Champion of the Colony / Champion Players.
[edit]Dear Ross,
Thank you for your message. It is good to get the opportunity to contact you.
I am well aware of the controversy caused by Graeme Atkinson. I am about to remove the early references to Tom Wills as a Champion Player.
However, I would defend the continuance of the Chapion of the Colony on this page. I am sure that you realise that most historians would support this.
Please do not hesitate to continue this discussion.
Regards,
(Albert Isaacs). —Preceding unsigned comment added by Albert Isaacs (talk • contribs) 02:35, 15 July 2009 (UTC)
Dear Ross,
I note your recent message left for me. Thank you.
You are well aware of the intense discussion on the topic of "Champion of the Colony" which appears on the discussion page of the Wikipedia site of the same name. I note your contributions to this discussion, along with those from many others who disagree with you. I believe that this particular discussion page is the correct place for this debate but not the 1859-1900 History.
The comments that are expressed on the 1859-1900 history are endorsed by many of those who have contributed to the Champion of the Colony debate. Of course, I respect your right to have a different opinion and know that we will both be respectful toward each other even though we agree to disagree on this one point.
Regards, Albert Isaacs. 58.110.106.123 (talk) 08:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Do you have a source for your claim though? If you're going to dispute official AFL publications, then you have to at least provide an equal or better source too. That's the issue here. Boomtish (talk) 09:50, 22 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks
[edit]I had actually started typing my Coulthard question up here, being well aware of your resources, and half way through had second thoughts and posted it to WT:AFL thinking I'd cast a wider net! Thanks again mate. –Moondyne 14:18, 5 October 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Dear Ross,
Thanks for the message. It looks a good suggestion to me we can alter the Peter Crimmins Medal section, by adding the several variations that the award might have gone through. If you agree please go ahead and edit the section.

Hello. I noticed that you made a change to the Wally Hammond article about the record number of catches in a season. In the edit summary, you gave what I assume to be the catch missing from Wisden. Just so I can add a note, where does this information come from? Cheers. --Sarastro1 (talk) 10:01, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

- Thanks. I've obviously got the details a bit fuzzy after 36 years, but I shall enjoy revisiting... if I get a copy of the book! You're lucky having easy access: the Murdoch press like to take as much money as they can from people in the UK. Johnlp (talk) 15:13, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

Your great site on Tasmanian football and the like
[edit]Hey there. For the Laurie Nash article I referenced your website for the number of games he played in Tasmania but I see that the link is now dead. As I am hoping to make Nash a featured article I was wondering if you had the site elsewhere or where I could source a reference for Nash's Tasmanian games? Cheers --Roisterer (talk) 09:02, 30 May 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. I've added your new site to my favourites list as well. Cheers. --Roisterer (talk) 13:12, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Australian football
[edit]Australian football must use lower case as it is not a proper noun. This is also standard wikipedia formatting. Plus this link indicates both 'Australian Football' and 'Australian football' are both acceptable and the text below comes from that site (which includes both upper and lower case variants underlined):
Whether it is called Australian Football, Australian Rules Football, "Aussie Rules", the VFL, the AFL, Australia's only indigenous football code is officially entitled 'Australian football'. It has never been officially referred to as 'Australian rules football'. Such terminology has only ever appeared in the form of football journalism, coined by different writers.

Citations
[edit]G'day Ross, When you find "new old" information, can you please try to put the citation in the article, not just in the edit summary, such as this edit. As the 35 and 36 B&F winners aren't listed in the "official" AFL histories, I'd assume that they also aren't listed in the only source mentioned in the article. The argus citation should therefore be placed in the table, next to the new info. Nice find, by the way. Cheers, The-Pope (talk) 00:37, 10 October 2010 (UTC)
New dees logo
[edit]Hi, just saw this edit and I had seen you remove it before. Anyway, I was just wondering, if it's not their official logo yet, why is it used on the afl.com.au page and the melbournefc.com.au page? Not doubting you, I'm simply curious :) Cheers, Jenks24 (talk) 10:51, 11 November 2010 (UTC)
- Ah ok, thanks for the info and it does seem like the AFL and Melbourne have jumped the gun. I also noticed a certain "Mr Ross Smith" seemed to be the opposition. Couldn't possibly be you could it? :) Jenks24 (talk) 10:05, 12 November 2010 (UTC)
Tasmanian FOOTBALL League
[edit]TSL causes confusion with soccer. Please leave me reversions alone. The only time to use "State League" is to use the full promotional name "Wrest Point State League", which we can't do here because that's advertising. It must stay TFL because that is the name the fans know it as according to an official of AFL Tasmania. Promotional names don't count. If you disagree please discuss it on the TFL talk page for a consensus. Footy Freak7 (talk) 22:15, 6 February 2011 (UTC)

Western Bulldogs logo
[edit]Please, before reverting an edit, check at the sources to determine if the logo "is still approved" or not, as you stated. The new Western Bulldogs logo is in use at official WB website and Facebook page. If you disagree with this, the issue could be discussed at the WB talk page, but please don't revert it again. Lists of English cricketers
[edit]Hi. Thanks for adding links in to the Lists of English cricketers from the mid-19th century. I've worked on List of English cricketers (1841–1850) over the last week or so and now have it set up as a tabular format to allow short bios to be added in. Eventually I might decide to work on the other lists from 1851 onward - perhaps combining them in some way. If I do I'll probably use the same sort of format - it seems to have worked for the previous lists in the series OK.
If the names of as many of these chaps as possible are already there in the article it will make the job so much easier to do - so thanks for adding those that you have and, well, if you can add anymore then that'd be appreciated!
I should imagine quite a lot played prior to 1851 so the names will already have been tracked down for those guys btw. Well, in most cases: there may be a few rogue ones lurking somewhere or other that are still red links in the 41-50 list. Thanks again... Blue Square Thing (talk) 22:06, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

For clubs with a large number of major trophies, it may be appropriate to omit second places.) If this is different to the "previous developed consensus" you mention, perhaps you could guide me to the appropriate discussion of six years or so ago.
