Dwight Mcneil
Yo. Why do you keep warning me about me putting Dwight Mcneil joined Manchester United youth academy in 2004? It literally says in the article "At age five, he was offered the chance to join the academy at Manchester United, the club he supported as a child.[6] He stayed in the United academy until the age of 14 when he started struggling for game time and was subsequently released.[6]". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terpsfan26 (talk • contribs) 16:14, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Terpsfan26: Hi, McNeil was also aged 5 in 2005, so we shouldn't assume which year he joined unless it's specifically stated. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:18, 1 May 2022 (UTC)
Tom Green, and "significant coverage"
Hello. I would if I could... The Wikipedia Library allows access to Proquest and Gale without having to apply, but Newspapers.com you have to apply for, my account ran out, and the renewal hasn't come through yet: I've got about 5 stub expansions nearly ready to go once it renews. You should apply, at zero cost it's definitely worth having... I'm reduced to British Newspaper Archive snippet search at the moment, which isn't much use for distinguishing significant coverage, whatever that is these days, from trivial, routine, purely statistical, or any other sort of insignificant coverage. I'll have a look for Mr Green, but don't hold out much hope in the circumstances (if he was called something more unusual than Tom Green it might help). cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:25, 4 May 2022 (UTC)
Vandalism
Hi! Would you mind returning to 2010–2017 Toronto serial homicides and reverting some vandalism from today and 27 April by IP editors? There's too much for me to undo without breaking WP:3RR. – Reidgreg (talk) 01:27, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- Another rollbacker got it, thanks. Reidgreg (talk) 15:18, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Reidgreg: Hi, I've reverted this edit which appeared to insert some factual inaccuracies. Mattythewhite (talk) 16:02, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
Phil Jones
Hello. I have noticed that you keep reverting my edit on Phil Jones for appearances. You keep adding his Premier League appearances and not his total appearances. On every footballer page I've seen they all have total appearances for the club. Why is Phil Jones' page not supposed to be that way? Cheers! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Terpsfan26 (talk • contribs) 20:52, 8 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Terpsfan26: The infoboxes on player biographies should only display domestic league appearances and goals in the infobox, see Template:Infobox football biography/doc#Parameters. Which pages have you seen all competitions included on? Mattythewhite (talk) 21:00, 8 May 2022 (UTC)

- Following an RfC, a change has been made to the administrators inactivity policy. Under the new policy, if an administrator has not made at least 100 edits over a period of 5 years they may be desysopped for inactivity.
- Following a discussion on the bureaucrat's noticeboard, a change has been made to the bureaucrats inactivity policy.
- The ability to undelete the associated talk page when undeleting a page has been added. This was the 11th wish of the 2021 Community Wishlist Survey.
- A public status system for WMF wikis has been created. It is located at https://www.wikimediastatus.net/ and is hosted separately to WMF wikis so in the case of an outage it will remain viewable.
- Remedy 2 of the St Christopher case has been rescinded following a motion. The remedy previously authorised administrators to place a ban on single-purpose accounts who were disruptively editing on the article St Christopher Iba Mar Diop College of Medicine or related pages from those pages.
When did he actually change his name? I see his Twitter name is Alfie, but most sources I see when I google "Alfie Haaland" refer to him as Alf Inge still. – PeeJay 00:59, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- @PeeJay: A number of sources which, in my experience, are spot on when it comes to the full names of Norwegian individuals give his name as Alfie Haaland, namely Proff (a Norwegian business directory) and the Norwegian Football Federation. Compare this to their pages for John Carew, for example, (1, 2), which list his full name of John Alieu Carew. As you mention, he also refers to himself as Alfie Haaland on Twitter. It would seem that he legally changed his name to Alfie Haaland at some point after retiring.
- Google News searches yield 1,610 results for Alfie Haaland, compared to 1,420 results for Alf-Inge Håland. Even though there might not be a massive difference between the two, WP:NAMECHANGES encourages that we, for subjects who have undergone a name change, "give extra weight to independent, reliable English-language sources ("reliable sources") written after the name change". Mattythewhite (talk) 16:06, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- Honestly, I've seen sources refer to Carew by his full name throughout his life. I'm not convinced Haaland has actually changed his name, he's just going by an Anglicised nickname more than his birth name these days. No dramas, just thought it was an interesting move. – PeeJay 16:14, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
I note that you added an October 31, 1876 birthdate. Is that the correct year? I'm surprised to see that an article in the February 17, 1905 Lichfield Mercury says he's 24-years old! https://www.newspapers.com/image/797503398 (I'll add that reference to the article, but not mention the year - everything else checks out - though notes he was born in Rock Ferry, Birkenhead rather than Bebington - which appears to be about a mile further up the coast. Nfitz (talk) 23:02, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Nfitz: Hi, a lot of sources are using a different date of birth of 25 November 1883. I've gone by the date used by the ENFA, who tend to be very reliable with this sort of detail for players from the early FL years. And this date makes much more sense in terms of Green's career, as it would make him aged 19/20 when starting his career in 1896, while he would have to have been 12/13 if born in 1883. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:12, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
- I wonder if November 25, is confusion with Tommy Green (footballer, born 1893) who is 25 November 1893. Perhaps I should go do some original research, and poke through the census and birth registry. Nfitz (talk) 00:14, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
Infobox time
Hi, thanks for informing me, but I was wondering why we had to include the time. It doesn't make sense to me since a player only plays once in a day so there isn't a point of including the time. If you could explain why we add the time as well that would be great, thanks! Mwiqdoh (talk) 09:56, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
- @Mwiqdoh: Hi, we should include the time (via a timestamp) as this makes it unambiguously clear the point at which the stats are up to date. If we display just the date and a player played a match the same day, readers can't be certain whether the stats were updated before or after the match. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:19, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

