F8

I spent quite a few minutes chipping away at F8 and barely made a dent.

Based upon my progress, my guess is if I spent the whole day on it I would still not quite get through today's additions to the list. If you don't mind, I'd like to describe my process, so you can tell me if there is a more efficient way to process these.

Obviously, the format and layout of the information other than the image itself is different in Commons than in Wikipedia. When I do the comparison I focus on making sure that the following things are present in both locations:

  1. Obviously, that the images match
  2. Both locations contain the same license
  3. Both locations contain the same author
  4. If there is an OTRS ticket I confirmed that both have an OTRS ticket (although I have not gone to the additional step other than spotchecks to make sure that both went to the same OTRS ticket)

I sometimes look at the uploader but I haven't been rigorous and ensuring that both list the same uploader.

I start at the category and open a handful of images in one browser. Then go to a second browser and open the same set. Working with the second set, I then locate the link to the Commons image and open it. Now I have two screens, each with multiple tabs, the Wikipedia images in one screen and the Commons images in the second screen.

I then walk through one at a time make sure the images match, make sure the licenses match, make sure the authors match and make sure both or neither have OTRS tickets.

I think go through and delete the Wikipedia items using F8 as a reason. In some cases, when there is a large number of images from the same author, I will review them all and then use the batch deletion option.

This still takes a tremendous amount of time.

It would be tempting to conclude that if the transfer was done by the FastilyClone, that evidence suggest it does the transfer properly and that information would be sufficient to justify deletion and only those transferred by some other means need the full manual check. However, I haven't reach that conclusion yet.

Do you have a more efficient way of vetting these images?--S Philbrick(Talk) 16:22, 22 October 2016 (UTC)

@Sphilbrick: yes, I do. I use toollabs:magog/commons_images.htm. It helps you compare each file side by side. It is far from perfect; images don't always load due to Mediawiki constraints, it's ugly, and somewhat inefficient. But because I'm the only one that uses it, and it's not worth my effort to do things the right way. If you want to take advantage of the AJAX delete capabilities, you'll need to import the script under the if statement at the top of User:Magog the Ogre/monobook.js and copy it to your own myskin.js. Otherwise, due to technical constraints, you'll have to turn off your popup blocker, and it has to open a new window for each deletion, and you'll have to manually click the delete button.
As for content, I don't actually verify the OTRS ticket. That is too much work and I figure we should trust our agents. However, I do make sure that the information looks correct. The author shouldn't state "{{original uploader|...}}" or be blank or whatever, since those are obviously wrong. If they do, then I'll look at the ticket to find the right answer. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:29, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
This is funny. As I thought about the process, I considered how I would improve it, and my thought was some software that would bring in each image, and line them up side by side. I will try checking out your script, I do understand that when one creates something for oneself, you work on the functionality, and don't worry about making it pretty.--S Philbrick(Talk) 12:56, 23 October 2016 (UTC)
So what do you do when you run into a situation where the author is listed as the original uploader:
File:Michael Anthony Franano - 2012 Promotional Photo.jpg
c:File:Michael Anthony Franano - 2012 Promotional Photo.jpg--S Philbrick(Talk) 12:53, 27 October 2016 (UTC)
@Sphilbrick: For OTRS images, that is usually wrong, so I check the text description for the correct author. If that isn't present, I'll actually pull up the OTRS ticket. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:39, 28 October 2016 (UTC)
OK thanks. ::sigh:: there's a lot of work to do. (Thanks for all you do) --S Philbrick(Talk) 00:51, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
I know. I've asked transferrers to do more to ensure the data is correct. This is not always possible. FWIW, OgreBot always performs the cleanup 2 function on files ~24-48 hours after they are initially uploaded. This helps with many, but not all issues. Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:09, 30 October 2016 (UTC)

Why did you remove {{Now commons}}? The file is available on Commons. -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 11:59, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

