DYK for Demolition of al-Baqi

On 10 November 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Demolition of al-Baqi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that al-Baqi cemetery, former site of the mausoleum of four Shi'a Imams (pictured), was leveled to the ground by Wahhabis in 1806 and in the mid-1920s? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Demolition of al-Baqi. AfD - cricket stats

Hi, I undid your closure of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of cricket batting averages, because the nominator only withdrew the nomination of an additional article (List of List A cricket records). The main article (List of cricket batting averages) is still up for AfD. --HyperGaruda (talk) 06:37, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Ahmad Khomeini

Somehow your edit has the wrong code: ({{lang-fa|سید احمد خمینی}}) (14 March 1946 – 15 March 1995) Please do not reinsert it the same way but modify it so that it does not look like that. Thanks. Dr. K. 03:15, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Dr.K.. This just seems corrupted. As you see, there's no problem when it's rendered. --Mhhossein talk 03:18, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you Mhhossein. That's really strange. Perhaps we can ask at VP. Dr. K. 03:22, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Dr.K.: You're welcome. I re-checked the code and found no special problem. However, if you try to mark the text using SHIFT+ RIGHT ARROW starting from ({{, you'll see that the blue color jumps at some point! Will you take that to VP? Willing to see the result. --Mhhossein talk 03:27, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
I saw that too. Also to me it appears as if the date of Khomeini's birth comes in the middle of his name in Farsi. Also the end brackets of the lang-fa template are reversed. I'll take it to VP as soon as I have some time. Dr. K. 03:34, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Dr.K.: Thanks for the explanation. --Mhhossein talk 03:37, 12 November 2016 (UTC)

The WikiCup

I have granted your late request to take part in the 2017 WikiCup. You will need to sign up here promptly. When you have done so, give me a ping and I will add your name and chosen flag to the table and set up your submissions page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 09:59, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Cwmhiraeth: Thanks for accepting my request. I've signed up as you said. --Mhhossein talk 13:42, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
@Mhhossein: Thanks for letting me in. Will our submissions reviewed before being shown in the pool or it will automatically added by a bot? --Mhhossein talk 14:28, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
You will need to submit anything you are claiming and then the bot will award the points. Submissions should really be made within 10 days of being earned. We are nearly at the end of Round 1 and then points will be set back to zero for the start of Round 2. As long as you have submitted one or two claims, you should get through to the next round. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 14:37, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
Cwmhiraeth: Thanks for the response. Can I keep my GA for the next round if I can move the second round wit my to DYKs? Will the bot measure the bonus for me? How can I submit them? --Mhhossein talk 14:41, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
You can see the rules here. The GA will be eligible for points this round, but not during next round because it was passed as a GA in this round. The two DYKs do not qualify for points in the 2017 WikiCup because you worked on them both and nominated them for DYK during 2016. The rule in this instance states: "Content must have been worked on and nominated during the competition." I have adjusted your submissions to reflect this. Posting to WP:GAN

Mhhossein, you recently posted directly to this page to add a note to one of your nominations. However, you shouldn't edit this page directly. The bot assembles the page directly from the various GA nominee templates, so the next pass of the bot restored the unnoted version of the nomination. If you want to add a note to your nomination, you use the |note= field in that GA nominee template on the article's talk page. (No need for the fancy formatting; the bot takes care of the Ambox code; just add whatever text you feel is necessary.) Thanks. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:11, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

BlueMoonset: Thank you, I did not know that. I'll use the "|note= field". --Mhhossein talk 18:08, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

Drive-by tagging

I'm really quite perplexed as to why you added {{refimprove}} to Kill Ratio in this edit. There are no unsourced statements in the article. If you think there's something that needs a citation, you could tag it with {{fact}}, but, like I said, everything is already sourced. Per MOS:FILM, plot summaries do not need citations; maybe you were confused about this? In the future, it would perhaps help if you left a note on an article's talk page to explain confusing cleanup tags. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 20:21, 22 February 2017 (UTC)

@NinjaRobotPirate: I should have noted to MOS:FILM. How could you call it a "Drive-by tagging", the worst possible scenario? BTw, if I see another article with paragraphs unsourced, I'll certainly act in a similar manner and add refimprove tag. Sorry, but your comment was full of what I'm not inclined to say. --Mhhossein talk 03:18, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
There were no unsourced paragraphs. That is my point. And, no, you should not continue tagging sourced articles with {{refimprove}}. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 03:22, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
Did you even read my comment? I said that I had to pay attention to MOS:FILM. "Plot summary" was unsourced, however per the MOS it did not need to be sourced. Check my contributions if you still think there are things to teach. Thanks! --Mhhossein talk 03:25, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
And it finally needed to be tagged with a tougher tag! --Mhhossein talk 03:53, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
Excuse me, but why are you adding citations to the cast list now? This is implicitly cited to the film itself. This is how GAs are written, such as The Terminator and Leprechaun (film). Please, if you don't understand MOS:FILM, ask at WT:FILM for advice and help. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 04:00, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
@NinjaRobotPirate: You are ignoring some simple facts. For example see The Terminator where the casts are cited elsewhere in the article. But in the case in question, the cast were not cited anywhere. MOS:FILM does not exempts 'Cast' from citations rather it mentions how reliable sources should be used; "...it is encouraged to name the most relevant actors and roles with the most appropriate rule of thumb for the given film: billing, speaking roles, named roles, cast lists in reliable sources." --Mhhossein talk 07:02, 23 February 2017 (UTC)

March Madness 2017

G'day all, please be advised that throughout March 2017 the Military history Wikiproject is running its March Madness drive. This is a backlog drive that is focused on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • updating the project's currently listed A-class articles to ensure their ongoing compliance with the listed criteria
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various task force pages or other lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the military history scope will be considered eligible. More information can be found here for those that are interested, and members can sign up as participants at that page also.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 March and runs until 23:59 UTC on 31 March 2017, so please sign up now.

