Previous Years

Here's the format for previous years: 2008 (MMVIII) was a leap year starting on tuesday of the Gregorian calendar. We use was for pervious years, is for ONLY the current year. We'll change "is" to "was" for the 2009 article once the clock strikes 2010 in the time zones Homerjay90 (talk) 02:03, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Read this link: WT:YEARS. It claims it makes more sense if you use "was" for previous years, "is" for the current year, and "will be" for future years. Homerjay90 (talk) 02:18, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

The status of the years (leap or common) does not change based on the time. Use of the word was implies that it does. If it is a common year it is always a common year. It would help if you would point me to a specific section in the article you referred to. ttonyb (talk) 02:29, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your kind message regarding the Speedy Deletion of my article "Justin St. Vincent". Perhaps it is possible to contest this deletion as I am the author and copyright owner of the brief biography:

Am looking forward to reading your reply when available. Thanks for all in advance.

Justin, thanks for the message and sorry I have not gotten back to you sooner. There are a couple of ways to avoid copyright issues. Since you are the owner of the material you can donate the material for use in Wikipedia or you can rewrite the material so it does not resemble the original text. Take a look at the section for more information on donating the material to Wikipedia. Sorry for the frustration, but Wikipedia takes all copyright issues very seriously. Please let me know if you have any questions or if I can be if any help. ttonyb (talk) 05:57, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

Previous Years

Please read WT:YEARS, and it tells you to use "was" instead of "is" for previous years.

Also, don't add the extra information about the year for previous years, just the current year —Preceding unsigned comment added by Homerjay90 (talkcontribs) 16:45, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Van?

Excuse me but how is this reverting vandalism? Toddst1 (talk) 19:37, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

The user continues to display disregard for format in WP:RY. This format has been pointed out to him by numerous users at various times on the page and on WP:RY, yet he continues to change the article. If this were only one edit by the individual, then I would agree that it would not vandalism. ttonyb (talk) 19:43, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
As I wrote this he was again making changes to the page. <sigh> ttonyb (talk) 19:45, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
That's not WP:VAN. Toddst1 (talk) 22:11, 1 January 2010 (UTC)
I'll review the section. There is probably a point when good faith edits repeatedly reversed by multiple editors become vandalism. That point may be after numerous editors have discussed the inappropriateness of the edits and have pointed out the edits are disruptive. Thanks and I hope you new year is filled with joy and wonderful events. ttonyb (talk) 22:44, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Trakyng Games Problem

Hello, can you resolve my problem?, because i have "Criteria for speedy deletion", and don't know nothing about that. I'm just reading it but... really is only a company of Dominican Republic and i'm the owner!. Wow.. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trakyng (talkcontribs) 07:03, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

The issue is that company fails to meet the Wikipedia criteria for inclusion. Basically, the article fails to meet the criteria for notability. Take a look at the section and let me know if you have any questions. ttonyb (talk) 07:05, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Independent sales organization

Hello Ttonyb1. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Independent sales organization, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: It was only the first sentence, as far as I can see. I've rewritten it. . Thank you. GedUK  10:37, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Actually everything except the first sentence was taken from [1]. ttonyb (talk) 15:17, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Tagging of Nakatomi Towers

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Nakatomi Towers. I do not think that Nakatomi Towers fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because The article makes an assertion of notability, which invalidates the claim of A7. If you think the claim is insufficient to meet WP:BAND, then take it to WP:AFD. I request that you consider not re-tagging Nakatomi Towers for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. You are, of course, free to tag the article with {{prod}} or nominate it at WP:AFD. Shirik (Questions or Comments?) 18:19, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

The article has been tagged for AfD. ttonyb (talk) 18:21, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

