Darren Mack image

Yes, Image:Darren Mack.jpg should be undeleted. The image is irreplaceable because he is incarcerated, serving life sentence. I found the image here. Reverend X (talk) 18:15, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Delete warnings

Doesn't seem like you are giving any warning before deleting images. Maybe the uploader is getting one. One of the bots gave warnings on the article talk pages to give others a chance to fix license issues. -Fnlayson (talk) 18:54, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

Possible sock puppet

Hi, you blocked User:86.29.132.226 for very offensive vandalism. On that IP's talk page, User:Bsrboy made the exact same offensive vandalism and then undid it [1]. This has me suspecting that they might be the same person. Could you please check this? Thank you TheProf - T / C 22:19, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

User:Bsrboy also left a block notice on User talk:172.200.86.155 despite the fact he's not an admin and this IP user is not blocked, as you see here i removed it by blanking the page. As for the image problem, i'll remove it shortly :-) Thanks TheProf - T / C 22:32, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
I want to go offline soon, can you point out which part of Wikipedia:NFCC states a non-free image can't be used in user space? It'll save me some time! Cheers TheProf - T / C 22:36, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, i'll remove it now and go offline. Have a nice night :-) TheProf - T / C 22:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't know how.

I don't know how to scale down images on Wikipedia. The userboxes on my page are gigantic and I don't knowhow to scale them down because they take up too much room. Please respond,--RayquazaDialgaWeird2210 (talk) 13:28, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Deleted articles

Hi, I noticed that you deleted the articles Playboy's Top Party Schools 2002 and Playboy's Top Party Schools 2006 that I created (under a different user name). They were deleted through WP:PROD, but as far as I can see no warning was given to the creator. As the articles were both well written, formatted and sourced, I believe using PROD as opposed to WP:AFD was in error. I was going to put the articles up for deletion review, but I thought I'd contact you first to ask if you might restore the articles. If then you wish to nominate them for deletion, and let them go through the normal process of community debate, then that is fine with me.

Note that I am not interested in discussing the merits or viability of the articles with you through our respective talk pages, and will not engage in any such discussion. The reason for this is that I believe AfD is the correct forum for such a discussion, and to go through the arguments here would be redundant. Many thanks. Lampman Talk to me! 13:52, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your quick response. I actually thought about moving the lists over to Party school, which happens to be under AfD at the moment, so we'll see how it goes. Thanks anyway. Lampman Talk to me! 15:07, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

hello

Please let this free image, Image:Angel Locsin.jpg exist.Thankyou {Mhtsw (talk) 05:24, 16 April 2008 (UTC)}

I don't think so; I understand that you want to help, but you're doing it in a disruptive way in order to illustrate your point. Your fanaticism and fanboyism of Angel Locsin doesn't apply here, as Wikipedia editors are expected to provide neutral and favorable contributions, not turn the article into a fan site. Any more and a block, or worse, a ban can be imposed on you for your disruption. Thank you. Blake Gripling (talk) 05:57, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Livesky.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Livesky.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. NotifyBot (talk) 13:16, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

i just want to sincerely apologize for what happened in the neo steam article. my point in writing the article is to provide information regarding the said game and not to advertise it. i guess its in the manner on how the article was written. i hope i can still create the page so that everyone would know more about this game. i'm considering revising the whole article in order to comply with the rules of wikipedia. i hope you accept my apology. thanks

