Great work!

Thanks for removing the vandalism on the Nicole article! There are some tools and tips for fighting vandalism on the WP:VAND page, if you are interested. Keep up the great work! --TeaDrinker (talk) 18:12, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Invitation to participate in my discussion/challenge of BLP article: Marty Munsch

Hello, I noticed you had reverted a series of edits (with the comment "Reads like a lot of original research and opinion..") in the article Marty Munsch performed by an IP user User talk:68.193.213.46 who had been warned about vandalism. This article has essentially only been edited by dynamic IP addresses (that I assert belong to the article's subject who is using Wikipedia as a resume and advertisement), most of these just removing challenging WP: tags which *I* consider vandalism. Just now I have explained my efforts to challenge not only the content, but the notability of the subject on the talk page of User_talk:Gilliam. All of the challenges that I have seen made against this article are reverted 'as vandalism' (some marked as minor edits) and almost always by an IP user. I would like to invite you to read and/or comment on what I wrote at User_talk:Gilliam or on my own talk page. Best regards, Barry L. Kramer Xblkx (talk) 06:12, 19 February 2010 (UTC)

SQGibbon, thank you very much for your guidance and the investment of your time. I will, as you suggested, go through the references on the page hopefully within the next few days and try to determine specifically which ones seem to be legitimate beyond those you identified. I am not the most experienced editor here, but if none of the original authors or contributors of the article haven't stepped up for the major edit and modified the article to remove the contentious material, I will certainly give it a try. I just wanted to say how much I appreciate what you have done to improve the quality of this and other articles. It is much more than I ever expected. Thank you. Swine Flu

Hey there,

No worries on the revert, but why is the article called, "2009 flu pandemic?" When a reader googles Swine Flu they get this pandemic on Wikipedia and it can be confusing to a lay person. Everybody in the field calls it swine flu/h1n1, so why not call it that on Wikipedia?Malke2010 07:59, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for getting back to me. I looked at the link for the discussion you provided. Yes, that's a real mess. Thanks. Malke2010 09:51, 24 February 2010 (UTC)

Ball Hockey

Just concerning the street hockey redirect: ball hockey and street hockey are in themselves somewhat different so I thought it would be efficient to direct people to where they can find information on this version of hockey. Information like the CBHA, Play On!, and the World Ball Hockey Championships

Da Raiders (talk) 06:02, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

I think it is good to seperate the two hockey identities, but I definitely agree with your point about the information on Street Hockey, as the Ball hockey page is still in infancy and will continue to grow. I have added an internal link to the street hockey page and will continue to add to the ball hockey page.

Marty Munsch

I am Marty Munsch, I have been trying to clean up this mess that has been compounded over the years. I had discovered the Wikipedia page and have been constantly trying to keep people from adding to it but to my own fault, as I am very busy and can't keep track of what people write or post about me on the internet. I would gladly accept ANY help to justify what has been inaccurately posted. (I may have to speak to somone, to fight this never ending battle) Were dealing with punk music and it can be a real pain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SOcal9045 (talkcontribs) 07:06, 6 March 2010 (UTC)

For all the entitys that I have worked with, I assume (and know) that they are also a contributory effort to the article. I also will note that some attack like compliment, of an ambush like contribution that I will remove, that also demonstrates what we are are doing here. • I have come to the conclusion that anything on wiki that has been inserted into the historical content of my production work is very inaccurate, it changes from whomever views it. If it would at all be possible, to remove this annoying ,stub so that I may re-stablish a proper historical content for public display/use. You have my permission to delete it. I have noticed quite a bit of confusion in the discussion forums. I think that it would be for the best. Please contact me at my website as I am going to have it re designed. June_Carter_Cash Vandalism

Good evening,

Apparently you identified an edit made by this IP address in the article of June Carter Cash, probably one of my fellow students at the Catholic University of Leuven, as vandalism. I would like to point that the edit made by this person, changing "husband of 35 years" to "husband of 71 years" was not vandalism, but a misinterpretation of the phrase. His or her edit was in all probability meant with good intention as 71 years was the actual age of her husband at that time, as he (and probably more people) interpreted that line. If the line said "husband for 35 years", this translation error would not have occurred.

