Beauty and the Beast

[edit]

Hi Tenebrae, thanks for the "thanks" re: my reversion of plot bloat at Beauty and the Beast (1991 film). It probably wouldn't hurt if I could con you into leaving a quick, perfunctory note on the talk page. Based on some of their other edits, I see a pattern of adding bloated plots, so establishing some opinions early might help us down the road. A good day to you! Daredevil

[edit]

Thanks for your recent trimming of the 2010s section in Daredevil (comics). I've long felt that section was a little too bloated, but I haven't been keeping up with the series for the past decade so I wasn't sure which elements are important and which could be trimmed. I appreciate it.--NukeofEarl (talk) 16:39, 4 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I meant to reply to your post to my talk page a lot earlier, but I got distracted. Sorry about that. But yeah, I'll add Superhero to my watch list and have a good look over it.--NukeofEarl (talk) 18:01, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for taking the time on the article about one of America's famous aviatrix. She is kind of a hero of mine for her flying ability and who she knew in the early days of Edwards Air Force Base. I have been to the base museum several times and she was commonly referred to as Pancho and she loved that name. I noticed you changed some of the names to Barnes which may seem normally appropriate but I believe Pancho is more appropriate as that is what all the early test pilots like Chuck Yeager called her as she preferred that. Could you please change some of those back as I believe it is more appropriate here. It was also her flying name as well. Vive la Pancho! 172.56.15.36 (talk) 14:07, 22 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

TV RfC

[edit]

You've misinterpreted the closer's comments. As I explained at WT:TV, you asked two questions:

  1. Do we need to cite everything
  2. Can we use a stopwatch to time episodes

The closer has ignored the first question and concentrated on the second. This is reinforced by his statement on his talk page: If someone wants to start an RfC to discuss whether inline citation is required in the infobox or not, always assuming that the source of the figure is established from reliable independent sources, then that is a different question (emphasis added) That is why I asked the question on his talk page, but he didn't seem to get what I was asking. For the re3cord, you'll note that his edit summary for the close said Sadly, this cannot end in anything that will be enforceable. There's certainly nothing in what he has said to justify this edit, which is redundant at best, as sources are supposed to be third party. --AussieLegend () 03:14, 21 March 2015 (UTC) JzG has now confirmed that the question of inline citations needs to be addressed separately, rather than being bundled with the question of whether stopwatches can be used in lieu of citations. --AussieLegend () 13:17, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please note that the closer has now clarified everything at WT:TV#Rfc close, specifically stating, amongst other things, The RfC close has nothing to say about whether running times from reliable independent sources have to be cited inline in infoboxes Please do not be tempted to read anything into the procedural close of the RfC beyond the simple fact that no RfC can decide to allow original research of this kind. --AussieLegend () 10:59, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is a smokescreen. No one but you is talking about inline citing. The only thing the admin closer said is "third-party sourcing is required". That's not "reading anything into it." Those are the admin's exact words. Trying to misdirect and obfuscate by claiming that this is about inline citation when it is not is being deliberately misleading. You're better than that. --Tenebrae (talk) 15:05, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Smokescreen? really? You started a discussion at Template talk:Infobox television and started talking about cithing runtimes. You've been persistently arguing that runtimes should be cited in that discussion because that's what WP:FILM does. The RfC question starts with Do TV-show running times in the TV infobox require a citation to verify them and you've persistently been arguing that we should cite runtimes. You even insisted on one for Melissa & Joey, even though it took me less than 30 seconds to find a source that verified it, and you've added content to the infobox documentation saying that sources are required specifically for that parameter. --AussieLegend () 15:30, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have not said anything about inline citations since the RfC ended — because I accept the RfC's decision. (I even reverted myself almost immediately when I inadvertently made a mention of citations in the template.) So to say I am advocating for anything except "third-party sourcing required", as the admin himself put it, is a smokescreen. I have not said anything about inline citations since the RfC ended.--Tenebrae (talk) 15:33, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Given your history in the discussion it was not clear that you are no longer pushing for inline citations, especially when you insisted on one for Melissa & Joey and added the text to the infobox instructions. I can't find anywhere that JzG said anything was a smokescreen, although you've now used the word 3 times. --AussieLegend () 15:44, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think, ironically, you were reading things into my comments that weren't there. I'm not sure why it wasn't clear I was not pushing for inline citations, since I used that wording repeatedly (15:05 22 March: "No one but you is talking about inline citing."), but that's OK. In the interest of showing good faith and "putting my money where my mouth is", as the saying goes, please take a look at a comment I just posted at Template talk:Infobox television/doc#Runtime parameter as per RfC close and subsequent admin reiteration where I say, in no uncertain terms, what you are saying: That no inline citation is necessarily required. If you think we should even add that to the embedded note — well, yes, of course. I really do think we're ultimately on the same page.--Tenebrae (talk) 15:51, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Favorite book on writing

