Undo on Robert Sprague Bio
[edit]Hello Magnolia677, Thank you for providing me with the information regarding paid contributors and COI. I am relatively new to editing Wikipedia pages and I want to make sure I comply with the necessary requirements. To ensure that Robert Sprague's information is not removed or altered without valid reasoning, I want to make sure that all Wikipedia guidelines are followed. Is this the proper way to list myself as a paid contributor:
{{paid|user=Benjibenji16|employer=Office of the Ohio Treasurer}}
Thanks again for messaging me with the helpful information, I would like to make sure that the page is properly edited and updated.
- Thank you for your help — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjibenji16 (talk • contribs) 15:01, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
To your most recent message on Robert Sprague Wikipedia page: 14:51, 1 June 2020 Magnolia677 talk contribs 13,535 bytes -6,905 Reverted 2 edits by Benjibenji16 (talk): "COI editors should not edit affected articles directly, but should propose changes on article talk pages instead", per WP:COI (TW) undothank
I placed the copy on the talk page weeks ago, as was requested prior. There was no followup, or review. I have been trying to comply with all of the wikipedia protocol. Please advise as to how the updated information can be posted and not removed.
Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benjibenji16 (talk • contribs) 15:10, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
- @Benjibenji16: Thank you for writing. Please let me summarize this so I have my facts straight. You are employed by the Treasurer of Ohio, and a few weeks ago you tried to puff up your bosses' Wikipedia article by cherry-picking achievements off his official website and adding them to Wikipedia. One of the volunteer editors noticed what you were doing and informed you it violated Wikipedia's conflict of interest policy, after which you added a COI notice to your talk page and re-posted your edit to the article's talk page (per Wikipedia policy). Then a few weeks later--when none of the volunteer editors either noticed your talk page post or wished to help--you re-inserted your edit into your bosses' Wikipedia article (including an image removed because it was a copyright violation), irregardless of a policy you knew your were violating. And at no point did you seek assistance on one of Wikipedia's many help pages. Is this correct? Thanks! Magnolia677 (talk) 16:21, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
Deletion of Scranton, Pennsylvania Fire Department information
[edit]Hello Magnolia677,
I am new to Wikipedia so I hope I'm using this correctly as intended...
I noticed you deleted my changes for undue weight. I went through and looked up exactly that meant. I'm guessing you believe I went into too much detail. Is there another way I should publish this information or a way I can get it onto the Scranton, Pa page without being taken down? I know there is a very active community of what are known as 'fire buffs' who love this kind of information. Is there a way I can add this information to Wikipedia? I feel as though it was adequately sourced and redirected to all appropriate articles for more information. What do you think?
Respectfully, AnthonyJohn.Romeo (talk) 13:58, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
- @AnthonyJohn.Romeo: Thank you for writing. The only other way I can think of is by creating a separate Wikipedia article about the fire department. Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Fire Service and Help:Your first article. Feel free to write if you need help. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:20, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
Hello Again,
I added citations to my info as well as a link to the Scranton fire Dept's Wikipedia article. Please review it for me and let me know what you think/needs improvement! I wish I could get a hold of the book for the complete history, but unfortunately the library is closed for the COVID-19 social distancing protocols. I'm still new to all this so I hope I'm doing well at this stage. [1] Respectfully, AnthonyJohn.Romeo (talk) 13:16, 27 March 2020 (UTC)

Regions in infoboxes
[edit]Hi Magnolia677,
I noticed you undid some of my edits on some cities' infoboxes. I know you asked my rationale on my talk page, I appreciate you messaging me however I was wondering something. Did these revisions you made come about because I didn't include an edit summary or because you disagree with my edits? I understand that the "Regions" subdivision is not administrative, however since I did include a link to US regions in general and then to the region the city was located in that this provides some additional context for the city/town. As far as I understand the infobox is supposed to be be a summary of both statistics, historical, and geographical information. I really do think that adding information such as regions helps provide the reader with a deeper context. Thoughts?Tpwissaa (talk) 23:48, 23 March 2020 (UTC)
Yandex Maps Reverted Edit
[edit]Hello, Magnolia677,
I believe that Wikipedia should always provide objective information and an unbiased opinion.
The article, which you are talking about, contains potentially misleading information.
In particular, in the Criticism section, it is stated that the satellite mode of Yandex.Maps is not as detailed as Google Maps. This statement is backed up by a reference (website), which I visited so as to make sure this info was true. Judging by the style of the article, along with all the grammar mistakes it contained, I considered this source not sufficiently reliable.
Therefore, I placed a citation needed template so as to demand further support of the statement. Note that I did not delete it, as you claim.
I really apologise if any of my actions offended you in any way or made you feel angry. After all, we want to help each other, don't we?
PS, I did specify the reason of my edit in the edit summary, contrary to your accusation that I did not.
Carbonaro. (talk) 11:07, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- You deleted a perfectly good source, replaced the source with a "citation needed" template, and left the edit summary "Never has the previously specified source stated such a thing". Perhaps I'm missing something. Magnolia677 (talk) 15:37, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
Wendover Cutoff Reverted Edit
[edit]You reverted my edits of the history of the Wendover cutoff - twice. I am a current member of the Lincoln Highway Association and have driven several of the roads in question. The history of the cutoff, the Goodyear Cutoff (contained within the present day Dugway Proving Grounds), and the original Pony Express route - and the controversy between the LHA (of the day) and the State of Utah is quite well known and has been documented in many places.
Please don't revert others work unless you know it is factually incorrect. Wws (talk) 20:20, 1 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Wws: Thank you for writing. Please take a moment to read WP:OR. If the information is well documented it should be easy to find a reliable source to support it. If you need help please see Help:Referencing for beginners. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:23, 1 April 2020 (UTC)

