Odyssey Percussion Theatre
[edit]I have added links that I think will help add to the validity of this entry. Please take a look and let me know if this will keep from this entry from being deleted. It falls in line with several other organizations as in the following examples. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Crown http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Devils_Drum_and_Bugle_Corps http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverside_Community_College http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Knights_Drum_and_Bugle_Corps
Please forgive me for not responding correct. I am new and still learning the ropes a bit.
I assert that being "Percussion Independent World" is parallel to being Division 1 status, since there's no classification as Division 1 in WGI. PIW is the highest classification a group can be in WGI. What is notable about this is that Odyssey achieved this status first year out and made finals. This is something that is not normally done. Most groups come out in Independent Open (Division 2) and then get bumped up after a year of competition. Those that have come out in Independent World traditionally hasn't done well. Odyssey was established in Independent World straight out of the gate and finished in the top 6.
Would this group not fall under the Organization WikiProject?
Other note about this organization is how it has brought many people with varying backgrounds together for a common goal. There are former members now on tour with Blast that are on staff with Odyssey as well as former staff that is now on tour with Cirque du Soleil and from local universities (Auburn University, University of Georgia and Georgia Tech).
Please reconsider speedy deletion. Johnwegl 02:44, 25 July 2007 (UTC)JohnweglJohnwegl 02:44, 25 July 2007 (UTC) Johnwegl
So who decides that this isn't a "niche" competition (seeing that over 35k were at finals this year, upwards sells of products, DCI being involved ((Phatom, Blue Knights, Santa Clara)) and So You Think You Can Dance judge Mia Michaels )? Also, it was speedy deleted the first time because of the way it was written. Looking back at the original format I would agree to that deletion. The second deletion I don't agree with. It did provide history and merit. It was a creditable article. I guess my question would be when would a group be considered and not deleted? How much time has to pass?

More San Antonio (film) deletion
[edit]I just scanned through your archived page of responses and now I understand. You do enjoy deleting articles when you can. Help yourself, and enjoy.Skymasterson 06:38, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
San Antonio (film) deletion
[edit]Why would you want to delete the entry I just added about the film "San Antonio?" It's a fondly remembered and fairly important Errol Flynn movie which was co-written by W.R. Burnett and Alan Le May, as I noted in the article (the only instance I know of in which they worked together). The article is brief because I just began it, but my experience with Wikipedia is that once you begin an article it blossoms pretty quickly as people find it and as I return to it myself. To delete it at this point because of its brevity makes no sense to me, unless you simply enjoy deleting articles when you can. If that's the case, though, delete away with pleasure.Skymasterson 06:34, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Proposed Article "Gooseneck Lamp"
[edit]It's long overdue and must be covered.. Note, imagine a world without the concept of the gooseneck lmap.. No "War of the Worlds" tripods (note original tripods had gooseneck legs).. No "Docter Octapus", spiderman character, used goosneck claws. Goosneck lamp is the only modern day contribution of the Art Nouveau movement started by ones like Antoni Gaudi (do google image search on "Gaudi") and Louis Comfort Tiffany (as in "breakfast at tiffany's"). The fundamentals of Art Nouveau was architecture, furniture, art imitating nature.. It was a protest (like sensory overload) against the Industrial Age.
this isnt neologism it came straight from the runescape website. whether or not they consider it a new word is unkown
"Slovetzian Language"
[edit]Please do not delete it. Please allow time for any credible references and evidence for the article to stand.
I made the article after watching the movie Beautician and the Beast. The fictional language "Slovetzian" was based on Slavic languages according to the film's producers and screenwriters. But I need credible evidence from any Wikipedia user who speaks a Slavic language and who has watched the movie to confirm this. (I don't speak any Slavic language whatsoever) Please allow the article to be "fixed" rather than be deleted. Sorry for starting the article with no evidence and any references. But hopefully I and/or other users will come up with credible evidence to add more now. Please allow time for any credible references to be added to this article in order to be allowed to stand and raise it up to Wikipedia standarts. Sorry for any problems caused.

