Stuart Croft (academic) moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Stuart Croft (academic), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the confirms on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. Draft:AliceVision Meshroom

Hi Modussiccandi I'm a new editor of Wikipedia, with my first Article about AliceVision Meshroom open source software. It seems that this Draft has met Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, because of the similarity of some text pieces with some pages of alicevision.org and alicevision.org/association websites. In fact, I am one of the main contributors of these websites, because I am the President of AliceVision association, and one of the founders of this open source project. Could you help us in solving that?

Thank you! Benoît75011 (talk) 21:21, 10 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi Benoît75011, thank you very much for taking up the issue. I proposed the article for speedy deletion because significant passages are copies or close paraphrases of a website. The fact that you are the creator of said website does not automatically change the situation: you would need to donate the material to Wikipedia (details can be found via this link). I should, however, alert you to another, equally important problem with the article: all articles on Wikipedia need to be sourced from reliable sources which are independent of their subject. Content which does not meet this threshold is likely to be removed from the website. The website in question is not independent of the subject, as you suggested in you message, and therefore should not be used as a source. My advice to you would be to find some independently published sources (scholarly article, newspaper report etc.) and write an article based on them. If you cannot finds such sources, AliceVision Meshroom should not be on Wikipedia and is liable to removal through other processes. Feel free to reply or ask any questions, best Modussiccandi (talk) 21:37, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi Modussiccandi, thank you for your reply. Regarding the features of the software and the statutes of the organization, it's going to be difficult to change the wording as it is taken from official documents and statements that have been validated either by the 14 founding members of our association or by the legal authorities. Or even milestones, which a list of public events. As you may notice, we already have given external references - from Siggraph, FMX and Academy software organizations. I'm going to add a list other external publications to make it more consistent regarding independently published sources. Hope this helps. Thanks again for your help and support. Best Benoît75011
Benoît75011 Thank you for trying to include more third-party sources. When you use them (or any other sources) make sure to reference them with inline citations, of which the article does not have any at the moment. If you do not yet know how do create inline citations, take a look at this page. A list of external references is not sufficient because readers of Wikipedia need to be able to trace exactly where the information comes from. With regards to the copyright problem: if it is truly the case that the content of the article must be closely based on the website in question, I think you should consider in earnest making your copyrighted material free for to reproduce. Instructions for this can be found here. Apart from that, I do not think it is advisable to insist on using the material from said website. The majority of any article must be based on reliable, third-party sources. The website in question is not a third-party source. Therefore it is not suited to be the main source for the article. Again, if you come to the conclusion that you cannot find sources independent of the subject to act as the majority source, AliceVision Meshroom is not fit for inclusion in Wikipedia. Modussiccandi (talk) 22:24, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
Hi Modussiccandi, thanks again for your help! We've been doing a lot of rewriting now and add a lot of inline citations and external references. And regarding potential copyright infringement with AliceVision Project and AliceVision Association websites, they are both now published under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

About Brian Hull

I have a feeling that the sources I find about Brian Hull may not be enough for Wikipedia. Will you help me find some reliable sources? Thanks. WikiTimmy (talk)

Hi WikiTimmy, thank you for your interest in improving the article Brian Hull (impressionist). You are right, the source you provided (the subject's YouTube channel) is not enough to demonstrate the subject should be included in Wikipedia. What is needed are sources that are 1) from reputable publications with a good-fact checking record (e.g. national newspapers or scholarly publications, more at WP:R) and 2) independent from the subject, which means they are not written by him or by someone connected to him (more at WP:IS). If none such sources can be found, the subject may not be suitable for Wikipedia. Modussiccandi (talk) 20:24, 27 September 2020 (UTC)

Thanks and clarification

Hello, just wanted to say thanks for your comment on the RfD regarding WP:NOTBIBLIOGRAPHY. I do agree with your AfD, the bibliography you nominated shouldn't have a stand alone article, the RfD wasn't to stop the AfD, it was intended to discuss the redirect. Best wishes from Los Angeles,   // Timothy :: talk  03:05, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi TimothyBlue, don't worry about it. I agree the redirect needs fixing. My comment under the RfD was meant to describe the lack of clarity I felt when weighing wether to nominate Bibliography of Tirana. Having seen some of the other !votes under the RfD, I am starting to think the redirect should be deleted to reflect the fact that we actually have lots of bibliographies. Bibliography of Tirana, as you say, is a different issue and should probably be merged. Best Modussiccandi (talk) 03:42, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I promoted your hook to prep, but then I started to see the problem that a first-time reader might have connecting the Spanish name with the Spanish name of the battle, which isn't exactly the same thing. This is the version I came up with:

Is that all right with you? Yoninah (talk) 22:55, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Yoninah, your version is fine with me. How considerate of you! Thanks again and best, Modussiccandi (talk) 23:05, 10 November 2020 (UTC)

I assume you may know this already, but you don't have to use AFC to create articles! You can just create articles directly in the main encyclopedia. Let me know if you need any help with this, or the Teahouse volunteers would be happy to assist. In my view, AFC is not a useful process for good-faith editors who have been around a while... Calliopejen1 (talk) 13:44, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi, Calliopejen1, thanks for the message. Yes, I know I shouldn't create articles via AfC. The reason I did it this time is because of the the New Page Patrol school. Their final exams asks editors to submit an article via AfC. I'm sorry for clogging up to process. Best, Modussiccandi (talk) 14:12, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
Modussiccandi, oh, no problem! I just see good editors get ensnared in AFC problems and wanted to male sure it didnt happen to you!! Calliopejen1 (talk) 16:26, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
