reporting names with no edits
Please don't report usernames that don't have any edits. It's a waste of everyone's time. We only block usernames when they have edited. There are many many usernames that are made that never do anything. Secretlondon (talk) 17:28, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- See my response at WP:UAA. Blatant violations require blocking even if no edits are made - read the username policy. Patient Zerotalk 17:31, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- Besides, Secretlondon, if you don't block editors who make no edits, why did you block the St. James' Community Sailing Club account? Patient Zerotalk 17:32, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- They made one. You don't understand how high the threshold is for blocking an account with no edits. I only blocked the sailing club as it was a role account. Secretlondon (talk) 17:33, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
- My apologies, Secretlondon - it does appear I've made a mistake in reporting the accounts with no edits. I would contest the "edmanwhore" one you declined as that has a clearly offensive string in it, but I do agree that it will be worth waiting for the "promotional" accounts to edit first. I'll certainly bear this advice in mind for the future, and appreciate your clarification of the policy. Patient Zerotalk 22:48, 25 May 2023 (UTC)

Im curious why you continue to allow extremely biased and false information to abound on the Jared Lakey page; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_Jared_Lakey
There is a ton of false AND misleading information written on that page and there is also content that keeps getting deleted that is true and contributory.
of course-thats why people use wiki as a line in a joke.... 170.10.32.52 (talk) 02:06, 27 May 2023 (UTC)
Tagging pages for speedy deletion
Hello, Patient Zero,
If you tag a page for CSD G5 speedy deletion, please put the name of the sockpuppet master in the field provided in the Twinkle screen. It helps the admin reviewing the page to see whether deletion is appropriate when they know who the sockpuppet master is in case they want to examine a SPI case. Thank you. Liz Read! - I have learned something new today - thank you for that, Gerda! :) You should definitely get back to playing piano - it's such a beautiful instrument, and one I wish I had learned to play properly. I've dipped in and out of playing the bass myself - I did try the guitar for a while, but singing and playing at the same time is something I struggle with, haha! - Following an RfC, editors indefinitely site-banned by community consensus will now have all rights, including sysop, removed.
- As a part of the Wikimedia Foundation's IP Masking project, a new policy has been created that governs the access to temporary account IP addresses. An associated FAQ has been created and individual communities can increase the requirements to view temporary account IP addresses.
- Bot operators and tool maintainers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their tools for the effects of IP masking. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023 and is unlikely to be deployed to the English Wikipedia until some time in 2024.
- The arbitration case World War II and the history of Jews in Poland has been closed. The topic area of Polish history during World War II (1933-1945) and the history of Jews in Poland is subject to a "reliable source consensus-required" contentious topic restriction.
- Following a community referendum, the arbitration policy has been modified to remove the ability for users to appeal remedies to Jimbo Wales.

Gun laws in Poland article
Hi, would you allow at least a few minutes for anyone to complete a sequence of edits? Yeah, it is true the new paragraph in the edited section did not have a reference - for a whole 8 minutes! References are in a separate section and it is often more convenient to edit section-by-section instead of scrolling through the whole wikitext. It takes a little time to copy all the gory details from the legislative source and get the title translation about right. I've put the change back.
- Ah, and now, after re-adding this short paragraph with the reference to the legal act attached, I have noticed you have also reverted my 14 edits done over the last week, including a well-sourced one, some clarifications, and quite a few grammar/typo/style corrections. I am sorry to say that, but reverting a week of work without at least reviewing what was there is not a responsible action by any Wikipedian, specifically not such an experienced one. Did you manage to review 14 changes in less than a minute? your revert has the same timestamp as my edit of the paragraph referenced above. I really hope it was just a misclick. Also there's a question, who's going to fix it now.
- Yes, I often edit anonymously without logging in, it is just my preference in some circumstances.

