Re:She Wolf
Why thank you! Thank you very much! It feels real good when someone appreciates your work. I already thanked you for your edits and I thank you for your help again here too :)
Hopefully someone takes the review soon and it becomes a GA class article ;)
I've also readied the singles from the album for Ga class too. Did It Again (Shakira song) is already a GAN, and I'll nominate She Wolf (Shakira song) and Gypsy (Shakira song) as soon as one of these nominations is done.
The only article left to work on is The Sun Comes Out World Tour which, if it and all the aforementioned articles becomes GA class, will make She Wolf a GA topic. I've never done a tour article before so I think this one is going to be the toughest. The first Shakira article I got to GA was Loca.
Thanks for appreciating again!

Hey

What do you think of this?
Here. Very interesting. I remember reading somewhere else that radio stations had been informed that Leona was releasing another unnamed single from the album too. — AARON • TALK 15:27, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- A few months ago back on Heart FM, they played an interview with Leona and she said there was probably not be another single from the album. Maybe RCA want to recoop some money from the project and try a stateside launch along with the Xmas album. That takes Lewis to the end of her contract (she owes Sony 1 more album plus 1 re-release or greatest hits). — Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 19:51, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- So her Christmas album is her final album under her Sony contract? What about RCA and Syco? I heard that she was planning a 2014 album too. — AARON • TALK 21:45, 16 July 2013 (UTC)
- It was my understanding that she owes Syco/RCA 5 albums. Spirit = one, Echo = two, Glassheart = three, Xmas = 4. So it depends how they view the Hurt EP and any forthcoming re-release of Glassheart as the link you sent me is not the only one claiming a potential re-release of Glassheart stateside. Also she was originally working on her fourth album for release this year but Cowell has postponed that to get the Xmas album done. I can't help but feel that this is one way of helping her to finish her contract quicker. Tbh an Xmas album doesn't otherwise make much sense :/ — Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 13:42, 17 July 2013 (UTC)
- The Xmas album will be her fourth though. Yeah it is a bit out of the blue, but if she does the Motown feel right, it could be huge. It needs to be upbeat though. No sad songs. I just want her to release "Glassheart" and get some US exposure on the charts. — AARON • TALK 23:55, 17 July 2013 (UTC)

DYK for Hotel Cabana
On 31 July 2013, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Hotel Cabana, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that British record producer Naughty Boy described his debut album, Hotel Cabana, as having a concept that made it "more like a film in some respects"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Hotel Cabana. You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and it will be added to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

Right. Well. First of all, this article is fairly nearly there, but it has some issues.
First, though, the good. This article handles the reviews and analysis sections a lot better than most pop song articles, and they flow really well. Sources are a little sparse, but - correct me if I'm wrong - I believe the singer is still primarily known in the UK, so gets less coverage abroad? So we can let that pass.
However, there are a few issues with the opening few sections (the Lead through Production and composition). In general, this could use a copyedit, and... well, honestly, that's pretty much it, but I can be a bit more specific.
Lead:
- "The subject matter of the lyrics focus on how Lewis informers her lover that enough time has passed since their relationship ended for her to have developed as a person." - ignoring the glaring typo (should be informs), that's awkward phrasing, and has a lot of superfluous words, as well as a lack of clarity. I think what's meant is something like "The lyrics consist of Lewis informing her ex-lover that enough time has passed since their relationship for her to have moved on and to have developed as a person."
- "To promote "Lovebird", Lewis performed the song on Daybreak and Loose Women in the United Kingdom, in addition to La Voz in Spain." - Perhaps it's me not owning a television, but I have no idea what Daybreak, Loose Women, or La Voz are, and I'm certain people not from Britain won't either. Add a few descriptive words for each programme.
- You don't need to own a TV to know what they are. I've added a description for each, but to be honest, if you don't know what they are, then click on them, that's the whole point of wiki-linking. — AARON • TALK 19:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- I know, but it's better if it's not necessary, if it's likely a significant proportion of the audience won't know what they are. After all, pop music is international, and it's not that unlikely a lot of Americans will be reading this as well. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:45, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Like I said, that's the reason why they are linked. But I've given a description of what they are anyway. So this point is done. — AARON • TALK 16:33, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

