Please read the noticeboard

Lower level districts in english wikipedia are not like Indonesian wikipedia. Stubs with no sources are strongly discouraged. The rule for any village/district in Indonesia on english wikipedia - is very clear WP:N from english language sources. The process is WP:V where at all possible requires WP:RS that can clarify the notability. Otherwise it is open to question as to whether there is any mention in a stand alone article, and in many cases if it is a one line stub with qualifying material as to why the stub exists, in the past they get taken out, and if there is a marginal notability - it might get the material into the higher level area that has an article.

The members of the Indonesian project some years ago, most who no longer edit regularly now, went through this, and despite that, an editor with no knowledge of indonesia seemed to have added large lists of district names with nothing to WP:V or anything. That deserves another look as to whether anything can be retrieved. In cases of wanting to add villages - sheesh - try WP:ABOUT and WP:NOT JarrahTree 10:50, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

In that case, I believe it is better to start select kecamatan articles for which adequate references can be found. Sagotreespirit (talk) 08:39, 20 May 2019 (UTC)

Yapen languages

Hi Sagotreespirit! I have seen your addition of data reflecting the recent classification of Papuan languages by Foley (2018), which you have done at a breathtaking speed: hats off for that! Just to let you know: I have corrected your mixup of the Papuan "Yapen languages" with the Austronesian "Yapen languages". To avoid confusion, I have moved "Yapen languages" to "Yapen languages (Austronesian)", fixed all links and added a DAB page. Maybe we should further move "Yawa languages" to "Yapen languages (Papuan)", what do you think? –Austronesier (talk) 11:30, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

@Austronesier: Thanks! But Yawa is the name on Glottolog and Ethnologue, so it's fine for now. Sagotreespirit (talk) 15:14, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Almami Rural LLG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. An article you recently created, List of rivers of Papua New Guinea, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Rollback granted

Hi Sagotreespirit. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 22:18, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Sagotreespirit moved page List of jewish-rock bands to List of Jewish rock bands

I created the list with a hyphen because this new title might be misunderstood. It's Jewish rock bands, not Jewish rock bands. --Bageense(disc.) 17:10, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

@Bageense: Jewish-rock is not correct punctuation. Readers will still see that it refers to Jewish rock and not rock bands if there is a blue link to Jewish rock instead of rock band. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 20:45, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

Cartonplast

Hi, can you tell me the part that I have to rewrite please? Giovannicaciotta (talk) 21:00, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

@Giovannicaciotta: The whole thing looks like an advertisement to people outside the company. It needs to read like an encyclopedia article, or else other editors who aren't nearly as nice will likely try to get it deleted. Consult WP:IBA and WP:PROMO first. All the best. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 21:03, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

c You will need to fix the English grammar too. Wording like "sheets is" does not make any sense. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 21:08, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

I will rewrite it, and I will corect grammatical errors as soon as possible. I want to specify that it isn't an advertisement, Is like Coroplast page.Giovannicaciotta (talk) 23:00, 5 October 2019 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer granted