New Pages Patrol newsletter June 2023
Hello Patient Zero,
Backlog
Redirect drive: In response to an unusually high redirect backlog, we held a redirect backlog drive in May. The drive completed with 23851 reviews done in total, bringing the redirect backlog to 0 (momentarily). Congratulations to Hey man im josh who led with a staggering 4316 points, followed by Meena and Greyzxq with 2868 and 2546 points respectively. See this page for more details. The redirect queue is steadily rising again and is steadily approaching 4,000. Please continue to help out, even if it's only for a few or even one review a day.
Redirect autopatrol: All administrators without autopatrol have now been added to the redirect autopatrol list. If you see any users who consistently create significant amounts of good quality redirects, consider requesting redirect autopatrol for them here.
WMF work on PageTriage: The WMF Moderator Tools team, consisting of Sam, Jason and Susana, and also some patches from Jon, has been hard at work updating PageTriage. They are focusing their efforts on modernising the extension's code rather than on bug fixes or new features, though some user-facing work will be prioritised. This will help make sure that this extension is not deprecated, and is easier to work on in the future. In the next month or so, we will have an opt-in beta test where new page patrollers can help test the rewrite of Special:NewPagesFeed, to help find bugs. We will post more details at WT:NPPR when we are ready for beta testers.
Articles for Creation (AFC): All new page reviewers are now automatically approved for Articles for Creation draft reviewing (you do not need to apply at WT:AFCP like was required previously). To install the AFC helper script, visit Special:Preferences, visit the Gadgets tab, tick "Yet Another AFC Helper Script", then click "Save". To find drafts to review, visit Special:NewPagesFeed, and at the top left, tick "Articles for Creation". To review a draft, visit a submitted draft, click on the "More" menu, then click "Review (AFCH)". You can also comment on and submit drafts that are unsubmitted using the script.
You can review the AFC workflow at WP:AFCR. It is up to you if you also want to mark your AFC accepts as NPP reviewed (this is allowed but optional, depends if you would like a second set of eyes on your accept). Don't forget that draftspace is optional, so moves of drafts to mainspace (even if they are not ready) should not be reverted, except possibly if there is conflict of interest.
Pro tip: Did you know that visual artists such as painters have their own SNG? The most common part of this "creative professionals" criteria that applies to artists is WP:ARTIST 4b (solo exhibition, not group exhibition, at a major museum) or 4d (being represented within the permanent collections of two museums).

New pages patrol newsletter
Hello Patient Zero,
Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!
October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.
PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.
Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.
Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

November Articles for creation backlog drive
Hello Patient Zero:
WikiProject Articles for creation is holding a month long Backlog Drive!
The goal of this drive is to reduce the backlog of unreviewed drafts to less than 2 months outstanding reviews from the current 4+ months. Bonus points will be given for reviewing drafts that have been waiting more than 30 days. The drive is running from 1 November 2023 through 30 November 2023.
You may find Category:AfC pending submissions by age or other categories and sorting helpful.
Barnstars will be given out as awards at the end of the drive.
Why did you remove my edit on Made Kuti.
removing my edit on Made Kuti was totally wrong you could have verified it if you're in doubt instead of removing it. Dotunroy (talk) 00:49, 2 November 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – November 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (October 2023).
Interface administrator changes
- The WMF is working on making it possible for administrators to edit MediaWiki configuration directly. This is similar to previous work on Special:EditGrowthConfig. A technical RfC is running until November 08, where you can provide feedback.
- There is a proposed plan for re-enabling the Graph Extension. Feedback on this proposal is requested.
- Eligible editors are invited to self-nominate themselves from 12 November 2023 until 21 November 2023 to stand in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections.
- Xaosflux, RoySmith and Cyberpower678 have been appointed to the Electoral Commission for the 2023 Arbitration Committee Elections. BusterD is the reserve commissioner.
- Following a motion, the contentious topic designation of Prem Rawat has been struck. Actions previously taken using this contentious topic designation are still in force.
- Following several motions, multiple topic areas are no longer designated as a contentious topic. These contentious topic designations were from the Editor conduct in e-cigs articles, Liancourt Rocks, Longevity, Medicine, September 11 conspiracy theories, and Shakespeare authorship question cases.
- Following a motion, remedies 3.1 (All related articles under 1RR whenever the dispute over naming is concerned), 6 (Stalemate resolution) and 30 (Administrative supervision) of the Macedonia 2 case have been rescinded.
- Following a motion, remedy 6 (One-revert rule) of the The Troubles case has been amended.
- An arbitration case named Industrial agriculture has been opened. Evidence submissions in this case close 8 November.
- The Articles for Creation backlog drive is happening in November 2023, with 700+ drafts pending reviews for in the last 4 months or so. In addition to the AfC participants, all administrators and New Page Patrollers can conduct reviews using the helper script, Yet Another AFC Helper Script, which can be enabled in the Gadgets settings. ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message
Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}
to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:44, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Administrators' newsletter – December 2023
News and updates for administrators from the past month (November 2023).
- Following a talk page discussion, the Administrators' accountability policy has been updated to note that while it is considered best practice for administrators to have notifications (pings) enabled, this is not mandatory. Administrators who do not use notifications are now strongly encouraged to indicate this on their user page.
- Following a motion, the Extended Confirmed Restriction has been amended, removing the allowance for non-extended-confirmed editors to post constructive comments on the "Talk:" namespace. Now, non-extended-confirmed editors may use the "Talk:" namespace solely to make edit requests related to articles within the topic area, provided that their actions are not disruptive.
- The Arbitration Committee has announced a call for Checkusers and Oversighters, stating that it will currently be accepting applications for CheckUser and/or Oversight permissions at any point in the year.
- Eligible users are invited to vote on candidates for the Arbitration Committee until 23:59 December 11, 2023 (UTC). Candidate statements can be seen here.