[edit]

Hello, Tenebrae. Thanks for the "thanks" on "which/that/which" over on "Brian Williams," and for the note. It's always fun to get a note on Wikipedia. From what you said, and from your mention of Strunk & White, it seemed you and I might care about the same sorts of things, and so I commend to you my favorite book on writing: The Practical Stylist, by Sheridan Baker. Here's a link from Amazon to my favorite edition, the one from 1962.

http://www.amazon.com/Practical-Stylist-sheridan-baker/dp/B000L1TI6K/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1427429812&sr=8-6&keywords=the+practical+stylist

I don't have a copy at hand right now, but I think I remember Uncle Sheridan on "which v. that" as follows: Test every "which" to see if it should be "that"; and then test every "that" to see if it should be gone! That's where I get into trouble: once I've dumped my "thats," subsequent editors are forever putting them back in. For example, they'd prefer I write to you about "the book that I like best on writing," rather than "the book I like best . . ."

I love talking about this stuff! Best -- Bruiserid (talk) 04:43, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tenebrae, though I see the logic, your tagging of Oklahoma Film Critics Circle Awards 20XX articles with G8 unfortunately wasn't a valid use of the tag; it's for more clear-cut dependencies rather than inherited lack of notability. Hi Tenebrae! I was just wondering if you were fortunate enough to view a press screener yet for the film? I'm planning to take it off my watchlist soon to avoid spoilers, and knowing your press connection, was hoping you might keep a watch over it as you've done with other MCU films in the past if you had. Thanks for your help with Avengers: Age of Ultron while we were away. The article still needs lots of eyes.-- TriiipleThreat (talk) 14:38, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you delete mine, you have to delete the one from this article too.

The various links to this comic strip ([1], [2], [3]) no longer work and that strongly supports the idea the strip ended. I can't find "official" confirmation of this.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:12, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Also [4], [5], and [6]. This particular newspaper does not run the Sunday strip. I could forward the email I was sent but I understand that's not regarded as a "reliable source" either. I responded to the email saying I needed an official announcement from King Features or a newspaper article.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 16:39, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The email I received had no details. It just said the strip ended. But I have possible good news. While I read the strip online during the week, the weekend strip appeared in a newspaper I see at a library which has an almost daily feature where people ask questions. I may also see a mention of the replacement strip when I look at the paper at the library, and that would be likely to have an explanation. The newspaper's web site is pathetic, though, so I'm not likely to see anything there without searching for it and even then ....— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions •
Sounds good, as long as the person responding is from the newspaper and not a letter-writer from the public. --Tenebrae (talk) 18:16, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It never occurred to me to look at older articles. I had no reason to read this one in the real paper (the headline said it was about street musicians), but when I realized I hadn't looked online for anything, I found it.— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 15:27, 15 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Trying to help...

[edit]

Heya, apologies for the unsolicited drop in...just wanted to say that while I think you're making a number of good points at WT:FILM, I'm concerned that your tone is undermining your credibility, potentially polarizing people and maybe even dissuading some people who might support your views from getting involved.

Feel free to utterly ignore what I'm saying. Just trying to help. I understand that you're frustrated and all (there are reasons why I disengaged from the situation), but you know what they say about flies and honey and vinegar and all...