I put in sources used in other footballers' pages here in Wikipedia, who were part of the 2017-18 Real Madrid winning squad. 186.188.176.157 (talk) 08:13, 24 May 2022 (UTC)
- @186.188.176.157: I feel we need better sourcing for it to be included. I don't think the Real Madrid site is independent enough to use as a source here, Soccerway are notoriously poor for honours as they include competitions for any player who was part of the winning club's squads regardless of whether the player actually received a medal, and the BBC and UEFA reports don't mention Ceballos. Mattythewhite (talk) 12:52, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
Cropping photos
I just crop with MS Paint and that's it. Apart from the infobox pic of Bellingham the younger, which my other half, who takes photography seriously, cloned someone else's leg out of (there's still a bit of Lyle Taylor's hair in the bottom LH corner :-) but it's beyond my comprehension that one can do such a thing. Years ago, I had MS Photo Editor, and did occasionally brighten an image up, but haven't done that for ages. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:45, 26 May 2022 (UTC)
AlexGamer2304 continuing to make unsourced edits despite warnings
Hey Matty, you warned AlexGamer2304 (talk · contribs) this editor for making unsourced edits last month, and then I gave them a final warning a week ago for the same thing. They then make yet another unsourced edit on Erling Haaland seen here after their final warning. Would a short block be in order? --TylerBurden (talk) 14:01, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

This article should be observed by administrators. For example: this revision is horrible
The actual revision with the use of the word "teenager" for an 18-year-old-person seems also problematic. At this point there isn't any kind of official verdict, so I don't know if this whole issue should be even mentioned in the article at this point. You seem to have a lot of experience here with difficult issues, so I hoped you could help. --SükürFan (talk) 20:31, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
- @SükürFan: Hi, I've removed the part that was referenced using a tabloid source, in line with WP:BLPRS, and have removed from public view some of the revisions made by the IP who made the edit you refer to above. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:46, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Why did you revert?
You marked my edit incorrect, I left a citation for his place on the official manchester city squad https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MobileDiff/1092971168 . Per the Premier League rules Section U.6.2 and Section V.1.2, Erling Haaland is a Manchester City player that is contracted to the club, but not yet registered. Therefore it would be improper to mark him as a Borussia Dortmund player. https://resources.premierleague.com/premierleague/document/2022/04/07/c0d0f725-3fe3-4470-ba6c-ed83c7aa75fe/PL_Handbook_2021_22_DIGITAL_07-04-22.pdf

