Hello Rosie

It's so great to read what is going on at Wikipedia and especially in regards to topics that are relevant to women. I've spent the last few days just going through everything I've missed since taking my winter break (And I thought winter was grueling, lol). Nevertheless, Spring and the "great thaw" is upon us and, with the return of every shade of green and vibrant colors to our valley around the corner, I feel refreshed and renewed. I just wanted to stop by and wish you so many blessings for the rest of this year and look forward to being able to make contributions, whether great or small, to allow the voices of my sisters to be heard and to assist in building upon the foundation that so many have poured themselves into forming throughout the years. --ARoseWolf 17:39, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you so much for stopping by, @ARoseWolf: Nice to see you again. Indeed, winter was grueling from my perspective, too. Grateful that spring is here as it has invigorated me in multiple ways. Looking forward to working with you and others in the many ways that are available to us regarding wiki+women. All the best to you! --Rosiestep (talk) 17:57, 22 April 2021 (UTC)

Women of Color and Tech

Thank you for welcoming me as a first-time editor, and for hosting the NMAI Edit-a-thon event! I'm attending as a member of the Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security group, with members all over the world, primarily young Women of Color in the national security, development, health, tech, and advocacy spaces. We have some members/groups interested in the effort to get equal representation in places like Wikipedia. There may be opportunities for additional collaboration in the future, which would be wonderful! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hyanghw (talkcontribs) 10:47, April 23, 2021 (UTC)

Indeed, it would be great to collaborate in the future. If you'd like to discuss ways that Women of Color Advancing Peace and Security group can organize a process in order to work towards momre equal representation of women in your focus area (Women of Color and Tech), I'd be glad to discuss this with you, e.g. schedule a call. --Rosiestep (talk) 18:02, 23 April 2021 (UTC)

Women's voices

wild garlic

More memories on the Main page today, Psalm 115 thinking of Yoninah, Christa Ludwig and Milva, - voices that made the Earth a better place. Sad that the psalm hook didn't appear on Earth Day as planned, but better pictured and late than going unnoticed ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:21, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing, Gerda Arendt, especially the memories of those who are gone. Happy Belated Earth Day. --Rosiestep (talk) 14:21, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
Yoninah - Ludwig - Milva - three gone, and a legacy for us - I love Katze! --Gerda Arendt (talk) 16:05, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, yes, a real cutie cat. :) --Rosiestep (talk) 16:10, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

April 2021 - Elizabeth Lowe Watson

Information icon Hello, I'm TJRC. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Solon, Ohio, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources. If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. TJRC (talk) 17:28, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Thanks for stopping by, TJRC. There was no "Notable people" section in the Solon, Ohio article till I created it and added Elizabeth Lowe Watson. So I didn't realize that this city's article required a RS for any names added to a "Notable people" section (as opposed to the thousands of other city articles, which don't require a RS, but do require a WL). No problem, though. I added the content back, along with a RS. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:44, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
They all do, really, but it's an area where Wikipedia tends to be a bit sloppy. There's no exception for city articles (or even worse, the high school articles) for reliable sources.
Thanks for the add; it helped me find and add Georgia T. Robertson, too. TJRC (talk) 19:19, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

Women in Red membership

As I raised this matter on the Ideas page, I thought I should let you know that the situation is not as critical as I thought. I've just been going through the membership list for April registrations and see that in addition to those I covered early in the month, there have in fact been seven more in the past couple of weeks. The reason I did not contact them earlier is that their names did not appear on the membership list until several days after their registration. Every morning I cancel the cache and check the list for the past three days. I now realize I'll have to go back four or five days to catch them all. I don't know why this is happening but at least we're still getting new members. So maybe MarioGom should just leave things as they are for the time being. But maybe we should reduce the membership registration box on the main WiR page to "Join WikiProject" and "View Full List" as the "Meet the participants" is no longer functioning. The only way to view the "cards" is to see when the registration was made and view Special contributions for the editor in question.--Ipigott (talk) 11:05, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