Anyway, if you want to chat about it I'm totally cool with that. I won't say anything further about this unless I hear back, and I apologize if you feel I'm jumping on your case at all. Cheers! DonIago (talk) 19:30, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Accusations

[edit]

Hi. I’m bringing this here to your Talk because it seems way off topic to discuss there.

At WT:FILM, I said: “I’m not accusing you of making up the problem; I’m just asking where the problem is. —174.141.182.82 (talk) 22:42, 6 May 2015 (UTC)”

But then, you called me “Someone who has accused other editors of making up a longstanding problem … --Tenebrae (talk) 00:08, 7 May 2015 (UTC)”

I’m still pretty sure I’ve never done that. Please explain; if I’ve been making accusations without realizing it, I would very much like to know, so I could stop doing it and apologize for it. Thanks. —174.141.182.82 (talk) 02:06, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your reply. I apologize if my rather forceful request (“Name one”) came across as insulting. I did not assume anyone was imagining the problem; rather, I thought the previous requests for concrete examples had been ignored or overlooked (and if I overlooked prior examples that had been given, I apologize again). I can see how it might be taken as an “I don’t believe you, prove it,” but that wasn’t how I meant it.
I don’t think anyone is seriously suggesting we should list anything and everything that ever claims to be an award. Ideally, to me, we should list every award with a reliable secondary source, as long as this wouldn’t result in an unreasonably long list; this should prevent them from becoming too indiscriminate, I think.
Anyway, I’ll leave you alone and stop talking about this now. Take care. —174.141.182.82 (talk) 20:28, 10 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Duggar home location

[edit]

Hi Tenebrae, on the Duggar family, the address you have listed, from the tax records, is the trust fund address. The family home is about half a mile away. The physical house shows up clearly on Earth View, and Google Street View, so you can compare that house to known photos of the Duggar house and they are obviously the same home. The city of Springdale shows that location as being outside of the Springdale city limits, and places it inside of Tontitown per the zoning map here [7]; the 2013 aerial photos Springdale uses for zoning show the house as being beyond the Springdale city limits and clearly within Tontitown.

Now, I wish that was the end of it. You can find the same address listed as being in Tontitown on some sites and as being in Springdale on others (123 XYZ Rd Tontitown, AR 72762 vs 123 XYZ Rd Springdale, AR 72762) If you enter the address as Springdale, Google will convert it over to Tontitown, as will one national real estate site. The Zip code is Springdale, although where I live we have overlapping zip codes, so I would not count that one way or another. The House itself is specifically tagged on Google as being in Tontitown; however, the businesses near the house are tagged as being in Springdale. So I am throwing my hands up. Actually one site lists the dad as having been a Senate candidate from Tontitown, but lists his address as being Springdale, and not Tontitown. Go figure. I got my information from TV Guides, New York Times and New York Magazine. I have a TV Guide New York City edition (September 25 - Oct. 1, 1982) edition that has Joya's Fun School airing on Friday, October 1 at 2pm. You have it ending October 1980. It continued to air on Fridays until Oct. 1, 1982. On Saturday, Oct. 9 it started airing at 6am until November 27, 1982. The final airing on WPIX was Saturday, November 27, 1982. I made the correction, but it wasn't accepted, i.e., it reverted to a prior version, undoubtedly because I was not a verifiable source. And since you seem to be The Expert, I hoped to verify said correction through you, since I cannot seem to figure out the complicated hoops one must leap through in order to acquire one's bona fides. Not that the correction is a big deal or essential, but I like my Wiki info to be as accurate as possible -- that's what makes it a dependable resource! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Laflines (talkcontribs) 02:28, 15 July 2015 (UTC) (Sorry I forgot to sign off. Hey Tenebrae. Are you able to procure the cast list from the credits for the film, as you've done in the past with some films? If so, I'm just curious for the order and how some people are listed. Thanks. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 22:53, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hey, Tenebrae! If you have the time, could you help me clean out some draft pages that I have pending? Beth Sotelo and David Morgan-Mar are the only ones I have that are directly related to comics, but anything you could do for any of the pages at User:BOZ/Draft pages to help get them ready for mainspace would help a ton. Hi Tenebrae, I just located another Toonopedia archive that you may with to add to your index. I was going to add it there for you but couldn't decide where on the page you would want it.