So please, before randomly accusing people of organizations of vandalism, give it some thought as to why the edit was made. 193.190.253.146 (talk) 01:04, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your note. There was nothing "random" about my warning. I see vandalism like this all the time where a vandal will change one number in an article and that's it. What I'm not going to do is spend time trying to figure out all the ways an anonymous IP might have misread something that is clearly written (I find it difficult to believe that any more than a few people would misinterpret that line -- it's a standard way of expressing that idea). There's a lot of vandalism out there, spending five minutes trying to figure out the motivations of every single anonymous IP edit just means a lot of other vandalism is going to slip through the cracks. Instead, if it was an honest mistake then that editor can contact me and I'll be more than happy to delete the warning I made and will issue an apology on that page. I applaud your intrepidness! Maybe the thing to do is just stub it, if cites other than the notoriously prone-to-abuse-and-unsubstantiated-trivia IMDb can be found. I can try to help. I don't appreciate you marking my edits to the article as vandalism just because you deem them so. 24.126.26.133 (talk) 03:14, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm, a search of the Washington Post website reveals no mention of anything even closely resembling the quote and citation you supplied. Even a search on Google comes up emtpy. What else am I supposed to label it as? And then "Also, the game"? I did chuckle at that at least, but yes, still vandalism. (copied to user page) SQGibbon (talk) 04:44, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
The reference is technically true; Michael Connolly is in fact a real person, and companies don't have to establish a web presence to exist. While the Washington Post source may very well be invalid, there's no way to determine that a company does not exist. You could start SQGibbon and Co. tonight, and no one can say it does/doesn't exist. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.126.26.133 (talk) 06:20, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
But I couldn't put anything about SQGibbon & Co. on Wikipedia unless there was a source for the claim. In any case it's not whether the company exists but that the claimed source is not real (as you admit) and even an assumed good faith search of the internet on my part failed to verify any of of the rest of it (there are several Michael Connollys, which I never doubted, but no instance of any of them making that quote). So yes, admitted invalid source plus no other source I could find to corroborate equals vandalism. (copied to user page) SQGibbon (talk) 06:49, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

My concern is that since he was a founding member of two different bands (both of which he's apparently not in anymore) redirecting him to either one would make it inconvenient to track down all the relevant information about him. Somewhat counter-intuitively, deleting the page altogether seems OK to me. Internet searches reveal a lot of blog stuff, Youtube, and last.fm listings but nothing I could find that was particularly notable. I think he and his former bands are probably notable (just enough Google juice) but damned if I could figure out why. SQGibbon (talk) 22:15, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

Mr Gibbon Please explain me why my article does not have to do anything with Sufism. Sufism and spirituality is one in the same thing. Sufism existed even before the time of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. If Sufism would have been limited to Islam, then it would have been started from the time of Prophet Muhammad PBUH. Even now a days there are many non-Muslims who are practicing Sufism. Looking forward to hear from oyu. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Azhar Mehmood (talkcontribs) 16:40, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Hello there, I thought your name is Gibbon, i am extremely sorry for that. 1)In my article I had mentioned that spirituality is not associated with Religion. It is to awaken the spiritual entities inside human body. Besides the Christians and the Jews, the Hindus also confess these spiritual entities. The Hindus refer to them as Shaktian or Chakra, and the Muslims know them as Lata'if. 2) Muslims use the word 'Sufism' for spirituality. 3) My intention is to spread the truth and nothing without the truth on Wikipedia. Wikipedia is the place where people come to find information regarding something, if the information on Wikipedia is not truth then what's the point. My intention is to spread the truth regardless of where it is coming from (and off course I will definitely give reference with each and every of my post). Finally, for i.e in any article on Wikipedia there are several point of views from different religions or groups, each and everyone of them can not be true also, but still they have freedom for posting as far as they can provide reference.Azhar Mehmood (talk) 19:22, 4 May 2010 (UTC) Looking forward to hear from you.

2009 Richmond High School gang rape

Hi. I reverted you. I sourced LA Times for my reference, a respected newspaper. It was not an editorial or an opinion but a standard news report. If you look at the heading it says "Article Collection". The races of the attackers and the victims are disclosed. This is an encyclopedia and the facts should be disclosed just as they are disclosed in other famous gang rape articles where the victim and the perpetrators were of different races and the rape itself was especially brutal. Cheers! Meishern (talk) 16:04, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I was reverted again by another editor. As per my reply on my talk page to your post, I will no longer edit this article until enough solid sources are available. I have spend the past 4 hours looking, but was unable to find anything else that I would be comfortable using as a legitimate, main stream reference besides LA times. If i come up with something new, I will post it on the talk page for the article and notify you. Thank you for being courteous. :) Cheers! Meishern (talk) 00:23, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Plagiarism Section in Kong Hee article

Hi there, just to drop a note to say that the plagiarism news is indeed covered under by reliable source (In this case the physical paper copy of The Straits Tims, June 12), pg 3. There's a full page article on it, as well as the reporter's detailed correspondence with the original authors with whom the reporters verified the plagiarism charges. They had in fact stopped short of taking action only because the subject has stopped copying from their books. Its quite credible and reliable as the Straits Times is a most widely read mainstream English paper in Singapore, and has the reporter's byline instead of being anonymous. The identity of the blogger who uncovered the plagiarism was also revealed and identified, but that was not included in the Kong Hee article as there is no need to inflate the article.Zhanzhao (talk) 09:58, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Per your request you are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. 7  09:13, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