Page on Parchman Prison
[edit]Hello Magnolia677.
I'm very ashamed to earn a caution on my first day doing something on Wikipedia! I'm rubbish at editing Html. Really sorry. Was doing my best. I was just outraged when I read that Unit 29 had been closed. It hasn't been closed. I felt I had to correct this. And while I was at it, make clear that there remain major concerns about the place, as evidenced by the concerns raised both in the Department of Health inspection and in the ongoing Department of Justice investigation. I felt that the existing text deliberately obscured this.
I (reluctantly) sourced the page I wrote myself because it is actually the only place I know where the 2019 Department of Health Report is actually available to the public. Although the document is public domain and there is a link to it on the DoH website which I cite first, the 2019 report will not download from that link (I think because it has a hundred pages of photos and is too big). I have contacted the DoH about this and got no reply. Our blog page therefore simply reproduced bitmapped images of every page of that report and the all the photographs, with a factual breakdown of the contents and minimum commentary at the top, to make them available to the public, which they should be). — Preceding unsigned comment added by CarlyRheilan (talk • contribs) 00:45, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
Palm Springs, California
[edit]Hello; Recently you made some cleanup changes to the Palm Springs, California article. Thank you for the updates. The article was much improved. One deletion you made was the alternate name of the city used by the Cahuilla Indians. Because every other square mile of the city is part of the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians reservation, I believe it is an important aspect of the city that should be mentioned in the introduction. You seem to be better acquainted with WP guidelines than I. Would you please review the changes I made to the articles opening paragraphs. Thank you. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 16:38, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- @OvertAnalyzer: Thank you for writing. One of my edits was this one, and my edit summary was "per MOS:FIRST". The Cahuilla are described in detail in the history section. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:07, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
@Magnolia677: I did add part of that deletion back, but not in the first sentence. It is towards the last part of the first paragraph, but I put it in the context of the fact that half of the City of Palm Springs is part of the Agua Caliente Indian reservation. I view the Native American influence, and the reservation, as two important aspects of the city. Given that every other square mile of the city, in a checkerboard pattern, is part of their reservation, and the Native American people lived in the area long before Palm Springs was founded, their relevance to the city is substantial. They still refer to the area as Sec-He. As an example, they are developing a new spa in downtown Palm Springs called The Spa At Sec-He, not The Spa at Palm Springs. I agree the article should not attempt to describe the Cahuilla history as part of this article. My intent is to describe their relationship to the city as it is today, since they do represent a large part of the city. Hope that makes sense.
- @OvertAnalyzer: They are heavily invested in hotels, casinos, a golf resort, and an entertainment venue. They sell lots of "traditional" Indian trinkets all over the county too. I'd read WP:UNDUE before adding too much historical detail. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:26, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
@Magnolia677: I think I understand your point. I don't have a way of reviewing the original references that were provided in October, 2017, but it is hard to find many uses of the word Sec-He, or it's various spellings. In fact I have a book, "Cahuilla Dictionary", and it says the word for water is pa'-l and warm water is pa'-l si'wis is hot water. There are a number of references in the Palm Springs Historical Society's archives, but I don't have a way to access those online. Possibly some time in the future when this virus trouble is over. I am going to start a conversation on the Palm Springs talk page to get some additional feedback. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 01:31, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- @OvertAnalyzer: Sounds good. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:05, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Joseph Volpe
[edit]Hi @Magnolia677:
I hope that I'm doing this correctly, I'm relatively new to editing wikipedia (started doing this due to downtime from COVID-19) so apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong way. I sort of understand why you deleted Mr. Volpe's daughter as it's not mentioned in the link I sourced, however the interview literally talks about them living in Manhattan and Sarasota - it's even titled Metropolitan Opera General Manager relocates to Sarasota. What else would be needed? Also, and this isn't meant to sound rude, but why is it so necessary to provide a source to the fact that he has a daughter with Jean? It's basic common knowledge. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Petrouska (talk • contribs) 01:15, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Also, out of curiosity, why did you change Mr.Volpe's entry in Sarasota from former general manager to general manager? I'm just curious if that is a formatting thing or something else, as he is obviously not the current General Manager of the Met. And again, rather than going back and forth on the Sarasota page, why have you removed Iain Webb? None of the other people have sources, why does he? Petrouska (talk) 01:21, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Petrouska: I must have missed the interview. If it's sourced please add it back. Because Wikipedia has a no original research policy, everything needs to be sourced. Also, adding "former" is unnecessary. Kennedy was president, and that's what he's noted for. Adding "former" doesn't change that. I hope I answered your questions. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:10, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: I added it back in without the segment about his other family. If you don't mind, I was wondering if you might be willing to help me understand or come up with solutions to information I have that don't necessarily have a source for. Perhaps we could talk more so that I can properly explain myself. Many thanks! Petrouska (talk) 16:19, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

