burnside west christchurch university cricket club
[edit]Hi,
Thanks for all your edits on the clubs Wikipedia page. I wonder if you would be able to help with the formatting as I don't know how to do this.
We have our AGM tomorrow, and I want to be able to update the current office holders.
Thanks Shaneyoung72 (talk) 10:15, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
- Hi. The best thing, unless you want to do something particularly fancy, would just be the write it and, preferably, add some kind of link to a press report and then if necessary I can come along and tweak it as appropriate. If you do want to do something fancy then can you explain what you want to do!
- Perhaps more importantly, is what you want to add actually notable? There's a list of Presidents on the page: OK, I think that's just about notable - but only just. Would adding one year office holders be sensible? To start with, it gets out of date really quite quickly and then stuff lurks that's hideously out of date (I deleted a squad from a team page the other day that had last been updated in 2015, for example). Is it going to last if it gets added now? Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:17, 18 September 2024 (UTC)
Arthur Hawthorne must be different person
[edit]Hello.Well done with pushing on with the numerous players to improve.
Unfortunately, a problem has arisen with the Arthur Hawthorne entry. The information for that Wellington player will need to be edited, as he cannot be the person born in Victoria in 1873. That Arthur Hawthorne died in Victoria in 1898. Victorian BDMs details are - birth cert 11440/1873 and death cert 10898/1898. Both certificates list parents as John Michie Hawthorne and Sarah Anne (nee Dean). I'm sending g this information to staff at Cricket Archive and asking them to edit player entry accordingly. - Thanks. I imagine the CA information came from Tony McCarron's list originally fwiw. I've amended the article with a note pointing out the problem – I don't know if Sammyrice might be able to add anything else?
- Another possibly Australian born one is Charles Kreeft. That might be worth a quick check to make sure it's the same person if you get the chance. Blue Square Thing (talk) 14:21, 12 October 2024 (UTC)
- A good discovery to correct that mistake on CricketArchive. But I can't find anything about him that is worth including, on Papers Past or Ancestry. One of many mystery cricketers. Sammyrice (talk) 05:29, 13 October 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking. Iirc there's at least one other notable person with the same name at the same time isn't there? Which makes things much trickier. Blue Square Thing (talk) 07:58, 14 October 2024 (UTC)

Charles Kreeft
[edit]The birth and death information for Charles Kreeft as shown on his article and CricketArchive appears to be correct.
Certainly worth looking back at some of these people as more and more "official" BDM sites become searchable. I've found a number of VFL/AFL players with wrong details through checking such facilities.