9th amendment rights over powers

where the analysis or synthesis advances a position not advanced by the source

doesnot apply to my edits - it's Madison's own words. not orginal reseaech. the cites are from earlier on the 9th amendment page - check it yourself. my last sentence is a simpy a clarified version of the 9th amendment itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Overthrowlies (talkcontribs) 02:39, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

the sentence: "It is to that enumeration of powers that the courts have said we must look, in order to determine the extent of the unenumerated rights mentioned in the Ninth Amendment.[15]"

is an opinion with only one source - a case Lexis tags as questionable. It us also only briefly mentioned therein. The quote found at the link below is a more balanced view of how courts determine unenumerated rights.

http://ask.metafilter.com/158203/What-does-the-Ninth-Amendment-mean

The government can still argue that a right doesn't exist, because it was never part of the common-law rights of Englishmen before the Revolution. They can argue that it doesn't exist because it's not fundamental to liberty, or it's antithetical to an orderly society. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Overthrowlies (talkcontribs) 20:06, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

"addresses" implies the 9th has no effect - a position conservatives falsely promote, therefore it is not neutral. in U.S. Public Workers v. Mitchell 330 U.S. 75 (1947): "If granted power is found, necessarily the objection of invasion of those rights, reserved by the Ninth and Tenth Amendments, must fail." "reserves" is used by the ussc in above quote. a quote conservatives like, and it already appears on this page. therefore more neutral as well as more accurate. this wiki page is loaded with weasel words that are not neutral. even if you are truly not biased, you still appear to lack the legal background/interest to properly review this page. i would like to appeal your reviewing to a higher authority. the ninth is a very important and poorly understood amendment. a biased page confuses and misinforms the public. i included the metafilter link because it contained a complaint about the wiki page, as well as being more informative on interpreting.

Dear SQGibbon, I just had my edits to the Jon Stewart page reverted, please allow me to justify them so that you may restore them. I wish to make are any amendments necessary to legitimize my edit's in compliance with Wikipedia's guidelines.

First, here is my addition to the page _______________

Movement to Draft Stewart as a 2012 Presidential Debate Moderator

Following the interview of Jim Cramer on The Daily Show on March 12,2009 a Facebook Group was created to begin a movement to Draft Jon Stewart as a moderator of a presidential debate 2012. By September 17, 2010 when the Rally to Restore Sanity was announced, the group had gained approximately 5,500 members. In the two weeks following membership shot up by another 2000 and the movement launched it's website stewart4moderator dot org, which features a petition to convince the Commission on Presidential Debates to select him as a moderator during the 2012 general election. __________ My first revision had links to the Facebook group, the website and the to the petition mentioned in the text. On the second, I removed them. Also previous to this edit I added an external link to this group.

I wish to appeal this removal on the grounds that this movement has over 7,600 members and is organizing to accomplish its objective, which is a significant number of people. I also think that it is appropriate to have the link to both the group website and the facebook group. This is not a frivolous promotion, but information that should be made available to anyone researching Jon Stewart on Wikipedia.

I would appreciate an evaluation of any changes to be made to make this post permanent.

thank you

Good call on [1]. It had looked to my first glance like the IP had included a new source for the content, but it was just the insertion of content before the existing footnote. Active Banana (bananaphone 16:28, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

I have re-added one of the external links you removed from the Phish page - and I added a section to the Talk:Phish#External Link to Phish.Net page to discuss the reasons I think it should be kept. I felt you might want to be informed in case you disagree. -Addionne (talk) 19:54, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't "vandalizing". I just wanted to "talk" though it may have been perceived differently. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.30.179.92 (talk) 00:13, 5 November 2010 (UTC)

NKOTB

Just a note about my decision to delete a two-sentence, standalone paragraph because it was written as an advertisement for a CBS show. Some edit by addition. I edit with an eye for removing promotion (self- or otherwise) and instances of people trying to smuggle their silly and unrelated interests/tangents into articles. I understand that I could have re-written the paragraph, but that wasn't my concern. I wouldn't call it vandalism, and in its own way (trimming fat) I do feel it was constructive. On another note, I think it's a little odd that the NKOTB page spends so much time detailing what its members did after leaving the group, especially since each has his own Wikipedia page. But that's not necessarily a concern for either of us.

cheers,

Notable Alums

Thank you for taking an interest in my edits. I am unaware of any policy that requires notable alumna to have their own page. There were more than a few cases existing before I, in a fit of melancholia, began my little project. I would appreciate your reasoning on this. My little tour of various high school articles shows how remarkably poor many of these entries are, just by the way. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 01:36, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your thoughtful reply. So ... let me think about it. I can think of one non-notable notable grad, the son of John F. Kelly. The father is a USMC general officer, the son a subaltern. The son was killed and is survived by the general and his brother, a Marine captain. Heck of a good, notable story. (But even then, wouldn't such a nifty story deserve its own entry rather than hinting at it in a couple of entries on other articles?) In any case I have to run off to class now and I shall noodle all this over. Paul, in Saudi (talk) 03:59, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

