RE: Leeds United A.F.C.

Could you explain your reverts at Leeds United A.F.C.? The columns are uneven after your edit as the number of players on each column is unequal. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 23:01, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Italic text The number of players in each column may not be even, but the players in that order make both sides, neater and looks neater than having the list lop sided onto the left side.

Also to add apologies for entering all the loan info and putting Q.P.R instead of Queens Park Rangers --Tholynski (talk) 23:14, 26 November 2009

Icke

It looks odd with two infoboxes, and raises the question as to whether we would need more, given that he's done so much (e.g. a politician box for when he was a Green's spokesman, a television newsreader box etc), each of them repeating his basic stats. Your GA nomination of Richard Pacquette

The article Richard Pacquette you nominated as a good article has been placed on hold . It hasn't failed because it's basically a good article, but there are some minor changes or clarifications needed to be addressed. If these are fixed within seven days, the article will pass, otherwise it will fail. See Talk:Richard Pacquette for things needed to be addressed. ♥NiciVampireHeart13:27, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

Charles pic

Hi Matty

I guessed without even opening the link that it would be Charles :-) Looking at the page I don't think the picture is usable. I was able to use the other one because when the club changed names they put up a temporary "holding" site at the new URL with basic information, and for some reason all the pages of that site had a Commons license tag on them. When they launched the "proper" new site, though, that tag disappeared and all the pages now show as (c) the club. So I think you might have to wait till you can snap him in action once the season starts....... -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 08:00, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

{{0}}

I am quite aware that is one of it's uses. However it's rudimentary basic table layout that a tables that the column should, if possible (which it clearly is here on Wiki) follow directly below the label which describes it.. If you can find me published examples of tables without this formatting I'd be interested to see them. The template is designed to encompass four figures in the appearances column and three figures in the goals column. If a player's statistics then it seems plain common sense to align it as intended if filled. Leaving it unaligned makes it looks simply amateurish in my opinion. Earl CG (talk) 20:31, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
What did I say which disagreed with that? Note that none of the examples feature titles. Earl CG (talk) 22:23, 30 June 2009 (UTC)
As I said before, I realise that is is it's primary intended functions. However, no where in that article does it say that it cannot be used for other functions, nor do any of the examples feature titles. There's a clear ambiguity there; you seem to be of the opinion that things have to be written in stone to be allowable, while I am of the opinion that the end result is the most important thing. I would challenge you once again to find me a published example of a table where the data is misaligned with the title but, to be honest, I'm beyond caring any more - you are without doubt the most petty individual I have come across in my decade of internet use. Earl CG (talk) 10:53, 1 July 2009 (UTC)
My "attitude" is because you simply don't seem prepared to listen to my argument or response to my questions. You still haven't provided me with a reason that this is bad practice beyond "because that's not what the template's for" or "because it doesn't mention it on this page" which are circular arguments at best, if they qualify as any kind of justification at all. Equally you still have declined to provide any examples of such poor formatting in published tables. If you are unwilling to make any progress in this discussion, then I simply don't see the point in continuing repeating myself. I'm afraid I simply do not understand people like yourself who sacrifice an improved end result purely due to they're cast-iron perception of the status quo. Earl CG (talk) 11:19, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Brighton & Hove Albion kits

Hello there, I was just wondering if you (or any other Wikipedia contributor) would be able to sort out the Away kit and the third kit on the main page for Brighton & Hove Albion. I unfortunatley don't know how to do this and after several attempts it went well and truly wrong.

This is the new Brighton away kit: http://www.seagullshop.co.uk/files//Replica_Kit/away_shirt.jpg

And this is the third kit, which was last seasons away shirt: http://www.seagullshop.co.uk/files//Replica_Kit/away_shirt_Tommy.jpg

I would be seriously grateful if these edits can be made. RM-Taylor (talk) 22:13, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi, Am I missing something. As Spurs are playing tonight (and losing as I writre this!) some are running around with new numbers on their backs, e.g. Defoe is being changed to 18. But there seems to be a rush to change squad numbers everywhere. Do you have an info on thisTmol42 (talk) 20:41, 24 July 2009 (UTC)

the 5 August.