Hi Sagotreespirit. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encylopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. Chetsford (talk) 10:46, 7 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Sago. I'm Barkeep49, another new page patroller. I see you were recently granted the NPP permission and have begun reviewing articles. How have things been going? Do you have any questions I might be able to help answer? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 21:12, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49: Hi Barkeep. Things are going well on my side. Still not sure about all those upcoming Indian films, so I have been leaving them alone for the time being. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 11:47, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
Yes future films do indeed remain tricky. I've taken a look at some of your patrols specifically [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], and [8]. Most of these look good, but I do have a few thoughts/questions about some of them.
  • For US Airways Flight 741 stowaway incident I noticed that an editor placed a notability tag after your patrol. What are your thoughts/what did you find when looking into this topic?
  • What indication did you find that Good Gas, Vol. 1 passes NSONG/GNG?
  • I question whether electoral wards of a city of 10,000 people as in Chalkwell Ward is notable.
  • You tagged SupportYourApp but decided not to G11 it. Could I better understand your thinking with that article?
Thanks and best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:44, 17 October 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49: Good questions. I generally err on the side of caution when nominating articles for deletion. I focus on deleting articles that are blatant advertisements and can obviously not be part of Wikipedia. Here is my reasoning for the articles above:
  • US Airways Flight 741 stowaway incident: It seemed like a notable historical event that was an unusual freak incident, not just a random car crash or an event that was nothing special.
  • I checked the artist's notability. 1$T is not a non-notable new rapper. I've been seeing that it's quite normal for albums by notable artists to have their own articles, such as Good Gas, Vol. 1. Other reviewers had been tagging such articles as patrolled, so I followed what they were doing. I wouldn't object to placing a notability tag, but it certainly isn't eligible for CSD either.
  • I checked the category at Category:Electoral wards of Southend-on-Sea and saw there were some other articles about similar wards. I've been seeing a lot of new stubs on small geographical places in the UK, most of which passed NPR. I'd personally go to the relevant WikiProject talk pages and ask participants about their thoughts on notability, rather than nominate for deletion or tag right away.
  • SupportYourApp would be more of an AfD candidate, not a CSD candidate. There is already a Ukrainian version, so it would not be eligible for CSD since it stands some chance of possibly being notable. The company was founded 10 years ago and has several hundred employees, notable clients, and a notable consultant, which isn't bad for a Ukrainian company. So this is not exactly a non-notable startup spam article. Nevertheless, the article needs a lot of cleanup. I asked the author to improve the article, but he hasn't responded yet.
Maybe you have your own thoughts as well. I'll continue to try my best at improving and curating useful encyclopedic content. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 03:12, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for your thoughts. In response
  • US Airways - I think your review was reasonable and appreciate your sharing your thinking. Sometimes people will tag stuff but that doesn't mean our marking it reviewed was wrong.
  • I think your analysis for Good Gas is flawed. The notability of the performing artist will only matter if any release is overwhelmingly likely to be notable something that only applies to the top few in any particular genre and is more commonsense than based in policy. I'm sure you're right that 1$T is notable but that doesn't make anything they do notable. Notability afterall is not inherited. We must instead look to see if this album is notable on its own merits. We have an SNG shortcut here - WP:NALBUM which can make our analysis a bit easier. I see no evidence from what's on WIKI that this album is notable. I certainly agree with you that it doesn't qualify for any of the WP:CSD but we have options beyond marking it reviewed and CSD. There is, as you note for SupportYourApp, AfD. In this case we also have the option of soft deletion by redirecting the album to the artist. Sometimes merely looking at what's present in the article isn't sufficient - we'll need to look off-wiki for evidence of notability. Given the redirect option combined with the SNG this wasn't necessary with this album but is, in my opinion, necessary in many cases for NPP before deciding the right next step.
  • I have appreciated hearing the work you did comparing to other articles. That often is the right next step. In this case given the evidnece you could find at Category:Electoral wards of Southend-on-Sea - with two experienced editors marking other such wards reviewed I agree your action was very reasonable.
  • So for G11 whether it's notable or not doesn't matter (same thing for G12). In this case I think SupportYourApp qualifies as promotional enough for G11 and have tagged it as such - we'll see what happens as I admit it's a bit of a borderline case. Beyond this every Wikipedia has different standards of inclusion. Ours is notability - what evidence do you have that this company meets WP:NCORP? I don't see any, including a casual BEFORE, which is why I was OK tagging a marginal G11 rather than trying to fix it in some way.
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my questions and I hope what I've written above is useful. Let me know if you have further questions or want to discuss anything else. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:22, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49: Thanks Barkeep, this is incredibly helpful feedback for me. I'll be reading more of these Wikipedia guideline and policy pages over the coming days. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 16:25, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
Sagotreespirit, I will admit that my eyebrow raised a little at this response (maybe even more than a little). Hopefully you meant reviewing the links rather than reading them. If you meant reading them please stop reviewing until you've read WP:N (which includes GNG) and probably several links like WP:BLP1E from there that also need reading. And then it's important to commit to memory - or failing that check before any review - what areas are covered by a SNG. When I was getting started I was checking and rechecking the SNGs daily. Even now I regularly go back to them to make sure I'm following what's written in the policy and not what I think in my head. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 20:26, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
P.S. SupportYourApp was deleted by another sysop as G11. I have nominated Chalkwell Ward for AfD to see what happens but truly don't think you made any mistake there. I have also redirected Good Gas, Vol. 1 which we'll see if it sticks. Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 20:28, 18 October 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49: Sorry if you had misunderstood my point. What I meant by my response was that I would like to know the nitty-gritty little details like the back of my hand. I did not mean to say that I had not read over the basic points at WP:N, WP:BLP1E, WP:GNG, and other related pages. I've already committed all of the basic points to memory, and I have always been reviewing - and deleting - everything with caution according to those points. I am already highly familiar with the basics of WP:N and am quite comfortable following the basic guidelines properly.
It's like an experienced lawyer saying that he still has to closely read over some more legal codes over the coming days so that he could keep his mind sharp. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 12:26, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49: So no, I won't be reading them for the first time. I meant reviewing the little details the way you might re-read a handbook that you've already read several times. Thanks for taking care of the other articles too. Let's see what happens to them at AfD. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 12:36, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
Sagotreespirit, thanks for that explanation. I figured it the more likely of the two scenarios but was concerned enough about the second one that I felt the need to follow through. Sorry for any misunderstanding :). Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:51, 19 October 2019 (UTC)

