Turlough
Dear User:Lord_Cornwallis, I see you are an extremely experienced editor (388,049 edits). I must be a newby in your eyes. Please forgive my bold intrusion into "your" article Turlough MacShane O'Neill. I saw the recent edit by User:SKIBLY101 and wondered whether he/she was right. So I added a family tree found in the literature. I also changed the citation style. You can reject all this of course. Please, just boldy revert. Otherwise accept and build on it. According to this family tree Shane O'Neill (the proud) was neither his grandfather nor his great-grandfather. Of course the pedigree could be wrong. Further confirmation should surely be sought. With thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 18:13, 24 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi, those are really excellent improvements on this article. Its also very impressive the work you have done on other Irish history articles. Regards, Lord Cornwallis (talk) 17:40, 27 October 2022 (UTC).
- Dear Lord Cornwallis. Thanks for your reply. I am of course very pleased to hear that you seem to agree with the changes I made on the article Turlough MacShane O'Neill. However, there are many things I do not understand. The first is the title or name of the article: "Turlough MacShane O'Neill". Nowhere in the literature have I seen a person called like this. I assume that the biographical subject is Turlough, the famous Sir Felim O'Neill of Kinard's father. In fact I am not so sure of this. Why the "MacShane" in the title? This might be taken as a patronymic, but Turlough's father's name is not Shane. Or do you mean "MacShane O'Neill" as a double-barrel family name? Originally you said Shane was his great grandfather and died in 1567. The Shane O'Neill who died in 1567 was "the proud" who was not one of Turlough's ancestors. You say Turlough was a landowner, but Turlough, Phelim's father never owned land, because the land of Kinard was his father's and Turlough never inherited because he died at the same time as his father. Why should Turlough, Phelim's father be notable? I wonder in fact where this article should not be deleted. With thanks and best regards, Johannes Schade (talk) 08:35, 28 October 2022 (UTC)
- Hi. I haven't my sources to hand at the moment. I'm happy to go along with whatever you think best with the article. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 00:19, 30 October 2022 (UTC)
- Dear Lord Cornwallis. Thanks for your reply. I have gone through the links to the article Turlough MacShane O'Neill. The "What links here" utility maintains there or 90 of them, but most do not point to Turlough MacShane O'Neill but just to Turlough, MacShane or O'Neill. The links to the article are to Turlough O'Neill, a disambiguation page; Felim O'Neill of Kinard where I added the link; Template:Ó Néill, a navigation box; and Gordon O'Neill where I added the link. It looks as if the originally intended biographical subject was "Turlough mac Shane O'Neill", fourth son of Shane O'Neill". Some of Sahne's sons Henry MacShane O'Neill (d. 1622), Conn MacShane O'Neill (d. 1630) are listed on the navbox, which was created in June 2015 by User:Claíomh Solais, now blocked. Not much seems to be known about this fourth son of Shane and I doubt that notability could be established. I feel we should request the deletion of the article.

Henry Talbot (landowner)
Dear Lord Cornwallis. You created the article Henry Talbot (landowner) in September 2015. I have tried to extend it a bit and get into difficulties. Henry Talbot of Templeogue and Mount Talbot seems to have been MP for Newcastle 1640 to 1649. Unless this is a case of two different Henry Talbots mixed up. I also wonder wether the William Talbot (Jacobite) (another of your articles), who died at the siege of Derry really was Henry's son as you maintain. According to Burke (1879), he is a son of a Walter Talbot, one of the Talbots of Castle-Talbot (co. Wexford). Of course Burke might be wrong. This "Lieutenant-Colonel" and "Wicked Will" might have been confused with Sir William Talbot, 3rd Baronet (still another of your articles), who did not die at Derry but was a nephew of Tyrconnell as Walker maintains. Am I destroying your article and mixing things up? With many thanks and best best regards. Johannes Schade (talk) 21:20, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