Spectio submission
[edit]I recently submitted a new article on Spectio. I would rather, as suggested, create it using standard guidelines or to have others more knowledgable about the subject create it, but there seems to be a never ending loop when trying to follow the directions posted about how to do either. The loop could be in my head or it could be in the sequence of directions I am being asked to follow. If you have any healthy suggestions for a newbie, please let me know.

Jose Bent Deletion
[edit]Hi, I got a message from you after my article was deleted for not being noteable, the person I'm on about is a very real and collusive figure in irish politics, and i hope you could help me get it back up, It's important to a lot of young Irish people and I would appriciate some feedback. cheers —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Delightfuld (talk • contribs).
In Response to the Jose Bent article
[edit]Now if you actually did read the article and click on the link I provided (Here it is) http://www.socialistparty.net/pub/pages/socialist017jun06/8.htm You will find that it was written by none other than one Joe Bent. The picture in the corner with the guy holding up the sign saying end of health crisis is the person in question. Now if you want third party confirmation, I can give you an e-mail address of a correspondent, If your looking for sources on the net their bloody well isnt much, i could scan some from the evening echo the following week, but I think it's a absurd that a person from Kentucky in the U.S is disputing the reality of a real life political figure in Ireland. Get off your high horse mate. thanks
realguy response
[edit]I apologize if it sounded like an attack on your home state, I was merely stating that a person from Kentucky would not be not be familiar with Irish provincial politics, it's not unfair to assume that would it? Of course you could always Google it , however I realize I'm fighting a losing battle against you in particular, I understand that people have to be stringent for the upkeep of this site, however I feel that it is probably just a learning curve for me, I would like to contribute to this site further, and will do in the future, and hopefully I'll encounter more helpful contributors along the way.God bless amadán

Braxton Audio, iM1A2 Abrams
[edit]Hi, sorry if my Braxton Audio entry came across as a personal attack. All information was accurate. German design, manufactured in China, inaccurate specifications on the boxes. Everything was factual, and measured by myself in my studio, and by my colleague in his. Braxton is somewhat of a mystery manufacturer, and I have found many discussions where people are trying to learn about them. I figured I would start a Wikipedia entry to get the ball rolling, and entered the only facts, positive, negative, and neutral that I knew... Anyway, I have made a new entry linked to "Interactive Magic" called "iM1A2 Abrams". It is very accurate, although I am worried about one thing: I mentioned the two minor, well-known bugs in the game. I am worried this will be perceived as an attack, even though the vast majority of the entry is neutral or positive. I'm confused about what is inappropriate. If positive or neutral facts are appropriate, why not negative ones? They are part of reality, and are worthy of mention. I don't know where that line is, or when it is considered to be crossed. If there are any issues, please let me know and I can remove them. These ARE facts, however. Some of the points are rather open to perspective, (The common likes and dislikes of the game from users) but those are easily identifiable as opinions from the masses. (As found on many discussion boards and professional reviews, and some I stumbled across myself) I have seen MANY Wikipedia entries with statements that are obviously abstract yet perfectly valid views, (anyone with common sense would identify them as such) and tried to use them as examples and stay within the boundaries. Just looking for some input if possible, so may become a more proficient member of the community and avoid conflicts. Thanks! Grifter Grifts
Tagging of Computer Science Conference Rankings
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Computer Science Conference Rankings. I do not think that Computer Science Conference Rankings fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because WP:OR just isn't a speedy delete criterion, See WP:DRV#Four Reigns for more on this. Use prod or Afd if you want to.. I request that you consider not re-tagging Computer Science Conference Rankings for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by DESiegel (talk • contribs)
Re:Toy Vault, Inc. notability
[edit]Toy Vault, Inc. is a very well known company famous for its line of Monty Python toys and its adaptation of Tolkien LOTR novels into action figures in the late 90's. The company is referenced in many other wiki entries, including those of Ron Spencer, Mothman, Mafia Game to name a few. A quick google search will link you to many articles and websites showcasing the company and its products. If your looking for hard press: http://www.bizjournals.com/louisville/stories/2005/02/14/daily27.html] I find no difference in adding this company to the list of 50+ toy companies currently listed. I know the page is short on information at this time, but I was still logged in and editing when it got hit with the speedy delete.

