rail screws
Peter, I've looked around at the net to find out more on a screw. I've seen similar newer versions of this one but wanted to know how old is this and the value. The threads are more evenly twisted that the manufactured edges. The top is stamped with a letter F and is a uneven square. My opinion its older that the ones shown. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.178.178.34 (talk) 18:52, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Refs go after punctuation
Hi Peter! I know I already mentioned this in our dialog on my talk page, but I just wanted to remind you that citations belong after the sentence ending punctuation—not before it. In other words, this is incorrect:
...end of a sentence.
Whereas this would be the correct way:
...end of a sentence.

Displacement of Engine of course, you'd no get very far in a bus with a ten tonne tare weight with a 680 cu in fuel tank. Note Leyland named its post-war engines after their displacement in cubic inches. Stephen Allcroft (talk) 15:40, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

I must agree. If I had the time I'd take on the Curb Weight title, I do not see why we can't have unladen weight, in English English Curb means ban or curtail. As it is I'd rather put my limited wiki time to the completion of the Guy Arab Article Stephen Allcroft (talk) 13:36, 29 May 2015 (UTC)
- Unladen weight redirects to curb weight so tare weight would be a better choice since it is neutral i.e. it covers all vehicles, with or without motor. Peter Horn User talk 14:26, 29 May 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Magellan Corporation

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, pages that meet certain criteria may be deleted at any time.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Plymouth Locomotive Works wikilinks
Hi Peter. I just saw you putting a link for Plymouth Locomotive Works at the top of Plymouth and its dab page. As you may have noticed, the top of Plymouth is quite crowded with links at the moment. I came to ask why you think the locomotive works warrants additional notability? At first glance, it doesn't appear to be as notable as Plymouth, MA or the car maker. Regards, Jolly Ω Janner 21:25, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- No more and no less notable than an Plymouth automobile. Peter Horn User talk 21:30, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

- No particular reason other than that I'm a railfan. You are perhaps an automobile fan. It is a matter of perception. Peter Horn User talk 21:47, 28 October 2015 (UTC)
- I'm neither a rail or automobile fan. Based on traffic statistics (http://stats.grok.se), the car maker had about 16 times as many views this month. Although traffic stats should be used cautiously, I can't see any unbiased reason to list it at the top of the articles, so I will restore them both to their former revisions. If you would still like them to be at the top, please feel free to start a new top on Talk:Plymouth to gain consensus on the decision. Thanks Jolly Ω Janner 22:00, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Guide bar
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Guide bar, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly-defined criteria, then it may be soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. (See section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
- It is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. (See section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Wikipedia has standards for the minimum necessary information to be included in short articles; you can see these at Wikipedia:Stub. Length of a Kinki Sharyo SLRV
I'm not quite sure of this, but I believe the length of a Kinki Sharyo SLRV to be 123 feet 6 inches (37.64 m) and an original LRV (which didn't have the low-floor "C" car) to be 92 feet 8 inches (28.24 m). I'm looking principally at the Kinki Sharyo technical data and DART's factsheet for these figures. I think the confusion is coming from the fact that the SLRVs are articulated three-car "vehicles" that are commonly referred to as "cars". As far as I can tell, one three-car vehicle is the shortest train that DART can run, while the maximum theoretical length a train could be (due to platform length) is four vehicles, a total of 12 cars. I'd greatly appreciate you taking a second look at the numbers before I try to clarify them on the article. (I've additionally contacted TJH2018, who has also edited the article, about this issue.) Thanks! Michael Barera (talk) 03:35, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- I'll look at your data. A 123 feet 6 inches (37.64 m) car can not be rigid. There would have to be one articulation, if not two. Peter Horn User talk 03:45, 11 June 2016 (UTC)
- @Michael Barera: OK, I see what's happening. There are two articulations (jacobs bogies) between the 123 feet 6 inches (37.64 m), which is the length over couplers. Now it makes sense. Peter Horn User talk 21:05, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Coal bin
The article Coal bin has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Coal bunker → Tender (rail)|coal bunker
Hi Peter, you've been inserting links to coal bunker into several articles since about yesterday, but why make it show up as "coal bunker → coal bunker"? - André Kritzinger (talk) 17:11, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
- Hello Andre
The answer is found to be in Coal bin and talk:Coal bin#Boal bunker. It was my notion that [[coal bunker should redirect to tender (rail) but in some pages such as Russian battleship Slava that would have been nonsense. "coal bunker (coal bunker)" might be an alternative. This is tricky. Btw in the South African tender and loco pages the following corrections/clarifications are in order: Drawbar, bell-shaped link-and-pin & AAR knuckle. @Andre Kritzinger: Peter Horn User talk 17:47, 1 September 2016 (UTC)- A locomotive tender can have multiple functions, the most usual being to carry water and coal. It therefore usually has a water tank at the bottom and a coal bunker on top. What it does not have, is a coal bunker → coal bunker, which several of your edits made it show up as.
- I'm fixing the coupler links gradually since I'm working though all the articles (again) anyway. - André Kritzinger (talk) 18:05, 1 September 2016 (UTC)

