Page suitability
{{helpme}} I've spent today creating my first page, but I'm getting a bit lost in the guidelines in determining if the page is suitable, both regards subject and content. Could you point me in the right direction? U+003F (talk) 19:56, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
- You can ask for some feedback for your article on whether it is suitable at WP:Requests for feedback. Chevymontecarlo 19:59, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

The article Sun4U has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Notability is fleeting, if at all
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Lateg (talk) 13:53, 21 August 2010 (UTC)

What do you mean that it doesn't make sense? There are no other Ohio townships named "Greene Township", but there are sixteen Ohio townships named "Green Township". Notice the presence of the "e" on the end of the Trumbull County township. Nyttend (talk) 02:48, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I appreciate that you're trying to catch some typos and so on at Lowestoft. I've moved away from editing the page itself just now - I felt I was getting nowhere very fast. I've worked up a version of it based on WP:UKCITIES - that isn't finished yet, but it getting there - over in a sandbox. I'd appreciate any comments you might have at this stage. Ta. List of Tranmere managers and template
Hi, thanks for the note. With regards sources for whether Moreton and T Jones were managers, I don't have any of the Tranmere books listed. I note the List directly references the Upton book and Soccerbase for going with Ridding only during this period. Soccerbase can be a useful source, but probably just took it's data directly from elsewhere, so may not be that reliable in deciding the issue. I would be inclined to place significant weight on what the club themselves say about their own managers. Also, as the club page was last updated in 2010, it could take on board additional information that may have come to light on who was really in charge at that time. Whilst we are talking about the wartime period mostly, football did continue and my underdstanding is that all teams had managers/coaches. Notwithstanding the above, I think it useful for the template to list Moreton and Jones as they are, because it does not mean a disputed name is left out of the template, if someone was quickly looking at it. The List already points out the discrepancy in sources, so maybe the Template could as well. I'd appreciate any further thoughts you have. Regards. Eldumpo (talk) 09:59, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Tranmere Rovers L.F.C.
Hi, thanks for the note and I'd already noticed that you'd made a nice job of improving the article. Sadly there is no goldmine of info that I know of. In fact, your work on the article probably makes you the world's foremost authority on Tranmere Rovers Ladies FC - congratulations! You should be able to find league tables for their Premier League campaigns here and here. Beyond that there's very little, except that I notice their old programmes sometimes crop up on ebay here. Good luck with the article and sorry I can't be more help. Clavdia chauchat (talk) 20:58, 4 November 2011 (UTC)
List of Tranmere Rovers F.C. managers
I wouldn't worry about the "actionable objections have not been resolved" criterion in this case. That would have applied if you'd completely ignored the reviewer, or disagreed with them on something that obviously needed fixing. You responded to them with some fixes and reasonable rebuttals where you disagreed. If the reviewer is on a break, that's about all you can do. Script edits to George Orwell
User:Sayerslle has fixed that page for now, but if a script from User:Cameltrader#Advisor.js is allowed to change a wikilink to Commons, the link doesn't work! It's partly my fault: Commons encourages uploaders to "use a meaningful title", but I could have used an underscore instead of a space. --Old Moonraker (talk) 08:40, 18 December 2011 (UTC)

Peer review limits changed
This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.
While we have been able to eventually review all PRs that remain on the backlog, something had to change. As a result of the discussion here, the consensus was that all users are now limited to one (1) open peer review request.
If you already have more than one open PR, that is OK in this transition period, but you cannot open any more until all your active PR requests have been closed. If you would like someone to close a PR for you, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Peer review. If you want to help with the backlog, please review an article whoe PR request is listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog/items. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 00:55, 3 February 2012 (UTC)

Tranmere players
I'm afraid I have nothing to add that hasn't already been brought up by TRM or Brianboulton. I'm a bit rusty on reviewing list-type articles really. Oldelpaso (talk) 20:10, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
- Well, at the moment its not so much a book as a slowly growing folder on my hard drive entitled "City Research". My aim is a book called something like "Manchester City FC: The Cup Finals". I've got a few cup final articles to GA (or in one case FA), but sometimes when researching them you uncover things of interest that you just can't put in due to original research concerns, or because it would be undue weight, or wouldn't fit the structure etc. Anyway, I'm starting with 1934 with the aim of writing a draft chapter. I could then show it to people who know rather more than me about how to attract a publisher. And if that fails, I've not done 1934 on Wikipedia yet so I could strip out the original research, condense it to something article-sized and use it here.
- I guess I just figure that I've used a lot of football literature to write articles in the past, and its about time I gave something back. After all, if no-one writes the books, we have nothing citable to use here. That and the fact that City's new found success might raise the meagre chances of finding an interested publisher. Replaceable fair use File:John Aldridge (Tranmere).jpg
Thanks for uploading File:John Aldridge (Tranmere).jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the media description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks, Modern.Jewelry.Historian (talk) 04:36, 24 November 2012 (UTC)