Tagging of Bettina_Varde

About my "Bettina Varde"´s article. This is an article about argentinian actress Bettina Varde. I wrote the original article in spanish with data and pictures given to me by Mrs.Varde herself. There are articles about american actors and actresses in spanish and english. Also it´s logic to write an article about spanishspeaker actors, actresses, novelists, politicians, etcetera in both languages, spanish and english. If an american movie or american performer has the right to got an article in two languages, latin people has the same. Mrs. Barde is known in Argentina and some other countries. She was interviewed by Playboy Magazine argentinian edition. Also was a centerfold in other issue. If wikipedia lets pages about "hollywood stars" in spanish. Why people born outside englishspeaker countries are forbbiden in english wiki? Is that not a discrimination? Excuse me if you don´t understand my poor english. I am trying to do my best. Best regards. Rene--Rcbatman (talk) 18:38, 3 January 2010 (UT

I have no personal conection with Mrs. Varde. I just contact her to ask her a few pictures and biographycal data confirmation. I never saw Mrs. Varde in person despite we live in the same country. Rene --Rcbatman (talk) 18:40, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
This page may meet Wikipedia’s criteria for speedy deletion as an article about a real person that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. Tony, how can I explain the significance of my article? An actor who is important in some countries could be not in other. For example: an article about Diego Maradona... this person is important around the world to the football viewers. So, despite I am argentinian like this guy, from my point of view is nothing.
Maradona is a bad person, a bully, a disgrace for my society. Is the kind of person to forget! Probably you don't know Mrs. Varde, but she is very known in South America. So, I not include the argentinian Playboy Magazine cover of her, neither the centerfold. It´s not the purpose of my article to show her as a playmate. By these days she is working for benefit of Orphans and houses for minors without parents. Have a nice day and year 2010! --Rcbatman (talk) 19:30, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
I will not address the ridicules claims of discrimination other than to say there is no discrimination in requiring articles to meet Wikipedia criteria for notability. In addition, I have no idea about what you are getting at concerning Maradona.
The bottom line is the individual in the article appears to fail the criteria in WP:BIO. You have not provided any valid references for the article and nothing in the article appears to make this individual notable. ttonyb (talk) 00:32, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

can you help me?

Can you tell me how can I prove that the object of my article is "notable" ? The point is: Why Maradona is "notable" and Mrs. Varde is not ?(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maradona) Maradona is not an artist. Not a doctor, a writer, or a politician. I use it like an example. Why Maradona is "notable" ? He is not an important person. It´s only a guy who shoot a ball. Mrs. Varde is conected to clasic dance and Colon Theatre. Can you help me how can I prove than an artist is notable ? At last is more important than a football player. Best regards. Rcbatman (talk) 03:39, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

To prove notability you need to meet the criteria in WP:ENT using reliable resources that support the criteria. The Maradona article is supported by reliable resources and therefore the article subject is considered notable.
I suggest you take a look at the welcome message on your talk page and review the links in the message. Specifically, the first three:

I add a {{hangon}} tag to Rotary direct lift devices but I realize now that at this point I only need the Talk page. There is an {{underconstruction}} template I will add that after the page has some content. Please dont delete the talk page. Thank you. J8079s (talk) 07:20, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

WP:RY Format

The first sentence of the WP:RY current year format, I "stole" from the 2005 article from that year. Here's what the 2005 article looked like then: 2005 is a common year starting on Saturday of the Gregorian calendar and is the current year. Continental738 (talk) 18:58, 5 January 2010 (UTC)

Can you do me a favor: change the intro in the 2012 article to the WP:RY format, but don't change "will be" to "is" as 2012 is a future year. Thanks Continental738 (talk) 23:34, 5 January 2010 (UTC)
Why? ttonyb (talk) 16:13, 6 January 2010 (UTC)
2012 is only 2 years from now. Continental738 (talk) 21:01, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry

Sorry about that, I was just making the Blake K. speedy deletion tags

I see that you put a speedy deletion tag on many articles. Any help on why or improving would seem to be a better first step. But, if that's what you do, guess I and others will learn some other way. --MichMike (talk) 05:07, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the message. The tag that I placed on the article had specifics about what was missing and what was needed to meet the criteria for inclusion. In addition I also left you a Welcome message in your talk page with a number of links that can help you create an article in Wikipedia. If you have any questions or if you need help in preparing your article User:MichMike/WoodHaven Log & Lumber for transfer to the mainspace, please let me know. My best to you... ttonyb (talk) 16:12, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Altered speedy deletion rationale: Yellowstone Republic