- @Ayoubmk616: Per Man City's statement, Haaland "will join the Club on 1 July". While they may have already made a profile for him on their website, this doesn't mean he's officially their player yet. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:51, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
Darwin Núñez
If this is the case, and he's no longer a Benfica player, he should be removed from S.L. Benfica article. SLBedit (talk) 22:12, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Recent revert
Hi, could you explain this revert on Erling Haaland? The best player thing is in the lead, and since the lead should generally draw from the body of the article, I think it makes sense to include it given that it is also the section where the sources for it are. --TylerBurden (talk) 22:43, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
- @TylerBurden: Hi, I removed it as it didn't seem to be sourced. If it is sourced or if you're able to, I wouldn't be opposed to it being restored. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:25, 13 June 2022 (UTC)
- The sources are in the section, at the end of the first paragraph in "Style of play". Like I said before the content is already in the lead, and the lead is meant to be a summary of the body of the article per MOS:LEAD, so it makes little sense to exclude it from the body of the article but not from the lead. I think you may have not noticed the sources which is understandable. TylerBurden (talk) 03:39, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I seem to remember on Youri Tielemans that I was reverted by you due to the reason that "presumably the A stands for something..." yet now while I see the restoring of a previous version I see the full name has returned to the error I made back in May 2021. I have however noticed some remaining clutter of the fifth club apps and goals code which was removed correctly. Iggy (Swan) (Contribs) 20:39, 17 June 2022 (UTC)

- It just haden´t been put in the homours list (winner, runner-up etc. medals).

Dear Mattythewhite
I would like to politely inform you that i partially disagree with your previous statement as Mauricio Pochettino has been sacked and worldwide news sources such as BBC Sports and Sky Sports have stated so. Jamie Vardy Page
Hi, You're not giving much explanation as to why you keep reverting this page after I edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Jamie_Vardy&action=history. I have been spending time trying to add more depth to this page because I think he is a unique person. Like for example: What exactly his playing style is because currently it does not go into much detail. What opposition managers think of him and the dangers he poses. His early life which is currently empty. And his unique non-League journey which is not covered at all. Please explain as I have made sure the changes I make are following the rules including citations and other aspects. from, Lawrence. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lawrence 991 (talk • contribs) 17:42, 26 June 2022 (UTC)
- @Lawrence 991 - talk page stalker here. I took a look at the article and much of what was reverted had cited Youtube videos. Youtube, in general, is considered an unreliable source because the content is user-generated, has zero editorial oversight, and often uses copyrighted material without permission. For details see WP:GUNREL and WP:RSPYT. The only times it can be cited is when it comes from a verifed account from a major news organization or it is published by a subject-matter expert. Alphonse Areola
Hello, I thought of leaving a message here because of our recent edits on Alphonse Areola. A player's senior career gets started when he plays his first official match for the club, and not when he signs his professional contract. That is how it is generally followed.
I'd like to give you few examples. Xavi Simons signed his first pro contract with PSG in 2019. But as you could see in his page, his senior career only got started in 2021 because thats when he made his official debut for the club. Same with Marcin Bułka who signed a pro contract with Chelsea in 2016, but never played any senior match for them. His senior career got started when he moved to PSG and played a senior team match. As you might know, there are players who get their senior career started before signing a pro contract. For example, Tanguy Nianzou started his senior career in 2019 with PSG, but his first pro contract was with Bayern Munich in 2020.
Thought it'd be good to have a conversation with you regarding it before editing it again. Wishing you a good day! Happy editing. :) Kokoeist (talk) 17:26, 27 June 2022 (UTC)