For the Milhist co-ordinators. Regards, AustralianRupert (talk) & MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 07:24, 26 February 2017 (UTC)

March 2017 WikiCup newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. It would have been 5 points, but when a late entrant was permitted to join the contest in February, a promise was made that his inclusion would not result in the exclusion of any other competitor. To achieve this, the six entrants that had the lowest positive score of 4 points have been added to the 64 people who otherwise would have qualified. As a result, some of the groups have nine contestants rather than eight. Our top four scorers in round 1 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, last year's winner, led the field with two featured articles on birds and a total score of 674.
  • European Union Iry-Hor, a WikiCup newcomer, came next with a featured article, a good article and a tally of 282 bonus points for a score of 517. All these points came from the article Nyuserre Ini, an Ancient Egyptian pharaoh,
  • Japan 1989, another WikiCup newcomer, was in joint third place at 240. 1989 has claimed points for two featured lists and one good article relating to anime and comedy series, all of which were awarded bonus points.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 shared third place with five good articles and thirteen good article reviews, mostly on naval vessels. He is also new to the competition.

The largest number of DYKs have been submitted by Vivvt and The C of E, who each claimed for seven, and MBlaze Lightning achieved eight articles at ITN. Carbrera and Peacemaker67 each claimed for five GAs and Krishna Chaitanya Velaga was well out in front for GARs, having reviewed 32. No featured pictures, featured topics or good topics yet, but we have achieved three featured articles and a splendid total of fifty good articles.

So, on to the second round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is a good article candidate, a featured process, or anything else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello:

I have converted the quote in Demolition of al-Baqi as you requested. I hope it is satisfactory. I have also made a number of minor changes which I hope improve the article. Good luck with your GA nomination. Twofingered Typist (talk) 15:24, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

The WikiCup-2

I regret that your new GA, Demolition of al-Baqi, does not qualify for points in this year's WikiCup. This is because you did not do the necessary substantial work on the article in 2017 before you nominated it for GAN on 22 February. In fact you did no work on it at all during that period. The relevant rule states: "All reviewed content must have been worked on significantly by you during the competition" Please see this page where the issue was discussed by another judge with another competitor. I am sorry if this seems harsh, but there is still plenty of time to score points in this round and so advance to the next. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 14:03, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Cwmhiraeth: Sorry, but I can't accept this claim. I did many changes and added some new paragraphs to the article. the reviewer may have things to say in this regard. --Mhhossein talk 18:13, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
The article readable prose size were 6481 characters before I start the edits aimed at promoting the article, and it's 8619 characters now. --Mhhossein talk 18:23, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
Indeed, you made changes as a result of comments made by the reviewer but you did no work in 2017 before you nominated the article at GAN, which is the requirement. Sturmvogel 66 explains this well in the link I provided above. It is the same with DYK, if you created an article or expanded it five-fold in 2016 and nominated it for DYK at the beginning of 2017, it would not be eligible for points in the 2017 WikiCup. This is explained in the general rules at the WikiCup scoring page. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 18:39, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: I started my edits after I entered WikiCup, I think it helps. --Mhhossein talk 19:04, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
Here are the timings
  • Your last edit before nominating article for GAN was 10 November 2016‎
  • You nominated it for GAN on 22 February 2017.‎
You did not do any work in 2017 prior to nominating it for GAN. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 19:31, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
I did the works after entering the cup. --Mhhossein talk 19:41, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
The work was only done because of the review. I will ask another judge to consider the matter. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 20:07, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
@Cwmhiraeth: I reviewed the GA notification and can confirm that Mhhossein did significant amount of work as part of the GA review. Disclosure: I'm the other contestant whose points got docked by another judge in this page (linked by Cwmhiraeth above). As I explained to the judge in my talk page, I think it's unfair to introduce a new rule ("Work done after nomination don't count") midway through the competition, and then apply it retroactively after competitors did their work. The original rule only asks that the work be done during the competition, and doesn't say anything about whether the work is done before or after GAN/FAC/etc. Please reconsider these decisions. HaEr48 (talk) 00:04, 11 March 2017 (UTC)
  • The other judge who I consulted confirms my view on this matter. To score points in the WikiCup, the first stage is that during the contest, an article has to be created, expanded, improved or substantially worked on before it is nominated for review. This stage was missing in this instance. The judges may need to clarify this in the rules for future contests. I am sorry if this ruling seems harsh, but several contestants were denied points during round 1 for the same reason. Cwmhiraeth (talk) 11:09, 11 March 2017 (UTC)

May 2017 WikiCup newsletter

The second round of the competition has now closed, with just under 100 points being required to qualify for round 3. YellowEvan just scraped into the next round with 98 points but we have to say goodbye to the thirty or so competitors who didn't achieve this threshold; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Our top scorers in round 2 were:

  • Scotland Cas Liber, led the field with five featured articles, four on birds and one on astronomy, and a total score of 2049, half of which came from bonus points.
  • Japan 1989 was in second place with 826 points, 466 of which were bonus points. 1989 has claimed points mostly relating to anime and Japanese-related articles.
  • South Australia Peacemaker67 took third place with two FAs, one GA and seven GARs, mostly on naval vessels or military personnel, scoring 543 points.
  • Other contestants who scored over 400 points were Freikorp, Carbrera, and Czar. Of course all these points are now wiped out and the 32 remaining contestants start again from zero in round 3.

Vivvt submitted the largest number of DYKs (30), and MBlaze Lightning achieved 13 articles at ITN. Carbrera claimed for 11 GAs and Argento Surfer performed the most GARs, having reviewed 11. So far we have achieved 38 featured articles and a splendid 132 good articles. Commendably, 279 GARs have been achieved so far, more than double the number of GAs.

