Impressed
[edit]Thanks a lot for your excellent work over the last few days on Ethiopian languages. I am really impressed. You don't see these languages getting that much good attention very often. Greetings, Landroving Linguist (talk) 13:45, 28 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Landroving Linguist: These are really "divergent" or phylogenetically important languages that are likely isolates or small phyla, which is why I'm so keen on digging up obscure resources on them and summarizing them online. I've also just put this up - hope you might find this useful: Wiktionary:Appendix:Vocabulary lists of African languages — Stevey7788 (talk) 10:02, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

Draft:Henry Isaac Clore Lowe on 06:53:19, 30 March 2019 for assistance on AfC submission by Vyas vatsal ==
Regarding declined draft article (27th of March) on Dr. Henry Isaac Clore Lowe
[edit]Hello Stevey, This is regarding the Wikipedia Article created by me, Chester Buchanan on Dr. Henry I.C. Lowe. I posted a question on that article's talk page but I will post it here too:
You say "Sources are mostly self-published. Very few independent sources". To remedy this issue should I include more outside sources? I currently have 8 which come mostly from two Jamaican newspapers. How many outside sources would you deem acceptable (quantitatively) and would it be preferable if more of them came from sources outside the Jamaican Observer and the Jamaican Gleaner. Are the any other things which need to change?
Thank you for your time, Chester Chester Buchanan (talk) 18:40, 1 April 2019 (UTC)

Update on draft article about Dr. Henry Isaac Clore Lowe
[edit]Good day Stevey,
I have applied the changes you recommended. My draft article now cites 31 secondary sources, all of which give “considerable coverage” to Lowe. I should also note, that the majority of these sources are written solely about Lowe and his actions. This I believe should qualify as having “received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources”.
Although because this is to prove the notability of the subject, I will offer you a short precis of Lowe’s impressive career: he is perhaps the most important scientist Jamaica has ever produced (winner of The Centenary Medal in the field of Science (Institute of Jamaica, 1879-1979). He has received an honourary doctorate, is an honorary life member of the Caribbean association of pharmacists, has been named business leader of the year and has been appointed to the order of Jamaica. I have been able to track down 15 awards that he has won (admittedly some of them are trivial), but I suspect there are more; every day I seem to stumble on other honours he has been given. He also frequently meets with the Jamaican prime-minister and other high ranking officials.
Lastly, it does say in wp:rs that “Large blocks of material based purely on primary sources should be avoided “, but in wp:bio it says that many academics “are notably influential in the world of ideas without their biographies being the subject of secondary sources”. With both these in mind would you like me to remove/substantially trim down parts based on his auto-biography? Also are there any other things you would like me to change?
Thank you for your time, Chester
P.S. could you please not ask me to remove parts based on his auto-biography. it was hard work to create! it is all cited back to his book, statement by statement.

Request for advice on West London article
[edit]Hello Steve, thanks for the kind words, I would welcome some further guidance on your advise for me to merge my draft "West London, England" with "West London (sub-region).
Makes perfect sense to me as the West London sub-region is the only S-R with a page of its own, and the area as a whole (unlike N.Lon, E.Lon etc) lacks a page
As the existing article has a narrower scope, would it be better to: - Merge the existing article into my draft (if that's possible), that would allow a new name without the "(sub-region)" suffix or - Copy my content into the existing article (that would mean the article had been re-scoped, but the suffix still referred to the older, narrower subject scope. - Some other approach, such as adding more content to the article
Thanks very much for your time and apologies if this is not the best way to have sought advice

[edit]Hi Stevey7788,
It's me who sent you a Wikipedia message asking about Chamberlain email and notifying you about the Japanese nationalist party.
I have just sent you a new Wikipedia email. I'm not sure if you have received it? This time, I have found out who is behind this Wixsite [1]. They are a Vietnamese and Russian cooperated disinformation campaign against pan-Turkism, South Korea and Japan. To obtain academic information for their disinformation efforts, these Vietnamese and Russian launch cyber espionage campaigns against scholars and researchers working on Tai-Kadai, Austronesian, Austroasiatic, Dravadian, Sinitic, Japonic, Koreanic, Tungusic, Mongolic, Turkic, Altaic, Ural-Altaic linguistics, genetics, origins, one of whom is likely you as you have worked on various language families in Southeast and East Asia. Please Read my Wikipedia email sent you in which I described what's going on.
I also tried to contact you via Facebook by an account named Marc Howlett, but I have no longer been able to find you. It is as if you have blocked me. Did you block the account Marc Howlett ?
One of the active troll accounts of the Russian-Vietnamese cooperated disinformation campaign against pan-Turkism, Japan and South Korea is AsadalEditor [2]. 14.207.103.53 (talk) 16:21, 20 April 2019 (UTC)

