Speedy deletion nomination of Category:2021 in bandy
A tag has been placed on Category:2021 in bandy indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself. Liz Read! Majavahbot on SqWiki
Hey there! Some months ago we set up your bot to work on SqWiki. It works very good. Today I discovered "a problem" though. Check this article's talk page and it's archive. The bot has done its archiving work but has left those discussions un-archived at the page, even though they date since 2009. The reason for that I believe it is because those are malformed, at least, according to MajavahBot's standards. Any chance MajavahBot can be tweaked to understand cases like this or is there no hope at all? - Klein Muçi (talk) 07:21, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi Hi! I unfortunately don't think there is any easy way to get those automated given how different and ambigous the old section formats are. Majavah (talk!) 16:27, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, I understand. It would be nice if we could have a "miscellaneous section" in the archive for cases like these and put them all there but the difficulty remains on telling the bot how to find the parts to put there in the first place, as you say. I was thinking if we could have a semi-automatic way for that, for example we give the wikilink to the bot somehow and it archives everything on that page beside the archive/bot header but I don't think that's a think that can be done easily no? - Klein Muçi (talk) 23:02, 3 September 2021 (UTC)
- Or maybe.... I was still thinking on this... If we're feeling adventurous, we can make the bot auto-archive everything it can't really understand below a certain standardized mark, into a miscellaneous section. Maybe? :/ - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:55, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Reply-link officially superseded by DiscussionTools
Hi! Reply-link has officially been superseded by mw:DiscussionTools, which you can install using the "Discussion tools" checkbox under Preferences → Beta features. DiscussionTools, developed by the WMF's Editing Team, is faster and has more features than reply-link, and it wouldn't make sense for me to keep developing reply-link. I think the Editing Team is doing amazing work, and look forward to what they can do in the future. Thank you for using reply-link over the years! Enterprisey (talk!) 06:11, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
New Page Patrol newsletter September 2021
Hello Taavi,
Please join this discussion - there is increase in the abuse of Wikipedia and its processes by POV pushers, Paid Editors, and by holders of various user rights including Autopatrolled. Even our review systems themselves at AfC and NPR have been infiltrated. The good news is that detection is improving, but the downside is that it creates the need for a huge clean up - which of course adds to backlogs.
Copyright violations are also a serious issue. Most non-regular contributors do not understand why, and most of our Reviewers are not experts on copyright law - and can't be expected to be, but there is excellent, easy-to-follow advice on COPYVIO detection here.
At the time of the last newsletter (#25, December 2020) the backlog was only just over 2,000 articles. New Page Review is an official system. It's the only firewall against the inclusion of new, improper pages.
There are currently 706 New Page Reviewers plus a further 1,080 admins, but as much as nearly 90% of the patrolling is still being done by around only the 20 or so most regular patrollers.
If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process or its software.
Various awards are due to be allocated by the end of the year and barnstars are overdue. If you would like to manage this, please let us know. Indeed, if you are interested in coordinating NPR, it does not involve much time and the tasks are described here.
To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here. Sent to 827 users. 04:32, 16 September 2021 (UTC)

Majavahbot on SqWiki - Autoarchive
Hello!
This page you've set up works as a switch for the auto-archive option on the mainspace. Can the said option be activated for other namespaces? Say, for example, the "Wikipedia" and "Template" talk namespaces? Can that be part of the switch itself so we can add and remove namespaces as we see fit?
Side question: Do you have any idea why our archive icon is behaving strange at w:sq:Wikipedia:Kuvendi? Any idea how to fix it? - Klein Muçi (talk) 14:41, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi Sure, done. Turns out I can't edit the config page yourself, but something like this should work on the next run. Majavah (talk!) 16:38, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for the fast answer! - Klein Muçi (talk) 17:14, 11 October 2021 (UTC)
- Given that this was fairly easy, is it possible to have the possibility of customizing bot summary messages in that page as well? - Klein Muçi (talk) 05:13, 12 October 2021 (UTC)
- If that's not possible, can you remove the "MajavahBot:" part for us in the summary so it starts straight with the message? The one which I personally asked to be included in the past. Times have changed and we're renovating some aspects about bots in general. But it would be nice if we could have a sort of autonomy in these details. :) - Klein Muçi (talk) 15:34, 17 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi You can configure the edit summary for automated setup like this. Fully on-wiki config for edit summaries for the archiving itself needs more programming work, I'll try to find time for that in the near future but for now I removed the hack which appends MajavahBot in there. Majavah (talk!) 18:35, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! :) Tell me if you find the time for that so I make the needed change. Have a good time! :) Klein Muçi (talk) 21:58, 24 October 2021 (UTC)
- @Klein Muçi You added a syntax error in this edit, you added a duplicate closing bracket to "autosetup_namespaces". It only needs to have only one
]
and it needs one,
after it. Majavah (talk!) 07:36, 25 October 2021 (UTC)- Thanks for telling me. Fixed now, no? - Klein Muçi (talk) 09:36, 25 October 2021 (UTC)