Jack Bonham nationality
Hi,
On the Stoke City page, under 'Players', you will see a Republic of Ireland flag next to Jack Bonham's name. This is incorrect.
Whilst Jack Bonham has represented the ROI at under 17s level (through his paternal grandfather), he hasn't represented the ROI at senior level.
FIFA rules state that a player may play for a national team (that isn't his country of birth) through a parent or a grandparent who were born in that country. Until then, said player remains the nationality of his birth.
So in a nutshell, because Bonham hasn't played for the ROI senior team, he is in fact English under FIFA rules. If he's selected for the ROI senior national team, he is an Irish national under FIFA rules. Until then, he is English, meaning there should be an English flag next to his name.
Many thanks. 2A00:23C6:B890:1B01:CC82:6BDA:8E15:4726 (talk) 22:32, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
- @2A00:23C6:B890:1B01:CC82:6BDA:8E15:4726: Hi, can you point to a source confirming these FIFA rules? As it stands, the source used on the article lists his nationality as Irish, which will be based on his international representation to date. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:36, 28 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello, it's not the play-off game I'm reclassifying as a league match but the FA Trophy game... neither of the sources mentions an FA Trophy appearance for Boyd in 04-05. BoroGuide does have 38 appearances but 32 league, 3 FA Cup and 3 play-offs as oppose to the current 31 league, 3 FA Cup, 3 play-offs and 1 FA Trophy.
I've noticed that stat archives like these can be transient, so maybe it used to have him down as playing in the FA Trophy and it's been updated? This is the match report for Stevenage's only FA Trophy game from 04-05 and Boyd isn't listed. Nonleagueapps (talk) 01:00, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Not sure if Yannick Bolasie has changed his squad number because it appears this doesn't seem to work at this point (no-one is shown on there). Hidden advice has been left in infoboxes (ignored) and in Turkish (ditto) (and rm'd) and at IP TPs (which may not ever be seen) in English and Turkish. Eagleash (talk) 02:54, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
- Checking the history of Yannick Bolasie now makes me realise that has been going on for ages re the edit warring. Not sure if anyone has seen Talk:Çaykur Rizespor on their website not showing the players at this moment to deduce any squad name changes to certain players. Emre Tezgel and Tom Sparrow
You removed my edits for these two Stoke players.
I provided the sources.
Both players are in the first team squad. Stokefan1863 (talk) 18:14, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Sparrow & Tezgel
I provided official club sources and my edits have even deleted again.
Emre Tezgel has played for Stoke in an FA Cup game.
Tom Sparrow has made his full league debut.
They are both first team players. 2A00:23C6:B890:1B01:3D6C:A30D:218C:7E6C (talk) 20:05, 4 July 2022 (UTC)