South African Class U 2-6-2+2-6-2
Hi Peter, I rolled back your edits on South African Class U 2-6-2+2-6-2.
- A Garratt has no "coal bunker in the tender" since there is no tender.
- The two additional mass units (long tons and metric tons) for all weight items clutter up the already huge infobox. I prefer to use long ton/Kg only, since the accurate metric ton figure is already "visible" in the Kg weight.
- In my opinion, links to coal, steam locomotive, bunker, etc. in all locomotive articles is overlinking. -- André Kritzinger (talk) 22:26, 1 September 2016 (UTC)
SNCF 040.DF
I noticed that SNCF 040.DF (created recently by Iain Bell) has the following in Infobox locomotive:

The first convert is broken (kw should be kW), however no error is shown on the page. It looks like the fact that "poweroutput cont" has an entry means that "poweroutput" is ignored. What should happen in the infobox? Should the first convert be omitted? I don't need to understand the details—I'm just hoping you will fix it. Thanks. Johnuniq (talk) 05:11, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
- @Johnuniq: @Iain Bell: I'm not an expert on this, but kw is definitely wrong and should indeed be kW. Any concerns like the above should be posted on the talk page of Template:Infobox locomotive or such. The template experts will take care of this. Peter Horn User talk 13:56, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Hello again
I've stumbled across a four page article about this tramway by Peter Semmens in Railway Magazine of July 1964. He gives the gauge as 750 mm (2 ft 5+1⁄2 in). The Wikipedia article on St Michael's Mount gives the gauge as Scotch gauge, which I read as 4' 6". Is this a known debate, or even worth pursuing? Kind regards, Dave DavidAHull (talk) 08:37, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- @DavidAHull: Hello again. Before doing anything at all one needs to create at least a stub for St. Michael's Mount Tramway, which according to the list of funicular railways is located in St Michael's Mount. That article does not mention this tramway. Once the stub has been created we can continue on the talk page of the new stub. Peter Horn User talk 16:07, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- @DavidAHull: Hello again. The list of track gauges shows 2 ft 5 in (737 mm) with the following reference: Dart, Maurice (2005). Cornwall Narrow Gauge including the Camborne & Redruth tramway. Middleton Press. ISBN 1-904474-56-X. That makes it three gauges. "The plot gets thicker". Peter Horn User talk 16:30, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- @DavidAHull: And British industrial narrow gauge railways@General freight gives 2 ft 5 in (737 mm) as well. Peter Horn User talk 16:41, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

- I've had a first stab at St Michael's Mount Tramway Dave DavidAHull (talk) 14:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- @DavidAHull: All because you put "St" without a period instead of "St." with a period I had to create a REDIRECT page. St. Michael's Mount Tramway has three articles linked to it. Anyway, thanks for your effort. Peter Horn User talk 15:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- To create the name I copied "St Michael's Mount" from the Wikipedia page then added " Tramway", seeking consistency. I don't understand why you "had" to create a REDIRECT article, or what you had to redirect to or from. I don't understand the "Which?" next to "gas" which suggests I used weasel words; are you seeking "Gas-turbine" or some such, or am I supposed to play guessing games? The original article, written by a respected author, simply said "...a gas engine drove the winding gear by means of a belt." The link you have added to a second online item by Hows triggers a "When we visited this site, we found it exhibited one or more risky behaviors" warning from MacAfee. Anyway, thanks for bothering.DavidAHull (talk) 17:25, 30 November 2016 (UTC)

