death, certainly before the end of December, and it is unlikely that Lopes would have been pardoned and able to depart so rapidly. A more accurate supposition points to the Sancto António, which set sail in early 1516 and arrived in Lisbon in November that year
- Unfortunately, the author does not refer specifically where he got these particular pieces of information from. Ultimately though, my biggest criticism is that the author presupposes Lopes to have been a New-Christian even though he himself admits there's no evidence to support it, and I warn that it is an absurd claim because no Portuguese would have accepted to serve under his orders if he were. I hope this helps Wareno (talk) 18:12, 29 February 2020 (UTC)
- Thank you again, @Wareno! So the story goes on with another plot twist … that's why I love history, it's like an open world text adventure. :) I will order that book and see where it takes me. Best Regards Maelcum (talk) 15:46, 14 March 2020 (UTC)
- @Maelcum: It is indeed like an open world text adventure! The history of Portugal is full of such figures, like Fernão Mendes Pinto, António de Andrade, David Melgueiro and many others. Glad to have been of assistance. Wareno (talk) 19:28, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions, but in one of your recent edits to Battle of Diu, it appears that you have added original research, which is against Wikipedia's policies. Original research refers to material—such as facts, allegations, ideas, and personal experiences—for which no reliable, published sources exist; it also encompasses combining published sources in a way to imply something that none of them explicitly say. Please be prepared to cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. Thank you. Ixocactus (talk) 16:07, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Please stop your disruptive editing.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at Battle of Diu, you may be blocked from editing. Rui ''Gabriel'' Correia (talk) 12:42, 15 December 2021 (UTC)

Princess of Ara 16:32, 13 January 2022 (UTC)Reais to euros conversion
There is a letter, dated November 1512, by Afonso de Albuquerque in the Torre de Tombo archives. He states in this letter that he ordered Francisco Corvinel (the feitor in Goa) to pay Manuel de Lacerda (the capitão-mor of Goa) 6000 reais because of the marriage of Lacerda to a Goan Catholic woman. Could you please tell me how much 6000 reais would be in today's euros? Thanks in advance for your time and help. 2402:3A80:CA9:1395:79F0:EB12:EB34:531E (talk) 09:40, 23 January 2022 (UTC)

Portuguese India
Please don't move a page which you suspect might be disputed. Please use the talk page or "WP:Requested Move" to obtain consensus first. (Also don't mark it as a "minor" edit. A move is not 'minor'). And if your page move is reversed, then you know it is disputed, so don't try to move it again without consensus. Please take the discussion to the talk page. Walrasiad (talk) 04:21, 20 March 2022 (UTC)
- Please don't move the page again. This move has been disputed three times now. It needs to be discussed with other editors and consensus reached. Explanations in "edit summaries" is not the way discussion is supposed to be conducted. Nor is it by protests on my talk page. Please open a discussion on the Talk: Portuguese India talk page, where you can lay out your case more fully (and provide evidence if needed) and where other editors can participate and respond. You can also start a WP: Requested Move and solicit community opinion. I can help you with that procedure, if you don't know how. I am being rather indulgent because you are a new editor, but edit-warring is not the way to go. Walrasiad (talk) 18:11, 17 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for your "indulgence" but I've been on the English wiki for over six years. As I've repeated to you a few times already, you've provided no justification for your preference for the old name to which you insist on reverting the article back to. The situation was more than settled till you decided to turn a non-issue into a problem, so if you think you're helpful you're sorely deluded. Wareno (talk) 21:40, 17 April 2022 (UTC)

Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Battle of Sincouwaan. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively, you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. You have made disruptive rv in this article claiming pro-Chinese bias and removal of content, yet you are the one deleting direct citations without offering any semblance of discussion or sources of your own to the contrary. Please stop. Qiushufang (talk) 22:30, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
Your recent editing history at Battle of Sincouwaan shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war; that means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be, when you have seen that other editors disagree. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you are reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See the bold, revert, discuss cycle for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.
Being involved in an edit war can result in you being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you do not violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.