Sorry for piecemeal edits in the flow of conversation
Thank you very much for your help on Fastily's page, I appreciate it. Please feel free to trout me for my bad habit of editing my comments in a flurry trying to say exactly what I mean to say—I know it can be terribly annoying for people I'm talking to, but I'm struggling trying to kick the habit. Thanks again! Remsense留 02:35, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, Remsense! I often fall into a similar habit myself here, so don't worry about that - I certainly don't find it annoying, if anything I personally relate to it. What a disaster I caused though eh? I thought I'd only copied my text over from the edit conflict, but only realised after the second incident that I'd copied the entirety of Fastily's talkpage instead! You're always welcome to reach out to me here with any questions you may have; in the meantime, happy editing :-) Patient Zerotalk 02:42, 5 January 2024 (UTC)
10 years!
Tomorrow marks 10 years since I started editing Wikipedia! I guess it was a bit of a “false start”, given that I did not make many edits at all in 2014. But it is where my journey began, and the rest, as they say, is history. Thank you to all who have made, and continue to make, my experience on Wikipedia a positive one. Here’s to the next 10 years! :-) Patient Zerotalk 18:41, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
WP:RFCN
An IP has started a discussion on your username at WP:RFCN, but they failed to notify you. It seems to be in retaliation for you warning them. - ZLEA T\C 19:21, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- Thanks for the notice, ZLEA! I see it has been speedy closed now, and I think you’re right in your analysis that this was an attempt at retaliation. For what it’s worth, the IP who reported me added the words “woke moron” to a BLP, which is surely much more offensive than the phrase “patient zero”! Furthermore, it has been my username since 2016, which was four years before the pandemic even began. Thank you once again, and hope you are keeping well. Patient Zerotalk 21:28, 6 January 2024 (UTC)
- I had seen the addition of "woke moron", which is what removed any shadow of a doubt that this IP was acting in bad faith. As a wise Wikipedian once told me, if you find yourself the target of vandals, you must be doing something right. - ZLEA T\C 21:34, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

Puzzling Edit Summary
Your revert summary here doesn't make sense to me, as the IP only delinked a red link (which is a lesser complaint I've had of their editing, among more major things things), but "not providing a reliable source" seems an odd reason to give for reverting a delinking. If your summary was a misclick on your part (I've made misclicks on summary myself), or was something automated with your edits (per HUGGLE), no worries. If you were thinking that the sentence was added by this IP, it was not (was added March 24, 2022). The sentence is still in the article, and if lack of source is the complaint, (this could work to source it.
No criticism, just baffled, hope you have a great weekend. Zinnober9 (talk) 02:58, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Zinnober9 - thank you for bringing this to my attention. On the automated software I use, it looked as if the IP had written that entire sentence, rather than delinked a red link, so I reverted per WP:RS as the claim hadn't been backed up. I can see now what has happened, so I'll go ahead and add the source shortly. Sorry for any bother I've caused with that, and once again, thank you for letting me know! I hope you have a great weekend too. Patient Zerotalk 03:15, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- No bother, I just had the IP's talk page in my watchlist and wondered what had triggered their block for 31 hours since there wasn't a ruling at the ANI discussion yet Found that page in their edits for today and was baffled. Thanks for the reply and adding the source. Best, Zinnober9 (talk) 06:37, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- No worries, Zinnober9 :-) I completely understand why it was baffling, and I'd have thought the same in your position. Once again, I appreciate you letting me know so that I could resolve the matter! I am assuming this means that the block might've been a bit premature, although looking at this IP's contributions, I am admittedly surprised such measures hadn't been taken beforehand...