4'33"

It should be noted that SQ Gibbon seems to ignore primary information sources and indirectly himself commits acts of vandalism by removing well evidenced and documented information based on primary sources. I find it difficult to understand this approach especially as I myself am actively engaged in academic research which insists on primary sources. I am somewhat perplexed by this. This is a personal view and not I insist a criticism of the much valued work undertaken by Mr Gibbon on wikipedia —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.37.185 (talk) 18:13, 7 December 2010 (UTC)

Re. 4' 33" I note that it in 'Talk' it has been described as a 'prank', however, I must take exception to this as further links have been provided to recent comments made by Laura Kuhn director of The John Cage Trust and these, surely, must be acknowledged in an objective manner alongside the link given to The Telegraph article by noted writer and critic, Norman Lebrecht. I do take exception to your rather subjective dismissal of the contributions made to this resource of material on 4' 33" as a mere 'prank. The notable sources clearly counter this and I now question your authority to continue in an editorial capacity in relation to this article. To whom could I direct my concern (obviously I would provide my full contact details)? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.14.37.185 (talk) 21:17, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Just checking the video and audio link references given at the end. Is there a breach of copyright here by linking to these sites which may not have been licensed for the material linked to? Not 100% on copyright law, as I think it is the server who is liable, but might be worthwhile to check with Peters edition on this.86.14.37.185 (talk) 00:01, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I see there have been a number of recent edits to this page which have been a clear case of vandalism and I'm not sure how to stop them. Could you watch them please. IP address to be blocked is 81.155.211.49 which I think is in Ledbury, Herefordshire Thanks. I originally confused who was doing the edits - apologies for that.86.14.37.185 (talk) 12:39, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Could you guys please put the yellow or gray bar back in the infoboxes

Could you guys please put the yellow bar if someone is alive or gray bar if someone is dead in the infobox, because first it is very hard to tell if infobox is an actor, a person, a model or a wrestler. so could you please put that into consideration? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DonnyD97 (talkcontribs) 20:43, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi SQGibbon! Thank you for your message. Yes, I started the Augusta Lundin article. I understand you are unclear as to whether the references to the article are books, papers or something else. I have read both of the references of the article and can confirm that they are both books, and they are both in the Swedish language. The titles are, as you can see, translated. I have no objections at all, of course, that you work with the article to make it look better, and I hope this helps. Regards--Aciram (talk) 01:37, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

I appologize; I have looked at it a second time, and I have given a new reply on the articles discussion-page. I hope I have been of some help at least. --Aciram (talk) 02:05, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Dispute regarding Mr Capone e

Dear SQGibbon,

I am sorry that I have not replied earlier to your messages. I would just like to clear out some misconceptions with regards to Mr. Capone-e.

  • Mr. Capone-e did not graduate from Canyon Springs High School
  • Mr. Capone-e's birth name is not Fahad
  • The reference "Capone Vs Capone-E" is no longer valid as the website BarrioMusic.com does not exist any longer.

I work with Mr. Capone-e and believe I know much of his history and what he does. I am not here to argue or vandalise any sites, I am writing facts on the Wikipedia page If you feel that I am in anyway being unreasonable then please feel free to call me

Many Thanks

I Understand

Oh, yeah sure, I'll stop. Uh, thanks for telling me. But I just want to let you know I forget easily so don't get mad if you that again. 173.61.158.50 (talk)

Problem

I just want to say I'm sorry for the bad sources, but here's a problem: IMDB and Wikipedia are practically my only sources. So I just want to ask if you guys could maybe guide me to some places that may have sources. Just a suggestion. 173.61.158.50 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:52, 3 January 2011 (UTC).

One Thing

I just want to say that on Andrew Dice Clay's page, except for Tracy Morgan all those other influences and influenced people were already there, so I don't know why you guys took that out. And the reason why the Infobox was all messed up like that is I was trying to add an infobox comedian award (P.S. if you want to try to help me out it was a Razzie Award for Worst Actor in 1991 for The Adventures of Ford Fairlane) but it wouldn't do anything. Okay, so I just wanted to clarify any harsh feelings and what I did and did not do, so just get back to me when you have the chance. 173.61.158.50 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 22:53, 3 January 2011 (UTC).

Unreliable Source?

Why is allmusic not considered a reliable source for comedians influences? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't put anything like that on their site unless they were 100% sure that it was correct, right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bill Hicks Jr. (talkcontribs) 01:52, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