So, on to the third round. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 2 but before the start of round 3 can be claimed in round 3. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points equally.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. Feedback

Hi Mhhossein, thanks for leaving comments on my talk page. The content I added has refences on Wikipedia itself, I did not add anything from outside Wikipedia. The content was sourced from Wikipedia itself, thus there is no question of Verifiability. Kindly check or be more specific, so that I can sort it out if it is needed. Thanks. Doyen786: Thanks for the response. Please note that Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source. We need to abide by WP:Verifiability. Btw, I was specific enough by mentioning the problematic edit. Consider adding a reliable source to the content. --Mhhossein talk 17:53, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Monarch

It seems that the definition of a monarch is broader than one would initially expect. For examples popes also count as monarchs, just like caliphs. Marcocapelle (talk) 18:09, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Marcocapelle: Is there any discussions regarding this issue showing consensus among editors? --Mhhossein talk 19:37, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
There are always discussions, see e.g. Talk:Monarch#Pope.3F but the current article text presumably reflects consensus. Marcocapelle (talk) 19:47, 5 June 2017 (UTC)
This case's much different. We're talking about Imam and/or Caliph. Consensus must be built, if you think the category fits them. --Mhhossein talk 19:54, 5 June 2017 (UTC)

Hi there, I'm pleased to inform you that I've begun reviewing the article 1982 Iranian diplomats kidnapping you nominated for GA-status according to the criteria. This process may take up to 7 days. WikiCup 2017 July newsletter

The third round of the competition has finished in a flurry of last minute activity, with 288 points being required to qualify for round 4. It was a hotly competitive round with all but four of the contestants exceeding the 106 points that was necessary to proceed to round 4 last year. Coemgenus and Freikorp tied on 288, and both have been allowed to proceed, so round 4 now has one pool of eight competitors and one of nine.

Round 3 saw the achievement of a 26-topic Featured topic by MPJ-DK as well as 5 featured lists and 13 featured articles. PanagiotisZois and SounderBruce achieved their first ever featured articles. Carbrera led the GA score with 10, Tachs achieved 17 DYKs and MBlaze Lightning 10 In the news items. There were 167 DYKs, 93 GARs and 82 GAs overall, this last figure being higher than the number of GAs in round 2, when twice as many people were taking part. Even though contestants performed more GARs than they achieved GAs, there was still some frustration at the length of time taken to get articles reviewed.

As we start round 4, we say goodbye to the fifteen or so competitors who didn't quite make it; thank you for the useful contributions you have made to the Cup and Wikipedia. Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them (some people have fallen foul of this rule and the points have been removed).

If you are concerned that your nomination, whether it be for a good article, a featured process, or anything else, will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! DYK for 1981 Iranian Prime Minister's office bombing

On 25 July 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article 1981 Iranian Prime Minister's office bombing, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Iranian Prime Minister's office bombing in 1981 led to the death of the prime minister, Mohammad Javad Bahonar, and President Mohammad Ali Rajai? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/1981 Iranian Prime Minister's office bombing. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, 1981 Iranian Prime Minister's office bombing), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Looking for help with Persian

Hi-- I wonder if you can make out the verses on this image. There's been some debate as to what it represents. I'm so bad at reading nasta'liq that I can hardly make out anything besides "مریم" and "خوش آمد", and even that could be wrong. Eperoton (talk) 02:37, 23 July 2017 (UTC)

Eperoton: Salaam. Yeah, sure. The word besides "مریم" is "عیسی" (Jesus), as far as I see. However, there are three dots beneath "س" which I don't know why they are there! The word besides "خوش آمد" is "نگویم" which is written as "نکویم". In fact, ک is used instead of گ (I don't know why?) --Mhhossein talk 12:11, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Ah, so it's hard to decipher even for a native speaker. That makes sense. One needs special training to read old manuscripts in other languages too. I've also seen گ written as ک elsewhere. Thanks for the effort! Eperoton (talk) 13:31, 23 July 2017 (UTC)
Eperoton: Those extra dots could be for decorative purposes! --Mhhossein talk 06:10, 30 July 2017 (UTC)

Refresh Bolivia

While the work of Refresh Bolivia looks worthy, I wanted to warn you that the current version of the article seems to lack any Wikipedia:Credible claim of significance of its notability and also lacks sources independent of the organization. You may want to review the General Notability Guideline to understand how to demonstrate notability of the organization. Without such a statement, ideally a cited one, the page could be deleted under the criteria for speedy deletion. I'm not currently proposing it for deletion, but just wanted to let you know to improve the article (if Refresh Bolivia is in fact notable) as soon as possible.--Carwil (talk) 02:21, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

@Carwil: So much thanks for the note. However, I'd like to draw your attention to my previous contributions and edit count (more than 13,000). There are of course independent sources. Do as you wish, if you think the subject does not pass our notability criteria. Regards. --Mhhossein talk 05:40, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

Eid al-Ghadeer

In 2016, we had Eid al-Ghadeer listed September 20 for Iran/Iraq, and September 21 for Shia Islam in general. Is there a reason for the separate dates? There's nothing in the article that explains that. Should it just be on a single date this year? Thanks. howcheng {chat} 22:28, 5 September 2017 (UTC)

@Howcheng: As far as I know, the main reason is the difference approach existing between Shia scholars for determining the first day of each month. This year, for example, each of Iraq and Iran held Eid al-Adha on different days. --Mhhossein talk 11:44, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
I just put it on a single day for this year, since that's what the article says. howcheng {chat} 15:44, 6 September 2017 (UTC)
@Howcheng: Thanks, it seems nice and correct. But, in spite of what the article says, Eid al-Ghadeer will be held on different days this year. --Mhhossein talk 17:10, 6 September 2017 (UTC)