@Blackcat: I stated that in the edit summary. Magog the Ogre (tc) 00:07, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
I don't get you. -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 14:49, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
@Blackcat: look at the file history. Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:33, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes but I read only "Wrong file format", thus I cannot understand the reason. A png cannot be replaced by an equivalent SVG? -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 16:35, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
@Blackcat: No, it cannot without going through another deletion process. This is the first criterion under WP:F8. Magog the Ogre (tc) 17:23, 30 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok, so what should be done? -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 22:54, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
@Blackcat: exactly what I said in the edit summary. Nominate it at FFD. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:39, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok. Please, then have a look to see if I did it correctly. -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 23:40, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
Done here. -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 23:46, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
@Blackcat: yes that looks good. You can also use Twinkle to ease the process. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:13, 2 November 2016 (UTC)
Ok thanks. Twinkle? -- SERGIO aka the Black Cat 20:31, 2 November 2016 (UTC)

Two-Factor Authentication now available for admins

Hello,

Please note that TOTP based two-factor authentication is now available for all administrators. In light of the recent compromised accounts, you are encouraged to add this additional layer of security to your account. It may be enabled on your preferences page in the "User profile" tab under the "Basic information" section. For basic instructions on how to enable two-factor authentication, please see the developing help page for additional information. Important: Be sure to record the two-factor authentication key and the single use keys. If you lose your two factor authentication and do not have the keys, it's possible that your account will not be recoverable. Furthermore, you are encouraged to utilize a unique password and two-factor authentication for the email account associated with your Wikimedia account. This measure will assist in safeguarding your account from malicious password resets. Comments, questions, and concerns may be directed to the thread on the administrators' noticeboard. Your opinion about some uploads

Hi. What do you think about this small picture and these uploads with mysterious description (maybe in the deleted user_page existed some explanation for this summary, can you take a look into it)? --XXN, 16:28, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

@XXN: the first file, I have no opinion on. The second look just fine to me; it's just a confused uploader. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:36, 13 November 2016 (UTC)

Hi could you restore this image here. It's been deleted on Commons as it was a sockpuppet's upload.—indopug (talk) 06:31, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

A new user right for New Page Patrollers

Hi Magog the Ogre.

A new user group, New Page Reviewer, has been created in a move to greatly improve the standard of new page patrolling. The user right can be granted by any admin at PERM. It is highly recommended that admins look beyond the simple numerical threshold and satisfy themselves that the candidates have the required skills of communication and an advanced knowledge of notability and deletion. Admins are automatically included in this user right.

It is anticipated that this user right will significantly reduce the work load of admins who patrol the performance of the patrollers. However, due to the complexity of the rollout, some rights may have been accorded that may later need to be withdrawn, so some help will still be needed to some extent when discovering wrongly applied deletion tags or inappropriate pages that escape the attention of less experienced reviewers, and above all, hasty and bitey tagging for maintenance. User warnings are available here but very often a friendly custom message works best.

If you have any questions about this user right, don't hesitate to join us at WT:NPR. (Sent to all admins).MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:47, 15 November 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Magog the Ogre. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tireless Contributor Barnstar
Thank you for your tireless work cleaning up files available at the Wikimedia Commons under WP:F8. Your dedication is deeply appreciated. Keep doing what you do! Mz7 (talk) 03:31, 16 December 2016 (UTC)

My progress...

After the awful drama that I suffered, I did take a break for almost one week. I did intend to take a long wikibreak, but I couldn't put my mind out of Wikipedia. I did a lot of editing on Cold War II (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) and some on Cold war (general term) (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs). I uploaded more images. However, I got into disputes, like in Talk:Oh Father (edit | subject | history | links | watch | logs) where other editors refused to let me switch the image. I even contributed to Murder of Alison Parker and Adam Ward (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs) but met opposition who considered me disastrous. I did make more RMs, including Talk:Hawaii Five-O, but that was soon before Talk:Hawaii Five-0 (2010 TV series) was made. Lately, I'm scolded for making a bold revert and then discussion at Exile on Main St. I realize that I found socializing and researching too irksome for me. However, if both benefit more than... I don't know, sole contributions, my opinions would be futile and useless. Must I put society and research before opinions? Must I be opinion-less person or something? --George Ho (talk) 10:29, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Moreover, I was told to socialize more and more. However, many article talk pages are nearly empty. I think about other populated venues, but... I don't know. I'm getting tired of hostility and politics in Wikipedia. I do want to continue contributing to Wikipedia, but I am feeling tired of reading words and words and words. Maybe I should meet others face-to-face. George Ho (talk) 21:11, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