Great work monitoring newly created pages. TeaDrinker 00:48, 30 June 2007 (UTC) |
Have you ever considered trying to be an admin? You appear to have more edits than most, have been with the project a while, and have consistently done superb work. I think giving you admin tools would greatly help the project, and I would be happy to nominate you if it is something you'd be interested in. Since one of the things listed on requests for adminship is edit summary usage, some people may raise questions there (but I think it is a fairly minor issue). -TeaDrinker 00:48, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
- Your caution is admirable, although judging by your contributions it looks like your judgement on speedy deletions seems pretty sound. It seems pretty rare that you tag an article and it is moved to prod or AfD, much less kept. In addition to patrolling new pages, of course, you could also look over the articles which other editors tagged for deletion and keep that backlog to a minimum. I am confident that getting you the admin tools would benefit the project. In any event, keep up the great work an have a good break from Wikipedia. Cheers, --TeaDrinker 17:33, 30 June 2007 (UTC)
I removed the speedy deletion tag you placed on San Antonio (film). WP:CSD#A1 ("Very short articles providing little or no context") states, "Limited content is not in itself a reason to delete if there is enough context for the article to qualify as a valid stub", and I believe there is enough context for the article to qualify as a valid stub. Also, it's important to provide edit summaries when adding deletion tags to articles. Thanks. Extraordinary Machine 14:30, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

Incidents at Six Flags
[edit]First, before we continue the conversation, let me be clear that I agree with everyone about how horrible the incidents are. Please do not take my comments on this topic (either specific to this incident or to all incidents in general) as uncaring in any way. My focus of this conversation is from the viewpoint of creating/editing an unbiased WP article. That said...
There is a huge difference in terms of significance from an encyclopedic viewpoint between the KK accident (a snapped cable) and the fire at Great Adventure's haunted house (that has its own article due to the complexities of the incident and the following investigation). The amount of press given the incident is no indicator of how much space we devote to a single incident; the majority of the printed press articles are merely reprints of the AP story that came from Louisville(?). This week especially we see a difference in how the press is covering amusement park accidents - KK is getting the most because of the uniqueness of the injury, Playland is getting some as it occurred in the same week, and there's almost no mention of the girl who got injured in the teacup at a minor Florida park. From WP's viewpoint, all incidents that are listed are treated the same with regards to the summary that is written, with no emphasis on one event vs another in terms of notariety. With regards to the KK incident, there really hasn't been any new information released beyond what's already listed in the incidents summary. I just took another look at what I reverted, and it's merely a copy of what's already on the incidents page itself -- there's no need for duplication of information on the park pages as well if the incidents pages are where the information is being added. (There's an ongoing conversation about why info is not posted only on the parks pages -- has to do with ease of maintenance and monitoring: who wants to edit/monitor hundreds of park pages when we only need to keep track of the incidents pages themselves? From a research viewpoint it makes it easier to see all park accidents in one location instead of having to visit each park page as well.
Anyway, I hope this answered your question(s). If it didn't, feel free to drop me a line and we can chat some more. SpikeJones 12:11, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
- Drop the "heavily publicized" portion, and I can see your point of phrasing a better link to the incidents page. WP is not a place for including opinion or hyperbole. Feel free to put what you think will work (with phrasing that would also work for other, not as publicized, incidients). SpikeJones 21:54, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
Battlefield 2 modification
[edit]The main article for Battlefield 2 is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battlefield_2.
The sub category http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Battlefield_2_mods,which is a modification of Battlefield 2, is where I placed the article about the modification Blackopsmercenaries.
Since the top level category goes into great detail about Battlefield 2, would it not be redundant to repeat the top category in a sub category?
Fortunately, as it is for every sub category, the context is provided by the category hierarchy, which is common throughout the Wiki structure.
In any event, a short article is not a valid reason for deletion. That the topic lends itself to a quick rendering does not say the topic is without value unless discussed in great length.
Goodpaster 20:36, 4 July 2007 (UTC)
Fitting within the CSD
[edit]Hey. You are doing a lot of great tagging work. Keep it up! Just one issue. CSD A7 is applicable to a short and defined list of topics. For example, it does not apply to geographic locations such as Gugera Branch which you tagged for speedy deletion on notability grounds. I did delete that article, but because it lacked sufficient context under CSD A1. Cheers.--Fuhghettaboutit 05:55, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