- Dear Lord Cornwallis. Thank you very much for your kind reply and thank you especially for the trust you seem to place on me. I will try to merit it. Availing myself of your permission I will probably change the citation style to use {{Sfn}}, but of course the focus is on extensions to the content, better support by citations, and the search for additional sources. That does not mean I am taking over now. I hope you will contribute and fix mistakes. Your expert knowledge and experience are direly needed. La Marie du port
Hello there I notice that you renamed the articles (book and film) of La Marie du port to Marie of the Port. Did you seek consensus before making this change? Please note that policy states that the title of articles should be the title most commonly used in English. WP:title In every work I have read in English this film is referred to by its French title La Marie du Port, and therefore this should be the name of the article. As for the Simenon novel the film was based on, it is called Chit of a Girl in its only English translation and therefore this should be the title of the article. Would you mind reverting you changes to the article titles. Also in your edit summaries, please don't describe major changes like these as minor edits. Happy to discuss. Thanks. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 01:42, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hello. I followed WP:USEENGLISH and WP:BOLD, as there are several RS that use the English translation for the film. In addition (for clarification) I didn't rename the article for the novel, I created it. Regards, Lord Cornwallis (talk) 01:54, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks for the reply. I'm sorry I didn't pick up that you created the article for the novel. I understand that you named the aticle in good faith based on your understanding of policy, but if you re-read WP:USEENGLISH you will see that it states: "The title of an article should generally use the version of the name of the subject that is most common in the English language, as you would find it in reliable sources". Every single English language biography and published bibliography of Simenon that I've read refers to this novel as La Marie du port or Chit of a Girl (if they are referring to the English translation). The film is also universally known in English under the French title. The reliable sources therefore point to the French title as the best title for the film and Chit of a girl as the title of the book. Would you please make these changes? Thanks. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 02:12, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hello. Politely disagree, I've added several sources to the film article that use the English title Marie of the Port including two biographies of the director and one of the lead star Gabin. For the novel, I'm less certain. Perhaps strictly speaking it should be Chit of a Girl, although the RS I've looked at tend to use the direct English translation of the French title rather than that. Lord Cornwallis (talk) 02:19, 4 June 2023 (UTC)
- All the links to the film in the article about the film refer to the film as La marie du port. Someone has simply changed the name of the links to a literal translation of the French title. Turk's Child of Paradise: Marcel Carné and the Golden Age of French Cinema, listed as one of the major sources in the article also refers to the film as Marie du Port (p 440). As for the Simenon novel, can you please give some citations to reliable sources that refer to the Simenon novel as "Marie of the Port"? Marnham, Alavoine, Bresler, Young and Forshaw all refer to it as La Marie du port and/or Chit of a Girl. Aemilius Adolphin (talk) 02:31, 4 June 2023 (UTC)

Help me out about "Enter Sir john"
I was reading your article on the 1928 novel “Enter Sir John" because I am trying to find the first instance of a crossdresser killer in fiction. Hitchcock's 1930 movie "Murder!" is the earliest example I was able to find but obviously the book it's based on, "Enter Sir John", was written before the movie came out. However, according to the article, quite a few things have been changed from the novel to the movie. I haven't been able to find a copy of the book anywhere so you are my last hope: was the killer in the novel "Enter Sir John" a crossdresser? Thank you in advance Friendlyhousecat (talk) 14:40, 14 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hi. Sorry I don't have any specific information about the novel or a copy of it. I create a lot of articles about notable novels and this was done quite a while back. Apologies I can't be any more helpful (although the 1920s sounds about right for the first instance, I'd say). Lord Cornwallis (talk) 23:22, 15 July 2023 (UTC)