Patent drawings

Magog, is it OK to move a patent drawing from US (en) WP to Commons? It is PD in the US because it is a govt. patent drawing. But is it PD in other countries? PraeceptorIP (talk) 21:38, 3 January 2017 (UTC)

@PraeceptorIP: Commons rules say the image must be free in the home country and the US. In this case, it's both, which are both the US, so you can transfer as long as it's actually a US government work.
As an aside, we've had disagreement on enforcing the "free in the US rule" on Commons, so you might find we don't always abide by it. But technically we should. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:55, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Files

Hi. Can you take a look at these uploads and the deleted ones from User talk:Unfetteredself? The description info may be a bit confusing, but comparing with the user page it is ok I think. If those deleted files of this user had a similar description, it may be necessary to restore them and to transfer to Commons, or, what do you think? --XXN, 16:38, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

File:A view of the downtown Anchorage skyline..jpg

Cleaning up recent messes while I have a chance. It says that you recently deleted this file here after it was moved to Commons. I was curious whether or not you were aware of old discussions at Talk:Anchorage, Alaska/Archive 1, where the question was raised as to whether or not the uploader was contributing original material or scavenging stuff from the web in violation of copyright. I would assume that this weighed heavy on why the file was never moved to Commons for all those years. Regardless of its status, I have a much better photo of the same view in my upload queue, just waiting to have the time necessary to touch up a few of the photos and upload them. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 02:14, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

@RadioKAOS: no, I was not aware of that discussion. People wait to move old files all the time, so nothing was out of the ordinary. If you believe it is a copyright violation, I recommend nominating for deletion on Commons. Magog the Ogre (tc) 03:27, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
It's probably safe to say that most or all those folks moved on a long time ago, so I'm not sure it's really my battle to fight. FFD is full of discussions of photos uploaded by long-departed contributors who aren't around anymore to defend their contrubtions. Like I said, I'll deal with it by uploading a far superior photo I took myself. Thanks anyway. RadioKAOS / Talk to me, Billy / Transmissions 03:32, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Commons Transfers.

I won't press this issue, given that you are technically correct, and given current policy "acceptable". However, given that the additional concerns arose after the initial tagging, it would be greatly appreciated that if you felt that the images were acceptable for Commons, you said so using your user name, and not mine (or that of a closed alternate account). Hi, I see from this you are listed as an operator of the CommonsDelinker bot. The bot appears to have stop working on the 20th March. I left a message for Magnus Manske on there commons talk page but they do not appear to be active at the moment so I wondered if you could give it a look and a kick as required. Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 16:58, 24 March 2017 (UTC)

@Steinsplitter: the commit history seems to show you have figured out a way to fix this. The bot is stuck because it can't find liwikibooks. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:25, 25 March 2017 (UTC)
liwikibooks exist, i have no idea what this is causing (maybe the framewrok used, but i am not familiar with that). --Steinsplitter (talk) 05:49, 26 March 2017 (UTC)

Restoring files deleted on Commons

Hi Magog. Could you [mass-]restore these files here on en.wp, because they are about to be deleted on Commons (there is available a script for mass-restore actions)? Undeleting them before the deletion on Commons is preferred, to not let the delinker bot to remove deleted files from articles; FastilyBot will replace the {{Now Commons}} tag with {{Nominated for deletion on Commons}}/{{Deleted on Commons}}, I supose, so everything will be ok.