I see.
[edit]I do not get the reason why administrators are removed from Midland Avenue Collegiate Institute no. 677. Based on the TDSB and the Ontario Ministry Documents, even though you said "Removed admin, superintendent, trustees from infobox; school closed 20 years ago and is leased out", in other words, Midland is a core holding school. So closed school buildings that are still owned by the school district are classified as core holdings by the board must have a trustee and superintendent in the infobox.
To confirm via the documents:
- Good Places to Learn: Stage 3 Funding Allocation, 2005 - Page 260: Midland Avenue CI, building name was retained by both the board and ministry.
- - Long-Term Program and Accommodation Strategy, 2019-2028 - Page 94-95: The Midland Avenue CI information is split into Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies, SCAS Adult and South East Year Round Alternative Centre. Trustee information is attached.
In other words, this school building since 2001, is currently being used actually by other TDSB programs and services. They reopened it fully in September 2010 to house Scarborough Centre for Alternative Studies, though parts of the building are being used as mention above.

- @2607:FEA8:A760:1041:2942:F924:52DA:28A8: The first source states that 12 years ago, Midland Avenue CI was listed at part of the Toronto District School Board, and received an allocation from the government. The second source does not mention Midland Avenue CI at all. I looked though both sources and did not find anything stating that schools that are closed and leased out have a trustee, superintendent and principal. I may have missed it; could you point me to the page it is found on? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 20:00, 10 April 2020 (UTC)
- The school's name is also on the TDSB school locator and so the rest of the documents linked: [1], [2] (page 5) and [3] (page 29).

2020 Knoxville stabbing
[edit]Hi Magnolia, could you take a look at 2020 Knoxville stabbing? It seems like a newsy article to me, and probably isn't notable, even though it has more than local coverage. Just looking for another opinion before taking it to AFD. Thanks. - BilCat (talk) 23:59, 15 April 2020 (UTC)
- @BilCat: Thanks for writing. The only previous discussion I could find was here where a now-blocked editor proposed a body count of 3 or more. WP:NCRIME suggests non-routing news coverage, and Wikipedia:WikiProject Crime and Criminal Biography doesn't offer specific article guidelines (beyond typical notability requirements). I also looked at Category:Stabbing attacks in the United States and Stabbing as a terrorist tactic, and most of the articles had more widespread coverage or more victims. For example, Karla Faye Tucker killed (just) two people with a pickaxe, yet the event and subsequent execution had much influence on popular culture and media. As tragic as the 2020 Knoxville stabbing was, it appears to lack the in-depth coverage needed to push it over the notability threshold. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 11:17, 16 April 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. Your last full sentence was my initial assessment also. - BilCat (talk) 11:29, 16 April 2020 (UTC)

Darwin CA article
[edit]I'm not sure if this message will get to you as I can't seem to grasp this interface. Thanks you for providing a link to Wikimedia for those images. I think you may be very busy and I appreciate the effort you put into Wikipedia. You included boilerplate regarding the use of images. I must point out that every single image I posted to the Darwin page was shot and placed into Wikimedia Commons by myself, copyright free. This took hours to do, along with other photos not of Darwin. I also have images on the Nopah Range page that are original and the only ones at Wikimedia that show the Range from the ground. I have not used a single image from anyone else nor do I have any plans to. I travelled extensively throughout the Southwest for the last few years on a book project and can release a large number of original photos. I have written magazine articles for international, national, and regional publications. As well as local newspaper articles. It is unthinkable that I would ever use someone else's work unless they explicitly granted permission and then only if my editor would accept their release. Just FYI. Thank you for the work you do. Best and thanks, ThomasThomas Farley (talk) 10:44, 17 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Thomas Farley: Hi, I created a category for Darwin and added it to several of your photos. There's still room for another photo in the article. The authenticity of the photos is not in question; it's just not common to add so many to one article. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:59, 17 April 2020 (UTC)