- I've had a first stab at St Michael's Mount Tramway Dave DavidAHull (talk) 14:21, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- My apologies. As I said it was "St" versus "St.". The period after "St" makes all the difference. St. Michael's Mount Tramway was a red link which has three articles linked to it. So as not to revise three articles I redirected St. Michael's Mount Tramway, just click on it, to St Michael's Mount Tramway. OK 'gas engine would have avoided any question on my part. Peter Horn User talk 18:54, 30 November 2016 (UTC)
- I forgot to "ping" you @DavidAHull: Peter Horn User talk 20:58, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for explaining, apology accepted. I wonder if you could please explain one or two things in your contributions. 1. You are much more "link aware" than I, or most authors. This seems a good way to go, but I wonder where to draw the line. For example, you edited the article to include wood and metal, but not "rotate" or "granite", which I would have thought could cause more puzzlement. 2. What English should we choose? I would have thought that the largest readership of the tramway article will be British English users, so gradient would be more natural than slope. "Slope" is of course perfectly understandable, but If you read 1000 UK railway books I'll give you a dollar for every use of "slope" if you agree to give me a cent for every use of "gradient". 3. You appear to have generated conversions of gradient from 1 in 10 to 10% etc and of horsepower to kW "by hand". Is there no Template able to do this? I've tried hard to find such things in Template:Convert, but have concluded that the explanatory pages are written to show off not to edify. Now I'll try my first Ping, here goes...@Peter Horn: Kind regards, DaveDavidAHull (talk) 21:37, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- I forgot to "ping" you @DavidAHull: Peter Horn User talk 20:58, 1 December 2016 (UTC)
- @DavidAHull: Either "gradient", "slope" or "grade" would be linked as follows gradient gradient, slope slope or even grade grade. I have no personal preference but slope, gradient and grade don't quite work, just click on them. For converting hp to kW, I use template:Convert, 12 hp 12 horsepower (8.9 kW). Percentage is North American usage, both Canada and the US, and in this case I had to resort to my TI-36XSOLAR. Eg 100x(1:1.9) or 100x(1/1.9). There is no provision for that in template:Convert OK, "granite" → granite and "rotate" → rotate rotate. By the way I tend to use Canadian English which resembles UK English but is strongly influenced by American English. Btw, the continent of Europe uses promille eg 1 in 1000, etc. Peter Horn User talk 22:31, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Swedish locomotives in North America
Hello! I happened to see your questions about the locomotives of Belfast and Moosehead Lake Railroad (1871–2007) and Hull–Chelsea–Wakefield Railway. They had a SJ B and SJ E (no English article yet) locomotive, respectively, and I have put that information in the articles. I believe they purchased the locomotives independently of each other. - We now have an article on the E and E2 classes (and E5 as a bonus). ACo2c (talk) 11:58, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
@ACo2c: Thanks. I'll update the template if that has not yet been done. Peter Horn User talk 14:21, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

- @ACo2c: When I opened the template there was no indication that the revision had been made. So I made it. I take it that your new article is a translation from Swedish. As far as steam locomotives are concerned there are still two red links on the template, namely E9 (ex HNJ G12) & Stortyskarna. By the way, I deem the term "metric ton" as being too American and therefore to be used in US based topics only. Everywhere else, including Canada, use "tonne". Both in Canada and in Great Britain, and in addition Australia and New Zealand, only the term tonne has legal status in commerce. Peter Horn User talk 14:54, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- Re metric tons: I actually agree with you, but this is what is produced by Template:Convert. If you know some way of changing it I will be glad to know.
- Re redlinks: I can certainly try writing these articles, but they are rather randomly chosen. I would consider some others more important, but on the other hand someone must care about these types, since they have been added. I will probably start with the HNJ type.
- Actually I do not translate from the Swedish Wikipedia; their articles are rarely worth it, and they use some sources that would be unpopular here (blog posts etc.). I own all the books listed as sources in "my" articles. ACo2c (talk) 15:13, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- @ACo2c: I see what happened. You used 5.2 MT 5.2 metric tons (5.1 long tons; 5.7 short tons) whereas I would have used 5.2 t 5.2 tonnes (5.1 long tons; 5.7 short tons). Instead of "MT" use "t" the SI symbol for "tonne".
- As for the Swedish articles, eg sv:E-lok och E2-lok, they could be a useful source of additional images. Peter Horn User talk 15:45, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
- I only knew of MT. Thank you! ACo2c (talk) 15:52, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2017 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 3 December 2017 (UTC)
The article Bus routes of the former CIT La Presqu'Île has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
Wikipedia is not a travel guide
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Ajf773 (talk) 07:17, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for April 20
Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Liebherr Group, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Crane (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)
It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 09:39, 20 April 2018 (UTC)

