Information icon Hello, I'm HapHaxion. I noticed that you recently removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Please do not replace more specific logos of domains with national symbols. Those are only to be used if a more specific logo does not exist. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Portuguese Macau, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Macanese. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:02, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

As a relatively new editor, you may be unware that you should follow WP:BRD if an edit you make is reverted but you disagree with this. I have started the discussion for you at Talk:Flag of North Macedonia#Alternative flag proportion. You are claiming something which is not supported by a reliable source. I am happy to see your edit restored if you are able to provide such references. Bazza (talk) 09:41, 25 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

National varieties of English

[edit]

Information icon Hello. In a recent edit to the page British America, you changed one or more words or styles from one national variety of English to another. Because Wikipedia has readers from all over the world, our policy is to respect national varieties of English in Wikipedia articles.

For a subject exclusively related to the United Kingdom (for example, a famous British person), use British English. For something related to the United States in the same way, use American English. For something related to another English-speaking country, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, India, or Pakistan use the variety of English used there. For an international topic, use the form of English that the original author of the article used.

In view of that, please don't change articles from one version of English to another, even if you don't normally use the version in which the article is written. Respect other people's versions of English. They, in turn, should respect yours. Other general guidelines on how Wikipedia articles are written can be found in the Manual of Style. If you have any questions about this, you can ask me on my talk page or visit the help desk. Thank you. BilCat (talk) 09:52, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Union Flag

[edit]

A Jack is a small flag flown in the bows of a warship; nowadays from the jackstaff, previously from some other spar. To call the Union Flag a "jack" in other contexts is a nickname and inappropriate for an encyclopaedia. I've reverted your change for you. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:22, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page watcher) Yet the title of the article is "Union Jack". Seems odd to object to using it in the infobox title without changing the article title first. BilCat (talk) 10:26, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It has changed back and forth over the years. There is a consensus not to change it which I accept. Were it up to me I would change the article title immediately! Most other countries have the articles "Flag of ...", for instance Germany, France, Japan, China, Spain, the Phillipines. How would your average American react if I changed the article Flag of the United States to "Old Glory"? Wiki is a US-dominated site and there are a lot of (unintentional) slights thrown around to force other countries into the same linguistic mold as the USA, this is just one example. We'll probably see more activity come midday (here) when the East Coast wakes up! Martin of Sheffield (talk) 10:48, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Your reversion edit summary said: Please do not change "flag" to "jack", it is wrong, offensive and disrespectful.. TrueAuraCoral's edit might have been inaccurate, but "offensive and disrespectful" is stretching it a bit. Perhaps a bit of tolerance is needed (in the same way I'd expect Filipinos to be tolerant of others). "Union Jack" is what, in my long experience, most of our compatriots call our Union Flag, and fits well with WP:COMMONNAME. Bazza (talk) 10:57, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Bazza 7: I think you need to distinguish between an informal nickname used down the pub and the formal name. WP should use the formal name and seek to educate. Purely personally I would say that most of my acquaintances know the correct term and I'd say around half use it in conversation. However world-wide there is a general misunderstanding and as a result there is not meant to be any changing of the article either way. See the heading to the talk page and the linked discussions. Martin of Sheffield (talk) 11:46, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Generally, the infobox title matches the title. You're probably peeing into the wind trying to use a different title there, but if that's how you want to fight the battle, that's your choice. (I'll leave the American dominance issue for some other talk page, but from my perspective, it usually goes both ways.) BilCat (talk) 11:09, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

No merge proposal rationale

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you added merge banners to the Flag of Germany and Flag of the German Empire articles. However, you did not add a merge rationale to one of the talk pages, which should be linked to in the merge banners, nor did you specify which article is to be merged into the other. Without a rationale, no one will know why you want to merge the articles, and the tags will likely be removed. Please see WP:MERGE#Proposing a merger for the steps to follow in proposing a merger. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 23:52, 8 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Another user, User:Des Vallee, has removed the merge tags. Please do not add them back without also adding a merge rationale to one of the talk pages. Thanks. BilCat (talk) 22:02, 13 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Article move of Turkey (bird) to Turkey Bird

[edit]

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Turkey (bird), without good reason. They should have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. Wikipedia has some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. If you would like to experiment with page titles and moving, please use the test Wikipedia. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. — BarrelProof (talk) 06:33, 24 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Final warning before moving articles without consensus

[edit]

Stop icon You may be blocked from editing without further warning the next time you disrupt Wikipedia. OhNoitsJamie Talk 02:36, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ohnoitsjamie: Your "wish" has been granted countless times, my friend. This account has made at least a half year of gratuitously disruptive editing just according to this Talk page (WP:TEND WP:NOTHERE). He has never responded to any of the countless offenses, and they just keep coming, so I have no intention of engaging in bad-faith futility. He is single-minded on logos, and pretty much WP:OWNs them, so is now edit warring on them. Then he started senselessly reverting my edits, some unrelated, in retaliation.[1] He likes uploading inexplicably lower res versions of long-term stable files, and calling it cropped when it isn't at all, such as this lower-than-minimum file.[2] See the edit summary there, indicating WP:OWN. See this incoherent blurb[3] of casting WP:ASPERSIONS onto my thoughts, and saying that a poor quality (MOS:IMAGEQUALITY and redundant to the existing logo) photo of somebody's desk is the essence of article readability. He has abused the Commons feature of uploading a new version of the same image, to replace different images and call them the same. He vandalized an article, as stated below on this Talk page.[4] About half of all his edits have been reverted by countless editors, and all the rest were nonessential. WP:CIR. Can I please stop listing a litany or are we all done with the bad faith, bad-idea-loving, WP:TENDENTIOUSness? On another issue, does the WP:CORPNAME policy extend to Wikimedia Commons, such that Crystalpepsi21 should be put to process? That account was created just to upload a terrible photo of its named product. — Smuckola(talk) 00:03, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Songwo

