Bot automation at Wikipedia:Today's articles for improvement
Greetings WikiProject TAFI members!
Over the past two weeks, there has been extensive discussion on introducing bot automation to assist with maintenance of the Today's Articles for Improvement project. A bot has now been approved for trial and will carry out the weekly duties. The bots first run will occur around 00:00, 22 November 2015 (UTC) (midnight on Sunday).
If you have been assisting any of the weekly maintenance tasks, please refrain from doing so this week. The bot needs to be tested and proven it can do the job, and it only gets one chance per week. The tasks will include:
- Adding the new scheduled article to Wikipedia talk:Today's articles for improvement and removing the entry from Wikipedia:Articles for improvement
- Set up the schedule pages for the new TAFI, except the adding of an image and caption
- Adding {{TAFI}} to the new article for improvement, remove {{TAFI}} from last week's article and add {{Former TAFI}} to the talk page
- Notify relevant WikiProjects that the new TAFI is within their scope
- Send a mass message to everyone on the notification list of the new TAFI selection
Updating the accomplishments and archiving selections is still done manually, along with daily tasks such as adding approved entries to the articles for improvement page. These will become automated in the near future.
We hope the bot proves to serve well, and by carrying out the routine housekeeping tasks we can boost the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the project. MusikBot thanks you for your service in helping with the weekly tasks in the past, and for your cooperation during this trial period :)

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Another meetup?
A while back you organized a meet-up in Eastleigh which I attended and enjoyed. I would like to attend another one but do not want to travel far. I am not up to organizing one myself; would you be prepared to consider doing so again? There is no need to ice the cake with an extra sightseeing visit as well, just a simple meeting of editors, perhaps in Winchester or Alton. There are a couple of areas of editing where I could do with some advice one to one. Yours SovalValtos (talk) 13:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)
- Hi SovalValtos, thank you for the message. I am pleased you enjoyed our last meetup and are keen to attend again. :-)
- As it happens, Winchester is my next target for a meetup. I have been doing some research and am thinking of making it happen in Spring 2016. As soon as I have a definite date (which doesn't clash with any Wiki-events) I will publicise it and let you know.

Neutrality
Dear Marek, Our page Sustainable Energy Utility has been flagged for problems with neutrality. We have worked on addressing it by posting a paragraph on challenges faced by the SEU. However, the flag still persists. We have spent quite some time on trying to find out ways to fix it but we haven't been successful. Can you please advise us on how we can address this issue? We would truly be grateful. Thank you! Energycommons (talk) 03:22, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Energycommons, thank you for your message.
- I would be happy to help you. However, I must confess that my knowledge of Sustainable Energy is very limited.
- My first tip would be to read the Wikipedia article on neutrality in articles: Wikipedia:Neutral point of view (if you have not done so already)
- I have had a quick look and it appears that the original neutrality tag was added by Mayurimeera in August 2015. It also appears that it was the first (and only edit) by this user User:Mayurimeera's edits
- On those grounds, I'm going to be bold and remove it. If someone wants it reinstated we'll discuss it then.
- Kind Regards Marek.69 talk 18:49, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Dear Marek, Thank you so much for your quick response. I am mayurimeera. As in, that is my personal account but I also manage energycommons. I don't know of adding any tag, but I did make an edit in the article and added that the edits were to address the neutrality tag that had come up then in the edit summary. I am new to wikipedia and am trying to figure out how this all works. But it can be a little overwhelming. How can I know who has tagged the document? What is the process to address the concerns in tags or as to make the tags go away? Once again, I am very grateful to you! Energycommons (talk) 02:25, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Energycommons, sorry my mistake, the correct link to the NPOV tag addition is here, made on 10 August 2015 by IP editor 2601:188:0:ABE6:18BA:9D03:B907:ADF2
- I have now removed the NPOV tag as, after reading the article, I do not believe it has neutrality issues.
- If you continue editing with a neutral tone, you shouldn't have any problems with this (However, I cannot guarantee that someone else will not re-tag it if they consider it has problems in this area)
- As for Mayurimeera account, do not use that any more. Forget or scramble the password. This is important; if ignored you will get into trouble for 'Sock puppetry', i.e. using more than one Wikipedia account for editing. This is in breach of Wikipedia's rules and you risk getting blocked from editing Wikipedia indefinitely.
- I understand that you are new to Wikipedia, and I do not believe you have done anything in bad faith. Understanding all of Wikipedia's rules is a huge learning curve.
- For now my advice to you would be to read other articles on Wikipedia so that you can understand and gauge the tone and style we use, and try to use the same in your article.
- Do not let the article sound 'self-promotional' or resemble a 'press release' (more advice on this in this article)
- Best Regards Marek.69 talk 02:47, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
Dear Marek, Thank you so much for all this information. I will not use the other account again. I will also do a bit more of studying into the tags on our article and will come back if I need any more advice. Thank you so much for everything! Regards, Energycommons (talk) 05:21, 4 February 2016 (UTC)

I notice you ran Gdańsk through WP:Checklinks and set many of the access-dates to today. Did you check that the url not only works, but still supports the material that the citation is attached to? Kendall-K1 (talk) 21:10, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Hi Kendall-K1, thank you for your message.
- I checked that all the URL worked (or not) the program does that. I did check that the url was relevant as well. Some of the refs are in German, so difficult to tell in the googlebooks page. (my German is not that good).Marek.69 talk
- Ok, thanks. Just wanted to make sure the bot wasn't doing this with no manual (human) check on the content. Kendall-K1 (talk) 21:25, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Actually, upon double checking, I noticed a few that appear to be a version of 404 error (in German), so I have corrected this. (Maybe the bot doesn't speak German either?). Best Regards Marek.69 talk 21:30, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- Some web sites redirect to an error page without actually returning a 404 status. Which is arguably a violation of the protocol. Anyway thanks for doing this. Kendall-K1 (talk) 21:35, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
