Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did in Francis Scott Key, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Pbritti (talk) 01:25, 12 March 2023 (UTC)
- Apologies, still trying to figure out Style. Cheers The Lord of Misrule (talk) 01:27, 12 March 2023 (UTC)

[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Old money, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Thomas Lee and Stratford Hall. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

Fair Grounds Race Course and The Louisiana Jockey Club, is it possible the two should be merged into the same article as the latter is part of the history of the former? Or you think they both need their own article with separate histories? Could be, but worth asking. Andre🚐 04:31, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- It is a thought, although if you dig into the subject matter further Jockey Club's weren't the only one's using the course. The owners of the track. or proprietors, were usually part of the Club but would also lease their tracks to other groups, clubs and likewise sponsor purses at other courses, as the louisiana jockey club did at the eclipse course in 1837, during the new orleans jockey club's spring meeting. The Lord of Misrule (talk) 15:36, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Got it, thanks. Andre🚐 15:41, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- I've actually found a Fair Grounds Jockey Club existing at the same time as the Louisiana Jockey Club. Cheers The Lord of Misrule (talk) 21:30, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
- Got it, thanks. Andre🚐 15:41, 19 December 2023 (UTC)
Hello - In the above article, the reason I added "circa" to the date in the infobox is because the article text says "founded prior to 1836." To my understanding, that means "not" 1936. So the infobox should read circa 1936 or the article text should say definitively 1936. Gjs238 (talk) 00:43, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
- sorry, thanks The Lord of Misrule (talk) 01:27, 20 December 2023 (UTC)
I made some edits to William Newton Mercer. His Wiki bio makes him look maybe non-notable, however, a look online shows many reliable sources supporting his notability. He was a big plantation owner, and had a diverse career. If you put "~William Newton Mercer" into the search box you can see some of the Wiki articles that mention him. I'll make some additions to the article in the next while. Thank you for creating this article. Magnolia677 (talk) 00:06, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- Cheers, THX!!! The Lord of Misrule (talk) 00:59, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- He was indeed notable in the history of New Orleans, as the sources mention. So, I made mention in the lead section that he was a prominent civic leader in during the 1800s--that is his essential significance. I moved the personal background info. out of the lead an into the background section, where it will not detract from his notability. Any person whose house became the home of the Boston Club would definitely be very prominent (along with the Pickwick Club, it played a critical role in the history of nineteenth century business)--so I put that into the lead too. I was fascinated to learn that home of Boston Club had been his residence. GloryRoad66 (talk) 01:46, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello The Lord of Misrule! Your additions to William Newton Mercer have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.
- You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
- Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
- We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
- If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 14:29, 30 December 2023 (UTC)

Introduction to contentious topics
[edit]You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.
Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:
- adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
- comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
- follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
- comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
- refrain from gaming the system.
Additionally, you must be logged-in, have 500 edits and an account age of 30 days, and are not allowed to make more than 1 revert within 24 hours on a page within this topic.
Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