- Please be careful as they have members working as staffs/engineers/administrators/moderators of Google, Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, Quora, etc. and they have a very sophisticated spying malware. If your computer often has this icon http://imgbox.com/ghsDZyfX shown up too often without any reason, it is likely that your computer is already infected by the spying malware, and that you are watched. Would you mind guiding me through the way?
Citybird767 (talk) 01:44, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
@Citybird767: The Japanese and Chinese wikis are less strict and accept a wider range of articles. One way might be to link them to already existing English Wikipedia articles. Although I have ridden the HK Airport bus myself and like it a lot, I don't think it is necessarily notable on the English Wikipedia. — Stevey7788 (talk) 08:28, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Deo Sun Temple AfC
[edit]I'm assuming that the article was deleted (created by a sock) before you had a chance to read the comments made by Bishonen and me. I had to spend a bit of time on the article and I think you should know why. Here is what I wrote to you on the talk page as well as Bish's comment:
I'm not sure why this was moved out of draft space in its current condition. The grammar is terrible. The lead contradicts itself saying that it is an 8th century temple and "So no proof of who made and how" which is OR. Did you read this Hindi source?[3] It's clearly fringe and claims that the temple is 1.5 million years old. I had Chrome translate it and I found copyvio, which is why I deleted it twice before. One of the sources[4] is the Hindi Wikipedia. Anyway, I've done a bit. The lead needs a complete rewrite. Did you notice one section heading is spelled "cculpture"? Doug Weller talk 15:09, 29 April 2019 (UTC)
- The article is awful, even after your deletions, Doug Weller. Before them, it was worse, of course, both in grammar and in the claims made. Bishonen | talk 15:23, 29 April 2019 (UTC).
I admire the idea of AfC and I hate to be critical of another editor. I can easily tell from your talk page that you don't blindly accept AfCs, so I assume this one was an exception. I know I like to be told about any issues other good editors have with my editing. Doug Weller talk 10:16, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- The draft did indeed require some copyediting. It was accepted because it looked it could be a good article once it is improved, but I should have taken a closer look at the specific contents in there and placed various tags. Thanks for letting me know about this though - I should have taken a much closer look at all the fringe theories in there. And for some very unfortunate reasons not clear to me, it seems like South Asian topics often tend to require massive amounts of cleanup. — Stevey7788 (talk) 14:55, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks. No real problem. But I agree entirely about South Asian topics. There are various reasons I'm sure. The copyvio problem may be because some areas of the world don't see a serious problem with it, or even it as showing respect for the originator. Doug Weller talk 15:00, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- @Doug Weller: Agreed. I'll give such topics a much closer look in the future. Another AfC article that got accepted by a different reviewer was Negro-Egyptian languages. It looked very well-written to the untrained eye, but it was a fringe theory article that made absolutely no sense. With practice, reviewers can learn to spot such non-"Wikiworthy" articles with much better accuracy. — Stevey7788 (talk) 15:07, 30 April 2019 (UTC)
- Also, I had assumed that it could be notable and encyclopedic since there was an article about it on the Hindi Wikipedia. — Stevey7788 (talk) 15:11, 30 April 2019 (UTC)

[edit]Hi,
Firstly, this Topic is very important for all public (i.e. Government) servants; yet, many of them are not aware of the correct statutory Law on this subject-matter. And they are searching for the same Online; the Law cited in this Article is directly linked to relevant Government's websites.
Secondly, the prominent Judge-made Law -- which supplements, modifies & supersedes these statutory Laws -- is also cited, i.e. the Judgments themselves are cited in the Article and, moreso, the Court-recognised Law-Reports (which reproduce these Judgments) are linked (cited). There cannot be more reliable 'sources' than Government's websites and Court-recognised Law-Reports, plz.
If this information is not available on Wikipedia, then millions of public servants (which include those employed in public sector undertakings, Nationalised Banks, etc) will turn to another competing Wiki, and patronise the one that they find informative; it will, therefore, help Wikipedia alone to show such important information, plz.
BTW, I am on the Editorial Boards of three International Research Journals, and am a Peer-Reviewer of an International Research Journal published on behalf of Cambridge University (UK); I also teach HRD, Law, Economics & IT to MBA Courses. My Research Papers have been presented at many International Conferences & Seminars, and the Suggestions made therein have been implemented by the concerned Government & other Authorities.

[edit]Hi,
When we rely upon primary data (e.g. original research or documents) we are referring to Facts and not Opinions; hence, 'neutrality' is automatically ensured. Moreso, we are not expressing an opinion that the subject-matter is good or bad. This Article refers to and cites primary documents, viz. Government & Court-records (with first hand Links provided to these sources). Secondly, it is the importance of the subject-matter (e.g. when a statute or court lays down a new Law or interpretation that creates a watershed between the new and the old legal thought & systems) then the change is noteworthy, i.e. 'notable'; the mere 'numbers' do not make it notable, e.g. the number of times it has been applauded or criticised by people who are not recognised Subject-Experts.

Glomesh Draft ...
[edit]Hi Stevey, You made a comment on my Glomesh draft that said 'Notable or not?' You mean to ask is the brand worth noting as a page on Wiki? It is very famous in Australia so I believe so - it is a big part of Australia's fashion history. There are brands and designers that haven't been around nearly as long who do have pages. Please let me know if there are other ways I can improve the article and thanks so much for taking the time to read it. Regards, Miss Abbey Jane
Miss Abbey Jane (talk) 02:22, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
- @Miss Abbey Jane: If it is famous in Australia, then we have to show that it is indeed notable and famous in Australia using reliable secondary, exteral sources per Wikipedia's policy. Even if something is famous, if there are no reliable sources, we can't really include that on Wikipedia. — Stevey7788 (talk) 12:38, 11 May 2019 (UTC)
Hi Stevey, Thanks so much for reviewing my draft so fast. I'll be sure to find more reliable secondary sources before submitting again. It's all a great learning curve anyway so I can continue to accurately contribute to Wikipedia.