football articles
Thank you for adding in persondata, defaultsort and talk pages on the articles you created. Most people don't and it saves me ALOT of time.
Could you add listas value to the biography banner. It should be the same value as defaultsort. Also, WPBS doesn't go on talk pages with just two banners. I'll correct any new articles you just created, but if you could add them in the future. Thank you again for adding everything. Bgwhite (talk) 08:17, 4 November 2012 (UTC)
DYK for Scott Endersby
On 8 November 2012, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Scott Endersby, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Kettering Town goalkeeper Scott Endersby is credited with being the youngest footballer to play in the FA Cup proper at the age of 15 in 1977? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Scott Endersby. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Hi, I don't have a copy of the Frost book - well not yet. I've got a 2nd/3rd hand copy on order, should hopefully be arriving in 1-2 weeks, I'll let you know as soon as it does. If I forget, give me a nudge in about a fortnight? GiantSnowman 13:08, 15 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I see you created a large number of footballer stubs. Can I ask that in future you place Category:Living people or Category:Possibly living people as appropriate on them, so that changes to them may be more effectively monitored? Anyone we don't have a death date for should be in Living people - or Possibly living people if they are over 90 (and Category:Year of death missing if they would be over 115). I worry with a lot of these bio stubs that many of them could be dead and yet we'll never find out in a reliable source to that effect. Morwen (Talk) 16:33, 27 November 2012 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Ray Mathias.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Ray Mathias.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template. - On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. VernoWhitney (talk) 15:18, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
Problem with article name
Hi, I noticed you created Eric Morris (footballer born 1961). It looks to me from the reference given that he played in 1960/61 season. Am I misreading? If that is correct and the birthyear isn't known, I'm not sure what the disambiguation system would use instead. Footballer active 1961 maybe? --Qetuth (talk) 12:59, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
- You are right. I blindly took the article title from the list at User:North wales cestrian. Will move to Eric Morris (Chester City footballer). Thanks! U+003F? 14:06, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Jack Bamber
Hi, do you have a source for the date of death? The article now states both 1971 and 1973; both are unsourced. GiantSnowman 16:00, 19 December 2012 (UTC)
- That was sloppy of me, thanks. U+003F? 16:06, 19 December 2012 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of John McMahon (football coach)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on John McMahon (football coach) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Telfordbuck (talk) 19:21, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

- Dave, you didn't put in a request for help, you changed the article with this edit. Controversial statements like that need to be backed up by reliable sources. A forum discussion typically wouldn't count as reliable, rather you could use official websites, books about the club, or newspapers, for example. U+003F? 15:27, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

Hallo, Don't forget that if you create an article with a disambiguated title like this it's useful to add a link from the main title - I've added a hatnote at A Start in Life, sometimes it's a case of adding to a disambiguation page. But perhaps you had it in mind but just hadn't got round to it yet - apologies if so! Thanks. PamD 07:57, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). A formula for the calculation of the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Orphaned non-free image File:Women (Sebastian novel).jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Women (Sebastian novel).jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 02:39, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use File:Richard Asquith.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Richard Asquith.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 14:21, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- @Whpq: Yes you are right. All my previous portrait uploads have been of dead people, where no such problem exists. Is it possible to not dispute deletion of the picture, and agree to its immediate removal? U003F? 14:27, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- I will get in touch with the person themselves for a free alternative too, but I've found negotiating that typically takes longer than seven days. U003F? 14:35, 16 July 2020 (UTC)
- You can tag it {{db-author}} to delete it now. -- Whpq (talk) 15:12, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Honour (book)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Honour (book) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. I have sent you a note about a page you started
Hello, U003F
Thank you for creating Honour (book).
User:Doomsdayer520, while examining this page as a part of our page curation process, had the following comments:
Thank you for your new article on the book "Honour" by Elif Shafak, but please consider enhancing the article so it does more than simply announce the book's existence. People can see that kind of basic announcement anywhere. Wikipedia allows the addition of text from professional reviews and analysis by journalists, and there are several of those types of sources available for this book.
To reply, leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Doomsdayer520}}