Hello Ttonyb1. I am just letting you know that I deleted Yellowstone Republic, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, under a different criterion from the one you provided, which doesn't fit the page in question. Thank you. GedUK  09:49, 7 January 2010 (UTC)

Do you have an account on Fluther? You seem to have taken quite a big interest in the article lately. Anyway, I'm active on that site but haven't yet decided whether to reveal my Fluthername on WP. --Let Us Update Special:Ancientpages. 05:56, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Nope, no account. It is just one of the articles I picked to edit tonight. ttonyb (talk) 06:00, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Just wanted to say thanks for your attention to the Fluther page. With your help it'll be a respectable entry soon. 169.234.124.26 (talk) 07:24, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Vandalism

Why don't you bother to look at my edits before citing vandalism. All of them have been constructive and have simply involved adding the most appropriate sources.--99.231.163.135 (talk) 18:41, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, I mistakenly added the warning to your page and then thought I had removed it. Not sure what happened, but I have removed it for sure this time. ttonyb (talk) 18:44, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the clarification, sorry for the misunderstanding. --99.231.163.135 (talk) 18:50, 8 January 2010 (UTC)

:Re-anon vote

OK, I didn't realize it could be tagged. Since that edit was the only edit that IP Address made, I assumed vandal, i.e. vote stacking.--Abebenjoe (talk) 15:35, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

I have to agree with you that it probably is stacking, but the reviewing admin will most likely ignore the "vote" since it does not provide any support or reasoning. The SPA tag should also help ID an issue. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 15:38, 9 January 2010 (UTC)

Article on Dnata Travel Services

Hey how's it going?

Shouldn't the fact that this division won Middle East's Leading Travel Management Company in the world travel awards make it noteworthy? Also, I am about to add that Gulf Ventures also won UAE's Leading Destination Management Company in the World Travel Awards. Both accolades zoom in specifically on Dnata Travel Services and not Dnata which is an umbrella organization that's part of the emirates group.

See, Dnata has its own page and Dnata is just the umbrella corporation of all these other divisions, core of which is Dnata Travel Services.

It is perhaps how I wrote the article...?

So. I've added some more data in there that should make it relevant/significant.

1. DTS is the major stockholder in Hogg Robinson's Group which incidentally has its own wiki site much similar to this one. 2. DTS won all those awards. And that's no small award. Although I noticed that "world travel awards" doesn't have a wiki to it, it IS in fact pretty prestigious and winning there is widely publicized. It's like the oscars of the travel industry. Reijiro (talk) 19:52, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

I really cannot find what is wrong with the page entry for Peredy. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong in this? He is a recording artist with Acoustic/Rock/Dance club music. None of his music even has foul language. I have seen bands and artists on this site with much worse content in what they do. Please let me know. I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Christopher Weaver ‎. I do not think that Christopher Weaver ‎ fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because "spearheaded the development of the first physics engine for realtime sports simulation" is a claim of significance. It might be argued that this person isn't notable, but any such argument would need to be made at AfD IMO.. I request that you consider not re-tagging Christopher Weaver ‎ for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 08:21, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello Ttonyb1. Heiner Dreismann

I am trying to follow the rules by wikipedia which states if I am the editor I jus need to leave the {[hangon]}, which I am. You are constantly putting it back into deletion. I don't understand why. I rewrote the article, and you couldnt of had time to reread it and check any issues as fast as you are trying to delete me already. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mehne001 (talkcontribs) 00:06, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Please leave the CSD tag on the article. The article is not long enough to take more than few moments to review and I am able to look at the specific differences. Adding a reference to the article pointing to the source does not remove the copy violation. Additionally, a slight reformulation is not enough to remove the issue. ttonyb (talk) 00:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
I appreciate your quick response however I cannot change facts about Dr. Dreismann's carreer and experience just because another online source mentions them. This is credible and truthful information, and just because we have overlapping business terms it shouldn't have to qualify as copyright infringement. Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mehne001 (talkcontribs) 00:15, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
You can rewrite them. Truth is not a valid defense against copyright violations. The article violates Wikipedia guidelines and U.S. copyright laws. ttonyb (talk) 00:19, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