That is good news, Ipigott -- that new members have been joining in the last couple of weeks! As for the box, I'm neutral on how that should look and defer to your opinion on this matter. Mostly, though, I want to say thank you for caring and for all the behing-the-scenes tasks you do at WiR! --Rosiestep (talk) 14:47, 28 April 2021 (UTC)
Let's just see how things evolve over the next few weeks. I think however that now that WMF are giving special attention to the retention of new editors, we ought to do what we can to make sure our project is as welcoming as possible. If new editors look for background on those listed and can't find them, it's not a very good introduction.--Ipigott (talk) 15:20, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

David Albala

Hi, Rosiestep. I've started expanding David Albala, which you created and largely wrote, with the aim of getting it promoted to Good Article status. For now I'm focusing on adding material from reliable secondary sources. If there is any material I should know about, feel free to bring it to my attention. And of course, if you would like to help get the article to GA that would be more than welcome. Warmest regards, Amanuensis Balkanicus (talk) 17:24, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

Amanuensis Balkanicus, thank you so much for notifying me and for expanding/improving the article. It would be awesome if you could get it to GA! I'll keep an eye on progress. --Rosiestep (talk) 17:50, 28 April 2021 (UTC)

In my opinion

In my opinion you don't get this enough, Rosie. Simply from one human being to another, every ounce of who I am behind each and every letter...THANK YOU! Thank you for caring. Thank you for loving. Thank you for being who you are. Thank you for giving so much of your time and efforts to keeping the voices of our past and present fresh in our hearts and minds. This encourages us to keep persevering and keep fighting so young women like my daughter, our future, will know the hardships faced the sacrifices made so that their voices will never be silenced. --ARoseWolf 13:05, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

My goodness; that is so nice of you to say, @ARoseWolf. Thank you! Really appreciate it. We're all in it together! --Rosiestep (talk) 18:51, 29 April 2021 (UTC)

Teresa Paiva Speedy deletion: Help!!

Hi Rosie. I have just had a Speedy Deletion tag attached to my latest article under the Mental Health editathon. I am at loss to understand the reason for this. If all similar articles get tagged in this way it would appear to threaten the very existence of Women in Red. Any help you can give would be much appreciated. Thanks Roundtheworld (talk) 19:08, 4 May 2021 (UTC)

today

See my talk today, - it's rare that a person is pictured when a dream comes true, and that the picture is shown on the Main page on a meaningful day. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:04, 30 May 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, @Gerda, for letting me know. Truly, a nice article. Also, I like the flowers pic of marguerites and corn flowers; made me smile. Also, an opportunity for a new cat to watch over things. --Rosiestep (talk) 13:26, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
Well, most of his article was translated, I did more for the chapel, another DYK to come. What a story, planned to be demolished twice, a father tells his nine-year-old what he saw on his workplace (building a railroad), and it stuck. (That's from a lecture in German, wouldn't know how to use that as a source.) I'd like to to write about his mother, the "wild Laya" but probably not notable for Wikipedia standards. - Great cat, looking up as he does ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:57, 31 May 2021 (UTC)

