My current (2016–present) focus on Wikipedia is improving representation of marginalized people. Transgender/nonbinary people and Black people[2] are my priorities. I have been active on the LGBT Studies and Women in Red WikiProjects and the Whose Knowledge? user group.
At the inaugural Bay Area WikiSalon in April 2016, I participated on a panel discussing transgender issues, and talked about my experiences and frustrations with trans coverage on Wikipedia. I gave presentations on this subject at WikiConference North America in October 2016[3] and at the Wikimedia Foundation in June 2017.[4]
In June 2016, I created a proposal for the Inspire Campaign to combat harassment by protecting user pages from editing by anonymous and new users. Six months and an RfC later, this idea was implemented via an edit filter. You can read all about it in The Signpost. I also gave a presentation on this subject at WikiConference North America in August 2017.[5]
In April 2019, I was one of the editors featured in a New York Times article about harassment on Wikipedia. For more context and details about the harassment I experienced, see my post on Medium.
In August 2023, I was named Media Contributor of the Year for the 2023 Wikimedian of the Year awards. (See also my post on Medium.) That same month, the Bay Area Reporter published an article about me and my contributions to the Wikimedia projects.
In October 2023, I was interviewed along with fellow nonbinary editor Tamzin for a WIKIMOVE podcast episode on transgender representation and harassment.
I contribute to Wikipedia (and Wikimedia Commons) on my own time; no one pays me to do so. If I do ever edit a page directly related to my employment, I will post a COI declaration as appropriate.