That's probably best. Ramirez is a Republican primary candidate for the U.S. Senate, which may make him notable. At minimum, I think that makes him "important", which is why I declined the speedy. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 23:43, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

When I just went through the contributions of Tisdalea9 to remove the hoax information she placed in Wikipedia, following WP:Articles for deletion/Jordan Kanesha Palmer, I noticed that you already diligently removed all of it in the wake of WP:Articles for deletion/Jordan Palmer (actress) – well done, thanks!

Amalthea, thank you very much for the Barnstar. I appreciate the recognition and am humbled by your kindness. My best to you and it is good to see you. ttonyb (talk) 01:09, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I have probably violated Wikipedia's rules, but I wanted to elaborate on the background of Tim Atack who provided the music for the Ricky Gervais film, the Invention of lying. My wiki skills are not very good. Perhaps the article could be suitably edited just to say that Mr Tim Atack grew up in Pontefract and attended the King's School Pontefract. I also attended the King's School Pontefract and we don't get many people with a claim to fame. What do you think ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by KavJack (talkcontribs) 05:26, 17 January 2010 (UTC) KavJack (talk) 05:29, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

I see a couple of issues with the article. The first and obvious issue is the article is a copy of an existing document, hence, the Copyvio CSD tag. The second is a potential lack of notability. I am not sure that Atack is notably enough to warrant an article in Wikipedia. Take a look at the criteria for notability and let me know if you have any questions. ttonyb (talk)

Note the discussion and have a lovely day :D Timeshift (talk) 06:02, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I left a comment on the page. ttonyb (talk) 06:16, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I suggest that you familiarise yourself with Wikipedia's policies on speedy deletion before you nominate any further articles for deletion. Tammy Jennings - whether or not that you feel the article is notable or not - quite clearly indicates why its subject is significant; indeed, the policy explicitly states "The criterion does not apply to any article that makes any credible claim of significance or importance even if the claim is not supported by a reliable source." As such, your nomination was plainly in violation of the policy, and I've declined it accordingly; don't do it again. Rebecca (talk) 06:18, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
The same also applies to Heat (fragrance), to which you could not possibly apply the cited criteria if you had actually read it. Please stop and read the appropriate policies before doing any further tagging. Rebecca (talk) 06:27, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
Next time I'll just go straight to the AfD. BTW - You might want to consider WP:GFE before leaving another message in my page or at least consider adding "please" to comments like "don't do it again." My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 06:30, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't questioning your good faith - I was pointing out that you were acting in patent violation of a policy that you either a) hadn't read, or b) were ignoring (I assume the former). The appropriate course is indeed to go to an AfD where a consensus can be ascertained; I'm glad that you intend doing this in future. Rebecca (talk) 06:32, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
You may want to note that in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian politics a Sysop agreed with my assessment of the article failing an A7-BIO deletion. Perhaps you should also consider rereading the criteria you pointed me to. I am not sure why you stated, "Unfortunately for you..." in your message to me in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian politics, but it implies you believe I am personally invested in the article's removal. If this is the case, you are misinformed. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 06:58, 17 January 2010 (UTC)
I am in agreement with ttonyb on this one, but I'd note my admin status has no real bearing, positive or negative, on my views or their weight in the community - besides Rebecca is a former arbitrator. It's an ideas market where we're all free to state our opinions. Thanks too for your good faith in dealing with us - I know it hasn't been easy. :) Orderinchaos 10:41, 17 January 2010 (UTC)