Query. Help Please

Hi Spellcast. I have this doubt in my head. I am currently working on Running (No Doubt song). I want to get the article to GA class. I tried my level best, but the article is very small. Its only 9,000 bytes long. The reason is that the song was very unsuccessful and on top of that, it was released in only two countries. As a result, it has hardly any chart activities as well. It was also the last single of the album. As a result, i am unable to make it longer. But i want to make it GA as it is the only article which is keeping Rock Steady from becoming a featured topic. My question is, can an article of this length become a GA?? I hope you can understand. Reply awaited. Thank you! Indianescence (talk) 18:11, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Thank you so much for your valueable advice. I have gained the confidence and have nominated the article. It would be a dream come true if Rock Steady becomes featured topic. Thank you once again. Indianescence (talk) 04:08, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
I had one more doubt (sorry). If you have a look at It's My Life (Talk Talk song), we see that the Talk Talk version part is very small and improper, but the No Doubt part is good enough (Thanks to Drew!). My doubt is, if a person has to get the article to GA, he has to write even the Talk Talk section? Don't you feel it is unfair as the original version is old and cannot be made very nice. It can become a disadvantage right? Indianescence (talk) 04:27, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
We can do that? Awesome. I thaught there was a rule which said that cover versions have to be on the same page as the original song. I think all cover version songs on wikipedia are on the same page as the original. I have come across many such articles. Indianescence (talk) 04:41, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
I had that misconception because of It's All Coming Back to Me Now, as i felt that all the three version are good enough to be seperate articles, but as they are cover versions, they are together. But now i know its not the case. Thanks a lot. Indianescence (talk) 04:58, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello, i have created a section on my userpage for other users to find administrators recommended by me. I would like you to add yourself to the list so it can have your unique signature! Thanks. As for Jennifer Lopez, I think [[Pop music|Pop]] will do. Any thoughts before I make the change? Lord Sesshomaru (talkedits) 00:13, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks you!

Your advice has been really helpful. Running (No Doubt song) has become GA and Rock Steady is up for Featured Topic Candidate.[2]. If it passes, then i am sure it will be Drew's dream come true. Right now, the process is going very slow, with only one support. Indianescence (talk) 05:45, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your support. I never knew that Featured Topic Candidates take so long. I am leaving wikipedia forever on 28th April. I hope it passes before that. God knows what will happen to Gwen Stefani and No Doubt articles, even Drew is not here. What would hurt the most is that some editors would keep on vandalizing the articles and one fine day the articles would be up for "Removal of Featured Status". I think that was meant to happen. Indianescence (talk) 11:42, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
I think you're right. I may come back, but not majorly, that is for sure. Indian Education system is one of the toughest and keeps you horribly occupied. I can come back maybe when i get married and have a job! But till i am studying, i see very less chances. On top of that i am studying for entering Indian Institute of Technology, which requires my 100% time. Good things in life have to wait in front of the better things. Thus, wikipedia has to stay away till i have IIT. Well, thank you and all the best if your life too. Cheers. Bye. Keep up your good work. Indianescence (talk) 15:13, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
Thank you so much. I really need those good lucks. Its a mad scramble for IIT. 350,000 students fight for 5,500 seats every year, and i am also one of those. Wikipedia has been a nice journey. But i am sure i will be able to come here once in a month to see whats going around. All the best in life to you too. Hoping to see you soon here. Real life caught me and arrested too! Byez. Protection of Singapore article

Greetings! I saw that you had previously protected the Singapore article against non-admin moves indefinitely. The article text is also being vandalized on an ongoing basis, so edit protection was warranted. I don't like the idea of an indefinite protection there, so I set it for a six week protection (edit=autoconfirmed, move=sysop). That also means that your move protection will expire after six weeks.

I felt the text protection warranted immediate action. If you think the protection needs modified to provide additional coverage against moves, please let me know. —C.Fred (talk) 00:10, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Wallace Collins, Esq. Deletion

I believe you have not and did not research this individual completely or correctly as per your comments. He is a Lawyer and My Lawyer and i am very happy with what he has done for me and that is why i entered him in this Wikipedia, because i believed he deserved it and he is a recording artist

As far as his being a recording artist : His band was THE DYNOMITERS They were featured in 16 Magazine and other teen magazines and got press in the trades we were signed to Epic Records in 76 the most notable song was "Rock & Roll President"

I have read your Comments and reasons for deletion and find them to be prejurative and unfair this was neither Spam or Advertising he has done many cases and made Copyright Law. It is very easy to Spout nonsense and vitriol under an assumed id, i ask that you read the sources that he has on his page and if The NY TImes and Post and DMA and various industry pubs are not good enough for you then i do not understand.

See below:

His Notability is evident in that he has been cited in Major Newspaper and Music Trade Pubs, and he has made case Law in the Copyright and Trademark arenas.

Please look at his page if i did it wrong then i need someone to put a Wikipedia page up that knows what they are doing this is all very confusing to me.

