AfC news

Dear AfC participant,

  1. Msgj and Tnxman307 are organising the AfC challenge! It's a little competition to help improve some of the articles created through AfC and we are hoping that everyone will get involved. For level 1, you just need to bring a stub up to Start-class. Level 2 is improving a Start-class article to C-class. And so on. To get involved or for more information please see the competition page.
  2. Those of you who haven't reviewed an article recently might not have noticed the new process that was implemented this year. Reviewing articles is now more enjoyable than ever :) You might like to give it a try. All articles waiting for review are in Category:Pending Afc requests. (Please read the updated instructions.)
  3. Please consider adding {{AFC status}} to your userpage to keep track of the number of articles waiting for review. At the time of writing we are officially backlogged, so help is needed!
  4. There is currently a proposal to bring the Images for upload process under the umbrella of WikiProject Articles for creation. The rationale is that both processes are designed to allow unregistered users to take part more fully in Wikipedia, and partipants in each process can probably help each other.

If you no longer wish to receive messages from WikiProject Articles for creation, please remove your name from this list. Thank you.

Hi Lego, happy new year. I was just wondering how you were getting on with 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup? When it's reached the next level, please update the status on WikiProject Articles for creation/AfC challenge to get your points. Cheers, Martin 13:44, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Sorry to keep on at you, but have you had a chance to work on 2009 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup yet? Martin 22:28, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, I am finding more references. LegoKontribsTalkM 22:36, 20 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi. You may want to check some edits your bot has recently made [1]. There must be a bug or something. Greetings. --Tone 22:50, 7 January 2009 (UTC)

Noob trying to learn

I saw there was a stub for a village in Moldova - Tohatin - and made an entry (also did one for the stub on Dumbrava). You made mention I should cite sources. Understand the value of sources. However, there is very little (possibly none in English) written about Tohatin. I might be a reference (smile) since I own a dacha there. I would be very happy to work on all the Moldova stubs (and many of the Romanian ones) since I am an American semi-pat that spends about 9 months a year there. Tell me how you would like me to go about this so I can stay within guidelines. Eatpossum (talk) 03:14, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Welcome! You can find information about how to cite sources at WP:CITE. Also, all references don't have to be in English since there are tools like Google Translate. LegoKontribsTalkM 04:09, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Legobot 8

Re: Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Legobot 8. Thanks for that. I don't know much about bots or BRFA but let me know if I can help in any way. Cheers! DoubleBlue (talk) 13:20, 3 December 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Noticed that you did a run on Wikipedia:WikiProject Canadian football/Articles‎ and it works great. I have a couple of questions. Is it possible, or at least not difficult, to separate them into categories? i.e., Category 1 followed by the articles in that, Category 2 followed by its articles, etc. If not, then I notice there is an unnecessary duplication of articles (since they're listed in more than one Canadian football sub-category). I imagine it would be difficult to eliminate that duplication and, of course, it doesn't affect its use with related changes but does affect its length and use as a list. In any case, this list is great and works well. Thanks, DoubleBlue (talk) 05:54, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Oh, and I don't foresee myself using a raw list but it does seem like a reasonable extra feature. DoubleBlue (talk) 05:56, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Getting the categories would take up too many server resources. Duplicates should be removed when it next runs. LegoKontribsTalkM 00:47, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
That's fine then. Hope that it is approved now for regular use. Cheers! DoubleBlue (talk) 02:50, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

I have found a way to get the categories without taking up that many resources, so I will add that in, and use it for the next run. LegoKontribsTalkM 03:27, 27 January 2009 (UTC)

Wikipedia:WikiProject Canadian football/Articles: the categories are nicely done but, of course, something messed up with the article links. DoubleBlue (talk) 03:31, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Yes, I noticed that. I am getting a Unicode error, when I try to fix it. LegoKontribsTalkM 04:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
 Fixed and re-run. LegoKontribsTalkM 04:55, 28 January 2009 (UTC)
Excellent! Thanks. DoubleBlue (talk) 06:26, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

ArticleAlertbot / WikiProject Physics

Hi Legoktm,

there's a strange problem with the alert subscriptions for WikiProject Physics. They set the "archivetime" parameter to 90, but the bot doesn't honor it. Maybe there is a manual setting from the test phase which still persists. Could you run the following statement on the database?

UPDATE u_legoktm_alertbot.alertsubscr set auto_subscription=1 where project="WikiProject Physics";

I hope that this will resolve the problem. --B. Wolterding (talk) 15:40, 25 January 2009 (UTC)

I updated the table and then ran the bot. LegoKontribsTalkM 02:29, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