Cherry Street Strauss Trunnion Bascule Bridge has been mentioned
Though infobox discussions are usually not fun, there is some banter going on at User talk:Eric Corbett#Infobox, and the infobox for this bridge was mentioned. A comment was made about its 'sheer length'. You appear to be the author of the particular infobox per this edit. Actually I could see the argument for shortening this infobox somewhat. (When you last touched it, it was much shorter). Of course you don't have to respond, but this seemed like a rare chance for possible meeting of the minds. Capitalization
Hi, Peter. Just writing to say please don't use a capital P if you add "parallel overhead lines" to the infoboxes of additional trolleybus-system articles. It is not a name, so the WP Manual of Style effectively says the P should be capitalized only if it is the first word of a section heading (as it is in the Overhead lines article) or the first word in an infobox field if the same infobox uses capital letters for items (which varies between articles). - @DPL bot: This was done deliberately and needs on correction as such. Peter Horn User talk 12:16, 28 June 2018 (UTC)
- Please see WP:INTDABLINK. That's why the bot detected it as an error, and would have continued to do so. I've changed it to force the link you added to go via the redirect page that has "(disambiguation)" in the name, which nowadays is the way these are supposed to be done. (By the way, I have nothing to do with that bot, but am just trying to help, since I received a couple of similar error messages myself before I learned the then-new policy, a few years ago.) Benny Marinelli
Hello Mr. Horn, While trying to find information on the Jockey Benny Marinelli, I cam across what appears to be edits you made regarding Mary Immaculate Hospital (Queens) (ref. Wiki.)Benny was the great uncle of my fiancée Robin and I've been trying to find out some history.
Thanks!

Saint Michel Boulevard listed at Redirects for discussion
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Saint Michel Boulevard. Since you had some involvement with the Saint Michel Boulevard redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 23:00, 18 September 2018 (UTC)
Lamm's Fireless Engine
I see where you have put a link in the St. Charles Streetcar Line article to Lamm's Fireless Engine, but there does not seem to be such an article. Perhaps you are creating it. Don't you think the link should be withheld until the article exists? HGFriedman (talk) 17:16, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Ah, never mind. I see you made a similar change to the Streetcars of New Orleans article, but misspelled it. I have fixed that. And I think the upper case on the words Fireless Engine is appropriate, as that is what Lamm called his invention. HGFriedman (talk) 17:22, 19 September 2018 (UTC)
Interesting suggestions
Thank you!🙂👍--Avenger on wiki (talk) 20:31, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Thank you
Merci pour Distribution aux Consommateurs mais je crois que vous n’aviez pas tellement bien compris, je vais vous l’expliquer en anglais:
On my sandbox User:Avenger on wiki/sandbox, you will see an updated version of the article with corrections and more references that I added.
On my sandbox, simply click edit and copy the source text from the line of infobox (with the mouse select all text then with right click button of the mouse and click copy).
After, on the article of Consumers Distributing, click on edit, erase all the source text of the article from the infobox (don’t erase the first line), then below the first line (second line) you right click button of the mouse and click paste, after you can publish it.
If you want you can review it before but I don’t found errors.
Thank you again! 😀👍Avenger on wiki (talk) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.194.220.146 (talk) 16:30, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
- @Avenger on wiki:. I simply erased the original infobox and replaced it with the infobox from your sandbox. Much faster. Peter Horn User talk 17:59, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks
Thank you for Consumers Distributing again but two references were not added and some characters were not added too, now you can check the sandbox that has now only paragraphs to make corrections: User:Avenger on wiki/sandbox
First paragraph on my sandbox is at the line to replace characters at « Internet shopping before the Internet », like this.
The second paragraph on my sandbox is the logo missing and removing characters " at Toy City and Toyville words.
The third paragraph on my sandbox is missing the reference from CBC News after the first sentence of that paragraph.
The fourth paragraph on my sandbox is the last sentence with reference to add in the article, for that sentence, you can modify them if you think that’s not correctly composed.
Again is easier if you copy and paste the text source like I said before, and replace the text source of the paragraphs at the right place in the text source of the article of Consumers Distributing. (I don’t know why administrators don’t like me, all that modifications are really on the web with the source I founded)
Thank you!😁✌️👍Avenger on wiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by 104.194.220.241 (talk) 18:21, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