"Culture Of Manipur" page

Please reconvert the draft page "Culture Of Manipur" to a main page for it contains enough details than the "Manipur" Page. Goutamkumar Oinam (talk) 15:32, 26 October 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter November 2019

Hello Sagotreespirit,

This newsletter comes a little earlier than usual because the backlog is rising again and the holidays are coming very soon.

Getting the queue to 0

There are now 809 holders of the New Page Reviewer flag! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog but it's still roughly less than 10% doing 90% of the work. Now it's time for action.
Exactly one year ago there were 'only' 3,650 unreviewed articles, now we will soon be approaching 7,000 despite the growing number of requests for the NPR user right. If each reviewer soon does only 2 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by every reviewer doing only 1 review every 2 days - that's only a few minutes work on the bus on the way to the office or to class! Let's get this over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.
Want to join? Consider adding the NPP Pledge userbox.
Our next newsletter will announce the winners of some really cool awards.

Coordinator

Admin Barkeep49 has been officially invested as NPP/NPR coordinator by a unanimous consensus of the community. This is a complex role and he will need all the help he can get from other experienced reviewers.

This month's refresher course

Paid editing is still causing headaches for even our most experienced reviewers: This official Wikipedia article will be an eye-opener to anyone who joined Wikipedia or obtained the NPR right since 2015. See The Hallmarks to know exactly what to look for and take time to examine all the sources.

Tools
  • It is now possible to select new pages by date range. This was requested by reviewers who want to patrol from the middle of the list.
  • It is now also possible for accredited reviewers to put any article back into the New Pages Feed for re-review. The link is under 'Tools' in the side bar.
Reviewer Feedback

Would you like feedback on your reviews? Are you an experienced reviewer who can give feedback to other reviewers? If so there are two new feedback pilot programs. New Reviewer mentorship will match newer reviewers with an experienced reviewer with a new reviewer. The other program will be an occasional peer review cohort for moderate or experienced reviewers to give feedback to each other. The first cohort will launch November 13.

Second set of eyes
  • Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. This is an important feature of your work, especially while some routine tagging for deletion can still be carried out by non NPR holders and inexperienced users. Read about it at the Monitoring the system section in the tutorial. If you come across such editors doing good work, don't hesitate to encourage them to apply for NPR.
  • Do be sure to have our talk page on your watchlist. There are often items that require reviewers' special attention, such as to watch out for pages by known socks or disruptive editors, technical issues and new developments, and of course to provide advice for other reviewers.
Arbitration Committee

The annual ArbCom election will be coming up soon. All eligible users will be invited to vote. While not directly concerned with NPR, Arbcom cases often lead back to notability and deletion issues and/or actions by holders of advanced user rights.

Community Wish list

There is to be no wish list for WMF encyclopedias this year. We thank Community Tech for their hard work addressing our long list of requirements which somewhat overwhelmed them last year, and we look forward to a successful completion.