Thank you

A belated thank you for the welcome a couple of weeks ago! I mean it's probably an automatic thing but very nice anyway - Wikipedia can be a bit intimidating. (And apologies if this is the wrong place/format. I don't really know what I'm doing.) I just spotted you're very involved with the Women in Red project, which seems a very good plan indeed. Persicifolia (talk) 11:47, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello, Persicifolia. I am so happy that you've stopped by. Actually, the "welcome template" I left on your talkpage wasn't automatic. Every once in a while, I review "Recent Changes", and noticed you had made an edit but that no one had left a "welcome template" (the thing-y with all the links) so I went ahead and did so myself. As for Wikipedia being intimidating, yup, it can feel that way. After a while, though, I hope you feel settled. Please feel free to drop by my talkpage (or the one for Women in Red) any time! Pretty much, I've always got a cup of coffee by my side and am happy to chat. If I'm not around, there are some chill "pagestalkers" (ping @SusunW and Megalibrarygirl) who might be, though their drink of choice might differ. --Rosiestep (talk) 12:58, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Coffee! Nectar of the gods. Welcome, Persicifolia, feel free to ping me any time and I'll try to help. (2 "u"s, no "a") Glad to have you aboard. SusunW (talk) 13:47, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
What a cheering message to see, thanks so much for taking the time Rosiestep. I've been really enjoying working it all out here but was actually just wondering if I'm made of strong enough stuff for this! (I added an article about someone listed on the women in red project the other day, but clearly messed it up.) Thank you for buoying me up! And I would love a virtual coffee :) SusunW (Please let me know if I'm doing the whole @ thing wrong - totally new to the whole code thing, if that's even the right word!) Persicifolia (talk) 15:27, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Persicifolia I have many, many difficulties with wiki-technology. I research and write. I am not a coder. Most of what I know about coding I copied from what someone else was doing. But because I have no clue about the technology other than the things I use day-in-day-out, I know a bunch of editors who *are* good with technology and coding. (By the way, you can ping more than one person using "yo|Doe|Roe" or "rto|Do|Re|Mi" in {{}}.) It can be daunting, just know you have a community willing to support your success. SusunW (talk) 15:38, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
SusunW Well I'm relieved to hear copying what other people are doing is the way! Can I ask about the two colons at the beginning of the line? I've just copied you and put them in but have no idea what they are. Persicifolia (talk) 15:58, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Persicifolia The colons are indentions. Each one makes the answer indented from the previous post. Look at the top, you had no indent because you were the first post. Rosie replied and used one colon. I replied and used two colons. If one gets too far indented so that the text is "skinny" on the right, you can use od in {{}} to outdent back to the first position. SusunW (talk) 16:04, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

Persicifolia, I just "outdented" so you can see what that looks like, too. BTW, I reviewed the article I think you were referring to, Ursula Jones, made a few tweaks, and removed the templates from the top. Thanks for creating it! --Rosiestep (talk) 16:08, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

I just spotted that Rosiestep - thanks so much! I was just going round in circles reading the guidelines and not being able to work out which bit was the main offender without feedback. The writing style etc here takes adjusting to I think. (I'll add the source for the dob, though not sure now it's sufficient given it's in a Wynne Jones non-fiction book and Ursula Jones is still alive - anyway I'll add the source or delete the date, whichever is best.) If I knew how to add cat pictures, I would! Thank you for the explanation of the colons SusunW - it's really obvious once you know, like a lot here probably! Persicifolia (talk) 16:34, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Persicifolia, Glad to have you on board! Recently, my life has been a little crazy, but if you need help finding stuff or are just frustrated, send me an email. Sometimes I see those before I get a ping on Wikipedia. :) Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:38, 18 June 2021 (UTC)

June songs

some flowers and music for you, with more thanks for consistent improvements around women than the little clicks can say - you were around when I created my first article, and we enjoyed new music - no cat today? --Gerda Arendt (talk) 07:58, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Hi Gerda Arendt, The Sweetbriar roses at Rauenthal look absolutely beautiful! Are they wild or planted in a garden? I really enjoyed reading Graham's biography, your first article(!). BTW, I took the liberty of upgrading its quality rating. As for the cat... recalling the advice of an :old friend, I've taken it on the campaign trail; it'll be back in August. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:34, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
The roses are wild, in abundance, I went by looks but possibly applied a wrong name. - Even a candidate should take watchful care of her talk ;) - When it was my first article, it looked much different, of course, - was deleted in minutes. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 15:43, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Gerda Arendt, you know what they say about a rose by any other name... Rosiestep (talk) 15:59, 22 June 2021 (UTC)

Thanks, Gerda Arendt. SV, RIP. Hope you have a chance to enjoy the music at that festival; this, right? --Rosiestep (talk) 17:24, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
well, you open the first link and scroll down to the bottom (as of today, but I'll keep adding) and see how much I enjoyed the opening concert and the surprise party by our president - first time I "shot" three celebrities in one picture, and I wrote only one of the three articles ;) - the festival article was among my first, DYK? - the livestream is from the second day --Gerda Arendt (talk) 18:10, 29 June 2021 (UTC)