1RR violation

The following - [[1]] is a violation of 1RR on a page with a clear ARBPIA notice on its talk page. I urge you to self revert.Icewhiz (talk) 06:54, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Icewhiz: Thanks for reminding. You had reverted my change, so did I. Both have done just one revert. I've opened a topic on the article talk page. --Mhhossein talk 07:00, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Your original edit was a revert. However, there is also the following stipulation on ARBPIA warnings - "If an edit is reverted by another editor, its original author may not restore it within 24 hours" (as you may see on the talk page). So even if your first edit was not a revert (which it was), you're still running foul of this stipulation. Again - I urge you to self-revert.Icewhiz (talk) 07:08, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Of course my edit was not a violation of 1RR, but per "If an edit is revert..." I'll do a self revert. Thank you again for reminding. However, I'll remove the synthesized parts. --Mhhossein talk 07:12, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Removal of my lead change would be OK under the rule. Removal of the long-standing section of the body - would not. Note that even if you claim this is SYNTH in relation to Khamenei+Fatwa (though there are sources discussing them in parallel) - it is still well-sourced information on Khamenei - so at most it should be moved to a separate section on Khamenei (e.g. WMD activities in the 1980s).Icewhiz (talk) 07:16, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Your source is directly touching the issue, thanks. However, it needs proper attribution for the sake of maintaining NPOV. They can be under any relevant section or in any relevant articles. Please note that, my version was the result of older discussion between editors. --Mhhossein talk 07:20, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Icewhiz: By the way, please note that being "long standing" does not change anything. They can simply be removed if they violate the policies or guidelines. --Mhhossein talk 07:24, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

@BlueMoonset: What's wrong here? HaEr48 has just passed the article! --Mhhossein talk 17:37, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
This is a long-known bot error that we haven't been able to get fixed: if there was a prior GA failure, the bot picks up on that, rather than the new GA listing. Never fear; the article did pass. (Note: if you make an error in a ping, you can't just fix it—the ping only happens when there's a brand new sig along with it. You can't edit an earlier sig. Just add a new line with a ping and a sig if you want it to go through. (I only happened to see this because I was scanning through my watchlist and saw my name.) New Page Reviewing

Hello, Mhhossein.

I've seen you editing recently and you seem knowledgeable about Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.
Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; currently Wikipedia needs experienced users at this task. (After gaining the flag, patrolling is not mandatory. One can do it at their convenience). But kindly read the tutorial before making your decision. Bektashi Order

Hello, Mhhossein – I don't know if you have Bektashi Order on your watch list, but I wonder if you could take a look at it. I was looking at the latest edit to the article. Since I work on a small laptop, I keep my screen at resolution 125% or 110%, and at 125%, the infoboxes and other things at the top of the article are all superimposed. I wonder if changing an image size to 1000px had anything to do with it. I had never seen any image in any WP article set to 1000px. I even wonder if 882px, the size it was before, isn't also too large. I wonder if there aren't some layout issues throughout the article. Best regards,  – Corinne (talk) 17:18, 25 December 2017 (UTC)

Toward the end it says "Four doors forty stending". Do you think that last word should be "standing"? Even if it should be "standing", it still doesn't make a lot of sense. It's linked to Four Doors, which doesn't mention anything about the "forty stending/standing".  – Corinne (talk) 23:39, 25 December 2017 (UTC)
@Corinne: I traced back the photo and I found it in some other articles, with same caption. My searches did not brought up useful results for the possible meanings of this phrase. I'll let you know, if I find anything useful. --Mhhossein talk 16:19, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
Thank you for your thanks, Mhhossein. I was looking at the Four Doors article in other languages and it seems that the odd translation comes from the Turkish expression Dört Kapı, Kırk Makam. In English it means "four doors, forty steps/stations/states/levels". Admittedly, it is difficult to find a single common translation for makam, but I'd put my bets on "stations". --HyperGaruda (talk) 20:45, 26 December 2017 (UTC)
You're welcome HyperGaruda and many thanks for entering the discussion. Do you know any reliable sources for Dört Kapı, Kırk Makam? @Corinne: Given the root of makam, I also believe that station is the best meaning we can consider for it in this context. --Mhhossein talk 17:04, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
O.K. but "stations" by itself doesn't make much sense, either. I see in Four Doors that the word "paths" is used in the body of the article, and "spiritual stations" is used in the caption in the infobox. The word "paths" suggests separate ways "to Allah". The diagram in the infobox and the phrase "spiritual stations" suggest successive steps, or stations, where one must go through one before going on to the next, etc. Since I don't know anything about the religion, I cannot choose the best word. Instead of simply "stations", I would use either "paths" or "spiritual stations", whichever is more accurate.  – Corinne (talk) 17:20, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
It's meant to indicate some sort of "spiritual stations", but are we allowed to go through the details for such a translation? --Mhhossein talk 18:30, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

why???