Under his legal victories you can see the articles that have been reported on him such as; http://www.wallacecollins.com/la.html

Its completely pointless as to why you reverted it back. I reverted it back so that reviews such as XXL and The Source will be shown. What was the point of deleting what i did? Your the one who was not constructive in point of that situation. You should read it first before making such false claims. Thanks. --76.67.75.140 (talk) 02:21, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

Album Reviews

The standard listed at wikiproject albums is unnecessarily broad, and there are generally enough reviews to sites that are both reliable and notable to justify (IMO) removal of sites that don't fit both criteria. I can only think of one case where my removal of nn sites left an article with no reviews at all, and I'll refrain from doing that in the future. I know Sputnikmusic is OK, and I leave that one alone; if I removed any links to there it was by accident. I will admit, though, that it bugs me that they don't merit a wikipedia article and yet are specifically listed at wikiproject albums. 66.93.12.46 (talk) 01:53, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

I have started a discussion about what constitutes a review worthy of inclusion at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Albums, and I would be interested to hear your thoughts. 66.93.12.46 (talk) 03:48, 30 May 2008 (UTC)

Awards

I'm a little puzzled about the rationale given for removing factual reference to awards won from the lead of film actors. You cited WP:APT, which does not address the inclusion of factual awards, so I am at a loss as to how that is a peacock term. The generic use of "award-winning" may be using peacock term, but that is a non-specific reference. The other cite was for MOS:FILM, which is actually a WP:WikiProject Films style guideline, which covers inclusion in film articles, not biographies of actors. Actors are a function of WP:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers under WP:WikiProject Biography, neither of which address the inclusion of specific awards in the lead of a film actor's biography at all, much less include a directive against it. Wildhartlivie (talk) 04:43, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

I've looked over the WT:Neutral point of view/Archive 29#POV in first sentence? and I don't honestly see that a consensus was formed that this is an unacceptable inclusion. There was a lot of discussion, and many points were raised on both sides, but I saw no decision that it should be removed. One point in the NPOV discussion stood out to me: "Featured articles are considered to be the best articles in Wikipedia, as determined by Wikipedia's editors. Before being listed here, articles are reviewed at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates for accuracy, neutrality, completeness, and style according to our featured article criteria." Bette Davis is a featured article, featured on the main page on April 5, and in anticipation of that was intensely gone over by FA committee members to assure it still met the criteria. The statement wasn't contested. I recognize that this is your viewpoint, but I'm not convinced it implies bias, and a style guideline determination by a project that doesn't govern this particular category doesn't, to me, mandate its applicability elsewhere. I noticed in the discussion that someone raised the question of someone like Carl Lewis, whose article also includes his awards in the lead sentence. In the case of Davis, the awards and nominations were won, but they also function to define her as one of the most prominently accoladed actresses. Your example of Carmen Electra is humorous, but I'd point out that winning Academy Awards requires a great deal more consensus of the acting community than an award that was conceived by a small number of people intended to be an insult. What distinguishes Davis' career from that of, for example, Joan Davis, as a film, television and stage actress, is the awards. Wildhartlivie (talk) 05:34, 31 May 2008 (UTC)

Copy-edit

Hi Spellcast, I was wondering if you could help me out ? I've seen you do some copy-edits before and was hoping you could do one on the Doggystyle ? A user has requested it at the FAC and I doubt it'll pass before it receives one. A partial list of what has to be changed is on FAC page, but I think the article would need a complete copy-edit to be up to standards. I don't know if your a big copy-editor or whatever, but I think you would really help the page, since you seem to know what to look for. Please get back to me soon :) Thanks in advance. - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 14:50, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the help man, I really appreciate it - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 20:37, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Hi again, (don't worry, it's not another copy-edit request) I was just wanting to ask you something. Your a member of Wikiproject Hip hop right ? I was thinking that all the current hip hop editors should try to get together and try to make the project active again. There's alot of people who I think could contribute to the project and get more hip hop-related articles to GA and FA, we just need to get these users to work on something together. I was personally thinking of restarting the member list because most of the people on it aren't editing anymore or just don't contribute to the project any longer (not to mention the page is a right mess), but I wanted other people to agree with that decision before I go around making massive changes to a WikiProject. Also, I was thinking of changing the current collabo because i'm pretty sure on-one is working together to improve Rapping, or even willing to. I think an album that everybody loves would be our best bet. I mean, when the project started they got Illmatic to FA, so it shows people can work together to get a hip hop album article up to the highest standards. What do you think ? - Guerilla In Tha Mist (talk) 22:05, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