Thank you so much! For improving the script too:) XXN, 10:07, 12 April 2017 (UTC)

Another Lagoo sab sock

Hi Magog,
Its been some time, but im 99,99% sure that he has returned. Clear cut, pretty much, so to say. The new sock's name is "Kojakkrags". Notice the same obsession with getting a select, handpicked group of editors blocked straight off the bat (who edit Pakistan/Afghanistan-related articles) on numerous attempts, in a textbook Lagoo sab fashion,.[10][11][12] This even though having made literally less than 100 edits. Also, notice how the editor interaction utilizer shows that every single article "Kojakkrags" has edited so far, was touched by Krzyhorse22 as well, which was his last CU blocked sock. Coincidence? Hell no. Lastly, he completely blew his theatre role by using a trademark edit summary which dozens of Lagoo sab socks have used in the past; "RVV disruptive editor". See also Lagoo sab, Fareed30, Krzyhorse22.

As you're the admin who broke the deadlock last time, and have extensive experience with the sockmaster as well, I hope that you're willing to take action once again. Otherwise, as you know and might remember, this fish is gonna try to evade the net for a another long period of time. He can't quit Wikipedia, and he's still doing the exact same thing he started with ~ 10 yrs ago; being disruptive on every possible level. There's no friggin' way that this is a new editor. Looking at the evidence and our long-standing experience with the sockmaster, everything seems to be pointing to another Lagoo sab toy. In your own words; very strong circumstantial evidence, but never a smoking gun. - LouisAragon (talk) 00:55, 2 June 2017 (UTC)

@LouisAragon: would you please take this information and post it in a SPI? That way it can go through the official channel, and possibly a CU, although last time the CU didn't help much. I'm sure LS will light his head on fire and pound the table, as usual.
Also, it would be super awesome if the people going after LS didn't always have some history of sockpuppetry themselves. The whole thing makes me want to tear my hear out. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:52, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
- Sure I'll do that.
- I didn't get the second part. Care to elaborate? - LouisAragon (talk) 02:26, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
@LouisAragon: I just mean, everyone complaining about the guy doesn't have completely clean hands. Everyone has been blocked for sockpuppetry, POV-pushing, etc. This muddies the waters for admins who review the case, as all they can see is users with a history of socking hypocritically accusing each other of more sockpuppetry.
Unfortunately, you been blocked for this too. I say this not to impugn your character, or to imply you haven't reformed, or anything like that, but as a simple statement of fact. Magog the Ogre (tc) 03:37, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Uhm. I was blocked by admin mistake, on the erroneous thought of being some guy living on the other side of the world.[13] Was promptly unblocked when it was brought to the light. Other than this admin mistake, I've never been blocked for anything else. Still got all admin emails saved about it too. This beautiful off-topic stuff aside I can understand you just scouted my block log, but it's always better to inquire/investigate something than to throw an accusation straight off the bat, IMO, when you don't know the person, or aren't even remotely sure about it. I'm totally assuming WP:GF, but I hope you understand that it kind of ruins the convo, and leaves a bad taste in our mouths. Especially because you're an admin and this whole fiasco in the past happened to be admin related as well.
Anyway, yeah, I'll make the SPI. Can I ping you in it when it's done? Bests - LouisAragon (talk) 10:21, 2 June 2017 (UTC)
Sorry about that. Magog the Ogre (tc) 22:51, 3 June 2017 (UTC)

Tour Logos

Hi, Magog the Ogre. Hope you're doing great. I contact you because I know you're familiar with Commons' rules and stuff, so I wanted to ask you if this kind of logos are allowed to be used: 1, 2, 3, because the same user has been uploading similar works in Commons for years now claiming they're own work, which I'm pretty sure ain't true and they're actually cuts from the real posters of the tours. Hope you can help me and have a nice day. See ya Biagio2103 (talk) 17:45, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Transfer of a file to Wikimedia Commons has gone wrong

Hi Magog,

a transfer of a file to Wikimedia Commons has gone wrong, maybe you can help.

The content of this file was uploaded to Wikimedia commons on June 29, but with a different name: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Newton_area_law_derivation.gif

I assume the image should have been uploaded with the original name. On Wikimedia Commons the name of the file is entirely non-ASCII characters.