2001 Article

I don't see how my edits classify as vandalism. I think that I was actually improving the article. I don't think that you looked very closely at my edits. I think that my first edit that I made on the page today was inappropriate, but I was going to immediately revise that edit. Unfortunately, you labeled my edits as vandalism. Adding some of the victims and a few more high-level September 11 hijackers would be more appropriate. Zipotur (talk) 18:32 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your message. Simply because after I reversed the initial edits and tagged it in the edit summary as not meeting the requirements of WP:RY, you continued to make the same edits. If you had stopped and asked me why they were reversed or added the discussion to the talk page, I would not have tagged the subsequent edits as vandalism. Your first edit was not marked as vandalism only subsequent ones after being advised they were not in accordance with WP:RY. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 19:09, 18 January 2010 (UTC)

Richmond police

Hey I want an article for the Richmond police department. The article I created is no different than any other police article out there. I cited everything, and I revised many things. How do you want me to create the page without everything being deleted off of it? Also, the 'Fallen Officer' section was made entirely by me, the 'See Also' section was made entirely by me, and you also deleted a category. I know for a fact those were not copyrighted, so please put those back. So I hope to hear back soon and please answer my question. Thank You. (talk) 00:08, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

I added back the sections I removed in error; however, the rest of the article I removed appears to be taken from the police site. ttonyb (talk) 00:14, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Alright thanks. I will revise everything I originally wrote in the article and write them all myself. I will get them back into wikipedia standards and they will not be against any copy write laws. (talk) 00:19, 19 January 2010 (UTC)
Great news and good luck. I know how difficult it is to have to rewrite existing material, but know it is appreciated. Thanks again. ttonyb (talk) 00:30, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Tagging of The Maids of Honor (Album)

Hi there - I just removed your speedy deletion tag of The Maids of Honor (Album) because I think it was placed in error. The tag was applied under WP:CSD#A9. A9 - for musical recordings - requires that two criteria both be satisfied: (1) does not indicate why its subject is important or significant; and (2) where the artist's article does not exist. Here, the artist has an article: Maids of Honor (band) so A9 was not satisfied. --Mkativerata (talk) 19:56, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks, I could not find the link to the band. The original link was to a non-related article. Thanks for catching this. ttonyb (talk) 19:58, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Speedy Deletion of Gia Johnson

You may not be aware that I am a member of Wikipedia's fashion portal. I only write articles about fashion models that are notable. Due to Gia Johnson's extensive media coverage in the past couple of months, I felt it necessary to write a Wikipedia article about the top fashion model. Her notability shouldn't be challenged because because she is regularly seen in Vogue and Elle and is with numerous top flight agencies. She has been featured in numerous high profile ads and editorials (see links below).

Last time I checked, top fashion agencies, The Daily Mail, The Telegraph, IMDB, and FMD were reliable sources. Please take a look at the external links and sources before you nominate something for deletion. Consequently, I am removing the nomination because I feel this article is notable and sufficiently sourced. If you feel the need to nominate this article again, please feel free to do so as long as you explain why the article violates CSD A7.

Thanks,Sid1977 (talk) 05:24, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Sid1977, I am not really sure you are right. Based on WP:ENT I believe the CSD was correctly applied, but I am not married to seeing it deleted (there is also probably room for some interpretation of WP:ENT) and therefore will defer to your opinion. My best to you... ttonyb (talk) 05:36, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Why I shoud recreate deleated article titled, NEW RESEARCH INDICATES ROBERT DE SAINTCLAIR AND ELEANOR DE DRUEX MAY BE THE FOUNDERS OF THE SINCLAIRS OF SCOTLAND

Dear Ttonyb1:

Thank you for enlightening me about "shouting"; I didn't know that meant using capital letters. I already used them on the talk page because I hadn't read your note, but I won't use them again. This is my first attempt at writing an article for Wikipedia and I am a novice. I didn't know an article had to be in perfect condition to include it on Wikipedia; I thought from what I read that I could work on it for a while to get it just right. This whole Wikipedia unpleasant experience is a "first time" for me.