Could you help out with the Nopah Range page I added too many images to?
[edit]Hello, again. This was my first attempt at editing and I went way overboard with the gallery.
If you have the time, could you arrange it as you see fit and add a link to Wikipedia Commons? Perhaps, then, I could use this page as a model as far as fitting images. I saw what you did with the Darwin page and that is all fine. I am now looking into how to insert a Wikimedia icon into a page and adding a link to it thereof. Thanks in advance for all of the work that you do for this great project, ThomasThomas Farley (talk) 18:09, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nopah_Range
- @Thomas Farley: Thanks for writing. Nopah Range is quite a short article, so I placed all the photos into the gallery. While galleries are often avoided because they clutter an article, on some articles, such as Nopah Range, a variety of images brings the article to life. Some of the photos could definitely be removed, but the variety of photos gives readers a better sense of this place. Please have a look at the article and remove the images that are mostly decorative. I'd also trim the captions to "just the facts". Please have a look at MOS:IMAGES and some of the help pages listed there. Feel free to message me if you need help. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:14, 18 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for the reply. Yes, captions are a weak point of mine, I will look over them soon. They are too long. I will also look over that style sheet for images. Thanks, ThomasThomas Farley (talk) 00:16, 19 April 2020 (UTC)
Foxy Brown Feuds
[edit]Hello there, I saw your request on the talk page on Foxy Brown and I agree that the feuds section is rather large and that a lot of it does seem like idle gossip. - @Magnolia677: Hello. I have taken out a large portion of the information on the feuds section on Foxy Brown. I was hoping you could maybe have another look and see if there's more information that could be taken out. Have a wonderful day. Maxwell King123321 (talk) 12:40, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Maxwell King123321: You went at it with a chainsaw. Good job! Magnolia677 (talk) 15:26, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you mean here. MOS:FIRST clearly states: "When the page title is used as the subject of the first sentence, it may appear in a slightly different form, and it may include variations, including plural forms (particularly if they are unusual or confusing) or synonyms."
Nearly every other national or subnational unit with an article has the name in other languages in the first sentence. 142.184.158.195 (talk) 23:38, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- @142.184.158.195: Thank you for writing. Please see MOS:LEADPRON. Also, MOS:FIRST states "Be wary of cluttering the first sentence with a long parenthesis containing alternative spellings, pronunciations, etc., which can make the sentence difficult to actually read; this information can be placed elsewhere." Adding multiple translations of the article title into other languages meets this criteria. This is English Wikipedia. Magnolia677 (talk) 23:44, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
- Just because this is English Wikipedia, it does not mean there isn't information on this Wikipedia about other languages, or entities which have or use names in other languages. English speakers use this Wikipedia to learn specifically about such things. Nevertheless, I will let the edits remain for now. 142.184.158.195 (talk) 00:41, 22 April 2020 (UTC)

Uhhhhhh dude. The nickname of Crystal Beach, Ontario isn't in dispute. Just add a "citation needed" and move on. No need to threaten people. What do you see in this picture? - https://www.cbbia.ca/images/welcome-to-crystal-beach.jpg TheNewMinistry (talk) 14:53, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
Question about Quality Images
[edit]I guess you know you get punished for being pleasant by people like me asking questions.
I noticed a submission on Quality Images was rejected because it wasn't uploaded or taken within one week. I've been unable to find this rule. Do you know where it is? Wiki name (talk) 22:55, 28 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Jim Evans: Thanks for writing. I've added tons of photos to the Commons, but have never nominated any as quality images. I looked at the guideline but didn't see anything about a time-frame. I wish I could help but you may need to use the Commons help desk. I've always had speedy responses to my questions there. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 09:35, 29 April 2020 (UTC)

Lovelock NV
[edit]Hi, Magnolia, I'm afraid I found your reversions on the arts section of this article excessive. It is your judgment that several of the authors and artists involved are non-notable. I found plenty of mentions of them on the web although not always in connection with Lovelock. Buck Nimy was though, in a book I found on Nevada, and if Maggie Remington was in a several news feeds, I would have judged that she belongs too. What you had reduced the section to was little better than a list, where guidelines suggest that material "should usually be entirely reworked into the main flow of the article" so as to avoid becoming a trivia magnet.
As you see, I'm happy to discuss and arrive at an agreed solution. I should mention that I have been editing on WP longer than you, and as it happens editing the article in question too, though back then before a change of name. Sweetpool50 (talk) 17:22, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Sweetpool50: Thank you for writing. My edit removed all the non-notable artists, which made up about half the article. Could you start a discussion on the article's talk page so other editors can join in? Thanks. Magnolia677 (talk) 17:38, 30 April 2020 (UTC)
Bonneville Salt Flats
[edit]Thanks for checking on my update so incredibly fast. My stomach demanded food, so I went for a tamale just as I was thinking I needed to put a reference in for all those dates and such. Updated and it should be proper. Thanks for being so diligent! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.195.164.109 (talk) 17:48, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- @162.195.164.109: Not a problem. I see from your IP you're in Ypsilanti. Any chance of snapping a picture of The Tridge for the Multi-way bridge article? Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 18:44, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
Oh wow, I've never heard of that. I live about 3 minutes from the street bridge that sits over this apparently famous tridge, so I'll try to get a picture in the next few days. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.195.164.109 (talk) 22:11, 1 May 2020 (UTC)

Done. I took a bunch of photos, but it's difficult to get a good view of that thing from anywhere around it. The one I chose shows off the junction very well, but I could also use one that shows off more of the "Y" shape from a distance. Let me know what you think. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 162.195.164.109 (talk) 21:29, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Various removed sections in articles for Ferraris and Bugatti including information about Materazzi
[edit]Hi, I was struggling a bit with the citation method in Wikipedia so it's likely that some of them did not appear.
In any case I will look again at the text and find where the original citations state some of the information I quoted. For others I will have to obtain more original documents. In many interviews in Italian there is a lot of information but one has to listen carefully.
Also, it may annoy some readers, but as an automotive engineer with experience in McLaren, I am able to refute quite an amount of existing wikipedia info which is, shall we say factually untrue, but posted in various articles nonetheless. For example when I talk about Benedini not having done as much of the Bugatti EB110 styling as documented, I know I am correct but unfortunately the media over time has hyped a number of things. So for this reason I will find images of other Gandini prototypes that prove this. For other things like the ownership of various turbo engines designs by Materazzi, again I guess the ultimate proof will be in some drawings on paper since not enough articles talk about this.
when I have knowledge from inside the industry, in many ways the articles online seem unfaithful to the truth. Like for example that Senna helped develop the Honda NSX. All over the web but factually untrue. So for the edits what I will do is specify at which part of a video or paragraph my statement relates to. And if there is no web article probably I will have to post images of locations or drawings "as they are" rather than as they are quoted in the media. The media says many things.. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Leknightclub (talk • contribs) 18:03, 4 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Leknightclub: Thank you for writing. Wikipedia:No original research can be frustrating. If you look here you can see there is an abandoned road paralleling Pletcher Road. During the 1950s and 1960s, when trucks were carrying loads of nuclear waste to the Lake Ontario Ordnance Works, this parallel road was built so that passing trucks wouldn't smash head-on and dump their toxic load all over a road 10 miles from Niagara Falls. Unfortunately, I can't find a source to support this. I know it's true though. Magnolia677 (talk) 19:29, 4 May 2020 (UTC)