The image is used in this section of the en.wikipedia article about angular momentum: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angular_momentum#Newton.27s_derivation

Right now that is broken: there is a silent error on that page (with the source code showing the error message: 'deleted image removed')

Do you have a suggestion how this should be repaired? Is it possible to rename the file that is now on Wikimedia Commons? If not, then I guess I need to re-upload the image to Wikimedia Commons with the correct name, and then flag the incorrectly named version as a copy. Cleonis | Talk 05:08, 1 July 2017 (UTC)

@Cleonis: operator error, see User talk:Sphilbrick#Renamed-to-commons images deleted instead of replaced. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:36, 1 July 2017 (UTC)
Hi Magog,
OK, part of the problem has been fixed (the broken link).
The purpose of Wikimedia Commons is to make files more accessible in the entire Wikimedia Space. The existing image, which had an english, ASCII-characters name, was uploaded to Wikimedia Commons with a name written in Arabic characters; that goes against the idea of making the file more accessible.
As the original author of the image I want to see to it that if the image is moved it is done properly. In my opinion, when the image was re-uploaded with the file name in Arabic characters that should not have been treated as a correct re-upload to Wikimedia Commons.
My intention is to try and re-instate the correct form. My intention is to re-upload the file to Wikimedia Commons with the correct name, and then flag the copy with the filename in Arabic characters as an incorrect duplicate. Of course for all locations where the image is used the link must then be repaired. Cleonis | Talk 12:22, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
@Cleonis: I moved the image back on Commons. That was a pretty rare case, really; images almost never get moved to Arabic names like that. Since Commons is for everyone, we accept the name under any language unless the uploader disagrees. Magog the Ogre (tc) 17:42, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
Well, as the original uploader, back in 2009, I DO disagree with the name change to Arabic. It's ridiculous.
I will proceed as announced earlier. I will re-upload the file to Wikimedia Commons with the correct name, and then flag the copy with the filename in Arabic characters as an incorrect duplicate. Of course for all locations where the image is used the link must then be repaired. Cleonis | Talk 17:57, 2 July 2017 (UTC)
@Cleonis: please read my last statement again. I already did that. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:24, 3 July 2017 (UTC)
Ah, OK.
(Here's how my misunderstanding arose: the statement "I moved the image back on Commons" appeared to say: "I confirmed the upload to Commons with the arab file name since we accept file names in any language, and re-deleted the file from the en.wikipedia repository")
Yeah, it's repaired now, including the page with the name in Arabic set as a redirect to the page with the correct name.
In the file description a single line with Arabic characters was still there, I just edited the file description to remove that single line with Arabic characters. Cleonis | Talk 03:24, 3 July 2017 (UTC)

File:EDSA.jpg -- delete Kjbaldio's dubious version and restore Docrx's

Hi Magog the Ogre. I'm requesting the restoration of File:EDSA.jpg's Docrx 2005 version (EDSA-North Avenue) The file was fortunately restored by Nyttend recently after having been deleted in Nov. last year due to "no source" reason, although it appears that the file restored is Kjbaldio's dubious, possible copyvio version (EDSA in Makati). I requested File:EDSA.jpg's undeletion via Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion recently after having gained new evidence that Docrx really is the author of EDSA.jpg. Like said earlier, it was fortunately restored, albeit in Kjbaldio's version. Although the file is still under Kjbaldio's version, I have already changed the desc fields to Docrx's version. Please notify me when you have restored Docrx's 2005 version of File:EDSA.jpg. thanks! JWilz12345 (talk) 12:21, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

@JWilz12345:  Done Magog the Ogre (tc) 16:03, 16 July 2017 (UTC)
Regarding this file, I have already added the information field ({{Information}}) of it, basing mainly on User:Docrx's contributions. Is the signal already clear for ot to be moved to Commons or not? JWilz12345 (talk) 13:04, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
@JWilz12345: what makes you so sure he created the file? I am not comfortable with that addition without solid proof. Magog the Ogre (tc) 23:35, 18 July 2017 (UTC)
In this case, I/you/we would/need to contact Docrx immediately about this matter—as soon as they make a single edit from this point on. If they won't give a solid proof, the file would either be re-sent to Wikipedia:FFD, or be imported directly to Tagalog Wikipedia via admin action (retaining file history and authorship and thereby no copyvio situation). Tlwiki's EDSA article urgently needs an old, throwback image of EDSA.JWilz12345 (talk) 04:45, 19 July 2017 (UTC)
I've already added a notice on Docrx's talk page to receive a confirmation from him/her that he/she really owns this file.JWilz12345 (talk) 09:47, 19 July 2017 (UTC)