Tom Lawrence
No clue if this is how I message you but Tom Lawrence has finished his deal at Derby, there is no contract negotiations ongoing he is now a free agent , I know because he's meant to be joining my team rangers however as nothing is confirmed there I didn't add rangers as a team only put 2017-2022 for Derby , ask any Derby fan and they'd tell you he's left aswell, if you would like I could find you sources however it's confirmed he's left Derby Monthegers3517! Haaland Man City No.9
Man City's Official Youtube Channel announced he wears number 9 yesterday, then I made update immediately after they announced 3 minutes and I confirmed there's someone had also changed his number on Man City's page already...... Freefast (talk) 07:53, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Freefast: Yes, I saw afterwards that it has been confirmed. As we don't tend to cite squad numbers in the infobox, I would recommend that in future you include a link in your edit summary; that way, nobody should revert you on the grounds of it being unsourced. Mattythewhite (talk) 14:00, 10 July 2022 (UTC)
Wayne Rooney
I noticed you reverted my edit about the reports that Rooney will be the new manager for DC United stating "We don't go by reports and speculation". Thanks for letting me know. I am new to Wikipedia and since this information was widely reported, I thought it was appropriate to make the edit on Wikipedia. Is it only appropriate to make the update once it is confirmed by the individual or a reliable source? Jadedhippo (talk) 22:13, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Jadedhippo: For something like this, I would wait until it has been confirmed by the club, at which point independent reliable sources will cover it. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:22, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
- Understood. Thank you! Jadedhippo (talk) 22:25, 11 July 2022 (UTC)
Disruptive editor now making personal insults
Hello, the editor SM246400 (talk · contribs) that you warned for making unsourced edits is now making personal insults in response to the warnings as seen here. Making incompetent edits is one thing, insulting people shifts it up a gear. TylerBurden (talk) 16:48, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
- @TylerBurden: Thanks for letting me know. Mattythewhite (talk) 17:49, 16 July 2022 (UTC)
It is from the official website
Hello. Thank you for the message.
I understand how selective and proper wikipedia is in page editing matters.
But I believe that what I add there is indeed from the official Liverpool Football Club website, so it supposed not breaching the policies that existed.
On the other hand, I think I have to read the policies again to understand well about the rules.
Hopefully the information I provided before could be re-added, with or without my involvement as the fan of Liverpool FC, since it is from the official source.
Thank you for the feedback! 2001:448A:2022:A54:BDA2:BA53:EB91:FF71 (talk) 02:36, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
- @2001:448A:2022:A54:BDA2:BA53:EB91:FF71: Hi, I mistakenly thought you added the content without a source but I see now that you did, so I've struck out the message I left on your talk page. However, I don't think a player taking a new shirt number is notable for inclusion in the prose of their biography. Mattythewhite (talk) 21:48, 17 July 2022 (UTC)
Disruptive edits
Your edits in the FC Barcelona page are poorly unsourced. Where is Raphinha in your Source? I repeat. This FC Barcelona source Barça players have many important errors and isn’t actualitzated. raphinha is not in this source and have signed his contract a few days ago. Can you explain me? Vicpumu (talk) 19:00, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Where is Iñaki Peña, where is Álex Collado, where is Pjanić? If you eliminate this players of the FC Barcelona page cause not appear in the FC Barcelona official website, for the same reason, in the personal Wikipedia pages can i eliminate the part of the definition that it says that are a Barcelona players….? Vicpumu (talk) 19:04, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Vicpumu: If there are errors on their site, then we should provide additional sources that mitigate those errors. But isn't it possible that Barcelona don't consider those latter players, even though they are still contracted, to be part of the current first-team squad? Mattythewhite (talk) 21:01, 20 July 2022 (UTC)
Kalidou Koulibaly
Thank you for your message. The shirt number that the player is wearing at the moment is indeed number 26, which was announced by Chelsea. I understand that the jersey number can change at any time and will be fixed later. Thank you again for your attention. CHING WAI KONG (talk) 01:01, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
- @CHING WAI KONG: Hi, do you know if this has been announced by the club or is it what he's been wearing in pre-season? I see he's currently shown without a number on the squad list on Chelsea's website. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:16, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
Yes you made a mistake
Saliba is wearing 12 and Zinchenko has been assigned the numbers 12 and 34 respectively. If you were watching the Chelsea game you would know that. They are not giving theses players these numbers and going to change them again in two weeks ok ?> 178.167.171.139 (talk) 01:05, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @178.167.171.139: Hi, I've updated Zinchenko's number in accordance with the squad list on Arsenal's website, although Saliba is still listed without a number. Mattythewhite (talk) 01:14, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Zinchenko shirt's #
Hi, you made a lots of fuss, reverting editions of other users (at Oleksandr Zinchenko (footballer) article revereted edition of 6 users and at Arsenal F.C. - 4), but then put his shirt's # without making reference in the text (because in wiki isn't a praxis to make reference for shirt's #, as you well know). Please, not doing so in the future and be a little patient. We are needing to cooperate and to help each other. Thank you Noel baran (talk) 05:55, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @Noel baran: Hi, as you point out it indeed isn't standard practice to add a reference for shirt numbers (in a player's infobox, anyway), hence why I included a link to the source in my edit summary. The difference between my addition of the number and yours/the ones that I reverted was that I did so *after* Arsenal had actually added Zinchenko's number to the squad list on their website. So I quite agree with your point about being patient, although ironically it isn't me who needs to heed it in this case. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:10, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, yesterday it was published at the Ukrainian webresurce (https://football.ua/england/483381-zinchenko-obrav-sobi-nomer-v-arsenali.html, you can compare the time of my editions and the time of publication of the news) Zinchenko shirt's # and I added it, but not added reference, because as you correctly wrote "isn't standard practice to add a reference for shirt numbers". About making links at the edit summary, I didn't know (even met it sometimes). For these reasons, I (without any irony) asking you not to do these things in future, because we are needing to cooperate and to help each other Noel baran (talk) 13:26, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Jesse Lingard squad number
Hi Matty, I see you removed Lingard's shirt number from the Nottingham Forest squad template. Interestingly, when he signed, the club announced he'll be No. 10 but it looks like they changed their mind and I can not see any reference to this anymore. Thanks! JMHamo (talk) 22:53, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- Found this on Twitter - https://twitter.com/JP92827821/status/1550522011792859145/photo/1 ... I wasn't going mad JMHamo (talk) 22:58, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
- @JMHamo: 'JLingz' must have changed his mind, although it's not like him to be awkward! Best to wait for the club to announce their numbers for the season. Mattythewhite (talk) 23:34, 24 July 2022 (UTC)

Good evening, May you please check Barcelona 2022-23 season page? a user called Vicpumu decided to take everything on his own and deleted / changed alot of what included in previous edits from other users maybe he is correct & really improving the page but his way in not having dialogue with anyone is just immature.