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Songwo requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section R3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer, or other unlikely search term.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Guliolopez (talk) 02:10, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

If you had an issue with that proposed flag, what do you think about this? Adakiko (talk) 10:32, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Molossia Page

Hello! I thought I’d reach out and let you know I removed all of your edits for the Molossia page and any related content. Molossia is not a satire or comedy project. Whether or not you take them seriously is a personal choice. However, they maintain in their website, Twitter, and media appearances that it is *not* a joke and is meant to be taken seriously. Edit-warring, not communicating with other editors

[edit]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;
  2. Do not edit war even if you believe you are right.

If you find yourself in an editing dispute, use the article's talk page to discuss controversial changes and work towards a version that represents consensus among editors. You can post a request for help at an appropriate noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, it may be appropriate to request temporary page protection. If you engage in an edit war, you may be blocked from editing. OhNoitsJamie Talk 00:41, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

User:Smuckola was clearly the one who started the war by forcing his own image over a better image TAC PlazaMaster (talk) 00:48, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He reverted many edits I had made that had no violations, arguably I did make a few mistakes but not as many of Smuckola is trying to imply. TAC PlazaMaster (talk) 00:50, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What I am confused about is why hasn't Smuckola gained a warning for his actions?TAC PlazaMaster (talk) 00:50, 12 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The guy used terms such as "Totally wrong, total garbage photo" against the commons image I had placed, just to defend a photo of arguable quality that he had taken himself against other editors. I may not be the most experienced editor but I must admit that he is abusing his soft power and knowledge of how to abuse the system against smaller editors. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:RC Cola can.png

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:RC Cola can.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Do you think that you could stop re-adding that logo you made to New Coke, or at least initiate a discussion on the talk page as to why we should have it in the article? Oknazevad keeps giving his reasons for taking it out; your continued restoration of the image without discussion is by this point getting disruptive. Daniel Case (talk) 03:16, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

To be fair, the last logo was not the same one, just the plain "Coke" block text used as a secondary logo in the period immediately prior to the new formula.
But that said, I see zero reason to bother with any logo there. It adds nothing. Remember, New Coke was explicitly not a separate product, but a new formula of the existing Coca-Cola; it even kept the same SKU number. Coca-Cola Classic was the belated-released new line extension with a new SKU, intended as a mollification of those objecting to the change and expected to have limited production and sales volumes compared to the official regular Coke, much like the modern Pepsi-Cola Made with Real Sugar (née Pepsi Throwback).
What the company didn't expect was that everyone would flock to Coca-Cola Classic and it would not only outsell new-formula Coke, it would end Pepsi's climb once and for all, easily claiming the crown as the best-selling soda in the US. The writing was on the wall when McDonald's, by far The Coca-Cola Company's largest customer by orders of magnitude, stated that they wanted Coca-Cola Classic only and would no longer carry the new-formula Coke at all. Despite this, and despite the way the company usually glosses over the fact when they recount the history, new-formula Coke was not discontinued, and it did not loose the official claim to the bare "Coca-Cola" name until it was renamed Coke II in 1992, 7 years later. (And even then it wasn't discontinued until 2000.) Coca-Cola Classic didn't officially get its real name back fully until 2009, when the word "Classic", which had been shrinking on bottles for years, was finally removed. Even then, some grocery inventory systems still ring it up as "Coca-Cola Classic" to this day.
the point of all this digression into history is that the New Coke article doesn't need a logo because new-formula Coke didn't have a separate logo. It's logo was the Coca-Cola logo because it was the official Coca-Cola. The image of the can shows the banner that gave the formula change its common name, and that's all that is needed. oknazevad (talk) 03:36, 15 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war according to the reverts you have made on English people. This means that you are repeatedly changing content back to how you think it should be although other editors disagree. Users are expected to collaborate with others, to avoid editing disruptively, and to try to reach a consensus, rather than repeatedly undoing other users' edits once it is known that there is a disagreement.

Points to note:

  1. Edit warring is disruptive regardless of how many reverts you have made;

I believe the original image is a better illustration for the article, since this is the original look of Velma, and she spots this appearance in most Scooby-Doo installments (both TV shows and features). By contrast, her new look, where she is depicted as being of Indian descent, is limited to only the new animated show Velma, which is part of an entirely different Scooby-Doo canon. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.

To opt out of receiving messages like this one, place {{Ds/aware}} on your user talk page and specify in the template the topic areas that you would like to opt out of alerts about. For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

US flag

[edit]

The official colors of the US flag are specified. Please stop attempting to change images of the flag in Wikipedia to one with the incorrect colors. Also, stop changing files on Commons to be incorrect. Continuing to do so will result in your being reported to administrators both here and there to be blocked from editing. For the record, from a technical standpoint there is no evidence of a compromise. I'll post some details on CU-wiki if there is an appeal.-- Ponyobons mots 19:09, 28 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