[edit]--Ellemcp (talk) 14:36, 15 May 2019 (UTC) Ellemcpa--Ellemcp (talk) 14:19, 15 May 2019 (UTC) --
Hello! I recently submitted a page for review -- United States Agency for International Development Bureau for Europe and Eurasia -- that was rejected on the grounds that there is not sufficient information to warrant an independent page. I am confused by this feedback, as I have seen pages with very little information whereas I built out a robust page describing my topic. It would be useful to understand this discrepency. If there is a way to improve this page to meet the standards for an individual page, that would be very helpful.

NPR Newsletter No.18
[edit]Hello Stevey7788,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
Niharika Kohli, a product manager for the growth team, announced that work is underway in implementing improvements to New Page Patrol as part of the 2019 Community Wishlist and suggests all who are interested watch the project page on meta. Two requested improvements have already been completed. These are:
- Allow filtering by no citations in page curation
- Not having CSD and PRODs automatically marked as reviewed, reflecting current consensus among reviewers and current Twinkle functionality.
- Reliable Sources for NPP
Rosguill has been compiling a list of reliable sources across countries and industries that can be used by new page patrollers to help judge whether an article topic is notable or not. At this point further discussion is needed about if and how this list should be used. Please consider joining the discussion about how this potentially valuable resource should be developed and used.
- Backlog drive coming soon
Look for information on the an upcoming backlog drive in our next newsletter. If you'd like to help plan this drive, join in the discussion on the New Page Patrol talk page.
- News
- Following a request for comment, the subject-specific notability guideline for pornographic actors and models (WP:PORNBIO) was removed; in its place, editors should consult WP:ENT and WP:GNG.
- Discussions of interest
- A request for bot approval for a bot to patrol two kinds of redirects
- There has been a lot discussion about Notability of Academics
- What, if anything, would a SNG for Softball look like

I believe that this should have been deleted with Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Maps of Oakland, California. It has been orphaned ever since.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. ★ Bigr Tex 21:51, 10 June 2019 (UTC)

New Page Review newsletter July-August 2019
[edit]Hello Stevey7788,
- WMF at work on NPP Improvements
More new features are being added to the feed, including the important red alert for previously deleted pages. This will only work if it is selected in your filters. Best is to 'select all'. Do take a moment to check out all the new features if you have not already done so. If anything is not working as it should, please let us know at NPR. There is now also a live queue of AfC submissions in the New Pages Feed. Feel free to review AfCs, but bear in mind that NPP is an official process and policy and is more important.
- QUALITY of REVIEWING
Articles are still not always being checked thoroughly enough. If you are not sure what to do, leave the article for a more experienced reviewer. Please be on the alert for any incongruities in patrolling and help your colleagues where possible; report patrollers and autopatrolled article creators who are ostensibly undeclared paid editors. The displayed ORES alerts offer a greater 'at-a-glance' overview, but the new challenges in detecting unwanted new content and sub-standard reviewing do not necessarily make patrolling any easier, nevertheless the work may have a renewed interest factor of a different kind. A vibrant community of reviewers is always ready to help at NPR.
- Backlog
The backlog is still far too high at between 7,000 and 8,000. Of around 700 user rights holders, 80% of the reviewing is being done by just TWO users. In the light of more and more subtle advertising and undeclared paid editing, New Page Reviewing is becoming more critical than ever.
- Move to draft
NPR is triage, it is not a clean up clinic. This move feature is not limited to bios so you may have to slightly re-edit the text in the template before you save the move. Anything that is not fit for mainspace but which might have some promise can be draftified - particularly very poor English and machine and other low quality translations.
- Notifying users
Remember to use the message feature if you are just tagging an article for maintenance rather than deletion. Otherwise articles are likely to remain perma-tagged. Many creators are SPA and have no intention of returning to Wikipedia. Use the feature too for leaving a friendly note note for the author of a first article you found well made or interesting. Many have told us they find such comments particularly welcoming and encouraging.
- PERM
Admins are now taking advantage of the new time-limited user rights feature. If you have recently been accorded NPR, do check your user rights to see if this affects you. Depending on your user account preferences, you may receive automated notifications of your rights changes. Requests for permissions are not mini-RfAs. Helpful comments are welcome if absolutely necessary, but the bot does a lot of the work and the final decision is reserved for admins who do thorough research anyway.
- Other news
School and academic holidays will begin soon in various places around the Western world. Be on the lookout for the usual increase in hoax, attack, and other junk pages.
Our next newsletter might be announcing details of a possible election for co-ordinators of NPR. If you think you have what it takes to micro manage NPR, take a look at New Page Review Coordinators - it's a job that requires a lot of time and dedication.