Here are my concerns:

1. I don't understand why inicially I was given 7 days and my article wasn't marked for "speedy delition." Then all of a sudden it was suddenly deleated using some clause that I never heard of. It's not consistent. If it were as bad as stated now, it should have been marked for speedy deletion when it was posted, and I could have used one of those tags to stop the process. Now it's too late. I also had five issues of clean up, but some how each same issue was doubled to be eleven (you know, re-run)! That doesn't even reflect the truth. Next, I edited the article a few days after it was posted and pushed save, but it didn't save it...it was deleated; also I changed the title at the suggestion of an editor to: "New Reserch Indicates Robert de Saint Clair and Eleanor de Dreux may be the founders of the Sinclairs of Scotland", but it never changed on the edit page?

2. I was working on including sources, but I was waiting for some info from Scotland that never came.

3. I would like to rewrite the article from a different perspective, as an editor pointed that I should do, and here is what the focus would be:

The Sinclairs of Scotland are of general interest to the public and are important for: their influence in Scotland's history, the great interest that they have generated in popular culture (thanks largely to Dan Brown), they created the beautiful Rosslyn Chapel and most importantly they are instramental from a historical perspective for the role they may have played in the birth of the Templar Knights and Freemasonry in Scotland.

I would not call this article's perspective strictly genealogical, but historical. Robert de Saintclair and Eleanor de Dreux are the founders of the Sinclair family in Scotland and this makes them historical personages; as such they are of interest to the general public, not just to genealogists, as is their lineage. However, I included what I think is an interesting scholary/historical note, i.e. that the ONE reliable source about the Saintclairs of Rosslyn is a manuscript written by Father Hays, their chaplain, stewart and kin in about 1690. It was anonymously edited (by a man name Maidenment) in the 1800's and important information changed or deleated; not all of it was even translated from Latin into English. Researchers, historians, writers and scholars have been using much of this incorrectly edited information as a source of history for years! Now a second edition is out that has been published by the Grand Lodge of Scotland and it is very exciting because the real truth about Father Hay's manuscripts are being revealed at last after more than 300 years... and of course there is more intigue as regards the Saintclairs of Rosslyn and why anyone would have anonymously edited Father Hay's historical information in the first place.

Why can't I find Spell Check?

Thank you for listening to my tale of woe, but this journey has been very rocky in more ways than one. ThanksWhitelightening (talk) 06:11, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Let's see if I can help you out a bit.
1. The article was deleted because it did not meet the criteria for inclusion. I would guess the reason the article was marked as a PROD then marked for "Speedy Deletion" was it was decided by the nominator and then by an Admin that the article should be deleted without waiting. Adding a {{hangon}} would not have stopped the process. Changing the title would not change the content and therefore it would still be deleted.
2. It is assumed articles are "ready for Prime-time" before being entered into Wikipedia. Articles lacking references are subject to immediate deletion.
3. A rewrite would be a good start; however, without seeing the final product, I have no way of assessing the adequacy of the rewrite as it pertains to Wikipedia inclusion criteria. You may want to create the article in a User/sandbox and edit it there before uploading it to the mainspace. BTW - there is no spell check in Wikipedia.
Good luck and my best to you. ttonyb (talk) 06:59, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

WOEmu

Hi, i would like to know more details regarding the deletion of the WOEmu page.

I see it as a legitimate page, and if you were to checkout our website you would see much progress. This is the second time it has been proposed for deletion, the first time however was an attack of vandalism. I have removed the deletion warning, and hope never to see one again. —Preceding unsigned comment added by AquaFiX (talkcontribs) 07:17, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

The article appears to not meet the Wikipedia criteria for notability. Notability is not a result of the progress shown on your webpage, but results from verifiability supported by reliable sources. ttonyb (talk) 07:31, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

2008 deletion

Hi, I'm not sure exactly what 'Please DO NOT add anybody with less than nine non-English language Wikipedia articles' means. Sorry, new to this. Does it mean non (English language Wikipedia) articles, meaning articles written outside of Wikipedia about a subject or does it mean articles in Wikipedia that are not written in English? Thanks. Sputtnik (talk) 03:45, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