- Structure: The structure is kind of a mess. By the second paragraph, very fewconsecutive sentences have at all similar themes. The lead needs reconstructed into a basic narrative.
- It is in a basic narrative. This is how all (well-written) music articles are written. It's certainly is for the 68 GA's of mine that have passed. — AARON • TALK 19:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- I apologise: let me clarify. The structure of the lead is a bit of a mess. I think a little reorganising to put related ideas together will help. It's not a huge mess, but it feels a little disjointed, and I'm not quite sure the paragraph divisions are in the right places. This is, however, one of the more difficult things to get "perfect" in an article. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:33, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think it's personal preference to be honest. Not all leads are the same, and this one is cohesive. — AARON • TALK 16:33, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
- Looking at it again, I've made a small rearrangement, and added a linking word. Adam Cuerden (talk) 17:51, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Background
The end of the first paragraph should read: "...had worked on a track with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris, and that Fraser T Smith would be producing for the album."Done.
Production
- "...produced by Josh Abrahams, Oligee and Coleman, under his production name Ammo" - who has the production name Ammo?
- Coleman... — AARON • TALK 19:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- Think we can fix that by putting parentheses around "under his production name, Ammo". I have done so. Also added an Oxford comma to help keep Coleman distinct from Oligee. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:33, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- Coleman... — AARON • TALK 19:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
Live performances
- "Lewis leaves wearing an ivory sleeved dress and long skirt while she is trapped in the cage along with "jewelled eye decorations" in the video" - that makes no sense. She leaves the cage while being trapped in it?
- She same dress that she wore while trapped in the cage. I have reworded. — AARON • TALK 19:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
- I've rearranged it a little bit more. I think it's better to mention her costume in the setup, not at the end. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:42, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

- Thanks, though I disagree with some points. — AARON • TALK 19:50, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
One additional point: Besides the typo of "where", what, exactly, is wrong with this reverted edit? http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Lovebird_%28song%29&diff=566326524&oldid=566324840 I was trying to simplify the explanation by making it apply more specifically to this video. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:42, 30 July 2013 (UTC)
- I think Lil-Unique reverted it because he might have felt that the addition of "the occasionally used" but might have been unnecessary and a bit pointless to include. — AARON • TALK 16:33, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
Looked everything over, and made a minor edit to deal with the last thing holding me back from full support. I am now happy to ✓ Pass. Adam Cuerden (talk) 17:51, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Just to note
The bot's gone a bit crazy, and decided to fail Lovebird despite me following the instructions to promote it. I've opened a message on WT:GAC. No clue what's happening - maybe all the miscellaneous old GA messages screwed the bot up. Adam Cuerden (talk) 18:07, 31 July 2013 (UTC)
WikiCup 2013 July newsletter
We're halfway through this year's penultimate round, and the competition is moving along well. Pool A's Sasata (submissions) currently leads overall, while Pool B's Sturmvogel_66 (submissions) is second. Both leaders are WikiCup veterans, and both have already scored over 600 points this month. If the round were to end today, Miyagawa (submissions), with 274 points, would be the lowest-scoring participant to make it through. This indicates that participants will need a score comparable to last year's (573, the highest ever) to qualify for the final. The high scores this year are a testament both to the quality of participants and to the increased focus on significant content (eligible for bonus points) in this year's competition. So far this round, both Sasata and Cwmhiraeth (submissions) have made up over half of their score through bonus points, with, for example, high importance FA koala earning Sasata a total of 440 points (from a multiplier of 4.4) and high-importance GA sea earning Cwmhiraeth a total of 216 points (from a multiplier of 7.2). Other articles on important topics submitted this round include a featured article on the Norman conquest of England by Ealdgyth (submissions), and good articles on Nobel laureate in literature Henryk Sienkiewicz, Nobel laureate in physics Hans Bethe, and the noted Japanese aircraft carrier Hiryū. These articles are by Piotrus (submissions), Hawkeye7 (submissions) and Sturmvogel_66 respectively.
Other than that, there is not much to report! If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. Good luck! [2] But according to you on "Hummingbird Heartbeat", label confirmation is not needed? — Status (talk · contribs) 23:01, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- HH received third party coverage confirming its single release. The label sent it to radio in Australia. STM was put on iTunes as part of the clearasil production promotion campaign that the song was used in. Much like "Heat" was released by Beyoncé in support of her fragrance of the same name. Also when releasing "Demonstrate" JoJo said it was her first single since "Disaster" and that she'd taken the album in a dofferent direction. I've always said in the numerous disxussions that there has been about songs and when they become singles, that every song/single has to be looked at individually and that a song released to retailers alone is NOT a single. Retailers dont decide what a single is, labels do. To my knowledge there was no promotion of the somg as a single other than a release and partial visual for the advertising campaign. Much the same as the iTunes coutdown singles, their release to iTunes does not automatically make them a single. — Lil_℧niquℇ №1 [talk] 23:10, 4 August 2013 (UTC)
- That's not what I was referring to. I was just commenting on the matter of "needing label confirmation", when that's not the case. I agree that it's promo single, per sources that state so (I don't think any are included in the article, but I have seen the song be referred to as a "buzz single"). — Status (talk · contribs) 02:33, 9 August 2013 (UTC)