- @Rdwmpls: Thank you for your efforts to improve Excelsior, Minnesota. I read about your lovely city and looked at it on street view and it must be a wonderful place to live. The link you keep adding [5] is to a non-profit advocacy group working to improve Excelsior's parks (and you have been very effective). Unfortunately, the link does not comply with Wikipedia policies regarding external links, which both User:BilCat and I have pointed out. Today, I added a short section to the article about Excelsior's parks, which has room for expansion or a photo. This may be a good compromise. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 11:54, 7 May 2020 (UTC)

New Brunswick / Northern Territories
[edit]Respectfully disagree with your decision to revert my edits. In my view, MOS:FORLANG does not apply in the case of either jurisdiction as English has as much weight in both as any of the other official language used there. Likewise disagree with the contention that WP:REDUNDANCY applies here as the names in Inuvialuktun and Inuvialuktun differ considerably.
Moreover, as I mentioned in my edit comments the inclusion of multiple names for subnational sovereignties is standard practice on articles for other countries, including those where English is a national/regional language. Some examples include: Western Cape, Central Luzon, Free State and Nunavut.
--Booksworm Talk? 13:31, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Booksworm: Thanks for writing. Every language carries its weight, but when a small minority of the population speaks the language it shouldn't be listed in the first line. This edit goes back and forth. I think there was a recent discussion about it, though I can't remember where it occurred or what the outcome was. I will start an RFC when I get some time. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 14:14, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- With all due respect, this isn't a matter of the number of people who speak the language, but a question of its official status within the jurisdiction in question and, indeed, of following the model used by other articles for similarly multilingual communities elsewhere in the project. Using ᓄᓇᑦᓯᐊᖅ is no less valid in the Northwest Territories than the English. Moreover, the articles for Yellowknife, Fort Simpson, Hay River (to name a few) all include the native names. In my view there is a trend already defined to which we ought to adhere. --Booksworm Talk? 14:47, 9 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Booksworm: Is there a policy or consensus about this someplace? Thanks again. Magnolia677 (talk) 15:08, 9 May 2020 (UTC)

- Just to add to the above, while there isn't a policy, my basis was the WP:PLACE guideline. Per its point (2), The title can be followed in the first line by a list of alternative names in parentheses, e.g.: Gulf of Finland (Estonian: Soome laht; Finnish: Suomenlahti; Russian: Финский залив, Finskiy zaliv; Swedish: Finska viken) [...]". [edit]Hello, Magnolia677 I am Woojin Jeong from South Korea. I am taking a Wikipedia course in University. I am getting afraid that I could edit continuously so now I am only just add some references to article which is already exist. not adding any new sentence on that. And I just add some references few minutes before. Is there any problem with my reference? I hope you can check my references. And let me know! [edit]I got a notice saying this file may be deleted because it is a derivative work:
File:Landing Craft-LCT-726-03-12-1946.jpg
The image is a scan of a photo my family has of my Dad and his crew in the Philippines in 1946. The Leonor Art Studio in Luzon, the Philippines, is clearly identified in the work. I have investigated current Philippine copyright law which states that copyright extends for fifty years past the death of the author. This was a studio no longer in business so I don't know how I can identify the person who shot this photo. Also, I have been unable to determine what copyright law existed at the time of the photograph since the Philippines were being managed by the U.S. in early 1946. Is copyright law retroactive? I thought I'd reach out to you because the person who sent me this notice seems to be Russian and I only know a few sentences. I can't get oriented with the Help Desk. Thanks in advance, Thomas Farley (talk) 21:11, 11 May 2020 (UTC)Thomas
- @Thomas Farley: Thank you for writing. Copyright issues on the Commons (where the photos are stored; separate from Wikipedia) can be very tricky. My best advice is to leave a message at the help desk. The editors there are expert at this and have always answered my questions quickly. It's a fabulous photo by the way. Glad they all got out ok. [edit]Magnolia677 : You removed Tirey L. Ford as notable people on the Monterey, California wiki article. Actually, he did live for a short time in Monterey. I thought it was worth mentioning.--Greg Henderson 22:47, 12 May 2020 (UTC)