Hartlepool
Hi there, I see you've recently re-added the league updator position to the Hartlepool United infobox section. I had previously deleted it and corrected it manually because it erroneously updates as having 22 teams in League 2 instead of 24 and I wasn't sure how to change this. Do you know of a way of correcting the position updator? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Michaeldble (talk • contribs) 12:52, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

Timestamp edit in football updates
Hello. I made this mistake when I started editing these pages several months ago but since I was alerted about that I take care to update the date. During today's foray unto West Ham players I made sure I put today's date on every update. Could you tell me which pages were not correct? Because I did pay attention to every page but maybe I am missing something Jarvis1895 (talk) 19:10, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Jarvis1895: At Jarrod Bowen, you updated the date but not the time, leaving us with a timestamp that preceded the time the match finished. In future, I would advise that you update the timestamp using five tildes (~~~~~), which generates the specific time the update was made. Mattythewhite (talk) 19:30, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Alright, thank you. I didn't realise the time had to be updated as well Jarvis1895 (talk) 19:32, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Why didn't you just update the timestamp yourself on Tyrell Malacia earlier today rather than reverting it, only to add the information moments later yourself with the timestamp? Just curious as none of what I added was factually incorrect. This sort of thing would really discourage editors from editing soccer related articles. Finnegas (talk) 21:52, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
Protection lifted
Hi Matty,
should you see it fit of course (i don't deserve any special treatment, guidelines are guidelines), do you think it's possible to lift the protection from Tiri (footballer) and Jordi Amat? Don't know (does not seem like it, in all fairness) if recent vandalism justifies it, all I know is that pages have been protected for months/years.
Attentively, continue the good work 2001:8A0:767B:9C00:F07D:EC73:36A5:50EC (talk) 19:43, 11 August 2022 (UTC)

Hi Matty, an IP changed the place of birth from Loughborough to Leicester so I looked through the article and saw no mention about it so decided to just remove it. I certainly will defer to you in regards to the standard but you might want to verify it is correct. On a side note, thanks for all the work you do protecting the integrity of football articles. S0091 (talk) 00:21, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- @S0091: Hi, I thought at first from your edit summary that you'd removed it from the infobox on the basis that it being in the prose was sufficient, before realising that it actually wasn't in the prose or sourced elsewhere in the article. I've now added a short early life section including his place of birth with a source. And thank you for the kind words. Mattythewhite (talk) 00:31, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
- To be honest I had no clue about football, given I am not a "sports" person, until I start editing Wikipedia initially with a focus on vandalism. Anyway, I know minding after those articles is a heavy lift and you are constantly popping on my Watchlist so I am familiar with the work you do. Yeah, my edit summary excluded the word "not" (head goes faster than hands) and in hindsight could have offered a better overall explanation. Thanks again. S0091 (talk) 00:42, 14 August 2022 (UTC)

Block threat
How do I source that in the website Peña does not have a club number? He uses 26 because he is still a player from Barcelona B. But as he is getting a first team club number he is listed with no number yet. SpaceCowboy1207 (talk) 18:40, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @SpaceCowboy1207: Why would we list him without a number when he *has* been assigned a number? Mattythewhite (talk) 18:46, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
26 is the number he has is still a player of B team, so he should rather be listed in the reserve part, or in the first team but without number as is listed in the website. SpaceCowboy1207 (talk) 18:54, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @SpaceCowboy1207: The player profile page also lists the other newcomers without numbers so is apparently still not up to date. The other source lists Peña's 26 along with the other first-team players, and is the number he wore for the first La Liga match of the season, so I don't see how that number only relates to the B team. Unfair warning
Hi there Matty, I'm writing because you recently gave me what I believe to be an unjust warning in regards to my edit to Darwin Núñez as I edited the page to reflect his red card, but you reverted it despite being true information and warned me over perceived disruptive editing. How on earth was it disruptive? It was true. He was sent off. Not disruptive in the slightest. I'd like to hear what you think was disruptive about it. Squad templates
Hey there. Is there a consensus on which players are added to squad templates? Looking at Manchester City's template, they've included academy players not listed in the first team. Nottingham Forest have given squad numbers to academy players, one of which has appeared on the bench twice this season, should they be included? Can't see what the "rules" should be in these cases. Thanks! UncleTupelo1 (talk) 15:21, 15 August 2022 (UTC)
- @UncleTupelo1: Not sure if there's a consensus on this, but I would lean towards only including the players that a club lists as being part of their first-team squad. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:15, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
Rothmans
Hi Matty, hope you are well. The footy project book list mentions that you possess a copy of the 1974-75 Rothmans Football Yearbook. Assuming that this is still the case, can you confirm if (like the various 80s/90s editions which I own), it has a page showing all the results/scorers/attendances and one showing the team line-ups by game which I can cite at 1973–74 Gillingham F.C. season? Thanks in advance! -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 16:23, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
- @ChrisTheDude: It does indeed, on pages 254 to 255. Do you want me to cross-check the article with the data in Rothmans? Mattythewhite (talk) 22:08, 25 August 2022 (UTC)
- If it's not too much trouble...... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 05:59, 26 August 2022 (UTC)
- @ChrisTheDude: So I've checked with Rothmans and ENFA (which requires a paid subscription to access). Below are the discrepancies I've found in Rothmans for league matches (page 254), although ENFA give the same attendances as what are already listed bar one where they do agree with Rothmans which I've marked in brackets.
- 18 Sep Rotherham, result 1–1 draw, attendance 3,660.
- 22 Sep Hartlepool, result 1–2 defeat, attendance 1,383.
- 13 Oct Bury, attendance 4,527.
- 20 Oct Chester, attendance 2,055.