It means the article has to exist in other Wikipedia projects beside the English version. if you look on the left panel of 2008 under Languages, it will list all the projects besides English that the article exists on. If you click on the project it will take you to the article in that language. Thanks for asking... ttonyb (talk) 04:13, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

So basically your saying that if I log into my account(I have one yes) then I can edit the section without interfering with the "shared IP" right? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.222.48.207 (talk) 05:47, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Huh, what I am saying is the event is not notable and that the death is already in the Deaths section of the article. ttonyb (talk) 05:49, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
1.Why is the "event not notable"?
2.What wikipedia laws or officials make this decision? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.222.48.207 (talk) 06:47, 24 January 2010 (UTC)
Her death is included in the Deaths section of the year. Although tragic, the event of her death is only a single event in her life and is not covered by a separate article. Please see WP:RY, for help in understanding the inclusion of events in recent years. I have gone ahead and removed the event from the year. If after reading the text of WP:RY you feel it should be added in, please start a discussion in 2001 talk page and get consensus that is should. Until then the event will continue to be removed. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 16:28, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion declined: Desire (band)

Hello Ttonyb1. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Desire (band), a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Pitchfork review is a credible assertion of notability sufficient for A7. PROD or take to AfD if required. Thank you. GedUK  21:15, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up. ttonyb (talk) 21:19, 24 January 2010 (UTC)

Mr. Thierry is notable he falls under Creative Professionals & Television Personality. This article is highly notable and in interest of several people. His website receives over 1,000,000 hits weekly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ttonline (talkcontribs) 04:05, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

Goggle hits does not provide notability under Wikipedia criteria. The article still fails WP:ENT and WP:CREATIVE. ttonyb (talk) 04:15, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Mr. Tony I'm not quite understanding a person of interest a notable person you hear about. Whats the first thing you do to find out more about the person? Google them right. I think the Google hits prove's Mr. Thierry's relevancy in the fashion industry. I believe the hits and traffic his website receives serves notable. I believe him sitting front row at fashion week and attending the most exclusive fashion industry events in the world serves as notability. I've the definition of notable people and Mr. Thierry falls under several categories, he is a personality, socialite, industry professional in his field. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ttonline (talkcontribs) 04:30, 25 January 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately, your definition of notability is not the Wikipedia definition of notability. In addition, not only does "real-world" notability have little, if any, relevance to Wikipedia notability, popularity is not a mark of Wikipedia notability. ttonyb (talk) 05:47, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

I think he badly fails WP:POLITICIAN, but the community may have to decide at WP:AfD. Bearian (talk) 05:52, 25 January 2010 (UTC)

re deletion of Love Machine (Novel)

Hi tony,

I am new here and trying to work out how to format properly. From memory you flagged my page for deletion because the book Love Machine was unpublished and un notable. The book is being released by Penguin on Feb 1 at the latest but hopefully 27th of december in stores. Hopefully that should address the unpublished aspect of your complaint. How do you class un notable? I think an Australian author of literay fiction is a notable and worthy thing to have a page about. You also mentioned no Ghits. What are Ghits? does G refer to google? If so there are plenty of google hits for the book, and no doubt many more when it's released potentially today? Maybe you can just let me know what it needs and I will try and navigate through all the formatting. Me, not too tech savvy as yet, cheers Warren Butler (talk) 03:43, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Warren, the book has not been nominated for deletion because it is unpublished, but rather because it fails to meet the criteria in WP:NOTBOOK to establish notability. You are correct that GHits are Google hits; however, please note that a high number of GHits does not guarantee notability. The article must be supported by reliable sources. Being published by a major player is not a guarantee of Wikipedia notability nor does notability equal popularity. I have nominated the article for AfD to get hopefully get more comments on the article. My best to you. ttonyb (talk) 03:50, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi tony, it appears you are right about the notability issue. Fair enough. However, as several magazines and newspapers have flagged their intent to run reviews of the novel in the coming weeks, I feel that, if the wiki page is allowed to hang for a few weeks, then it will meet the criteria as set out in option 1 below. i.e. it will have been written about by a third party in a non trivial way in a national broadshhet newspaper?? cheers
The book has been the subject[1] of multiple, non-trivial[2] published works whose sources are independent of the book itself,[3] with at least some of these works serving a general audience. This includes published works in all forms, such as newspaper articles, other books, television documentaries and reviews. Some of these works should contain sufficient critical commentary to allow the article to grow past a simple plot summary.Warren Butler (talk) 04:02, 27 January 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately, Wikipedia is not a crystal ball. You should be able to recreate the article in seconds after it gains Wikipedia based notability and you have added the appropriate reliable resources. I would suggest you copy it to a User/sandbox. (i.e., User_talk:Warren Butler/sandbox) My best to you... ttonyb (talk) 04:19, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Hope you don't mind, I invoked your name here. The incident I was referring to was a few days ago, and it bugged me at the time but I didn't say anything, the username was User:Sorpartners, the ones whose url is sorp.org. (Watching) - Dank (push to talk) 15:58, 27 January 2010 (UTC)

