[edit]Thank you for implementing the changes with the AliveCor article. If it's not too much trouble, could I ask you to help with a few more edit requests?
1) I found a good source for the headcount in the infobox:

2) The company name is officially stylized as AliveCor, per this legal filing [[1] Can you rename the article?
3) I uploaded two photos to Commons showing the KardiaMobile 6L and the KardiaMobile Card. Can you add them to the product section?

- @STEMinfo after your contribution another involved editor delisted the RfC stating that my RfC text was "misleading". Only you and another editor that commented on the RfC are uninvolved in the previous dispute so I'm asking for both to comment on the RfC to have a fresh perspective. Would you agree that the RfC is misleading or even "disruptive" and needs to be delisted? This is my first RfC so would appreciate the feedback if you have the time as no new editors will find it now. Thanks a lot. {{u|Gtoffoletto}} talk 14:23, 28 August 2023 (UTC)

Gallup data for articles
[edit]Hello, I represent Gallup, Inc. on Wikipedia, and as part of that work I've been asked to gauge editor interest in using Gallup data graphs in articles. To start, Gallup has donated several graphs to Wikimedia Commons, and I started a conversation on Talk:Employee engagement about some graphs that might be relevant to that article. Since you've edited the Gallup article, and given your general editing interests, I thought you might be interested in the discussion. Gallup's goal is to be a resource to Wikipedia editors by making their data more accessible and easier to include in articles. Cheers! BINK Robin (talk) 19:41, 18 October 2023 (UTC)

Draft review request
[edit]Hi STEMinfo - I saw you helped rewrite Darius Jones (saxophonist), and was wondering if you'd be kind enough to review a draft I wrote in my sandbox for a company called VML. It's an agency formed when two agencies which already have articles VMLY&R and Wunderman Thompson merged. I have a conflict of interest and don't want to break any editing rules. I'm a little confused by the reference formatting but I tried to match the tone and content I see in other agency articles. Do you think it would be approved if I submitted it? Uncle Shep (talk) 21:44, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Uncle Shep: Looks OK for a first pass, but there are a couple of minor things I see right away that can be fixed. I'll take a deeper look this weekend. STEMinfo (talk) 22:25, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- Great, thanks STEMinfo Uncle Shep (talk) 22:51, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Uncle Shep: I moved your draft to mainspace. VML (agency) The content and the sources were pretty good, but I found a better way to show the history of the earlier agencies. I also added some sources that were missing. You can see in the version history what I did. Congratulations - you can now say your wrote an article. STEMinfo (talk) 23:55, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

- Thanks again for your help with VML (agency). With a conflict of interest, am I at least allowed to edit the predecessor articles to link to the new article, so it's not an orphan? Including the VML (disambiguation) page? I also noticed that VML redirects to Vector Markup Language, an obsolete file format discontinued years ago. Who decides which article the bare letters redirect to? Also, am I allowed to add a logo? Thanks for your help. Uncle Shep (talk) 12:37, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Uncle Shep: I linked the older agencies to your new article, added a logo, and updated the disambiguation page. I'm not sure that searches for VML can go to your article versus the VML disambiguation page. I'll have to do a little research. STEMinfo (talk) 05:06, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