Hello, I stumbled across your userpage image when it was tagged by my bot as it did not have a proper license tag. On the image page you state that you only grant license to use it on your own pages and I am concerned that the image might not meet policy per this where it states that all user created images must be licensed under a free license. Because of this I'd like to ask if you would consider re-licensing the image under a free license as to meet the policy and to allow others to use the image should they wish. WikiCup 2013 August newsletter
This year's final is upon us. Our final eight, in order of last round's score, are:
- Hawkeye7 (submissions), a WikiCup newcomer who has contributed on topics of military history and physics, including a number of high-importance topics. Good articles have made up the bulk of his points, but he has also scored a great deal of bonus points. He has the second highest score overall so far, with more than 3000 points accumulated.
- Casliber (submissions), another WikiCup veteran who reached the finals in 2012, 2011 and 2010. He writes on a variety of topics including botany, mycology and astronomy, and has claimed the highest or joint highest number of featured articles every round so far this year. He has the third highest score overall, with just under 3000 points accumulated.
- Cwmhiraeth (submissions), 2012 WikiCup champion, who writes mostly on marine biology. She has also contributed to high-importance topics, seeing huge numbers of bonus points for high-importance featured and good articles. Previous rounds have seen her scoring the most bonus points, with scoring spread across did you knows, good articles and featured articles.
- Sasata (submissions), a WikiCup veteran who finished in second place in 2012, and competed as early as 2009. He writes articles on biology, especially mycology, and has scored highly for a number of collaborations at featured article candidates.
- Sturmvogel_66 (submissions), the winner of the 2010 competition. His contributions mostly concern Naval history, and he has scored a very large number of points for good articles and good article reviews in every round. He is the highest scorer overall this year, with over 3500 points in total.
- Ealdgyth (submissions), who is competing in the WikiCup for the second time, though this will be her first time in the final. A regular at FAC, she is mostly interested in British medieval history, and has scored very highly for some top-importance featured articles on the topic.
- Miyagawa (submissions), a finalist in 2012 and 2011. He writes on a broad variety of topics, with many of this year's points coming from good articles about Star Trek. Good articles make up the bulk of his points, and he had the most good articles back in round 2; he was also the highest scorer for DYK in rounds 1 and 2.
- Adam Cuerden (submissions) has previously been involved with the WikiCup, but hasn't participated for a number of years. He scores mostly from restoration work leading to featured picture credits, but has also done some article writing and reviewing.
We say goodbye to eight great participants who did not qualify for the final: Piotrus (submissions), Figureskatingfan (submissions), ThaddeusB (submissions), Dana boomer (submissions), Status (submissions), Ed! (submissions), 12george1 (submissions), Calvin999 (submissions). Having made it to this stage is still an excellent achievement, and you can leave with your heads held high. We hope to see you all again next year. Signups are now open for the 2014 WikiCup, which will begin on 1 January. All Wikipedians, whatever their interest or level of experience, are warmly invited to participate in next year's competition.
This last month has seen some incredible contributions; for instance, Cwmhiraeth's Starfish and Ealdgyth's Battle of Hastings—two highly important, highly viewed pages—made it to featured article status. It would be all too easy to focus solely on these stunning achievements at the expense of those participants working in lower-scoring areas, when in fact all WikiCup participants are doing excellent work. A mention of everything done is impossible, but here are a few: Last round saw the completion of several good topics (on the 1958, 1959 and 1962 Atlantic hurricane seasons) to which 12george1 had contributed. Calvin999 saw "S&M" (song), on which he has been working for several years, through to featured article status on its tenth try. Figureskatingfan continued towards her goal of a broad featured/good topic on Maya Angelou, with two featured and four good articles. ThaddeusB contributed significantly to over 20 articles which appeared on the main page's "in the news" section. Adam Cuerden continued to restore a large number of historical images, resulting in over a dozen FP credits this round alone. The WikiCup is not just about top-importance featured articles, and the work of all of these users is worthy of commendation.
Finally, the usual notices: If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to reduce the review backlogs! I hate that the masses have never heard "Glassheart" and most likely never will. There's no chance of it now. She's finished the Christmas album. It needs to be a number one hit. It would smash US Holiday charts too, because as far as I know, no one is major is doing a Christmas album. — ₳aron 21:16, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Pink's The Truth About Love - pop punk earworm?
Hello. We all know Pink's album The Truth About Love is a pop album. But the term 'pop punk' in the infobox came from The Guardian says 'convert raw emotion into pop-punk earworms', it doesn't make sense. Earworm is a phrase include 'musical imagery repetition', 'involuntary musical imagery' and 'stuck song syndrome'.
Pop punk seems like an influences, not really a music genre. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.171.178.61 (talk) 04:56, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
whats wrong with the compromise
i don't know why you all dodge this question. and it starting to show that andy mabett is using the same "i ask what i want to ask" tactic in other music related templates...so i'm asking, why would we need an artist parameter if already proven not to be necessary for data granularity? He's proving to want additional parameters in other music templates. And i don't want these questions dodged and Andy assume consensus.Lucia Black (talk) 17:22, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