Bifur 3 – citations needed
I see you've created the article Bifur 3 just now. I presume you are working on expanding it, and adding references. It's better, imho, to add citations at the same time as you add the content, as in its current state this article is not ready for main space, as it is entirely unsourced. (The one citation present is not a valid source for Wikipedia, as it is a WP:SPS.) Please add citations to reliable sources as soon as possible. Alternatively, feel free to move the page to draftspace (or your sandbox, or a user subpage) where you can work on it to your heart's content, without anyone bothering you about it. Thanks for your contributions to build the encyclopedia! Mathglot (talk) 20:06, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Archiving
I was WP:BOLD in archiving your talk page for you. I put all your pre-2019 threads in User talk:Lord Cornwallis/Archive 1, then I removed all botspam from 2019. No editor was able to start a thread to engage in conversation with you. I strongly suggest that if you want to keep botspam-type threads, to set up auto-archiving so your user talk page does not again hit a size limit and prevent other editors from talking to you. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 16:56, 15 March 2019 (UTC)
- Erik, am considering doing the same thing (see #Archiving your Talk page, somewhere like section #528). I usually hesitate to do that due to WP:OWNTALK, but at some point, such a long page begins to be problematic, and ignoring requests becomes uncollaborative. I'm willing to manually archive their page on request, or to set up automatic archiving, and I've urged them to do one or the other. Mathglot (talk) 20:17, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
Archiving your Talk page
Your talk page is super-long; with over 500 sections, it's hard to load and navigate. You can set up automatic archiving if you want, or you can archive manually (like I do). You can read about setting up automatic archiving at Help:Archiving (plain and simple), or I'm happy to do it for you, if you wish. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 20:11, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and added auto-archiving for you. Feel free to adjust the config params (currently, max=150k, 30 days, minthreads=12) to your preference. This should become active automatically, when the archive bot detects the config. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 21:21, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
- Congrats: the bot just found your config and did it's thing; you're now the proud owner of five archive files, and it's all searchable, from the box at the top. Happy editing! Mathglot (talk) 05:17, 21 September 2023 (UTC)

Hello, Lord Cornwallis,
Category redirects are created differently than article redirects. Please check out the code/template used on this page so if you need to create another category redirect in the future, you'll know just how it's done. Thanks! Liz Read! Talk! 22:50, 24 October 2023 (UTC)
Speedy deletion nomination of Elda Tattoli
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Elda Tattoli requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. Random diacritics
Hello, please stop distort Czech names and use proper diacritics. It's better to set up pages more slowly and create them more carefully than to have someone come after you to check everything. For example in The Eleventh Commandment (1925 film), the Czech name is Jedenácté přikázání, not Jedenácté prikázání. You cite ČSFD as a source so you can see how the names of the actors and movies are written properly. Thank you! FromCzech (talk) 07:26, 20 December 2023 (UTC)

Improving Drafts
Hi,
Do you still look over and edit various TV and film alumni? There are a few in draftspace:
- Draft:Ian Liston
- Draft:David Ashford (actor)
- Draft:Kenneth Thornett
- Draft:Arthur Newall
- Draft:Howard Attfield
- Draft:Mary Healey
- Draft:Gillian Brown (actress)
- Draft:Sara Griffiths
The first two have references to obituaries but despite this, have not been accepted into mainspace. Regardless of many souces, the penultimate one doesn't want to be approved. The last one doesn't appear to be accepted due to being written like an advertisement rather than an encyclopedia article. Are you able to cast an eye over any of these and improve on them to get them up as proper articles? Cheers. Silurian25 (talk) 17:53, 10 February 2024 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Rough Ridin' Red
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Rough Ridin' Red, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which pages can be deleted at any time, without discussion. If the page meets any of these strictly defined criteria, then it may soon be deleted by an administrator. The reasons it has been tagged are:
- It is a very short article providing little or no context to the reader. (See section A1 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
- It appears to be about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), individual animal, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. (See section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion.) Such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.
The article Attracta (film) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. DonaldD23 talk to me 23:31, 21 March 2024 (UTC)

- Hello, In your recent edit summary, you note: "Not sure why this was nominated or redirected." To clarify: I had redirected the page to the director as an ATD, because notability was challenged (As for why it was Proded, I guess Donaldd23's concern was notability, as the template indicated). I generally do that to avoid deletion of pages about films with sources/notable cast/director etc. But, I too, would prefer a standalone page for this film. So I agree with your revert of my Redirect, actually. Thanks for creating the page. If you have time to add a plot, that might help show why Redirecting is an even less desirable action. Thanks. -My, oh my! (Mushy Yank) 11:09, 5 April 2024 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Category:Cultural depictions of Charles X of France indicating that it is currently empty, and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.