MajavahBot - "Block" column request - allow sorting by date
Hi @Majavah:, great bot "User:MajavahBot/Bot status report". Wondering if the Block column can be changed slightly to "Last block (UTC)" and the cell data lead with the block date? This would allow seeing the latest blocks easily using the sort icon. I don't think separate columns for block reason, blocked by, block type, etc. are needed as there are few and infrequent blocks. Also would you consider donating it to the appropriate WP section? Cheers, Facts707 (talk) 15:06, 16 November 2021 (UTC)

I noticed at one point that the items on Template:Botnav are in the Wikipedia or Help or Template namespaces - "MajavahBot" seems to be the only one in the User namespace. Majavahbot's fail
Take a look at this enormous diff. First time archiving that page in ages. Some sections are left behind by Majavahbot. They have signatures and good section formatting. What's causing it to fail archiving them? - Klein Muçi (talk) 10:23, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! The remaining sections either don't have signatures, have them in the wrong language (en instead of sq) or otherwise have a malformed signature (even things like upper/lowercase month names matter). Majavah (talk!) 18:55, 14 December 2021 (UTC)

MajavahBot - Resolved template
Hello!
Currently MajavahBot on SqWiki autoarchives discussions which have more than a specific period without any interaction. Can it also be made to archive a thread faster than the said period once a certain template is introduced, like for example, the template {{Resolved}}? Can that functionality be (almost) global (the bot autoarchives threads immediately in every page that template is introduced) or should it be locally fine-tuned per page? - Klein Muçi (talk) 01:27, 14 February 2022 (UTC)

Bot adding wrong pages to WP:EFFP reports without one
Hey! I noticed that all of the sudden, twice in a row, the bot added the wrong page to the report at WP:EFFPR with no clear reason as to why. Both times, the user making the report didn't trigger any other filters so it definitely wasn't somehow pulling the page from an older filter trigger. ― Blaze WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 01:19, 18 March 2022 (UTC)

while we are at it, is there any way to avoid particular text being edited by bot? I use mw:Manual:Pywikibot/replace.py on Marathi wiki (mrwiki) for a task something like typos (but not exactly typos). There are a lot of pages where the bot is needed, but on the same pages, there are certain words which should not be replaced. So {{nobots}} is not an option. I was thinking about nowiki tags, but it wouldn't be usable everywhere. Is it possible to create "nobot", "/nobot" tags? They should literally do nothing except for telling the bot not to edit the stuff between the tags. —usernamekiran (talk) 17:21, 13 April 2022 (UTC)
- @Usernamekiran, thank you! Apparently I weren't on that grid. As for your question, can't you sort that aspect out with regex? - Klein Muçi (talk) 22:38, 13 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi, your script only appears on the edit form if you don't click either "show preview" or "show changes". This is because the response to mw.config.get("wgAction") after these actions is "submit" instead of "edit". If you change the follow line in your script from
if (mw.config.get('wgAction') !== 'edit') {
to
if (mw.config.get('wgAction') !== 'edit') && (mw.config.get('wgAction') !== 'submit'){
that will fix it. I'd really appreciate if you could make this change as sometimes I'll run some other scripts first which automatically view the diffs after and that stops your script from even being available to run. Mesidast (talk) (contribs) 15:55, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Aligner.js on wp.fr ?
Hello Taavi.
I tried to install tour Aligner.js script on my fr:Utilisateur:SyntaxTerror/common.js, cleared the cache, but it doesn't seem to work. (I have nothing in my "More" menu)
I am using Vector 2010 if it matters.
Have you got any hint?