Why you do this?! can you explain? Mohammad13701 (talk) 15:26, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

A nomination for deletion

For your information, an article you did some recent editing on has been nominated for deletion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/My Journey into the Heart of Terror: Ten Days in the Islamic State You could consider adding your opinion as to whether the article should be kept or deleted. In a week or so an administrator will review the nomination and make a decision. David notMD (talk) 15:41, 2 January 2018 (UTC)

New article

solidarity marches in Iran are being held for the past 4-5 days. I think a new article should be created, what are your opinions on the matter? Elektricity (talk) 06:51, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

@Elektricity: Hey! Solidarity rallies of different occasions, have got their own separate articles, AFAIK. But can you explain your proposal with more details on what articles you mean exactly? Regards. --Mhhossein talk 16:11, 7 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mhhossein, I have created Sanchi oil tanker collision today, but I'm a little busy these days, I wonder, you examine the page and actually edit if it is pleasant for you. Regards! Saff V. (talk) 14:56, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Proposal -- Multiple sections at noticeboard

Hi Mhhossein, I'm sorry if I have been a bit unpleasant to you in the past. I suggest on the OR noticeboard that, if you're going to talk about two separate content disputes, you make two separate threads. I think we will get faster replies this way, as otherwise one thread turns into a hairball -- as they do on the 2017-18 talkpage, and look how far that has (not) gotten us. It's in both of our interests to resolve these issues. Cheers, and have a great day. --Calthinus (talk) 17:09, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

Calthinus: The following will be frank, I'm sorry for that. I really doubted if you were willing to resolve the issues when I saw your clear misinterpretation of OR policy in Talk:2017–18 Iranian protests#Background, while I tried to adhere to the clear text of the policy all the time. Was it really necessary to have a third party, bringing up the same issue I was objecting? Thanks for the advice and for the great wishes, have a nice life. --Mhhossein talk 18:47, 14 January 2018 (UTC)
Well, I am willing to resolve the issues, and as has been more than evident the two of us have quite different understandings of policy. We now have a 2018 source which mentions the length Khamenei's and discusses the protests [[2]]. Best. --Calthinus (talk) 20:52, 14 January 2018 (UTC)

WikiCup 2018 March newsletter

And so ends the first round of the competition, with 4 points required to qualify for round 2. With 53 contestants qualifying, the groups for round 2 are slightly smaller than usual, with the two leaders from each group due to qualify for round 3 as well as the top sixteen remaining users.

Our top scorers in round 1 were:

  • United States Aoba47 led the field with a featured article, 8 good articles and 42 GARs, giving a total of 666 points.
  • Germany FrB.TG , a WikiCup newcomer, came next with 600 points, gained from a featured article and masses of bonus points.
  • India Ssven2, another WikiCup newcomer, was in third place with 403 points, garnered from a featured article, a featured list, a good article and twelve GARs.
  • United States Ceranthor, India Numerounovedant, Minnesota Carbrera, Netherlands Farang Rak Tham and Romania Cartoon network freak all had over 200 points, but like all the other contestants, now have to start again from scratch. A good achievement was the 193 GARs performed by WikiCup contestants, comparing very favourably with the 54 GAs they achieved.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 1 but before the start of round 2 can be claimed in round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews.

If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to help keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! Hello, I have no Idea how to respond to messages...

I hope that you can see this. lol Thanks for the welcome! :-) As for the template for Hosay, should I copy and paste the entire information on the template page into the article? I'm confused, sorry. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kb217 (talkcontribs) 20:31, 3 March 2018 (UTC)

Dear Kb217, you can respond to messages on your own talk page just by following what I've done in this message! See Wikipedia:Notifications for more information. Anyway, "the infobox may be added by pasting the template as shown in Template:Infobox recurring event in an article and then filling in the desired fields. Any parameters left blank or omitted will not be displayed." Does it make sense? --Mhhossein talk 13:23, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Your draft article, Draft:Baghdad Operation

Hello, Mhhossein. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Baghdad Operation".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Thanks for your submission to Wikipedia, and happy editing. Legacypac (talk) 06:40, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

Legacypac: Many thanks for the notification old friend. I will deal with it. --Mhhossein talk 08:02, 12 March 2018 (UTC)

1RR Violation

You violated the original author provision in ARBPIA with this revert. Kindly self revert.

Also note the lede is supposed to be a summary of the body. This claim is not in the body and nor is it clear where it is sourced from.Icewhiz (talk) 13:36, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Also this revert os a violation of ARBPIA 1RR original author clause, as well as being a BLP/BLPCRIME issue towards the BLP subkect of the article. Kindly self revert.Icewhiz (talk) 14:06, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for reminding me, but note that the "original author provision in ARBPIA" prohibits the users from reverting other's reverts. I did not revert your reverts, rather I reverted your edits. If you consider this and this as reverts, then you've already made 2 reverts, violating the remedy before me.
As for the edits; You need just to see the "Synopsis" section where the objected portion is explained using concrete sources such as NYTimes. Also NYTimes says that Bergman was accused of "aggravated espionage" by IDF, so there's not BLP/BLPCRIME issue and we can make proper attributions to stand on the safer side. For now, I revert the second edit. --Mhhossein talk 19:28, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
Per wP:3RR (which 1rr modifies) "A series of consecutive saved revert edits by one user with no intervening edits by another user counts as one revert.". My two edits were consecutive, making them one revert.
Regarding BLPCRIME - this getting sourced (and not in a good manner - to a book review lacking context) does not fully alleviate BCRIME concerns. This is also an EXCEPTIONAL claim (particularly since no criminal investigation or trial was held for Bergman to the best of my knowledge - and the text alleges a very serious charge).
I strongly suggest you self revert [3] which you originally authored an hour prior to my revert.(it is also not present in the body nor sourced - by the DS issue is here regardless - if you want this in, I suggest placing it sourced in the body first).Icewhiz (talk) 20:02, 23 March 2018 (UTC)
To show my good faith, I had made the self revert. However, per what you quoted above, my "two consecutive saved revert edits counted as one." Read the article carefully and you'll see what you're seeking for. Regards. --Mhhossein talk 09:58, 24 March 2018 (UTC)

April 2018 Milhist Backlog Drive

G'day all, please be advised that throughout April 2018 the Military history Wikiproject is running its annual backlog elimination drive. This will focus on several key areas:

  • tagging and assessing articles that fall within the project's scope
  • adding or improving listed resources on Milhist's task force pages
  • updating the open tasks template on Milhist's task force pages
  • creating articles that are listed as "requested" on the project's various lists of missing articles.