The file File:Speyside Way logo.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Logo of this organisation was replaced in 2021, and the new non-free logo image uploaded. See File:Speyside Way logo 2021 onwards.jpg. As this image is now no longer relevant under non-free use, it would seem appropriate to delete it.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Nick Moyes (talk) 13:27, 24 November 2021 (UTC)

Dervla Murphy books
Yes she was a wonderful writer and I have all her books.
But there are problems with the articles you are creating.
We really don't need the whole publication history. Compare a Featured Article like Gather Together in My Name. First edition info, and perhaps a mention of latest Ed with isbn, is enough unless there is something unusual to comment on. If mentioning any edition, give its Isbn using {{Isbn}}: that then becomes a link to all sorts of records. BL cat link is useful for books which don't have an isbn or sbn.
If you want to include a review quote from jacket, you could say "The Irish Times described it as "xxxx ....", and as reference put "Back cover of 19nn paperback ed" or whatever, if you can't find a real source. Not great, but better than your current technique. Quotes only go in references to show exactly how the ref supports the content and especially if the source is hard to access.
It would be nice to have an article on each of her books, not least because it's the only way to include the cover image, but unless you can source better coverage, not just quotes on the jacket, these articles seem unlikely to survive. PamD 05:55, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- This looks a useful source of reviews, articles etc. PamD 07:26, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks @PamD: I agree that my publication history was very boring; I was drawn in by the ease with which that info can be found. Is this better? I'm certain that at least the majority of Murphy's books are notable enough to warrant their own article; hopefully I can get the stubs to a level where their notability is clear, and there's enough material linked to allow others to flesh them out. U003F? 08:26, 8 June 2022 (UTC)
- Much more interesting - I like the "Jock" element. Have tweaked slightly. Good luck with the project. PamD 08:38, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Wheels Within Wheels
I think the title should be with cap "W" for "Within", per this as it's not less than 5 letters. I noticed your links in the Dervla Murphy article, which were circular links at the time, and the file for the cover, so I created a little stub for the book so that no-one "helpfully" undoes the circular redirects or removes the hatnote, etc. Feel free to overwrite with more of an article, of course: this is just a holding stub. Must get around to re-reading the book! PamD 18:10, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
- Brill, thanks @PamD: Yes, I've done things upside-down this time, doing the fiddly bits around the article, before making the article itself. Let's see how it goes. U003F? 19:08, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
License tagging for File:Gullregn.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Gullregn.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.
To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 10:30, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Dervla Murphy books (again!)
Hiya. Without sources, these articles are going to get turned back into redirects or, worse, nominated for deletion. You need two or more published reviews as references for each book to prove notability - to pass WP:GNG and WP:NBOOK. Stubs sourced to a British Library entry are unlikely to survive for long! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 13:09, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking the time to add the reviews. Onel5969 TT me 14:54, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
Please remember to proof-read your text so that it makes sense, not missing a word or two ("like" or "such as") in "how tough conditions were in places Lima"; also, please don't use informal forms like "she'd", and if you are going to use an apostrophe, remember to use a straight one rather than the curly/slanted variety. Thanks. PamD 18:05, 13 October 2022 (UTC)

An article you recently created, Visiting Rwanda, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Citation details
Hi, thanks for creating all these articles for notable travel books. When using the {{cite news}} template, please do try and fill in as many of the basic parameters as you can (namely the title, work, date, author, page). I noticed you often only provide a generic title (not the actual title of the cited newspaper article), the newspaper and a page number, such as in Tales from Two Cities, Eight Feet in the Andes, Cameroon with Egbert. This makes it difficult for readers to verify the offline sources. At the very least, adding the date of the publication (not just year as these newspapers are published on a frequent basis) would make it much easier.
I've already filled in the citation details in the articles I mentioned above ([1][2][3] ), but do take note when sourcing future articles. Regards. Bennv123 (talk) 15:33, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for all your great work Bennv123. How did you find the exact details for those reviews? I went via Wikipedia Library which, in some cases, only gave partial info as to the reference. For the observer articles, for example, it only gave year and page, which is not super-helpful. U003F? 16:17, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, I found these newspaper articles through Newspapers.com, which is available via the Wikipedia Library. However, you need to specifically apply for access to it (you can find it in the "Available Collections" section on TWL). Otherwise if you're interested, I will be happy to email you the Newspapers reviews for these books that I've found on Newspapers.com. Bennv123 (talk) 16:30, 13 October 2022 (UTC)