- 1 Dec Brentford, attendance 5,570.
- 26 Dec Northampton, attendance 11,363.
- 29 Dec Swansea, attendance 9,977.
- 3 Feb Lincoln, attendance 7,150 (ENFA).
- 10 Feb Hartlepool, attendance 8,754.
- 17 Mar Chester, attendance 7,541.
- 23 Mar Torquay, attendance 2,748.
- 26 Mar Barnsley, attendance 4,916.
- 30 Mar Reading, attendance 7,340.
- 3 Apr Peterborough, attendance 12,297.
- 6 Apr Workington, attendance 1,176.
- 13 Apr Mansfield, attendance 7,872.
- 27 Apr Brentford, attendance 9,337.
- And for the League Cup matches:
- First round, date 29 Aug, scorers Peach, Wilks, Yeo, Quirke (page 548). Although ENFA give Peach, Wilks, Quirke, Yeo (including the goal times, so I'd be inclined to go with them).
- Second round, date 10 Oct (page 551). Mattythewhite (talk) 11:09, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

Captain
Hello again Matty. I've noticed you constantly revert people adding the fact that Martin Ødegaard is the captain of both of the teams he plays for, saying it is not notable for the lead. Is there some manual of style or agreement in WP:FOOTY I am missing here? Being the captain for the teams he plays for seems notable to me. TylerBurden (talk) 12:05, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- @TylerBurden: Being a team captain is indeed worthy of mention, and should be included in an appropriate place like the main body of the article, or perhaps even in one of the later paragraphs of the lead. But I don't think it's appropriate for inclusion in the opening sentence of the lead, where our priority should be on establishing the basics of what the article is about the notability of the subject. Per MOS:FIRST, we are encouraged to "Try to not overload the first sentence by describing everything notable about the subject". Mattythewhite (talk) 15:56, 3 September 2022 (UTC)
- That's fair enough, I was just curious about it. Thanks. TylerBurden (talk) 00:50, 6 September 2022 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of John Keegan (footballer)
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on John Keegan (footballer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person, a group of people, an individual animal, an organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content, or an organized event that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Template:Arsenal F.C. squad
Hey there. On 31 August, an IP user (92.251.168.110) added {{football squad2 player|no=72|name=[[Matt Smith (footballer, born 2000)|Smith]]}} into Template:Arsenal F.C. squad, and explained the reason in the edit summary ("Smith on the bench for the Villa"). Because Matt Smith is not in the first-team squad, I removed that line from the squad template on 8 September and explained the reason. Ten hours later, another IP user (92.251.171.158) undid my edit without providing an edit summary. I thought maybe someone wanted to added all academy players who are substitutes for Arsenal's first team during the 2022–23 season to the squad template, so I waited for someone to add two more academy players who were substitutes in the UEFA Europa League match against FC Zürich on 8 September. But nobody did that. Please see the revision history. So I removed that line from the template again today. I am assuming these IP users (92.251.168.110, 92.251.171.158, 92.251.207.106, etc.) are the same user. --Phikia (talk) 05:31, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Eddie Nketiah
I want Nketiah to be described as a Forward and a winger the two positions he has played for Arsenal. He is not an out and out striker. So why did you change this ?. 89.204.183.102 (talk) 15:01, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- @89.204.183.102: Because you didn't provide a reliable source to support your change, as I explained on the talk page of the IP were using at the time. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:03, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
There is no source for any players positions ?????. Are you an Arsenal fan Nketiah plays up front and on the wing and especially when he comes on as a sub ?. Are there sources for every player in the Arsenal squad and their positions ?????. I don't see any so why should Nketiah be any different ?. 89.204.183.102 (talk) 15:10, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- @89.204.183.102: You still should supply a source if you're making changes that could be contentious. I reverted your change, so the onus is on you to now provide a reliable source if you were to change it back. Mattythewhite (talk) 15:13, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