Suitability of VML (agency) for a standalone article
[edit]Hi STEMinfo, I see you reviewed the publication of VML as a standalone article. I've had a quick look at the sources as par of the new pages review process, both already cited and not yet in the article, and they largely seemed like what we consider routine business announcements, meaning they do not normally contribute to what we require to write a standalone article. Even the Wall Street Journal article seemed to fall short of that mark. It is also not recommended to base substantial portions of an article off primary sources, non-independent sources, or both, which the aforementioned routine coverage often also falls into.
I would normally suggest a merger of the article, in this case, most likely into VMLY&R § VML, but before I implement such a merge, I'd like to ask if either you or Uncle Shep had any questions or objections about the process, or alternate merge targets. Alpha3031 (t • c) 11:56, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- @Alpha3031: Thanks for the heads up. I also considered merging when I saw this request, but since the new company looks like a merger of equals, that didn't make sense. The component companies themselves were created by mergers, and those articles are structured the same way this one is. This source says that as a result of this merger, VML is now the world's largest creative agency, so the notability threshold is met. I thought a primary source was something controlled by the subject? All the sources Uncle Shep used seem to be secondary news sources. If you think the sourcing is weak, maybe tag for refimprove? Should I put this comment in the merge discussion? STEMinfo (talk) 00:49, 29 May 2024 (UTC)
- Hi again STEMinfo. For companies and organisations, the "notability"* criteria is strictly based on the depth of coverage in eligible sources (WP:ORGCRIT). There's no real list of additional criteria like we have for most of the other subjects in the {{Notability sidebar}} on the Wikipedia:Notability page (such as the
well-known and significant award or honor
we'd use for any biography). - And don't worry, the idea that a primary source is one controlled by the subject is a common one, and the distinction is a very technical point of policy that is very rare to come across, but they are different. We have an essay, Wikipedia:Party and person, about it, but the gist of it is that a secondary source, as defined in our Wikipedia:No original research policy, are required to have
analysis, evaluation, interpretation, or synthesis of the facts, evidence, concepts, and ideas taken from primary sources.
Simple statements of fact are never secondary, whereas, say, an researcher publishing a review article featuring their own work, or hell, even the company publishing analysis of their financial results, would be secondary but not independent. In this case, refs 1, 2 and 12 have some of what we'd consider secondary content. - Of course, many of the sources for VML (agency) would also fail the independence test for organisations, WP:ORGIND, which requires both functional independence (that the author and publication are unaffiliated) and intellectual independence (that the content is not directly derived from what is provided by interested parties). Most interviews and announcements would fail the second half of that test. Finally, coverage that companies routinely receive as part of ordinary business operations (WP:CORPROUTINE) is typically considered trivial coverage and would fail the first S in WP:SIRS ("Significant coverage"). Hope this clarifies the concerns.
- * I've put it in quotes because "notability" on Wikipedia is jargon that IMO doesn't really match the common meaning of the term. Alpha3031 (t • c) 14:06, 1 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Alpha3031: Thanks for the detailed clarification. I read the WP:P&P essay and from the info there, it seems to indicate that all the sources in the article qualify as tertiary sources. They appear to be written by trade publications that are distinct from the subject. I looked at VML's history and still don't think a merge makes sense. I'll add a comment to your merge discussion. Edit Request
[edit]Hi @STEMinfo, I am a COI editor who uploaded a request on Labaton Sucharow back in early February. While looking at requests others had made so I could put mine together, I saw you link to your User:STEMinfo/COI edit requests for novices and thought I'd use your formatting recommendations to indicate the changes I was looking to make. Would you mind seeing if I have followed your advice correctly and maybe reviewing the request? I would also be happy to provide any feedback as I believe your guide is a work in progress rather than official guidance. The Comfiest (talk) 17:36, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

Interview request
[edit]Hi STEMinfo -- I am Noam Cohen (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noam_Cohen), a journalist who writes frequently about Wikipedia and how it works. I've noticed that you play a crucial role in translating suggestions from editors with COI to edits to articles. Could we arrange a time to speak, either via email or over the phone? I see that, for good reason, you don't have a way of being emailed. :) I'm noamstuart at gmail.com if you want to drop me a line. Looking forward to it, Chomsky1 (talk) 17:28, 27 March 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @Chomsky1: - I thought I was set up with email but apparently wasn't. It should be now, and I also emailed you. Happy to answer any questions you might have. I'm surprised with all the attention that the Noam Cohen article has gotten that nobody else realized that the part about Noam being a Wikipedia editor is poorly sourced. One source is Noam saying he's an editor in an article he wrote, and the other is a link to press articles Noam wrote. Neither proves that the real Noam is actually a Wikipedia editor, and I'm also going on good faith that you are really him. ;-) STEMinfo (talk) 23:35, 27 March 2024 (UTC)