As with past Milhist drives, there are points awarded for working on articles in the targeted areas, with barnstars being awarded at the end for different levels of achievement.

The drive is open to all Wikipedians, not just members of the Military history project, although only work on articles that fall (broadly) within the scope of military history will be considered eligible. This year, the Military history project would like to extend a specific welcome to members of Wikipedia:WikiProject Women in Red, and we would like to encourage all participants to consider working on helping to improve our coverage of women in the military. This is not the sole focus of the edit-a-thon, though, and there are aspects that hopefully will appeal to pretty much everyone.

The drive starts at 00:01 UTC on 1 April and runs until 23:59 UTC on 30 April 2018. Those interested in participating can sign up here.

Invitation to WikiProject Portals

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

Many complaints have been lodged in the RfC to delete all portals, pointing out their various problems. They say that many portals are not maintained, or have fallen out of date, are useless, etc. Many of the !votes indicate that the editors who posted them simply don't believe in the potential of portals anymore.

It's time to change all that. Let's give them reasons to believe in portals, by revitalizing them.

The best response to a deletion nomination is to fix the page that was nominated. The further underway the effort is to improve portals by the time the RfC has run its course, the more of the reasons against portals will no longer apply. RfCs typically run 30 days. There are 19 days left in this one. Let's see how many portals we can update and improve before the RfC is closed, and beyond.

A healthy WikiProject dedicated to supporting and maintaining portals may be the strongest argument of all not to delete.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

Let's do this.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   10:22, 21 April 2018 (UTC)

The Transhumanist: Thanks for the invitation. Currently, I'm running at leas one portal and I think they'd better keep these informative areas. Having read through the RFC, I think there are major oppositions against the request. Anyway, I'm ready to help. --Mhhossein talk 12:33, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
Yes, I believe that if the !votes keep coming in the way they have been, there is no danger of mass deletion. No new consensus has been formed in the RfC, but it is not over yet. I figured that getting the WikiProject up and running again could further help strengthen our already strong position in the RfC. And prevent future RfCs by improving the portals to up-to-date status.
Thank you for your offer to help. The first thing you can do is sign up as a volunteer, so I know who to send updates and task suggestions to. While you are there, take your time, and peruse the tasks on the Project page, and the threads on the talk page. The main theme is to upgrade, and automate whatever we can. For example, a selective transclusion template for use in intro sections could really help a lot, by allowing editors to specify an excerpt from an article. As transclusion always displays the current version from the article, the excerpts would never grow stale.
One thing I'd like everyone to chip in with is updating the main list of portals by adding the missing entries which are listed on its talk page (instructions are included there).
Well, this WikiProject looks like it will be a fun and interesting collaboration. I look forward to working with you.
Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   13:01, 21 April 2018 (UTC)
The Transhumanist: Sorry for the delay, I registered my name. --Mhhossein talk 14:27, 23 April 2018 (UTC)
Thank you.    — The Transhumanist   14:43, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Rise and Kill First

On 24 April 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Rise and Kill First, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that according to Rise and Kill First by Ronen Bergman, Israel has carried out at least 2,700 assassination operations in the 70 years since its founding? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Rise and Kill First), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Portals WikiProject update, 15 May 2018

We are at 74 members. If you know anyone who might find this WikiProject interesting, please invite them.

The RfC has ended

The RfC was closed May 11th, and a closing statement was posted May 12th which says "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time."

Ongoing tasks

Some major activities that we are in the middle of include:

  • Adding the missing existing portals to the main portals list at Portal:Contents/Portals. Instructions are on the talk page. There are about 125 portals left to be processed. (There were 400). Keep up the good work!
  • Development discussions on how to migrate the subpages to the base pages. There are around 150,000 subpages in portal space, associated with the various sections on a typical portal. We are trying to obsolete them section type by section type. Currently, we're working on obsoleting the intro subpages and the "selected articles" subpages. Please join in.

Other tasks

  • The list of portals not ready to be listed on the main list can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals#These are not listed yet (scroll down to see them - they are marked Not ready). They are incomplete. If you want a specific portal to work on, please consider choosing one from that list.
  • Over the years, some incomplete portals (portals under construction) got added to Portal:Contents/Portals. Therefore, every portal listed there needs to be inspected, and any that are incomplete should be removed from that list and added to the not ready list at Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals#These are not listed yet (scroll down to see it). On Portal:Contents/Portals, I'm already almost done inspecting the portals in the culture section, and so you can skip those. The types of things to look for are empty sections (most will have a redlinked subpage), lack of "selected" sections, portal stubs with just an intro and end sections, and very poor layout (like seriously unbalanced columns).

Portal-building resources

During his work on portals, Broter found a quote randomizer. It is {{Random quotation}}.

Trailblazer: approaching the one-page portal

Broter has transformed the Portal:Community of Christ so it is comprised of only 3 pages in portal space: the base page, its box-header subpage, and its box-footer subpage. Its other other subpages are now obsolete and are waiting for deletion. Nice job, Broter!

Well, that's all for now. See ya around the portals.    — The Transhumanist   06:38, 16 May 2018 (UTC)

Portals WikiProject update, 25 May 2018

We have grown to 79 members.

Please provide a warm welcome to our latest additions, Wpgbrown, Cactus.man, JLJ001, and Wumbolo.

A lot is going on, much of it on the WikiProject's talk page, so be sure to go there and join in on any of the many discussions taking place there.

Elsewhere around the portal project, or related to portals, the following is happening...

New news template ready for testing

Evad37 has created a new template, with supporting lua module, to handle news in portals...

{{Transclude selected current events}} is ready to be tested in some actual portals. Let Evad37 know if you need help with the search patterns.

Noyster commented that "This is the best portal innovation since sliced bread!"