Christina Aguilera 'Hurt' - soft rock?
Hi, sorry for interrupt, Christina Aguilera's Hurt is a pop ballad, but suddenly added soft rock. WikiCup 2013 September newsletter
In 30 days, we will know the identity of our 2013 WikiCup champion. Cwmhiraeth (submissions) currently leads; if that lead is held, she will become the first person to have won the WikiCup twice. Sasata (submissions), Hawkeye7 (submissions)—who has never participated in the competition before—and Casliber (submissions) follow. The majority of points in this round have come from a mix of good articles and bonus points. This final round is seeing contributions to a number of highly important topics; recent submissions include Phoenix (constellation) (FA by Casliber), Ernest Lawrence (GA by Hawkeye7), Pinniped, and red fox (both GAs by Sasata).
The did you know (DYK) eligibility criteria have recently changed, meaning that newly passed good articles are accepted as "new" for did you know purposes. However, in the interests of not changing the WikiCup rules mid-competition, please note that only articles eligible for DYK under the old system (that is, newly created articles or 5x expansions) will be eligible for points in this year's WikiCup. We do, however, have time to discuss how this new system will work for next year's competition; a discussion will be opened in due course. On that note, thoughts are welcome on changes you'd like to see for next year. What worked? What didn't work? What would you like to see more of? What would you like to see less of? All Wikipedians, new or old, are also warmly invited to sign up for the 2014 WikiCup.
Good luck! Hotel Cabana
Hi, I've noticed you undo many of my edits to the Hotel Cabana page. I have no problem with this because you've justified them. I'm just wondering two things:
- Is my last edit a good enough verification of the release date or does it require an official statement from Naughty Boy?
- If the "No One's Here To Sleep" artwork is irrelevant in the article then how come a picture of a venue isn't?
Would appreciate both of these being explained to me. Not that I object to your edits at all, after all you've turned it from start-class into B-class! Regards, DJUnBalanced (talk) 16:55, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