Could you please tell me how I can create a new page for the band Malakai. When I search for it, it takes me straight to Malachi without giving me the option to create a new page.
Thanks
Unspecified source for Image:Alkalmbach.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Alkalmbach.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:59, 9 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. MER-C 12:59, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Very unique
[edit]I think "very unique" is altogether TOO notable. Maybe it's not an article, but rather belongs somewhere in the policy at something like Wikipedia:Very unique. At the least there should be a bot to remove it everywhere. Gregbard 01:34, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

- An article titled "Media Bistro" should be about Media Bistro, which is a notable web site in and of itself, and not focusing singly on a controversial ad. This article is misleading in its title. You can fix it by writing a full-fledged article about Media Bistro as a whole, with a section called "Controversial advertising" or something like that as a part of the overall article. Otherwise, the article is out of context with its title. Moreover, your article seems to be skirting NPOV policy as well. I'm not sure of the video is as controversial as you make it out to be, though I've only seen the short segment. Realkyhick 02:08, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Either stick a stub tag on it or delete it. I don't think you should order volunteers to write an entire article. You obviously have a strong viewpoint about this and will likely do as you please. This experience will serve as a reminder to me not to create articles.Skywriter 02:37, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
you wrote:
- The only strong opinion I have about this is that the article is misleading. It is titled as an article about Media Bistro, but it instead is about a single product advertised on the site. You also obviously have strong feelings about this subject. If you think that this is the only video, seminar or other type of educational material that attempts to show companies and PR type how to game the Wikipedia system, then you are sadly mistaken. I don't like the idea either, but there is plenty that Wikipedia editors can do to stop it. I know, because I tag such articles for speedy deletion almost every day, and there are many others who do so as well.
- Don't have a little hissy fit about reminding why not to create articles on Wikipedia anymore. You have obviously been around here long enough to know how things work. You simply can't write an article that is misleading in its title. See WP:COATRACK, among other guidelines. Realkyhick 02:46, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Oh, quit exaggerating. You have the option of adding to the article yourself or stump tagging it yet you choose to argue. I think it worthy of inclusion or I wouldn't have spent the time. You obviously don't. You have some sort of power to kill articles. I don't. And, I don't feel like spending any more time arguing about it. There are plenty of articles around here with many more serious problems than this. I'm sure someone from Media Bistro will come along to create a flattering article about themselves, and no one will give a damn. Like I said, this is a lesson in not creating articles. Fair use rationale for Image:Barrybinghamsr.gif
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Barrybinghamsr.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. comment misplaced on userpage
[edit]I posted the Erica Keel page this evening, in order to link it to an item on the Violence against LGBT people article, as part of a project to add hate crimes cases that have not yet been included on Wikipedia.
What are the guidelines for posting items like this? With the pages I created for other cases, I created a summary item on the Violence against LGBT people article, and then created the page from that link. With this one, I just searched for the name, created the page, and then linked it to the article. Did that make a difference? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TerranceDC (talk • contribs).