See the relevant discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Portals#Alternative to Wikinews.

Thank you, Evad.

Coming soon: Automatic article alerts (but there is a glitch)

Our WikiProject is now subscribed to the bot that makes automatic article alerts, but the subpage where they are posted has not been added to our WikiProject page yet because of a weird problem...

Featured portal nominations from two years ago keep popping up on there.

Please check Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals/Article alerts to see if you can figure out how to fix this.

Once that is remedied, it will be posted on our WikiProject page.

Thank you.

Note that, this will only track base pages, because to track the rest, we'd have to create over 140,000 talk pages for the subpages, and that just isn't worthwhile (as we're trying to remove the subpages anyways). Therefore, any alerts for subpages will still need to be posted manually.

New portal, still needs work

Drafting a new portals guideline

Deletion discussion survivors

Thank you to those who have participated in portal deletion discussions. There are still some editors out there who despise portals, and this comes across in their argumentation style. Wow. Such negativity. But, there is some good news...

Current deletion discussions are posted on our WikiProject page.

Portal space clean up

While portal detractors are trying to get rid of portals via MfD, we have deleted many of them via speedy deletion (per {{Db-p1}} or {{Db-p2}}). Essentially, they were bare skeletons, with maybe a little meat on them. The plus here is that speedy deletion is without prejudice to re-creating the portals. They can easily be restarted from scratch without getting approval, or be undeleted by request by someone willing to work on them. We have kept track of these, for when someone wants to rebuild them. They are listed at Portal talk:Contents/Portals#These are not listed yet.

We are also removing subpages, the functions of which have been migrated to portal base pages. To see which ones have been removed, look for the redlinks in our watchlist.

There is also an MfD concerning some of these at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Redundant subpages of the Cornwall portal.

For subpages that need to be deleted, you can conveniently place this speedy deletion template at the top of each of them:

{{Db-g6|rationale=of subpage clean up – this subpage's function has been migrated to the portal base page and is no longer needed}}

Then an admin will come along and delete them.

Please help list the unlisted portals!

There are still 100 existing portals not yet presented on the main portal list at Portal:Contents/Portals. There were 400, so we've come a long way. Thank you! But we are not done yet...

Please list a couple of them. Every little bit helps. If each member of this project listed one more, it would almost all be done. Many hands make light work.

The list of missings, and instructions, are to be found at Portal talk:Contents/Portals#These are not listed yet.

I hope to see you there!

Wrapping up

These developments make up just the tip of the iceberg. I'll have more to report in the next update, soon.    — The Transhumanist   00:32, 25 May 2018 (UTC)

Portals WikiProject update #008, 7 June 2018

The WikiProject now has 92 participants, including 16 admins.

Welcome

A warm welcome to the newest members of the team:

Be sure to say hi.

Congrats

Pbsouthwood has just gotten through the grueling RfA process to become a Wikipedia administrator. Be sure to congratulate him.

The reason he went for it was: "For some time I expect to be busy with subpage deletion for Wikipedia:WikiProject Portals as mentioned above. The amount of work is expected to keep me busy for some time. I am primarly a content creator and contributor to policy discussions, but would be willing to consider other admin work on request, providing that I feel that my involvement would be appropriate and not too far outside my comfort zone."

New feature: Picture slideshow

Picture slideshow

Evad37 has figured out a way to let the user flip through pictures without purging the page. Purging is awkward because there is an intermediary confirmation screen that you have to click on "yes". In the new picture slideshow section, all you have to do is click on the > to go to the next picture or < to instantly show the previous feature. The feature also shuffles the pictures when the page is initiated, so that they are shown in a different order each time the user visits the page (or purges it).

It is featured in Portal:Sacramento, California. Check it out to the right.

Keep in mind that the feature is a beta version. Please share your comments on how to refine this feature, at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Portals#Refining the Picture slideshow.

The one-page portal has been achieved

We now have a one-page portal design. It isn't fully automated, nor is it even fully semi-automated, as there are still some manually filled-in areas. But it no longer requires any subpages in portal space, and that is a huge improvement. For example, Portal:Sacramento, California utilizes the one-page design concept. While is employs heavy use of templates, it does not have any subpages of its own.

I commend you for your teamwork

This is the most cooperative team I've ever seen. With a strong spirit of working together to get an important job done. Kudos to you.

In conclusion...

There's more. A lot more. But it will have to wait until next issue, but you don't have to wait. See what's going on at the WikiProject's talk page.    — The Transhumanist   02:09, 7 June 2018 (UTC)

Warning

Information icon I'd like to warn you that your last edit to Quds Day violated the 1 revert rule for the page. If I were you I would self-revert and wait 24 hours before re-applying the edit, or you risk getting banned. OtterAM (talk) 05:44, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

Oh sorry, but as you were told on the article talk page by other users you yourself violated 1RR. Anyway, do you want me to restore what you had fabricated and could not be found in those cited sources? That would be a clear violation of No Original Research, one of our core content policies. Are you asking me to violate that? --Mhhossein talk 17:23, 9 June 2018 (UTC)

AWB task requests, from the Portals WikiProject

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Death of Mustafa Tamimi, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages IDF and Palestine (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

WikiCup 2018 July newsletter

The third round of the 2018 WikiCup has now come to an end. The 16 users who made it to the fourth round had at least 227 points. Our top scorers in round 3 were:

  • South Carolina Courcelles, a first time contestant, with 1756 points, a tally built largely on 27 GAs related to the Olympics
  • Scotland Cas Liber, our winner in 2016, with two featured articles and three GAs on natural history and astronomy topics
  • Cascadia (independence movement) SounderBruce, a finalist last year, with a variety of submissions related to transport in the state of Washington

Contestants managed 7 featured articles, 4 featured lists, 120 good articles, 1 good topic, 124 DYK entries, 15 ITN entries, and 132 good article reviews. Over the course of the competition, contestants have completed 458 GA reviews, in comparison to 244 good articles submitted for review and promoted. As we enter the fourth round, remember that any content promoted after the end of round 3 but before the start of round 4 can be claimed in round 4. Please also remember that you must claim your points within 14 days of "earning" them. When doing GARs, please make sure that you check that all the GA criteria are fully met. Please also remember that all submissions must meet core Wikipedia policies, regardless of the review process; several submissions, particularly in abstruse or technical areas, have needed additional work to make them completely verifiable.