Congratulations to everyone who has been successful in this year's WikiCup, whether you made it to the final rounds or not, and a particular congratulations to the newcomers to the WikiCup who have achieved this year. Thanks to all who have taken part and helped out with the competition. While it has been an excellent year, errors have opened up the judges' eyes to the need for a third judge, and it is with pleasure that we announce that experienced WikiCup participant Miyagawa will be acting as a judge from now on. We hope you will all join us in welcoming him to the team.
Next year's competition begins on 1 January. You are invited to sign up to participate; it is open to all Wikipedians, new and old. Brainstorming and discussion remains open for how next year's competition will work, and straw polls will be opened by the judges soon. Those interested in friendly competition may also like to keep an eye on the stub contest, being organised by Casliber. The WikiCup judges will be back in touch over the coming months, and we hope to see you all in the 2014 competition. Leona's Art on Ice Tour
Do you think an article should be made? It had twelve dates and went to Switzerland, Finland and Stockholm. The set list was similar to the Glassheart Tour. — ₳aron 16:59, 30 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi All,
Thanks for all your support over the last five years. Together we've worked on some amazing articles and achieved some amazing things. User:GTH25
I've noticed this user keeps insisting that "Michael" was a studio album even though consensus determined that it was a compilation album. I could be wrong, but it seems like the user is trying to WP:OWN articles or perhaps WP:WIN. Do you have any comments? The user also said "We could have a consensus that the moon landing was fake but that doesn't mean it's right. Michael is a studio album of new music." Can you help explain how new music ≠ studio album on the Talk page for Xscape and or on the user's talk page? XXSNUGGUMSXX (talk) 07:02, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Song by Year
This is copied from an very old comment on talk page. "A song is a piece of music that anybody can sing. A single is a format which nobody can sing! The two are not interchangeable. Song by date and single by date are two different concepts. The song by year relates to the date first published, made available, so song by year will only appear once, whereas a song can be issued as a single many times. Originally one was a sub-cat other the other which is patently absurd. Why should a song be omitted from the song by year category because it was also released as a single?" Most editors now agree with this. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 13:38, 2 April 2014 (UTC)
Bridges
Re this edit, I understand the removal of 2014 songs, but why the label cats? Adabow (talk) 00:27, 3 April 2014 (UTC)
- @@Adabow: artists are signed to one label and then affiliated labels release the song elsewhere. Capitol and polydor recurds have nothing do with each other or with artists signed to Island Records. Considering neither capitol nor polydor are mentioned in the inboxes I removed the categories. For example Mariah Carey is signed to Island Records in the US, in the UK Mercury releases her stuff. However, ww only use the category for Island records as that is the one she is signed to. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 01:45, 3 April 2014 (UTC)

Flatlist consensus
You mentioned in an edit summary that there's a consensus regarding the usage of flatlists. Could you point me to it? I can only find a short discussion here, which to me doesn't seem to be to the extent that a consensus would be.
The album infobox makes it clear that commas are to be used to delimit genres, and makes no mention of interpuncts as a flatlist uses. I can't find anything on WP:ACCESS that goes against this (only that the template is available), nor on WP:Manual of Style/Lists. Thanks!