Not a problem. Thanks for the heads up and my best to you. ttonyb (talk) 04:37, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Dear Ttonyb1,

I have posted a request for approval to enigmaman and thought I would add one here as well, since it is not clear to me who might be able to assist. I have thus far been unsuccessful in posting a page for the artist Konstantin Lifschitz and I want to make sure that my next attempt has success. Twice the article has been flagged and removed. I have gone back over the guidelines for biographies of living persons. I am rewriting the strict biographical facts in my own words and confirming these with both the subject and his mother. I am not sure how I should reference that, but I assume that by using the actual person and his parent for the confirmation of the facts is acceptable somehow. I'm not sure what else is required as far as referencing other facts, but I would like to make sure that I am doing this properly. If you would be able to suggest the best way to go about running this by you or someone else in the wiki community I would so appreciate it. I am hoping that I am going about all of this in the correct way. thank you for your kind attention on this. Fresh digital produce (talk) 02:58, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Sorry to hear you are having a bit of trouble. It looks as if I nominated the article for deletion last October, so I don't really remember the article; however, based on the Speedy Deletion tag, it looks appears as if I marked it because it was a copyright violation. There are a couple of things to be careful about when writing an article. The article needs to meet the criteria in WP:NOT or one of the sub pages concerning notability. you also need to make sure it is not a violation of Wikipedia copyright guidelines or copyright laws. I'll check to see if you have a Welcome message on your talk page. The Welcome message has a number of valuable links that can help you create an article that meets Wikipedia guidelines. I would suggest creating the article in a user/sandbox. (i.e., User:Fresh digital produce/sandbox) After you recreate the article let me or Enigmaman know and we can take a look at the article and give you some suggestions. My best to you... ttonyb (talk) 03:17, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Dear Ttonyb1, Thank you for the kind suggestions. Yes, I believe it was confusing for me from the outset since I was using work that I had originally written, although I had posted this work product as a press release on another site, which I assume 'damaged' it for any future use on wikipedia. I really appreciate your offer to review my work before it gets posted again and I look forward to your comments and your further suggestions in making this attempt a successful one. Sending kindest regards, Fresh digital produce (talk) 07:33, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

hey tony, whypark's significance is clearly stated as it provides an alternative to typical domain parking. if you'd like me to expand on that, i can-but how that isnt clear isnt something i get. maybe you could offer a little suggestion for how you'd like to see this changed. i dont work for this company btw-i just like their service and they build content for people that have parked domains-pretty valuable in my eyes (and the other 100k plus people that use their service). let me know if you disagree, or if you have a suggestion for revision. The article needs to be supported by verifiable reliable sources. The references you have included do not meet these requirements. The author of an article has the burden of proof when creating an article. The subject may be well known, but the article needs to meet the requirements of notability in WP:BIO and WP:ENT. Additionally, please note that real-world notability does not equal Wikipedia notability. ttonyb (talk) 03:47, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