- Yes, the source is the book Tirey wrote in his book "Dawn and the Dons; the Romance of Monterey" the following in the Forward of the book on page xi: "A few years ago I lived for a time at the Hotel Del Monte, during which period I became intimately familiar with the Monterey Peninsula."--Greg Henderson 22:14, 14 May 2020 (UTC)

- @Coal town guy: Always nice to hear from you. WP:AFD/GEO has been a busy place and GNIS is being challenged, but I'm not sure all the nominators are doing their homework. Let me share a good one with you. A few days ago Centerville, Alpine County, California popped up for AfD, and after doing a bit of research I expanded the article well into notability. But I didn't add a "keep" vote to the AfD; I wanted to wait a bit and see if anyone actually read the article before voting. It's all good fun. Nice to see you back on here and I hope the warmer weather does good things for your health. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 16:56, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, you wrote "Hog Rock is an unincorporated community" but I see no community at the given coordinates, no appearance on any topo map or archives, and GNIS even calls it a locale. It cites Rennick but Kentucky Place Names doesn't mention it. Hmmm yeah I wonder why articles are being deleted. Best wishes for your health though, stay safe from those hornet nests and snakes! - Millions and Millions of years ago, a group of folks sat down and bought map databases. AND there were lots of them. Some were just scanned hand made maps. Some were sophisticated maps created from surveyors, some were stolen from many other companies etc etc. Well, here is a shocker, since all the databases were different, some folks did not include locations on their maps. Why? Well they had no clue at all about the local places or culture so they just used what they had. Honest. I used to test GPS devices, and coupled with the places I have been, some of those devices dont function well. Why? Because they bought the cheapest data they could and stuck it out there as a database for their product.AND that data is incomplete. Ever been to a non existent place on a GPS? We all have. Hilton Head Island, South Carolina Demographics
[edit]Noticed your revert, I agree. You probably didn't read my message about repetitive sentence structure of the 1st and 4th paragraphs of: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilton_Head_Island,_South_Carolina#Demographics
It states the number of households twice. Wouldn't you rather edit the fourth paragraph to begin with 'Of the area's households...' or some other non-repetitive formation than, first paragraph: 'As of the census of 2010, there were 37,099 people, 16,535 households...'; fourth paragraph: 'There were 16,535 households...'? I'm only pointing this out for you, if your preference is for it to read repetitive, then leave it in Ncsr111 (talk) 19:38, 13 May 2020 (UTC)
Wanted to run something by you and get your opinion: I'm looking at the article for Grand Gulf Military State Park and it has a section on the ghost town. For the Template: Claiborne County, Mississippi "ghost town" section, the link to Grand Gulf takes you to the article about the military park. I'm leaning towards creating a separate article for the ghost town. Would it be reasonable to remove the information about the former community and place it in a new article about the ghost town? Obviously would confirm the information prior to placing it in the new article, or I would just pull information from different resources. If not, what would you recommend? Thanks! Dofftoubab (talk) 21:16, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Dofftoubab: I was actually thinking of doing that when I did this edit. All you'll have to do is remove the redirect from Grand Gulf, Mississippi and expand the article. If you do any cut-and-paste moves be sure to read WP:CWW. Don't forget to add Category:Mississippi populated places on the Mississippi River. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 21:43, 14 May 2020 (UTC)
- Good deal! I'll get to work on a new article. If I don't copy the information, would you suggest just leaving it in the article about the Military Park or removing it? I'll definitely add that category. And do you mind if I use the map you have on Bruinsburg, Mississippi in an infobox for Grand Gulf? Again, thanks for your help! Besides myself, you're the only person I know who's been to Jenkinjones (one of three places in my life where I have said "this is not the first time I've had a gun pointed at me"). I've attached a picture of Hoohoo. Cheers! Magnolia677 (talk) 22:28, 15 May 2020 (UTC)
Help to create new page
[edit]Thanks, Magnolia677, for reverting my changes. I am trying to adhere to the rules, but I'm a newbie, and the procedures are not familiar to me. As you can tell, I am trying to establish an entry for an individual, Joseph Magnani, who does not yet have an English-language Wikipedia page. (one exists in German). I initially wanted only to note that he was a native of the Illinois towns, but read that a "notable person" cannot be linked until that person has a page. So I researched him an created a page. But I did not realized that the page must be final (and not just draft) before the other links can be made. Your note to me said that a page I made appeared to be a test and it was deleted. I am not sure what this means. Was this the page I was attempting to create for Joseph Magnani? I have submitted it for review and can wait for its approval (up to six weeks?) and will then re-do the other edits, if that is how I should proceed. But I just wanted to ask for your help to understand whether my draft page for him still exists or not. Sorry if this is not the proper place to ask. Using the "talk page" is also new to me. Daniel MJD (talk) 18:02, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Daniel MJD: Thank you for writing. I did some searching online for reliable biographical sources for Joseph Magnani and it was pretty thin, but there were some sources. I'd find a few solid sources and write the article around those. Be sure to read WP:BIO. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 21:37, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
@Magnolia677 - Thanks. Yes, I researched the facts that I cited in the brief bio page I drafted and referenced the sources. After reading WP:BIO again, I believe my draft page meets the requirements. I'll await review. Daniel MJD (talk) 23:47, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
Scranton
[edit]Added John Walker back to list of notables after finding reference saying he was "raised" in Scranton. Seems the extended family originated from Scranton. Other sources also place him in Scranton living with his mother and brothers. Not sure about dozens of other notables on the Scranton page. Many of them don't seem to have any connection with Scranton at all. Thoughts? EdJF (talk) 22:21, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- @EdJF: Thoughts about what? Can you be more specific? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:27, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- The dozens of others I mentioned. Perhaps they should be removed. Thoughts? EdJF (talk) 22:29, 16 May 2020 (UTC)
- @EdJF: A far better alternative would be to find sources to support those entries, just as you did. Magnolia677 (talk) 22:34, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Serbian-American edit
[edit]Hello! The US cenzus was very incorrect. Firstly you could express like a Yugoslav, like a nation from a country that doesn't exist 20+ years. There are 300,000 Yugoslavs, that are mostly Serbians, so keep that in mind, that is also written on other wiki sites. Then, I don't know how well you are familiar with the fact that on the cenzus a lot of Bosnians are additional Serbians. And add some Serbians also from Croatia and Montenegro. It is written on many wiki sites that the number is much and significately higher, I don't know what is your problem. In Chicago there are alone 250,000- 350,000 ethnic Serbs(Serbians). You can know that just by the churces, restaurants etc.. Anyway, thanks. Kradja333 (talk) 23:20, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
The Hollow Reed deletion
[edit]I am unsure why you nominated the page I created The Hollow Reed for speedy deletion. Can you help me understand? The page is about a 1970s restaurant that closed in the 1980s. The citations demonstrate The Hollow Reed restaurant's influence on the city of Portland, Maine's restaurant culture decades after the restaurant closed. I have added more quotations to the article from the five citations that demonstrate notability that I had previously included on the article along with one historical citation for the location. Maybe this may help? I appreciate any help for me to understand. BrikDuk (talk) 23:34, 18 May 2020 (UTC)