If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article nominations, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed (remember to remove your listing when no longer required). Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Hello! Your submission of Death of Mustafa Tamimi at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and some issues with it may need to be clarified. 2014 Gaza War ('Conflict' according to Wiki)

Hi, Eric here. Do you have any idea what the Palestinians call this war? Alternatively, if you know a Palestinian editor, could you pass him my user name please, because I have a number of questions of this nature. Many thanks. Erictheenquirer (talk) 07:14, 3 July 2018 (UTC)

DYK for Death of Mustafa Tamimi

On 11 July 2018, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Death of Mustafa Tamimi, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that the Israel Defense Forces exonerated the soldier who killed Mustafa Tamimi with a tear-gas canister (incident pictured), saying the soldier had not seen "any people in the line of fire"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Death of Mustafa Tamimi. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Death of Mustafa Tamimi), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

I know you might not be too happy with me right now, but let me say, the Lion King reference was great hahaha. Have a great day man, --Calthinus (talk) 15:30, 4 August 2018 (UTC)

Calthinus: Why should I be unhappy with you? As for the reference to the Lion King, you're welcome. That was an attempt at lowering the heat of the discussion. Regards. --Mhhossein talk 10:56, 5 August 2018 (UTC)
Yep, I don't know if you're talking about the Lion King reference to me on ANI, but I enjoyed it, too... and it got me to watch this on youtube, which was great fun.–CaroleHenson (talk) 00:47, 6 August 2018 (UTC)

Syrian Civil War sanctions

Hello Mhhossein. Regarding this comment. Enforcement of WP:SCW isn't possible at AE because that is a community sanction. Someone applied the banner Template:SCW&ISIL sanctions to the article talk page. The same argument also applies to any 1RR violations that the person may have committed, if the general sanctions were used to apply a 1RR to the article. The only thing anyone can validly ask about at AE is for enforcement of ARBPIA or other sanctions imposed by the Arbitration Committee itself. EdJohnston (talk) 15:52, 15 August 2018 (UTC)

EdJohnston: Welcome to my talk and thanks for the explanation. So, in this case the user must have been reported to ANI. --Mhhossein talk 10:23, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Battle of al-Harrah

I don't see how we can include this on Wikipedia:Selected anniversaries/August 26 because the article says the date might have been 2 Dhu al-Hijjah or near the end of the month. Also, there are a couple of other problems that I noted in the article. howcheng {chat} 22:12, 24 August 2018 (UTC)

Dear AWB'er

I noticed over at the Portals WikiProject that you have or use AWB (or JWB).

There are some tasks that have turned up that are perfect for AWB.

We have many new portals, and they need:

  1. To have a {{Portal}} template placed in the See also section on the corresponding root article, outline article, and index article.
  2. A {{Portal}} template placed on the corresponding category page.
  3. A link placed at the end (in the "bottom" section) on the corresponding navigation template. For an example, see Template:Birds.

The new portals can be found on Category:Single-page portals along with some revamped ones. You'll need to use the skip feature of AWB.

If you have any questions, please {{ping}} me, and ask them below.    — The Transhumanist   01:59, 30 August 2018 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Cheers, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:53, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Portals WikiProject update #018, 04 Sept 2018

Bug hunt!

As you know, portals are now supported by a number of new templates, which are in turn supported by some new Lua modules.

Those templates and modules are being put to the test, in the new portals that have been created since this WikiProject rebooted, plus a number of existing portals that have been revamped.

The new portals, and revamped ones, can be found at Category:Single-page portals.

Please browse the new portals at your leisure, and report any and all problems that you spot. Post bug and other portal problem reports at WT:WPPORTD. Please report bugs, quirks, awkward aspects, or anything weird or off that you notice. Compliments and suggestions are also welcome. :)

When you report a bug, please indicate the portal's name, the section that the problem appeared in, and the name of the article appearing (first) in the section with the problem. Most problems will likely be encountered in the Selected general articles" section, due to quirks in a displayed article's wikicode that the lua modules don't handle yet. Your help in spotting those is of utmost value. Thank you.

Don't delete portal subpages just yet

For portals that have been converted to the single-page design, we are not deleting their subpages at this time, because we are working on ways to harvest the data from those pages. For example, the Selected picture subpages include filenames and captions that would be valuable for the image slideshows. Please don't delete portal subpages, for now. They'll be slated for d-batch speedy deletion after harvesting. Thank you.

Development notes

We are currently testing a feature added to {{Transclude files as random slideshow}} that allows it to accept both sourcepages and filenames. Courtesy of Evad37. This will pave the way for harvesting files and their captions from portal subpages, for use in image slideshows.

We need your help

The bulk of the work is being done by a handful of editors. But we can't do it all. We need help with spotting bugs, refining the search parameters in new/revamped portals (in the "Did you know..." and "In the news" sections), adding images to slideshows for a broader selection (they default to showing the images on the root article page but are capable of showing so much more), adding panoramic pictures at the top of the intro section of region portals (cities, counties, states, provinces, countries, continents, and other regions), to name but a few task types.

It is rewarding to be a part of the growing portal phenomenon. And you get to see its expansion and refinement up close.

Feel free to join in on the fun. ;)