Why did you remove "Academy Award-winning" from Cate Blanchett's article? I put that there because from what I can see that is the format for any Academy Award winning or nominated actor on Wikipedia. It wasn't a matter of repetition, as that is the summarization of the subject or person, and I personally look there to see if the actor in question has won or been nominated. As I stated in the edit summary, the contents from the Pitchfork review are already included in the article's "Critical response". Enough ratings are listed in the infobox as it is, with Pitchfork being a secondary or not as notable publication. NSR77 TC 16:31, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Do you, honestly, feel it is absolutely essential to include it? No. Naerii and I, who brought this article to Featured status, both agreed that it should remain rather small and down to the most notable publications. This is such a trivial issue. Turkey City Writer's Workshop

Why did you delete the page for this workshop, given that it is, in fact, very well known, many famous science fiction writers (Bruce Sterling, Howard Waldrop) are members, and there are now numerous red links from their pages? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.136.25.72 (talk) 17:30, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

The Sinus Show

Why was this deleted? It was an article about a well known Austin Texas Comedy troupe that was involved with Best Brains (creators/owners of Mystery Science Theater 3000). It was notable, and was deleted for no reason. Please undelete this promptly. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Indecks (talkcontribs)

Help reverting deletion you proposed

Hi, I am the original creator of the page still visible in the Google cache.

However, I have been living outside my everyday home (I had to relocate temporarily to follow medical care for my newborn son), so I did not notice earlier that that page ("Purgatório") had been submitted for deletion.

To add "insult to injury", I do not have my user password now, and wikipedia says the following when I try to request a new password: "Error sending mail: There is no e-mail address recorded for user "Andabata"."

Since you were the one that caused the deletion of that page, can you help me? My e-mail is (I am inserting dashes to avoid spam bots, in case this ends up in a public page):

l-e-o-n-e-l-m-@-u-t-a-d-.-p-t

Please do not reply on my Talk page, since I will only be able to login in September.

Sincerely,
Andabata

Welcome??????????????/

I don't know how to take your welcome. You welcome me but then you went to an administrator and requested my USERPage be deleted without even sending me any messages about it if you felt that my was at issue. I left your friend a message....as well. You all seem to be a bit on the unfriendly side. As I stated to your friend i have no problems with being corrected but to just assume things and report without even talking to me doesn't foster a positive atmosphere where people can contribute freely within the guidelines. Re: XxJoshuaxX

Concerning the blocking of this user - I can't see the evidence because I'm not an admin, so I'm wondering if a checkuser will be run or not? I ask because there's another editor who seemed unusually supportive of XxJoshuaxX, and has been doing much the same kind of edits (title capitalization, moving a lot of music-related pages for trivial reasons), and I wonder if this editor might be another sock?

If this none of my damned business, please feel free to tell me so. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 22:27, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

HostForWeb Block

Hi... that HostForWeb block is a little excessive. They only have 205.234.128.0/23, but you blocked 205.234.128.0/17. Can you prune that back? I can't edit from work now.—Chowbok 22:16, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

Ah, I see the problem. You're under the impression that ServerCentral and HostForWeb are the same company. They're not; ServerCentral is just HostForWeb's upstream provider (and the upstream for lots of other companies); they're not a webhosting company. Those IPs are HostForWeb's. Can you change the block to just HostForWeb's allocations? Here they are:
  • 205.234.128.0/23
  • 205.234.132.0/24
  • 205.234.134.0/24
  • 205.234.136.0/22
  • 205.234.140.0/23
  • 205.234.144.0/23
  • 205.234.146.0/24
  • 205.234.163.0/24
  • 205.234.186.0/23
  • 205.234.198.0/24
  • 205.234.201.0/24
  • 205.234.212.0/23
  • 205.234.214.0/23
  • 205.234.222.0/23
  • 205.234.232.0/24
  • 205.234.234.0/23
  • 205.234.253.0/24
Thanks...—Chowbok 16:25, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'm at 205.234.237.186. If you could un-block it, that'd be great. I still think the /17 block is excessive, though.—Chowbok 17:11, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Thanks! I only edit through this account, I never do IP edits. I was kinda surprised when I couldn't edit, since I didn't think IP blocks affected registered users, but I guess it's different for proxy blocks? Anyway, I had to log in to my home PC remotely to message you. Appreciate your help.—Chowbok 17:41, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

proxies

Hello Spellcast.

