Adoption - are you still interested?
[edit]Hello.
I'm responding (rather belatedly) to your request for support under the Adopt-a-User scheme. I see you started editing with a flourish in March 2017, but haven't looked too active since. Is there anything specific you need help with? Did you hit problems? If so, feel free to ask me directly, or you can always post a question at the WP:Teahouse (where I also lurk from time to time). Or maybe you got disillusioned and decided Wikipedia wasn't for you after all?
Being adopted by an experienced Wikipedian does takes commitment from both sides, and I’m sorry if we let you down. Should you return to active editing and still want to be 'adopted', your best bet would be to look at our list of active adopters and choose one whose skillset best seem to match your own interests in editing here. Once you've found one that seems to suit, contact them on their talk page and explain your interests and aspirations to learn about Wikipedia.
Now, I've not taken on an adoptee myself yet - at the moment I'm just trying to kick-start the Adopt-a-User Project back into a working state. But I could offer you some rather unstructured support if you wish. I would look to see steady activity and some keenness to contribute from any adoptee. So, get back in touch with me or any of us if you are still interested and you do return to editing. If you're longer wanting to pursue that route of learning, that's fine. The offer template will be removed in a month or so if there's no response from you. You can always join again later, if you wish. Many thanks, and regards from the UK, Nick Moyes (talk) 22:12, 30 January 2018 (UTC)
--Hello Nick Moyes! I had hit a Wiki-lull but now I'm back! I would love to be adopted as I have goals for more new pages this year. I will reach out on the adoption page you linked. Thanks! Terasaface (talk) 17:17, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

Women in Red
[edit]Hi there, Terasaface, and welcome to Women in Red. I see you have already created one women's biography, Wendy Maruyama, and hope there will be many more. In looking for the names of artists still to be covered, you might find it useful to use our Redlist index and the items highlighted on our focus for Women's History Month. You might also like to look through out Ten Simple Rules. Please let me know if you run into any difficulties or need assistance. Happy editing!--Ipigott (talk) 10:21, 1 March 2019 (UTC)
Disambiguation link notification for October 9
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Native Arts and Cultures Foundation, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Mateo Romero (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

References in Judy Sullivan
[edit]In edit you added a citation to an article in Good Morning America. You listed the first and last parameter in the cite web template as "|first=Good Morning |last=America
". This is incorrect. The first and last parameters are to provide the name of the author. In a news story, this means the reporter, not the publication. I have corrected this. Please be careful with this in future use.
There are a few other problems with the citation bibliographic details in this article, which i intend to fix. But I thank you for finding additional sources and working on the article. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 17:29, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you DESiegel for catching that and for reaching out to me about it! I will watch to see what is fixed in the citations. Thanks! Terasaface (talk) 17:56, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- The Good Morning America citatio lacked a date, which I have supplied.
- The book citation, Right stuff, wrong sex : America's first women in space program has several issues:
- There is no page number cited. Where exactly in the book was the statement
Sullivan worked closely with the astronauts, monitoring data such as heart rate and breathing from the astronauts' biomedical devices, ensuring they were healthy enough to go into space.
supported? - Did you have access to the physical book, or an electroniuc version of the entire book? If not, it should not be cited at all
- You provided a URL that goes to a worldcat listing. A url in a book cite should go to an online copy of the book itself. if there is none, no URL should be supplied.
- The author's birth (or death) date should never be included in a source citation. When giving a birth date for a living person elsewhere in Wikipedia, never use the form (1971-). Instead use (born 1971). Use a dash only when both birth and death dates are known.
- There is no page number cited. Where exactly in the book was the statement
- Please use meaningful ref names, not meaningless automatic names such as ":1"
- Date formats in citations should be consistent within an article. Please follow the format already used in an article if it is used consistently\
- the work= or its alias website= parameters should be followd by the name of the work, not its web domain, unless it has no other name. Use "The Morning Call" not "mcall.com"
- You duplicated the cite to the The Morning Call articel, which was already in the draft. I will be combining them.
I hope these are clear and helpful. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 17:58, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks DESiegel! I have to admit much of this is over my head, I generally use the automatic citation function on wikipedia. Is this not the best practice seeing as it auto-generates some wrong information? Or perhaps I just need to be more attentive and notice when things are incorrect.
- For the "Right Stuff, wrong sex" I was in the library and has access to a partial electronic copy of the book. Is that not reliable enough as a source? Since I am not currently in the library and am not sure what page I read information about Judy Sullivan on, should we omit the citation?
- Thanks DESiegel! I have to admit much of this is over my head, I generally use the automatic citation function on wikipedia. Is this not the best practice seeing as it auto-generates some wrong information? Or perhaps I just need to be more attentive and notice when things are incorrect.
- As for
Sullivan worked closely with the astronauts, monitoring data such as heart rate and breathing from the astronauts' biomedical devices, ensuring they were healthy enough to go into space.
, that information came from the following quotes "Sullivan, now 76, was the lead engineer for the biomedical system for the mission, working to ensure the astronauts were healthy enough for spaceflight." [1], "As a biomedical engineer, Sullivan monitored the equipment that kept track of the astronauts’ heartbeats and breathing while they were in space. She was the only female voice on NASA’s testing channels for engineers and technicians, and one of the few women in a control room as Apollo 11 launched on July 16, 1969." [2], and the image caption "NASA biomedical engineer Judy Sullivan was one of the people who kept track of astronauts’ respiration, body temperature and heartbeat through small sensors attached to their bodies, including the Apollo 11 crew. Credit: NASA" [3] I hope that clears things up! I do apologize for improper citations!
- As for
- In terms of reference names instead of numbers - is that referring to the numbered list of citations? I am unfamiliar with any other way, would you be so kind as to provide an example of what you're talking about?
- Thanks so much for walking me through all this! Terasaface (talk) 18:24, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- If you look at the wiki source for the lead section, you will see:
Judy Sullivan (born 1943) is a retired Biomedical Engineer. She worked for NASA during the Apollo 11, Apollo 10, Apollo 9, Apollo 8 and Gemini 12 missions.
- I am referring to
<ref name="nasa-9Jul19">

the name= parameters in the ref tag are what allow reuse of a citation. In the veraion you had saved, there were things such as<ref name=":0">