Block

Hi Magog! How ya doing? Then, I received a block on Wikimedia Commons for uploading pictures under "free-license", however, when I uploaded (File:Fifth Harmony 727 Tour.jpg) the file which you deleted, the video (which the image came from) was under a acceptable license, so please, I'm asking you to check again the license of the video and if possible, unblocked me. Regards! LikeGaga (talk) 03:54 23 August 2017 (UTC)

@LikeGaga: I could swear I saw that that one wasn't free, sorry about that. Nonetheless, you uploaded this image, which is clearly not free. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:09, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

@Magog the Ogre: When I uploaded the second picture, it was under the "CC-By-SA" license, I had a conversation with the copyright holder via Flickr and he changed its license, however, it was reverted due the great number of pictures with the same license. So, he was about to send a e-mail to confirm and allow the use in the Wikipedia. I'm asking again if can you unblock me, there are others pictures which I have to upload. (Check them please -> 1, 2, 3). LikeGaga (talk) 21:45 22 August 2017 (UTC)

@LikeGaga: I've unblocked your account. In the future, please have the uploader mark the file as free first. Then when you upload, mark the file with {{Flickrreview}}, and the bot will come along and confirm it is available under that license. Then the uploader can change it back, although the free license will remain. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:11, 23 August 2017 (UTC)

Invitation to Admin confidence survey

Hello,

Beginning in September 2017, the Wikimedia Foundation Anti-harassment tool team will be conducting a survey to gauge how well tools, training, and information exists to assist English Wikipedia administrators in recognizing and mitigating things like sockpuppetry, vandalism, and harassment.

The survey should only take 5 minutes, and your individual response will not be made public. This survey will be integral for our team to determine how to better support administrators.

To take the survey sign up here and we will send you a link to the form.

We really appreciate your input!

Please let us know if you wish to opt-out of all massmessage mailings from the Anti-harassment tools team.

COM:TOYS

A lot of them... Not sure what's the practice on en.wp - to delete or not. I'll leave them up to your decision. XXN, 16:45, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

@XXN: Gosh that's a seriously borderline case. I could see it being an ambiguous question on a law exam, and I could see two different courts ruling quite differently. I think they're probably OK, but you can nominate for deletion if you want. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:33, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
XXN, see c:User:Elcobbola/Models which has some information about the subject. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:29, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

I want to recreate the File:E.M.E.A College Main Building.JPG

Hello i want to recreate File:E.M.E.A College Main Building.JPG which you deleted by citing its smaller size.If you give permission i can upload it which larger sized suitable for Wikipedia Articles. Please inform that to me. Rishad Pkn (talk) 20:54, 15 September 2017 (UTC)

@Rishad Pkn: I think you'll be OK. Really you probably should ask User:Yann, since he is actually the one who deleted it. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:35, 16 September 2017 (UTC)
Rishad Pkn: This image is copied from Facebook. Permission via OTRS is needed. Regards, Yann (talk) 13:11, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

I am not uploading that image but another image which is taken by me,but I am giving the same name that mentioned above,I hope it is OK, right? Rishad Pkn (talk) 19:55, 16 September 2017 (UTC)

@Rishad Pkn: if you took the image and it's a different image, then it is fine, yes. Magog the Ogre (tc) 01:57, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Missed on IRC

Hi, sorry we missed your question on IRC - which file were you trying to delete? -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 18:15, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

@There'sNoTime: no problem. File:Rouffach 1945.gif, and it still fails to delete. Magog the Ogre (tc) 18:25, 17 September 2017 (UTC)
Managed to delete it, but I did note the resource was 404, so I'm not entirely sure what happened there.. -- There'sNoTime (to explain) 18:49, 17 September 2017 (UTC)