I have recently become interested in blocking open proxies. However, I don't think that I know very much about the subject.

Currently, when I block proxies, I log out of my account from Firefox and log into my account from Safari. I then look at the list here and configure Firefox to connect via proxy using the IP addresses listed, one by one. After saving my settings in Firefox, I check to see if I can view webpages. If I can view pages, I go to Special:Mytalk to double-check that it is not my own IP address. If everything is in order, I block the IP from Safari and then add {{blockedproxy}} to the talk page using the proxy in Firefox.

Is this method overly labor-intensive? Is there an easier way to do this?

I am currently testing IPs for open proxies on ports 80, 200, 3128, 6588, 8000 and 8080. Are there any more ports that I should be trying?

Thanks for your time, J.delanoygabsadds 15:27, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

If I can access https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/wiki/Main_Page with a proxy, should I block it? J.delanoygabsadds 15:35, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Hello, I see you have bumped into this editor some time ago looking at his/her block log. Can I just say, this editor is one of the most annoying I have come across. Unfortunately I happen to watchlist some of the articles he/she tampers with. Jamalar is an obsessive music genre changer on albums and artists. Jamalar does not us edit summaries or talk pages to build consensus for his/her point of view. Warnings are removed in bulk, making it difficult to see the full extent of the months long disruption. I also strongly believe he/she is doing it when not signed in too. There is one IP range that has a very similar editing pattern to Jamalar. I would appreciate it if you could do an extensive review of Jamalar's contributions and review removed warnings on his/her page. Thank you. — Realist2 17:03, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Cheers, the IP ranges begin 87.196. .... They edit the same articles as Jamalar and are obsessive genre changers too. Even if they aren't his/her IP's, Jamalars actions have still been highly disruptive. Thank you. — Realist2 23:58, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
As a heads up Jamalar is still changing genres passed on her/his pov. — Realist2 18:04, 20 August 2008 (UTC)
User:87.196.6.108, User:87.196.214.79, User:87.196.144.26 and User:87.196.46.128 are a few examples. There are many more, you can see probably most of them by going back in the edit history of the Loose (album). I haven't seen them there as much recently, maybe they are Jamalar, maybe they are not. My major concern is Jamalar him/her self. Cheers, sorry for delay. — Realist2 18:58, 21 August 2008 (UTC)

Cheers, but Jamalar and her "contributions" are still at it. She is reverting or even rollbacking editors with a lot more experienced than her (people who actually know how the genre template is meant to work). This has got to stop, she won't do it voluntarily and never discusses anything. Could you at the very least warn her if your not prepared to wield the ban hammer? :-O. This IP User:86.25.51.104 recently blanked Jamalars talk page. Jamalar hasn't reverted the IP and they both edit the same-ish articles. More than likely this is Jamalars IP, who knows what it holds. — Realist2 14:26, 30 August 2008 (UTC)

Thank you, this has been a long overdue block (not your fault, I and others should have been more pro-active in stopping this). I fully expect her to continue this as she usually wins an argument through sheer determination. If I see it again I won't hesitate to contact you. I won't monitor the IP's as it's too much hastile, but I'm watching Jamalar like a hawk until she learns. Thank you for taking action. — Realist2 13:32, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

You can probably add User talk:86.29.252.104 to this list as well. Recently active on Gwen Stefani. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 07:26, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Done. See the talk page. The Bookkeeper (of the Occult) 08:11, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Jamalar is STILL using this IP. Enough is enough. She used the IP on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of September, effectively the block on her account was useless. More needs to be done to stop this. — Realist2 19:26, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Thinks have gotten a little more confusing. The story thickens. here. — Realist2 19:52, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanx for upgrading the block, it seems that Jamalar uses IP's that begin with 86. so if we see any that are editing music articles in that fashion we know it's Jamalar. The block extends and the IP is blocked too. I'm sure Jamalar is smart enough to catch on eventually. — Realist2 22:32, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Another IP of Jamalar's, arbitrarily changing genres. Is it time for a range block? — Realist2 17:43, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Could Jamalar be so obsessed that she would travel to france I wonder? — Realist2 17:57, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