Enrique
You deleted the Mexican edition tracking. Enrique sells the most in Mexico it's like the biggest market for him. The Mexican track-listing is a special one and with a DVD included. But you can still see it as a indiscriminate list. ==
(cur | prev) 23:10, 11 April 2014 Lil-unique1 (talk | contribs) . . (32,270 bytes) (-4,951) . . (fixes. we do not need to list every single track listing ever published (particularly for smaller markets), not an indiscriminate list, also cleaning up, tagging and templating) (undo | thank) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Enriquelin7 (talk • contribs)
- Enriquelin7 do you have proof that Enrique Sells the most in Mexica compared to any other country. We should only include the most widespread tracklisting, not single market ones that are for relatively small music markets. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 21:33, 12 April 2014 (UTC)
Do you see the Certifications session of Sex and Love? Besides, South America is another big market and lately its track-list reveals and it's the same as the Mexico one, both physical and digital. Digital link here: https://itunes.apple.com/cl/album/sex-and-love-deluxe-edition/id833580178. physical link search yourself.
So technically based on the Certifications session, Mexico and South America is the largest selling market for Enrique, especially for Sex And Love. The track-list for Mexico and South America is the same with 21 tracks, but difference is Mexico has a bonus DVD, which you just simply deleted as you thought it for and single minor market without investigation.
If you agrees above facts pls kindly re-edit/re-do the track-list
- I disagree based on the facts above. Its not a case of me deleting the Mexican edition of the album because of it being a single market. United States, Japan, UK and Germany are the four biggest music markets by sales revenue. The certificates given in for Sex and Love are based on shipments and are therefore insignificant. Shipments are the number of copies that a label has physically produced and sent to retailers in that particular region. As a compromise, if you insist on adding the information, the first 11 songs on the album are the same as the US track listing. Add the remaining tracks as a collapsed track listing of bonus tracks as done with the other bonus tracks. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 16:25, 13 April 2014 (UTC)
"Different from..." vs "Different to..."
Hi. Just to let you know I have reverted your reversion of my original edit to 3 Words (song). In accordance with WP:COMMONALITY our aim is to use language that is commonly used by all our readers. The phrasing "different from" is used and understood world-wide, whilst "different to" has more local usage. Thanks. RomanSpa (talk) 10:41, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
- RomanSpa, definitely did not know that there was an issue with different from and different to. Also, I didnt see it as commonality issue but I guess it doesn't change the article that much. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 11:01, 15 April 2014 (UTC)

Mariah singles
Get ready to see people changing Mariah's singles to promo singles or songs now that JD has said they weren't singles (even though they obviously are). — Status (talk · contribs) 17:46, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
- Status its a direct contradiction of what Carey says in her new Billboard interviews where she acknowledges her failed singles. that famous proverb if it walks like a duck... applies here. It just reinforces the need to move away from direct sources like labels and artists because theyre a massive contradiction. These songs are always classified as singles even if they're not included on the new album. Rumours have it that the album is called My Heart or The Inner Voice. I dont think its gonna reach 100k first week tbh.