Task 3 source code uses deprecated center tags
Hello, your source code for MajavahBot task 3 uses deprecated center tags, which are causing obsolete HTML tags Linter errors.
You are encouraged to replace <center>—</center>

Quick concern re: MajavahBot
I'm not sure that the bot should copy user-generated section titles in its edit summaries. This seems like it might be vulnerable to some sort of attack related to the use of inappropriate or privacy-violating section titles. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 21:42, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
- @Red-tailed hawk Fair point, I've went ahead and adjusted the summary generating code to not include the actual section titles. Thanks. Taavi (talk!) 21:25, 26 February 2023 (UTC)

MajavahBot Task 1 down?
Hi Taavi, is MajavahBot Task 1 down, because there has been an absence of archiving since the 17th April, and there hasn't been much clerking happening from MajavahBot. Thanks, Zippybonzo | Talk (he|him) 15:37, 21 April 2023 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Disease outbreaks in Vanuatu
A tag has been placed on Category:Disease outbreaks in Vanuatu indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion. If it remains empty for seven days or more, it may be deleted under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". Is this intended behaviour?
In diff:1161028592, at the very bottom, the bot adds a template that says it fixed the page title of the report. It obviously did not do that, as there was not even a report, just random characters. Is that the "notify" behaviour mentioned in item a) of User:MajavahBot? – 2804:F14:80B3:CB01:9C5E:86B:78D9:3A49 (talk) 05:31, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
- This is a pretty classic GIGO case. I'll patch the bot at some point to not leave a comment if it can't add the page title, but it's not a particularly severe bug. Taavi (talk!) 11:54, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
Odd edit by bot
I'm looking at this edit, and I think the bot erroneously marked the edit as fixed (the edit summary included the claim that the bot added the affected page name, but it does not appear to have done so). The edit was very broken to begin with, but just wanted to let you know. — Red-tailed hawk (nest) 14:06, 25 June 2023 (UTC)

Bot down?
Not sure if you were already told or noticed, but MajavahBot appears to be unresponsive. It has not been archiving or commenting on any WP:EF/FP/R report since around ~19 hours ago (15:29, 11 July 2023 UTC), although it did edit its Bot status report page 2 hours later. – 2804:F14:8087:2401:A9B4:1D32:7E56:C04B (talk) 10:28, 12 July 2023 (UTC)

Interesting Edit on TrueNAS
For some reason the version table was removed from this page. It was cited as not idependently sourced but it was sourced directly from their documentation.
In the case of this being a conflict, who would be best to source this information? A different site that is forwarded a list of version changes from iX themselves rather than directly the documentation that iXsystems puts together?
I am at a loss here on how this is considered "not based on independent sources"? Is the official documentation not considered a source of truth?|
Furthermore, how is the version release that lists fixing bugs that prevents users from using certain elements considered "promotional"? Wsoteros (talk) 19:38, 25 August 2023 (UTC)
- Hi, Wsoteros. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information: we cover topics that reliable, independent (not: the company itself) sources cover, so I removed the changelog section as it was only sourced to the TrueNAS site itself. If you look at macOS Sonoma for example, you can see that it's mostly sourced to various tech publications and not Apple itself, so including that level of detail about that version is fine. If iXsystems wants to publish the full changelog somewhere they can do it on their own website for example. Taavi (talk!) 11:10, 29 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply and my apologies for the frustration.
- We will stick to those guidelines for future edits. Wsoteros (talk) 14:08, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

Can UTRS support the Chinese Wikipedia?
(mechine translate) Hello, I am a contributor to the Chinese Wikipedia.
As you may know, due to internet censorship by the government of China Mainland , people there have to use technical means, including open proxies, to access and edit Wikimedia projects. Therefore, IPBE are necessary for them.
We are currently discussing changes to the application process for IPBE in order to address the growing backlog of applications. Prior to this, the Chinese Wikipedia used an email list to handle applications, but some administrators found it to be cumbersome and inefficient. Someone noticed that UTRS supports other wikis, so I am asking if it can support the blocking process for the Chinese Wikipedia.
Can UTRS grant IPBE? Can it create new accounts? Can it grant permissions in bulk?
12138 (talk) 05:44, 21 January 2024 (UTC)
- @落花有意12138 Hi! Unfortunately I have not been involved with UTRS in a few years. /cc AmandaNP. Taavi (talk!) 17:09, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
- @落花有意12138: It currently is not able to automate onwiki granting because the functionality has not been built simply because it hasn't been needed and has accountability issues. By extension it can't create accounts yet either. -- Amanda (she/her) 01:49, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