Also, I require the archive of the Harvey Kurtzman page but I don't think it has been archived yet; do you know how to do that? Thanks. Prhartcom (talk) 17:24, 30 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you need to have it saved, I could send it to you by mail, or tell me where to put it. Ping me xsergan at gmail if you like. It's just the zip archive, the pages won't be publicly available like you do with webcitations, but at least you won't have to worry that the site is down.

I got your message on your proposed deletion of the Utah Film Critics Association Awards page. The only source I had was IMDb; the funny thing is that the Utah critics do not have their own website yet.

Recognizing that Utah is the only American Film Critic Association organization that does not have a page on Wikipedia, I felt compelled to create one. In retrospect, however, I should not have done so, because of lack of strong sources.

Now, I would like to have the page deleted, if you would do the honors. Thanks, Spencer Higham

Red Wolf response

[edit]

When it came to Red Wolf, there was no reference left after his history in "1872" with that mini-series being part of the Secret Wars storyline. Even though the mini-series doesn't reveal which Indian tribe this Red Wolf is a member of, the part with him being saved from Mayor Wilson Fisk's men by Sheriff Steve Rogers should've remained. I originally had to put this one's history somewhere ever since some of the editors had removed all the sub-plots with "1872" being one of them. --Rtkat3 (talk) 12:17, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That was what happened in issue 1 of the mini-series 1872. The references still could've been left there. --Rtkat3 (talk) 14:27, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your revert

[edit]

The purpose of what I did with the edit was not to be "Marvel Press Agent" as you claimed, but it's pretty clear to me that the paragraph was meant to be from Marvel's PoV if it's written as "Marvel counts among its characters etc etc". And what do you mean by "long stable version"? Was there an established consensus among editors in the past for who was to be listed in that paragraph to begin with, or simply because no one bothered to challenge the content, change or edit it? Because I've checked the history, and it's quite clear to me that editors have been adding or subtracting from that list for years. I know this because I have made additions without having it be reverted? Don't think it's a bit arbitrary for you to revert back to a version which is very likely to be based on original research, as opposed to what I did when I actually added sources referencing no other then the offical website of the publisher itself? • Brilliant! Damn, you're a good researcher! I know Baron Mooch doesn't have his own article, so do you think there's room for adding this image to the Herriman page, captioning it with the date? And then — not to call them out on it, by any means, but just to help prevent the wrong date from continuing to be disseminated — I think we should add a footnote saying Harvey and Markstein give an erroneous date of Nov. 1. As long as we keep it to a footnote, I think we're accomplishing due diligence. Also, having both well-respected historians Harvey and Markstein in the footnote shows that the error is a common one and helps explain away Nov. 1 appearing elsewhere. What do you think?--Tenebrae (talk) 17:22, 22 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Infobox errors

[edit]

Thank you for your message and the compliment. :)

The marriage template does allow for the dates to be read, as can be seen when you hover the cursor over the year. The template is just showing it in a concise manner. It's actually the default if you were to just put "{{Template:Marriage}}": the date would at first appear as "m. 2015", but if you hovered over the date it would give you the date that was imputed into the template. Ex.:

(date missing)

. This is why the dotted lines appear underneath the "m." and the given year. This is how the template page tells users to input the marriage info]. I actually only recently figured this out, so I know it's not necessarily immediately obvious if you're not looking for it. The use of the dates for this can be seen on a number of notable pages, such as those of European royal families, etc. Perhaps it's a topic for discussion on the template's talk page? I've checked and I don't see any discussion on it so far. ~ Iamthecheese44 (talk) 05:58, 13 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You can blank the page all you want, but the deleted posts are still readily available by clicking on this page's History links. Your edits at Kim Zolciak viiolate, as previously noted, both WP:BLP and WP:SYNTH. You simply cannot keep violating two of Wikipedia's core policies. You clearly seem to have an ax to grind, and so I've asked an admin to protect the page from anon IP edits. If you continue to make these uncited, POV edits, I will ask an admin to block this IP from editing. Hi, just to let you know that the introduction of a tracking code in the URL was merely accidental (talking about edit on Adams article).