Well I think it's the way I would say it, so very often I tend to write down how it would be said instead of the proper context. WIGAN stuff

Hi there MATTY, VASCO here, hope all's fine with you,

Regarding your reverting of my edits at Antonio Amaya, i'll explain why i input that: mainly because of Mohamed Diamé, i believe both players should be mentioned in each other's "pieces".

You claim the latter has not been signed; truth is mate the transfer has been put on hold, because of heart problems. I added a Spanish REF (#3 in his article) which refers to that (please see this http://www.marca.com/2009/08/14/futbol/equipos/rayo/1250232313.html). The main title ("El corazón de Diamé...) is already duly translated and with original wording in WP article. Moreover, in the third smaller title it reads: "El futuro de Amaya, incluido en la operación, incierto". Most obviously i translate it for you my friend; it says: "Amaya (also included in deal)'s future uncertain". What are your views after this my friend? Should both players be similar in contents (of course only regarding this impending deal/no deal) or not?

Cheers, take care, from Portugal,

A tag has been placed on Philippe Davies requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Large vandal/vandal at large

Hi there MATTY, VASCO here,

Could you please have a look at this anon "user", considering a possible block? 81.102.32.53 has been vandalizing several pages for quite some time now, but luckily he has a static IP (i have seen his history, here it is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/81.102.32.53).

For instance, take a look at what he did at Antonio López Guerrero (i have already reverted to last good edit). Also, i saw in his talk page he has been repeatedly warned, including by you three times in last month (please see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:81.102.32.53). Any thoughts, mate?

Football vandal

Hi there MATTY, VASCO here,

A serious situation has arisen!! I found out about this vandal, User:Marvingroves, while browsing some footballers, and addressed this situation to you and a couple other more members of "The Force", to see what we can do. I took some time to browse through his edits (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Marvingroves) and, after seeing he edits solely on soccer, i knew whom i had to address. I am not going to report it to WP:AIV to obtain the same old answers: "User must have been warned several times", "User must be active this moment", etc. Furthermore, after nearly three weeks of vandalizing, he has not received yet one warning - another thing AIV strongly puts its finger on for accurate reports.

And what does this "user" do, you ask? I'll tell you, with three good examples: in José Manuel Pinto and Albert Jorquera, he stated that both players were Spanish internationals, when they are NOT!! In Santiago Ezquerro, he felt generous, and inserted +100 (!!!) goals for the player at Athletic Bilbao. I do not need to see more edits of him to know it is a vandal (vandalism is not only rubbish words, death threats and akin, this is also i believe).

Any suggestions mate? Ty very much in advance. From Portugal,

VASCO AMARAL - --NothingButAGoodNothing (talk) 00:13, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Dan Preston

Hello. You added a middle name to Dan Preston, sourced to FindMyPast's search page. I searched for a Daniel Preston in September 1991, there were none, so added October, not unlikely that his birth wasn't registered till the October, and got two results. The one you added, registered in Birmingham, and a Daniel George registered in Rotherham. Without paying, there was no way I could tell which was the right actual date of birth. Do you have a subscription that lets you see full details, to confirm that Daniel Sean is the right one? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 12:29, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

A perfectly reasonable assumption, in my opinion, but on BLPs we ought to be picky. I'll take it out till a source turns up for him being born in Birmingham, as opposed to the several that just say he was raised there. Soon as one does, it'll go straight back in. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:45, 7 October 2009 (UTC)