- @BrikDuk: The restaurant seems fairly unremarkable. The sources cited give it passing mention, or just a paragraph of text. What is it about this restaurant that passes WP:ORG? Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:50, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677:Thank you for explanation. It passes WP:ORG significant coverage with "ongoing media coverage focusing on a product or organization" almost forty years following closing of the restaurant with coverage from multiple, independent, reliable, secondary sources including statewide .BrikDuk (talk) 17:56, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
Levi Ponce
[edit]Hi Magnolia677, thanks again for changing the external link to in-text ref - quite right. And a very well done article on Levi Ponce! Best, TashaB 01:48, 19 May 2020 (UTC)TashaB — Preceding unsigned comment added by Natasha Behrendt (talk • contribs)
Shreya Patel on the Sarnia page. You said not notable. Questions about that ...
[edit]Shreya Patel has been nominated for the Forbes 30 under 30. (https://www.theobserver.ca/news/local-news/northern-grads-advocacy-earns-forbes-30-under-30-nomination).
1) Does that increase her notability?
2) If not, would being named to the list from the more than 1,000 entries make her notable, especially if papers other than the Sarnia Observer ran with the story? Or Forbes itself?
Please advise. Thanks! There can be only one...TheKurgan (talk) 00:13, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- @TheKurgan: Thanks for writing. Typically, the "notable people" section of a city article contains only those with a pre-existing Wikipedia article. I looked online for sources to support her notability, and found some local newspaper articles [9][10][11][12], but I really don't think she would pass WP:BIO if you created an article, but you could try. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 16:34, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
- Oh, I was not planning on writing a whole article for her yet. I will wait until the 30 under 30 comes out later this year. If she's on it, then her films appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival will mean more regarding notability. I think you're right, however, that she WILL be notable but not right yet. Stay safe. There can be only one...TheKurgan (talk) 18:21, 20 May 2020 (UTC)
Scope of Page: Carl Sandburg NHS Writers-in-Residence
[edit]Hi Magnolia677
Thank you for the information in your talk about the Carl Sandburg NHS page. You deleted a one-sentence addition that included names of the recent writers who were part of the Writer-in-Residence program. You mentioned that you felt that this was out of the scope of the page - which I can see that argument. But I am not sure why you reported it as being non-verifiable when there were 1-2 citations per writer.
Thank you for taking the time to provide additional feedback so I can understand.
I am not affiliated with anything, but I do live about 15 minutes from the Carl Sandburg NHS, so I go there often to walk. I am a fan of poetry, and I am passionate about recognizing contemporary poets who are often overlooked in their notability.
Perhaps I should create an article specifically on the Carl Sandburg Writer-In-Residence Program. What do you think of that idea? JeremyAGibbs (talk) 12:01, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
Carl Sandburg was a poet himself, so I do feel that the WIR program is a significant element of the National Historic Site. Most of their community events are connected to local writers.
- @JeremyAGibbs: Thank you for writing. I did a search for information about the program but didn't find a lot. There was lots of information about winners, but little about the program. If you are able to find a few good secondary sources about the program (history, etc.) it may be worth an article (in which a list of notable and non-notable winners would be entirely appropriate). Feel free to ask for help. Sandburg was a poet? I didn't know it. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:03, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
- @JeremyAGibbs: I did a bit more searching and there's probably enough secondary sourced info for an article. I'd be happy to copyedit. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 14:10, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
Thank you very much for your help and your suggestions!! Wikimom1991 (talk) 18:25, 25 May 2020 (UTC)
I don't understand what you are trying to do.
[edit]I included the lifespans of the people on the list of Notable people at North Bay, Ontario. Some of these people are alive, some are dead. Their life span indicates what time these people were notable, and reveals something of the history of North Bay. I have accessed that information from the wikipedia pages on these people.
Are you suggesting that we can only include those dates if we repeat the references from the linked wikipedia pages. Are you suggesting that for every list of people, "Notable people", "People with this Surname" &c,. we can only include any information if we reference it on the secondary page. You removed dates because you say they are not referenced adequately. The list at North Bay assumes that the people have a connection to North Bay, there are no references for this on the North Bay Notable people list. The notable people list mentions their occupation/reason for notability, this is unreferenced. Therefore by your logic, unless each name on that list has a reference on that page for their connection to North Bay, and for their reason of notability, there should be no listing. The Notable People on that that page don't have any references on that page. Should we remove the entire list? I am going to return my edit, reverse your undoing Brunswicknic (talk) 11:02, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Brunswicknic: Thank you for writing. What I am trying to do is maintain one of the cornerstone policies of Wikipedia, which requires that additions to the encyclopedia be sourced. At North Bay, Ontario, you seem to want to undermine that by adding birthdays for all the notable people listed. First, if readers want the birthdays of the people listed there, they will visit the article. More important, you have "sourced" the birthdays by copying them from the target article. I reverted your edit, and told you you cannot source one Wikipedia article with information on another Wikipedia article (per WP:CIRC), but now you insist on edit warring over your unsourced content. Ok, let's try this. With this edit you added that Kevin Frankish was born in 1964. If you look at the article for Kevin Frankish you will see that his birthday is unsourced. This is why I mentioned CIRC in my edit summary; because copying info from one crappy article and placing it into another article creates two crappy articles. I have again reverted your unsourced edit, and left a warning on your talk page. I caution you not to edit war over unsourced and unnecessary content. Thank you. Magnolia677 (talk) 13:46, 28 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: You say that one birtdate is unreferenced yet you revert everything. If you have a problem with the unsourced date of Frankish then why don't we deal with it at that page, I and other readers will not then be mislead as to the date. I have gone to that page and deleted the date. Now, you say "you cannot source one Wikipedia article with information on another Wikipedia article (per WP:CIRC)". OK, the entire list of Notable people is based on those people appearing in wikipedia articles. I repeat, the reason that wikipedia gives for those people appearing in a list of notable people, the reason that the list is given in the North Bay article, the reason that only people with a wkipedia article appear on the list, is because they are sourced from wikipedia articles. By your instructions, by your relevant citing of the policy, therefore, I will remove the list of Notable people from the North Bay list.Brunswicknic (talk) 06:58, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Brunswicknic: Please take a moment to read WP:POINT. Magnolia677 (talk) 10:00, 29 May 2020 (UTC)
- I have read it. I still believe you are wrong to have reverted my edits to the Notable People section, I note you have not corrected the errors in that list yourself, and I believe that nasty would-be-page-owners like yourself and idegon are one of the main reasons many people do not engage constructively with wikipediaBrunswicknic (talk) 03:53, 2 January 2021 (UTC)