What are you doing ?.
I had changed the profiles and you left them alone and now suddenly you change then back wtf really ?. 89.204.183.102 (talk) 22:15, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
Why can't you just leave them alone ?. 89.204.183.102 (talk) 22:25, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
- @89.204.183.102: If you feel so strongly about the display of full names in infoboxes I suggest you either establish consensus for it (say, at WT:FOOTY) or find a policy/MoS you can cite to support your preferred format. Mattythewhite (talk) 22:25, 11 September 2022 (UTC)
But you are the only one changing it back ?. everyone else is leaving the changes alone. If i revert them back to the way they were yesterday will you leave them alone please ?. They look better and are doing no harm to the profile page or the infobox whatsoever. 31.200.145.59 (talk) 11:21, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
- @31.200.145.59: And I could point out that you're the only one changing them in the first place. I'm happy to start a discussion at WT:FOOTY to see what the wider community thinks, if you'd like? Mattythewhite (talk) 15:55, 12 September 2022 (UTC)
Jules Kounde position
The position is not specifically cited in the article, so I was relying on a number of the included sources already showing him playing at right-back, including [1]https://www.fcbarcelona.com/en/football/first-team/news/2767389/jules-kounde-makes-official-debut and [2]https://us.soccerway.com/matches/2018/01/07/france/coupe-de-france/us-granville/fc-girondins-de-bordeaux/2697123/. Harvey
Havery Elliot has go a premier league winner medal i added a source from his Instagram Ayden henbury (talk) 10:50, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Ayden henbury: We shouldn't use primary sources on a player's biography. Anyway, he didn't make enough appearances to qualify for a medal, and his profile on the Premier League site doesn't list him as a medal winner. Mattythewhite (talk) 12:53, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
He still has a premier league medal Ayden henbury (talk) 13:24, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Ayden henbury: Didn't actually *qualify* for one, though. Whether Klopp let him have a spare one is neither here nor there as far as we should be concerned. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:35, 18 September 2022 (UTC)
Administrators' newsletter – October 2022
News and updates for administrators from the past month (September 2022).
- Following an RfC, consensus was found that if the rationale for a block depends on information that is not available to all administrators, that information should be sent to the Arbitration Committee, a checkuser or an oversighter for action (as applicable, per ArbCom's recent updated guidance) instead of the administrator making the block.
- Following an RfC, consensus has been found that, in the context of politics and science, the reliability of FoxNews.com is unclear and that additional considerations apply to its use.
- Community comment on the revised Universal Code of Conduct enforcement guidelines is requested until 8 October.
- The Articles for creation helper script now automatically recognises administrator accounts which means your name does not need to be listed at WP:AFCP to help out. Hello Mattythewhite.
I have been correcting the UEFA Euroepean championship sites for 1960, 64, 68, 72 & 76 because they were flawed. According to UEFAs own official web site, there are diffenrence between the tournament & qualifying. The User PeeJay refuses to acknowledge the fact that UEFA owns (official) website clearly distincs between thise two things & belive that only the semifinals are "the tournamnet" this is not true (again according to UEFAs own web site) but he keeps making the wrong assertion on this point & obviously doesn't want to read the links/references that clearly states that some of the knock-out phases are also part of the official tournament. Hello Mattythewhite (again)
As a 2nd part PeeJay also incorrectly deletes facts about reocrds & statistics, depite all the facts are true. I suspect that PeeJay is personally what is commonly known as a Ronaldo fanboy, which he has every right to be, however he cleraly ddeletes true facts, to try & make Ronaldo looks better by deleteing other players achievements.