Tagging of Score One for the Little Guy
[edit]I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Score One for the Little Guy. I do not think that Score One for the Little Guy fits any of the speedy deletion criteria because There are claims of notability there, although it might not pass an afd. Claims include: "That night alone over 120 copies of their debut album were sold", "Corey became one of the most popular contestants ever to appear in the competition", "Score One also made guest appearances on UofR Radio and discussed the album". - Thank you. i agree it's somewhat marginal, but I'm tring to be rather strict with A7 speedies, because i see so many that really aren't proper. DES (talk) 17:40, 30 July 2007 (UTC)
About Mathis Records
[edit]This page was originally deleted because it was not found to "notable" enough for wikipedia...Despite the fact that The artists, producers, and bands associated with this record label are known collectively to hundreds of people, while, at the same time, there are wikipedia pages on types of cheeses which people rarely hear of... The only reason that some of those types of cheeses are widely heard of are probubly because of bored people scanning through wikipedia. From What I Understand, wikipedia is an encyclopedia, which like all encyclopedias, is used to distribute knowledge, which is what is being done by making this article. |- i dont mean to sound like a flammer (hopefully i have not) but i am merely saying that it is sorta hypocrytical for wikipedia to have information on little known cheeses, but not on record labels that are probubly better well known..(23:26, july 30, 2007)
Furthermore on mathis records
[edit]My appologies, i afraid there has been a missunderstanding on the semi-protection templates. I was under the impression that it was appropriate for it to be there in the instances of record labels, and i did not mean it to be any way of preventing the subvert speedy-deletion processes. Rony Fahed
[edit]Note that I have deleted your speedy template from Rony Fahed as there was a claim of notability (being a member of the Lebanon national basketball team) and thusly the article is not a speedy candidate. Note that I am not the author of the article. -Drdisque 03:47, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What works as a source?
I have added pictures, and just a couple of minutes ago some newspaper clippings, that are hard facts of this articles originality. What makes a good source? A link to an html page? I am not much of a computers person and on this subject all my sources are taken from the original archives. They are scanned. Does this not count as a valid enough source? Please help me understand what is needed so that Wikipedia will accept my article. I would really appreciate your help as I am confused. All my ORIGINAL items seem to not be enough. Thank you in advance. Constantine Adraktas 21:14, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Newspaper or magazine stories will work just fine, even if they aren't found online. The FT, Time and the Guardian are superbly credible sources. You should try to give the name of the publication, date, author (if shown), and page number. (It works the same way you used to do on term papers in school. Yeah, I hated those, too.) If the source is available online somewhere, that's even better because you can include the link that others can click on and go straight to the story. There's a template called "cite news" where you just fill in the blanks. Also see [section on how to insert footnotes]. In fact, you would do well to read the whole article at "Citations".
The photos are another problem. If those photos were from a copyrighted source, then they probably can't be used at all because of copyright laws. There are lot of other editors and admins here at Wikipedia that get pretty worked up about photos that may not be free to use, sometimes a little too worked up for my taste. But if the photos were part of a government publication, they are probably free to use — that's the case here in the States, and I think it's that way in the UK too.
The subject of the article is clearly notable (and interesting). Just rough in the information and sources as best as you can and we'll worry about the aesthetics later. You can contact me on my user talk page if you need more help. Realkyhick 03:50, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
Update: Mr. Adraktas, it is apparent that you are using this article, and related ones, to promote your particular point of view about the company's history. Because of your confrontational editing, you have been blocked and will likely continue to be given your course of action. Under these circumstances, I can't be much help. DEAR REALKYHICK
1. ON THE FT, TIMES AND EVENING STANDARD
The Images I posted are scannings of the very articles. The articles appeared in 1971 and 1973 and, unfortunately, the above mentioned Newspapers do not go that far back on-line.
2. THE PHOTOS
The photos are mine and, consequently, if there is a question of copyright, then that is my copyright. I gave a lot of my photos to Newsspapers, The Electricity Council etc See the photos of the VDL 856K in parked in Mayfair. The VDL 856K was my car, the car I was driving in London for 4 years, and I took the photos near my flat (I live in 59 South Audley Street in Mayfair)
3. CONTACTING YOU (It seems I have managed it
I do not know how to add in the User page of somebody else!
4. PROMOTING MY VIEWS
With all due respect, you are 100 per cent wrong. I am only trying: (a) To restore the truth (b) Give the WIKIPEDIA readers Facts and Figures and a variety of photos so that "they can feel as if they were there when when it was all happening"
SINCERELY
CONSTANTINE ADRAKTAS