Apart from that, your tone in the edit summary was a bit rough (I'm probably sensible, but it was my impression). Regards, Fma12 (talk) 11:40, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Fma12. I apologize if I sounded harsh; I certainly didn't mean to. If it's any consolation, to save time I often use pre-set edit summaries for certain edits that I've found are best explained so as, ironically, not to offend other editors. I think if you look at it that way, you can see how my summary — "Everything in Wikipedia is announced or revealed -- we don't have to say 'it was revealed...' Also, no need for tracking code in URL — was meant to be just factual and straightforward. Nonetheless, the last thing I want to do is be off-putting to good fellow editors like yourself. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:34, 17 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Please explain the rationale behind the reversion. My small addition concerned something which was on-screen, and I felt it necessary as I was puzzled by the sequence when I first watched the film. Thanks for your attention to these edits. This behavior has been going on for several weeks, so I don't expect it to stop today. If you could keep an eye on things, it would be much appreciated. 32.218.46.251 (talk) 21:07, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I need your help to resolve a debate

[edit]

I am currently engaged in what appears to be an edit war with User:Oknazevad over the plot summary for Star Wars: The Force Awakens after said user reverted my original edit (sans some details from the previous version). We are currently debating the matter here, and I'm trying my best to convey what I believe constitutes as a suitable plot summary, but I feel it isn't enough. Would you be willing to join the discussion? User:Immblueversion (talk) 23:58, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks a bunch! Here's a Barnstar!

[edit]
The Minor Barnstar
Minor edits are fer sure often-overlooked! So I wanted to thank you for the diligence of doing the detail work even if it's as simple as adding commas as in Star Wars: The Force Awakens or tidying this encyclopedia up! Spread the WikiLove by wishing another user a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past, a good friend, or just some random person. Spread the love by adding {{subst:Seasonal Greetings}} to other user talk pages.

Merry Christmas!

[edit]

I'm wishing you a Merry Christmas, because that is what I celebrate. If you don't like Christmas or just don't celebrate it in any of its forms, then please accept a generic "Happy Holidays". If you celebrate no holidays at this time of year, then hopefully you will be satisfied with an even more generic "Season's Greetings".  :) BOZ (talk) 18:58, 24 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation to an RfC

[edit]

This is a neutral notice for you to join an RfC at Star Wars: The Force Awakens given your work at the Film project. The RfC is regarding if a title including "Episode VII" should be considered an alternate title to the film. The RfC can be found here. - Favre1fan93 (talk) 18:41, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Poppy Harlow--apparent confusion

[edit]

I have no idea what your message to me is about. The only change I made to the Poppy Harlow article was to revert a blanking of the page by an IP user to the prior unvandalized version. If it appears that I did something else, I have no explanation for the glitch and I'm honestly not even sure what your criticism means. My apologies for any misunderstanding. I do note that my userpage has been recently vandalized by an IP user. Julietdeltalima (talk) 20:37, 28 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, that actually (sort of) explains the weird thing that happened. I got a message upon saving the reversion that the article had already been changed in the interim and that the reversion was thus being cancelled, and was then surprised when my reversion showed up in the edit history as the most recent version anyway. All this must have happened practically simultaneously. Rest assured I was only intending to deal with the blanking of the article! Thanks for helping figure this out. Batman

[edit]

Can you please weigh in on the Live-adaptations discussion on the Batman talk page? The discussion is whether or not David Mazouz should be included in one the lead paragraphs as an actor who has played Batman. I have argued against his name being listed, since this is a child actor who plays a young Bruce Wayne in the TV series Gotham and has never played the costumed superhero Batman. I believe he should be mentioned in the body of the article, but not in a lead paragraph.DrRNC (talk) 21:27, 31 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
