/Archive 1, top-importance articles, and worklist

This talk page was getting kind of unwieldy, so I've archived it. I will be filling in summaries of active discussions in the next few minutes. Done - wasn't much still active.

I have also filled in Wikipedia:WikiProject_Textile_Arts/Organization#Fundamentals_of_textile_arts on the portal page; it now contains a list of the articles agreed on as fundamental (see top section of archive 1), plus a list of all other top-importance articles on our worklist. We may wish to revisit the list, moving some items down to high-importance (e.g. Sewing needle) and adding others to our core topics (e.g. Rug making). I have marked Wool as top-importance and added it to the worklist on the basis that Linen is currently top-importance as well. We should probably claim Cotton and Silk and maybe some major artificial fibers as well, and assign these fundamental materials ALL to either top or high.

While I've also put this on the help request page: there has got to be some way to make our template automatically add pages to our worklist. Possibly also add the top-importance ones to that new list as well. I don't know if that'd be part of the template, or a separate bot. And there's a redlink in the template at "importance" that should either be removed, or be changed to a link to the importance guidelines. My wiki skills aren't good enough to adjust templates or bots, so can someone else please fix this, or if none of us are good enough, is there someone we can ask for help?

I've been thinking about new articles Wool (textile), Cotton (textile) to separate the textile from the fiber/plant (as linen vs. flax). Thoughts? Overkill? - PKM 16:31, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

I actually think that's a pretty good idea. I find similar problems with articles about types of wood; the article about the tree contains little information, and any addition wouldn't seem to fit well. --Eyrian 21:43, 10 July 2007 (UTC)

Embroidery pages: continued discussion

I will be building ecclesiastical embroidery in the next few days... I have some excellent books to work with on loan from my boss. If you have any information, images, etc., please feel free to start it, just make sure to note that it's being actively worked on so it doesn't get quick-deleted. Assessment consistency

I am the worst at consistency in assessing, but I am trying to do better. I have set major styles of embroidery and embroidery stitch as High, and the individual stitches or types of stitches to Mid. - PKM 03:04, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

These are all linked in. Tweaked a couple of redirects and removed olefin since it's a redirect to an article that doesn't mention textile uses - that should probably be fixed at some point. - PKM 12:33, 28 July 2007 (UTC)

Ecclesiastical embroidery again

Textile art vs Textile arts

Textile arts redirects to textile art, and in my thinking these are two different things: Textile art is the fine art (not practical objects) created using the techniques of the textile arts (sewing, weaving, needlework, etc.). Do we agree on this distinction? - PKM 22:46, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

I think we could make that distinction, but I think one could also view it just as the singular of "textile arts", referring to a particular art such as knitting. --Eyrian 23:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)