. Some citation tools produce these sorts of names automatically, but they mean when looking at later citations in the source there is no cluse which source is beign cited, althoguh it makes no difference to the rendered display version. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:50, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- On the book, a partial text can be sufficient, but the problem is that by including the citation, we are inviting readers to go to the book and use it to verify our article, and perhaps learn more. Without a page number or other location, a reader is faced with looking for the fact somewhere in the book, with perhaps no clue where. I'll see if I can get library access to the book, as I hate to lose a potentially good cite. but unless someoen can provide a page number, I fear we will have to remove the cite. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:50, 18 October 2019 (UTC) By listing it as a cite at the end of a sentence, we are saying that the book verifies the statements in that sentence. It could be moved to a "Further reading" section if it doesn't support any specific statement in the article. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 18:56, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks so much DESiegel! Terasaface (talk) 21:10, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

Don't source statements like "Hiller has written articles for outlets including..." to the actual articles themselves; if secondary sources are not mentioning that she has written these articles, then it is not due weight to mention them.

Artistic response to the killing of George Floyd
[edit]Thanks for contributing to the George Floyd protests in Minneapolis–Saint Paul article. Public art is certainly an important aspect of it and photos and content belong in it. In fact, public art may be an under-covered aspect of the entire protest movement. Would it be worth also having a stand alone article about that topic?
The George Floyd protest series features the following stand alone articles:
- Reactions to the killing of George Floyd
- Violence and controversies during the George Floyd protests
- List of police violence incidents during George Floyd protests
- Buffalo police shoving incident
- Donald Trump photo op at St. John's Church
- Eight minutes 46 seconds
Artistic response to the killing of George Floyd, or something like that might fit in, and provide balance to the focus on violence and property destruction.
Just an idea/thought in my head as my bandwidth is running low. VikingB (talk) 17:22, 6 July 2020 (UTC)
- That is a great idea VikingB! Thank you for all your work editing that page as well! I have been thinking that the artist's response merits its own page and this is the boost I need to start it. I am working with a group of editors on some of the murals that have popped up in the past weeks so I think I will discuss with them how to go about this since it is a bit beyond my experience level with wiki. I will start working on that draft page today or tomorrow and will be sure to ping you when I do! Thanks, Terasaface (talk) 19:48, 8 July 2020 (UTC)

WikiProject Textile Arts and WikiProject Women in Red / Crafts -- shared interests?
[edit]Hello Terasaface! I recently joined WP:TA and even more recently found your user page. I think we have lots of shared interests and would love to chat. Perhaps about collaborating to work on articles of women artists? Also fascinated by your zine project. There is a conversation going on at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Textile Arts that might interest you. Enby (talk) 03:49, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hello @Enby:! Thank you for reaching out! It sounds like we do have similar interests and I am always excited to see other folks doing this work!! I was working on the Women in Red/Crafts when I was organizing an event with the American Craft Council and would love to see it expand more globally. I will join the talk at Project Textile Arts. Are you a part of Art+Feminism? The Slack channel they have seems to be a good place to expand this discussion as well. Looking forward to writing about craftswomen with you!! Terasaface (talk)
- @Terasaface: What fun, I just started a draft on Lillian Elliott who I believe was a Fellow at the American Craft Council. (Will verify with independent, reliable sources!) In the very early stages at the moment but feel free to edit it if you'd like. I'm not yet part of Art+Feminism yet but will check them out and join the Slack channel too. Have a feeling we will talk soon! Enby (talk) 21:31, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
editing out Rimpel’s abuse is erasing testimony from survivors and you know it. Unless you are her hiding behind this name, you are silencing survivors stories — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jgonzales95 (talk • contribs) 21:29, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Jgonzales95: Adding allegations of abuse based on unsubstantiated claims made by people on social media violates Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy. If the allegations have been a) reported by reliable sources and b) can be deemed significant (i.e. have had a significant impact on the subject's life or career), then we might mention them, but you have not demonstrated either of those factors yet. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 21:34, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Jgonzales95: Personal blogs and social media posts are "primary sources" and are too close to the subject to be deemed credible for citing on Wikipedia. When a reliable, published source covers this story, then we can add it to the page. I would suggest reading the pages Wikipedia:Reliable sources and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons to better understand these policies. For an example, visit the page Talk:Rhymesayers Entertainment where I have requested an edit about the recent abuse allegations and, since I personally am too close to the subject and cannot remain neutral, I have dropped links to several reliable news sources which would pass Wikipedia's verifiability policies. Also, the place for this discussion is Talk:Lady Midnight (artist) so if you have more to say on this discussion please do it there. Thank you, Terasaface (talk) 19:31, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
Leeya Rose Jackson moved to draftspace
[edit]An article you recently created, Leeya Rose Jackson, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:
" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Mccapra (talk) 11:23, 10 October 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the feedback, Mccapra. I will work on finding more sources for this article. Terasaface (talk) 02:15, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
A discussion is taking place as to whether the article DJ Keezy is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/DJ Keezy until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 16:50, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
- Just a note to say that I am truly seeking consensus on this nomination and I really hope it does not discourage you from writing articles about underrepresented subjects in the future. AleatoryPonderings (talk) 16:52, 11 October 2020 (UTC)