Nomination for deletion of Template:Disputed-file

Template:Disputed-file has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for discussion page. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 19:57, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

You nominated this file for deletion on Wikipedia. There's now a file with the same name on Commons. Is that the same file? --Stefan2 (talk) 11:28, 10 October 2017 (UTC)

MfD

Both of your recent posts to MfD look like candidates for WP:U5. Did you consider nominating them as such? VQuakr (talk) 19:50, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

@VQuakr: yes, thanks. Magog the Ogre (tc) 20:49, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Javascript fixes

Hi, I've taken the liberty of making some minor changes to your monobook.js file, in order to avoid or fix some problems. You were loading reftoolbar manually for instance, even though this has been enabled by default for everyone for years now. i've also replaced some deprecated variables/functions. If you don't like it, please feel free to undo. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 12:10, 9 November 2017 (UTC)

@TheDJ: thank you; I appreciate it. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:32, 10 November 2017 (UTC)

Category:Wikipedia files reviewed on Wikimedia Commons by Magog the Ogre, which relates to you (and similar categories, some of which you created), have been nominated for possible deletion, merging, or renaming. A discussion is taking place to see if it abides with the categorization guidelines. If you would like to participate in the discussion, you are invited to add your comments at the category's entry on the categories for discussion page. Thank you. VegaDark (talk) 02:05, 13 November 2017 (UTC)

  • Hey, I pinged you here but perhaps you didn't see it. I was hoping we could have a discussion on the usefulness of the individual categories (as opposed to just using the parent category) for this project. In other words, I am not seeing any benefit to Wikipedia for these subcategories existing in their current state, as opposed to just having the reviewed files be categorized in the parent category. Would you mind adding your perspective as to why that is wrong either there or at the CfD discussion? Thanks. VegaDark (talk) 03:26, 21 November 2017 (UTC)

Only part of the file was moved to Commons. Can you please take care of the rest? Thanks, We hope (talk) 03:17, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

@We hope: Already done you can do it too if you click the old versions button inside the NowCommons box - I create the tool specifically for this use case. Did you still want to keep the file around? Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:17, 22 December 2017 (UTC)
I just did the "keep local" so the file would stay together until it was sorted out.:) We hope (talk) 10:39, 22 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello. I’ve just deleted this image at Commons because I could not find a license at the source or an archived version of the source. Please could you restore it here as a fair-use image for the infobox of Age of Feminine? Cheers. Green Giant (talk) 02:23, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

@Green Giant: the license is here: [14], but it doesn't exist for that image.[15] Given the uploader's contributions, I ignored it probably because I figured it was an oversight by Ms. Maize or her team, but fair use is a better move. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:05, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
Cheers. I’ll sort out the rationale. Green Giant (talk) 04:07, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

Regarding your edit on the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Wikipedia page

Thank you for your message. Unfortunately I do not understand what you mean by "commentary", "my own point of view", or "my own personal analysis". Everything that I have written is well sourced from independent documents, many of which are published on the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology homepage itself. None of the information that I have added is a commentary, my point of view, or my personal analysis. Please be more specific in your comment and the reasons for deleting valid information from third parties. Until then I have restored the edit. ? G nikiforov (talk) 11:45, 6 January 2018 (UTC)

Hi, you're the admin who deleted the file. Currently, its up for deletion on commons. I was hoping that, since you're the deleting admin, you might be interested in it. Thanks. Artix Kreiger (talk) 20:37, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

Description of Arigaeum.jpg

Hi Magog the Ogre!

I checked you already deleted the file from Wikipedia in English after I moved to Commons, but I make a mistake because I didn't copy the correct source before the file was deleted. Could you review the deleted version of the page and share with me the source field? In Commons the file only have "(Original text : Made by Stephen Smith, based on)" and I would like to complete it, like it was in the English page.

Thanks in advance!

Regards, Ivanhercaz (Talk) 15:35, 22 February 2018 (UTC)

@Ivanhercaz: I didn't delete it until just now. And I fixed the source. Magog the Ogre (tc) 02:32, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