Hi Lil, I'm sorry I was away for a few days (real life can be a drain on my wikitime!), but thank you for the heads-up on that discussion, and thank you again for the work you do in improving accessibility on the wiki. I've outlined how I feel about the issues and made a couple of suggestions that might be able to attract a broader consensus, hopefully without diluting the desired outcomes too much. See what you think. Cheers --RexxS (talk) 18:18, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Can you figure it out the song's genre, check 'Composition' and 'Critical reception' section, except Billboard. 183.171.178.27 (talk) 14:23, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- Dance-pop is the correct genre. The sources say "a dance song with influences of hip-hop". Well dance music is not actually a genre, its a subset of genres encompassing everything from dance-pop to house music and electronica. Dance-pop is the closest relation. Hip-hop is not classified as a genre for this song because its only a subtle influence. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 16:10, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
UK releases
Hey, just wondering if you could clear something up for me. The OCC lists the new releases of the week, but the BBC Radio 1 playlist is often cited for radio impact dates in the UK. These two lists are very different (with the OCC lagging behind BBCR1). Which one do we go by? In my opinion it seems silly to take one station playing a song as a radio impact, but I might be missing something... Adabow (talk) 03:18, 17 May 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, as far as I'm aware - the OCC's list comes from the labels. They inform the OCC of the impact date forpa single - the date at which the song is promoted to as its date to impact charts. The promotion and impact date can include the digital download which often comes after the radio impact date. The thing with the BBC is when they update the playlist, they choose to add songs from a long list. Not all songs released that week would be playlisted by the BBC - though capital FM (another national broadcaster) offered another alternative playlist. The occ's list of release dates is a combination of digital downloads, radio add dates and impact dates. Occasionally, where an album has already been released - the label uses a impact date instead of a sepearate digital download listing (the album track download is promoted by radio add dates and live performances). → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 09:32, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- I'm particularly looking at "Tennis Court" by Lorde; its release was announced a month ago as 12 May, which is consistent with the OCC page. However, Radio 1 has been playing it for weeks. There is no physical or digital release (as far as I can find) in the UK in the past week, so this must be the radio impact date, surely. End of Time (song)#Release history is another example, with BBC1 listing the song about a month before the OCC. I am completely confused as to why we (and alarmed that we do) take the playlist of a single radio station or network to mean a radio impact date, and I've seen this with several Wikipedia articles. Adabow (talk) 09:50, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker). I have nothing to add regarding digital release, but I can recap from way back in the pre-digital age. Record Labels would often send "promo, not for resale" copies to radio stations to get radio plays before the actual release. The reason for this was to build up market response so the record charted in the week of release, thereby going further up the charts and getting more radio plays and therefore more sales. A pure marketing ploy and no relation to issue date. Although it was not unknown for record companies to send to store too late when all the radio plays are forgotten. The different dates noted above seem to be a variant of this, but I couldn't confirm. Cheers. --Richhoncho (talk) 10:30, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- The UK works differently from the US because there is no Official Airplay chart. Therefore airplay NEVER counts towards chart positions. Radio airtime for songs is 100% dependent on whether a radio station chooses to play list the song. Its highly unlikely that the song would get played unless any station playlists the song. Now I'm going to throw a curve ball into the discussion ... "Take Care" by Drake & Rihanna was playlisted by BBC Radio 1 upon release of Drake's album. The station was playing the song for 3 weeks solid, pushing the album track download on iTunes and turning it into a UK top-ten hit. The label did not officially send the single out for airplay. This is a common thing in the UK that often the label gives permission for a handful of songs to be played and radio stations ultimately end up influencing what becomes a single. Back to the Lordes situation.... being serviced to radio or playlisted in the UK does NOT make a song a single in this market UNLESS there is confirmation from a reliable source that the song is being promoted as a single. Therefore I would always go with the digital download date as the official single release date. As for its actual release, its June 7 according to the EP listing on iTunes here so I would roll with that. The May 12 listing is the single track download, which is listed on Amazon.co.uk (though I cannot prove this as the page does not explicitly state this but that was my observation). See an article such as Forever and a Day (Kelly Rowland song) as a good example of how to handle radio releases for the UK. i would add that in no circumstances should being added to any UK radio station ever be considered "releasing a song as a single" unless it is accompanied by some kind of confirmation from the label, artist or critics review. If in doubt, a good website to use is something like Digital Spy - for example in its review for "I Will Never Let You Down" it explicitly says in the subtitle "Released May 11, 2014", as seen here → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 16:07, 18 May 2014 (UTC)
- (another talk page stalker here, apologies for butting in!) Thanks for this clarification; I figured that one of my recent edits instigated this conversation; I had added dates to release history sections of some song articles, but wasn't quite sure how to handle it myself and ended up filling in the "Format" fields with a replacement "n/a" template (with the exception of "End of Time", which I had forgotten to go back to). From what I've pieced together the OCC list is, as previously mentioned, indeed a combination of airplay, digital and physical single release dates (I've seen some of the Red Hot Chili Peppers' vinyl-only singles included in the list, for example). Generally if I can find no evidence of a physical or digital release having occurred on the date listed by the OCC I conclude that it's a radio impact date (some UK promotional CD singles have labels at the back which mention impact dates, and—though this may border on original research—from the few examples I've gathered they're generally consistent with OCC release dates), though I've currently been refraining from adding that to articles (just want to get some clarification beforehand). If we were to use the OCC lists as sources for impact dates, what would we add as format? Unlike the US, I don't believe the UK has specific radio formats (CHR, urban, rhythmic, etc.). Thanks! - best example of this I can find is Lovebird (song), where the whole impact day thing is extremely visible. In the UK there's not really different radio format. The stations have rock programmes, dance programmes etc as opposed to separate radio formats. The possible exception is urban radio (hip-hop/r&b) where there is actually an urban radio station. → Lil-℧niquԐ 1 - { Talk } - 18:12, 18 May 2014 (UTC)