About reverting changes about Chromatica album
[edit]Greetings,
I just noticed that my changes in 3 articles was reverted. I just want to mention that I will make some changes about that, soon, since all of the changes are from the same album.
So, is it possible to cite the same source that provided in the album's article?
Also, there is a post on social media about one of producer, Skrillex, that mentioned that he produced one song in the album. Is it good idea to mention that in the article?
Thank you. Be1con (talk) 14:51, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Be1con: You can add the same reliable source to multiple articles (this is different from copying text+source from one article and adding it to another). Social media is typically not a reliable source, but it depends. Help:Referencing for beginners should help. Cheers. Magnolia677 (talk) 15:28, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Magnolia677: Thank you for that. First of all, I am not so sure that the source that I am attaching is okay or not (especially the songs on Spotify and tweet from Axwell (for example)), since I could not find such reliable sources when the album just released few days ago. Any idea about that? Thanks. Be1con (talk) 15:51, 31 May 2020
Please stop reverting.
[edit]You recently reverted lots of edits by ImNotJakub for being "unsourced". This is very counter productive and not helpful, as all were correct, and the source is from ProCyclingStats, even though not directly stated in the section, as this is just the standard way of ding cycling results. Take the time and look at it first. I will have to fix all of these.--Seacactus 13 (talk) 22:24, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- @Seacactus 13: Thank you for writing. I must say you have me a bit confused. Wikipedia:Verifiability says that "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be supported by inline citations". It doesn't say "add a link to a stats site in the external links section". My read of this policy is that a 3,406 byte inclusion of text, such as the one at Joaquim Agostinho, is likely to be challenged when added without a source. What you think? Magnolia677 (talk) 22:41, 31 May 2020 (UTC)
- All cyclists pages are like that. It is odd, but that is how they are, I'm not sure why. The information is all correct though, please see the links I mentioned. I did however put a link to it in the results section, which I'll try to be better at doing.--Seacactus 13 (talk) 18:34, 3 June 2020 (UTC)