Begovic

Hi Matty, your last edit to Begovic has made a bit wrong, you have added a year which is ok but it repeats 2008 2008 so 2009 is correct and the information is that he left yeovil last november and is back at portsmouth since then and he has played one match for portsmouth this year so he has returned to his original club that loaned him out , I am unsure how we do that, when the subject returns to the club that loaned him out? Anyway it is for sure not correct now. Could you have another look at it, thanks Off2riorob (talk) 16:02, 13 October 2009 (UTC)

I reeeeeeealy am not trying to tread on your work done in the Football project and I see how much you've added to it in total, but unfortunately I can't surrender here[1]. The guidelines of notability are very specific within the project and this player fits completely. I'm in the process of trying to get rid of the junk in the project at levels 10 and below that aren't even close to the lowest stretches of notability levels, but a players at level 2 is straightforward. Just... sigh. I admit I can get stubborn, but I have to take treat something that should be left in the project by the general guidelines as much as I should further research others before I would PROD them. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to these articles, it would greatly help us with the current 141 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

Some help

Hello, I chose your name in the recent changes (because I saw "Matty", and my name is Matheus, the portuguese form to Matthew). I am from the Wikipedia in portuguese language and I need some help to contribute here, because I don't know anybody who could do it. I wait for some answer. Best regards, Theus PR (talk) 00:44, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. Well, I want to know where I can be adopted and the basic amount of contributions to vote. Theus PR (talk) 00:58, 11 January 2010 (UTC)
Right. In the pt-Wiki we need of certain number of contributions to vote in the articles for deletion and nominate a sysop, for exemple. Best regards, Theus PR (talk) 20:05, 11 January 2010 (UTC)

Bolton Wanderers managers

Matty, I've taken the view that as there are no other caretakers mentioned in the template that caretakers for one match, and an FA Cup one at that, should not be included. I am happy to revert this but as Bolton had numerous managerial changes in the seventies and eighties, it would become unmanegable and not complete. Quentin X (talk) 11:37, 12 January 2010 (UTC)

Hello, and happy new year, if it's not too late for that sort of thing. Was wondering if you had a reason for removing Mr Rea's county of birth from the persondata, or was it a slip of the finger? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 20:52, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

Deletion of David Owens

The article David Owens has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Footballer who has never played at a fully-professional level and thus fails WP:ATHLETE

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- BigDom 07:39, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

I have nominated David Owens, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/David Owens. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. -- BigDom 10:55, 14 January 2010 (UTC)

Apologies

Hy MATTY, VASCO here,

About Hassan Yebda, the following mate: i removed that REF and relocated it as LINK because i always felt (could be wrong though) that REFS were for newspaper articles, official website announcements, etc, whereas LINKS were pages with player profiles and/or stats, that's all. If you want to relocate it, feel free man, no worries, we'll then keep it as both (although i think a LINK is a reference in itself, just applied differently). And by the way, NATIONALFOOTBALLTEAMS states his birthplace as something else, just noticed it now.

Regarding my removal of stuff in nationality: NEVER seen a lead of an article about ANYONE (footballer, actor, serial killer) omit the nationality in intro; again, if i am wrong, reinstate it by all means, although i disagree to be honest with you. Since the player has opted to represent Algeria internationally, i thought we could have "straight away" "...is an Algerian footballer..." in INTRO, then say he was born in France but opted to represent the Africans in INT.CAREER, that was my reasoning.

About the italics, i could not be any clearer than by saying this: the only way i would not italicize that word would be if we were in French WIKI, i believe here it is a foreign word, as LA LIGA, COPA DEL REY (which i also put in italics, or hide link with SPANISH LEAGUE and/or CUP), hope i am not doing anything wrong.

Well, message me if you have anymore content worthy of discussing and we'll hopefully pull it together as a team (as good editors do). In addition, sorry (again, i incur in that mistake more than i would like to admit/happen), i am sorry for my antics in the edit summary - this time sparkled also by the fact i saw a good external link had been removed, apparently just because.

Take care, keep up the good work, have a good weekend,

VASCO - --Vasco Amaral (talk) 00:45, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