And another here. I think it's time for a range block of some sort? — Realist2 17:51, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Cheers, I'm trying to monitor the articles Jamalar edits. It's a shame Jamalar has had to behave like this. — Realist2 16:03, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Another here. Jamalar also made at least 2 new accounts today as well, which have been blocked. Is there no way to pin point where Jamalar is from and range block that place? Or is it a case of keep trying until we get the right one? I'm no expert on this IP stuff, although I have learnt a bit thanx to Jamalar lol. — Realist2 19:51, 21 September 2008 (UTC)

No, I'm not using the 222.127.x.x range; I had a photo of him in an Internet cafe, as taken from his Youtube account, which explains the multiple IPs. And since most ISPs here just pool addresses (via NAT or something), edits from one IP may be attributed to several users. Blocking of User:78.40.239.4

Hi,

Sorry I couldn't ask this earlier, but this all happened just as my lunch break finished, so I was unable to follow it up then. Work's over for now, so I now have chance to ask this. I'm still a fairly fresh from RFA, so please excuse me if I'm asking the obvious, but why did you block User:78.40.239.4? As I see it, this anon user has only carried out one item of vandalism since the block was lifted a month or so back [3]. This was reverted, and a final warning [4] was placed on the talk page. The user who placed the warning then immediately placed a report at AIV [5], which I looked in to. I suspect that you did so at the same time. I did not find any further evidence of vandalism since the one and only warning (which I felt was insufficient), so placed a comment on AIV stating so [6], and downgraded the warning on the IP's talk page, as this was the first offence since the block was lifted [7].

I was in the process of writing a note to the user who left the report, when I noticed that you had blocked IP for 2 years (I should point out that warning at the top of the IP's talk page does state "anonymous editing may be disabled for up to 1 year at a time"), so I didn't bother posting the note on the user's talk page. Instead, rather than reversing your block, I should check up with you as to why you blocked, in case I have missed something obvious. BTW, if the block is going to stand, isn't there a block note that needs to go on the Talk page?

Thanks, StephenBuxton (talk) 16:06, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Easynet complaint re 82.110.0.0/16 block

The UK ISP Easynet has requested in email to unblock-en-l that the rangeblock you did today on 82.110.0.0/16 be reviewed and narrowed to the actual proxy. That /16 apparently consists of numerous commercial and academic customers, so it appears to have been too widely set.

Can you let us know what the specific issue was that prompted the block, and what range it can be narrowed to which only affects the specific Easynet customer subnets with the proxy problem?

Thank you. Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 18:55, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Easynet has sent more information - apparently the IP range 82.110.0.0 - 82.110.0.15 is a single customer known as Rapidata Services, and Easynet hypothesizes that you misunderstood what CIDR notation is appropriate to block that range.
If the range that the proxy is in is just that set of 16 IP addresses (82.110.0.0 to 82.110.0.15) then that's really a /28 CIDR block - 16 addresses in bits is 4 bits over, so 32-4 = 28. The rangeblock on /16 got everything from 82.110.0.0 to 82.110.255.255 - 64,000 plus addresses not just 16.
Without knowing what proxy addresses you actually spotted I don't know for sure if that's the problem, but if you can check and let us know I'd appreciate it.
If we don't hear back from you within a couple of hours I'm going to reduce the rangeblock to 82.110.0.0/28 temporarily, until we hear from you about what the correct details were.
Thanks! Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 19:13, 18 September 2008 (UTC)

Not specifically related to that range, but while I was zipping back through the logs of blocks you've made to see if I could find more small nets / specific IPs you blocked near that range previous to the /16 rangeblock, I noticed that you've made a fair number of other large indefinite rangeblocks with the block message of proxy block. This is somewhat concerning - It's very unusual for large ranges of IPs to actually contain many proxies (other than the megaproxy.com one ...). What sort of criteria are you using to determine that the whole large IP net are a problem? Thanks... Georgewilliamherbert (talk) 19:28, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