I suggest letting the dead horse be beaten without getting drawn into it again; there's clearly nothing that'll be achieved even if it is explained in 50 different ways. I tried implementing the MOS policy above to Artpop, however, it was reverted because there was nothing at the MOS "stating we can't mention how something has been stylized, actually there's a line saying 'then the article title may follow the artist's choice'." What are your views on this? livelikemusic (TALK!) 00:29, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- livelikemusic I think MOS:MUSICCAPS is pretty clear, it says
The first letter in the first and last words in English-language titles of works and releases is capitalized
. Stylisation is not encylopedic - its not always clear if its the style of font or the specific style the designer has chosen i.e. to exclude capital letters. Whether something is written in all capitals is WP:FANCRUFT unless it has received coverage i.e. someone commented on it. That's IMO. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 11:17, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Lil-unique1: Thanks for your explanation and response; if a user/users feel it so important and necessary to include the stylization—which I've never understood—then so be it. However, like you, I do believe the MOS states otherwise, and do believe is qualifies as fan-cruft. livelikemusic (TALK!) 16:33, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

Tokio Hot 100 deletion
Hi I was reading what you had concluded as grounds for deletion. But I did find a few links that show that billboard sort of used this as Billboard Japan before they added that chart. In the 90s the Tokio hot 100 was added to their magazine weekly. While it is difficult to find citations and even notability as of late. I think it is still important to keep for historical purposes or as a chart for older music. Kanyfug (talk) 09:52, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- Tokio Hot 100 is a WP:SINGLEVENDOR chart based on a limited scope. So even if it was used/published by Billboard Japan, as it is regional/based based on only J-Wave stations. I have removed it from song articles because it is not an accurate reflection of a song's performance in Japan. If you oppose the deletion it can be discussed as the deletion discussion Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tokio Hot 100 but I am clear, that per WP:SINGLEVENDOR it should not be included on a song article page, regardless of whether or not the article gets deleted. ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 10:01, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

Drag Race / MOS / Table stuff
Might want to look at that person's contribs, they've been doing that across all DR pages. And I don't have the expertise to fix tables. Daundelin❁ 19:40, 1 January 2022 (UTC)
Cry About It Later (Katy Perry song)
You are claiming "Cry About It Later" is a single etc. Can you send a source confirming it being a single. Otherwise don't say it is. Thank you! Smile is a visual album, every track got a music video. Are they all singles?-No. Remix however doesn't make it a single. It got a cover and lyric video which but no radio promotion. Therefore it is a promotional single. End of the story. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Danielmusiclover (talk • contribs) 17:13, 19 February 2022 (UTC)
- Technically Rolling Stone called it a single, but since both The Music Network and TopHit are unreliable sources to back-up the radio release, I'm not sure if we can still call this song a single. Even the fact that it got a remix doesn't make it a full single, because then we'd have to change "Ressilient" status as well. infsai (talkie? UwU) 22:13, 24 February 2022 (UTC)
- I'm not sure I care enough either way Infsai ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 15:00, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- If you don't care then why you even bother changing the song's status? Make up your mind. infsai (talkie? UwU) 16:08, 25 February 2022 (UTC)
- Infsai, it does say at Template:Infobox album, WP:SINGLE and WP:ALBUM that each case, where ambiguous should be discussed on its own merits. The fact that an independent source (RS) called it a single, and it got a music video for me is good enough. Music video release isn't necessarily a single release on its own, however it does count towards chart listings so in a way it is a form of release. I'm trying to maintain some sense of consistency across the project. Cry About It Later and Not the End of the World both received a lot more coverage than Resilient. A remix of Cry About It Later was also released - this counts as an independent release from the album. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ≫ Lil-Unique1 -{ Talk }- 18:33, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Would you consider becoming a New Page Reviewer?
Hi Lil-unique1, I've recently been looking for editors to invite to join the new page reviewing team, and after reviewing your editing history, I think you would be a good candidate. Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; the new page reviewing team needs help from experienced users like yourself. Would you please consider becoming a New Page Reviewer? Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, most pages are easy to review, and habits are quick to develop). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us. If you choose to apply, you can drop an application over at WP:PERM/NPR. If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message on my talk page or at the reviewer's discussion board. Cheers, and hope to see you around, (t · c) buidhe 22:18, 2 June 2022 (UTC) |