Reaching out about Global Strategy Group requests
[edit]Hello there! I'm Aaron, an employee at the political consulting and polling firm Global Strategy Group. You've worked with my colleague User:ES at Global Strategy Group previously. I'm filling in for her while she's out of office for a bit. Would you have any interest in taking a look at one or both of the active edit requests on the GSG Talk page? The first one concerns the addition of a new Advocacy campaigns section, and the second is about some edits we would like to make to the existing Amazon subsection. I know Wikipedia is a community of volunteer editors, so I don't want to make onerous demands on your time, but since you've helped out before, I thought I would at least check. I'll link to both requests here: Advocacy campaigns and Amazon.
The Amazon one is simpler and should take less time to review. I would also appreciate, if you don't want to take this on, any advice you might have about finding interested editors. The Advocacy section draft in particular has been sitting for quite a while, and I'm not sure what to do about it.
Thanks, Aaron for GSG (talk) 20:25, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

Requesting review of draft
[edit]Hi STEMinfo - I noticed you've helped connected editors in the past with various edit requests. I wrote a draft for a company I work with called SoLo Funds. The draft is in my sandbox: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Knowledgeseeker209871/sandbox. Can you take a look at the draft, and let me know if you think it will be approved? I modeled it after the Insureon article, so hopefully it's okay. Thank you for your time. Knowledgeseeker209871 (talk) 15:14, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Knowledgeseeker209871: I took the liberty to filling in and combining the bare references using the reFill tool. I should have some time to take a look at your draft tomorrow. STEMinfo (talk) 23:48, 23 July 2024 (UTC)
- @Knowledgeseeker209871: I reviewed your draft. I Googled SoLo to see if there was anything else that could be added. I saw a lot of recent coverage about regulatory issues, which I added. I also added some user statistics to balance things out, and changed the CNN mention to show that it was actually CNN Underscored editors that gave the review, not the main CNN newsroom. I moved your draft to mainspace where it will be reviewed by the new page patrollers. The page history will show that you are the article's creator. Any further discussion should be on the article's talk page. For any additional edit requests, please see Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request. Thanks for your contribution. [edit]Sir - I hope you are having a great day. Like the others above, I’m grateful for your assistance helping with articles. I work for a businessman named Raj Bhathal, who founded a large swimwear company and is now on the ownership team of the Sacramento Kings basketball team. I think he is notable enough for an article, but I was hoping you might confirm for me before I submit it. The draft can be found here: User:RastaPete2000/sandbox/Raj Bhathal. Many thanks! - @RastaPete2000: You did a pretty good job. I filled in the refs and fixed a ref error, and moved your draft to mainspace. Page patrollers will review this and determine if he's notable enough. The only thing that was confusing is that there's no undergraduate degree listed in your draft. There are two sources that say he went to two different colleges for his undergraduate degree. Can you clarify which is right? South Dakota School of Mines or Black Hills State University. STEMinfo (talk) 23:57, 27 July 2024 (UTC)

- @NYC2032: I'll take a look and see how it looks. STEMinfo (talk) 21:57, 11 September 2024 (UTC)
- @NYC2032: In the future, it would be helpful if you included the link to your draft. I found it in your contribution history but a link is better. I reviewed the draft and changed a few things to match the sources, such as dates and names. If any sources have incorrect information, you can always try to contact the writer of the source to have them fix it, but a core tenet of Wikipedia is that everything must be sourced. I capitalized Boldstart Ventures, since common usage is preferred, and I don't see any of the sources making the name lower case. I also removed some details that were unsourced and info that seemed a bit out of place for an encyclopedia bio. You can see what I did in the revision history [2]. I'm not familiar with notability standards for investors, and looked for more sources, but it seems you've included Sim's most visible coverage. You can click the blue resubmit button to submit the article now and someone will review it and let you know if it's accepted. If not, you can keep on working on it and let me know if you'd like another review. Good luck. STEMinfo (talk) 00:20, 16 September 2024 (UTC)

COI edit requests
[edit]Hi, this is just a brief courtesy note...
If when looking at a COI edit request you see that several days previously another editor pointed out to the requesting editor that the sourcing was very bad, the correct response is is to wait for the requesting editor to respond with better quality sources.
The correct response is not to implement the changes anyway just to get the request off the backlog, installing sources which have been observed to be very bad.
Please deal with COI edit requests with less haste and have some respect for due process. There is no hurry here, no race, and no awards for who clears the most cases off the backlog. If cases have to wait in the backlog while requesting editors locate better sources, that is not causing anybody any problem at all. If a month or two later the requesting editor hasn't responded with better sources then the request can be closed down.
Copying in Encoded for a third opinion here. The case in point was Kevin Hartz.
