Glenn Plaid vs Prince of Whales Check
[edit]Gelnn Plaid (a fabric pattern) is often confused with Prince of Whales Check, and they are often used interchangeable. But there *is* a historical difference, and just because many people use these terms synonymously doesn't mean they are using the words correctly. For example, there are many people who refer to derby style shoes as "oxfords", when each term means something different both historically and currently.
Prince of Whales check is a more specific variant of Glenn Plaid. Prince of Whales check is a Glenn plaid but ALSO includes an over check, an additional pattern overlay on top of the Glenn Plaid. This overly is usually a red or blue large check pattern on top of the Glenn plaid. This is the style that the "Prince of Whales" (Edward VIII) made popular in the early 20th century. I would like to update the wiki entry for Glenn Plaid to reflect this difference, but I've only made 3 wiki edits in my life (for grammar and spelling mainly). I realize this kind of change will require people to discuss it, and I'm really an outsider so it's not for me to change on my own. It's just a pet peeve of mine that has finally motivated me to write this. I don't even know if anyone will even read this. But I've done "something" now, so that itch has been scratched. Thank you for your time. Killeroonie (talk) 22:41, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
- @Killeroonie: I would be happy to try and help with this but I've been unable to find a reliable source for this. Could you please help me find a good source, and I can help you to make the edit? Zeromonk (talk) 13:59, 17 July 2024 (UTC)
