Speedy deletion nomination of Tellas

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Tellas requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. [edit]

Please do not remove speedy deletion notices from pages you have created yourself. Please use the {{hangon}} template on the page instead if you disagree with the deletion, and make your case on the page's talk page. Thank you. The reason I have tagged the two articles on ISP is that the articles do not give independent and verifiable references to indicate the companies are notable Porturology (talk) 00:37, 11 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spelling

[edit]

On wikipedia, we use the most common English spelling for a foreign alphabet name. In the case of Lavrentis Mahairitsas, that means using the "h" for "x". A quick google news search shows one use of the "ch" [1], while there are four uses for "h" [2], including the English version of the Kathimerini which is a reliable source. Also, for Haris Alexiou, her official website spells her name "Haris" [3] so there is no way we can spell it another way if she has already chosen an English form. Some tips for you!

[edit]

Hi Jnacreturnw, I thought I'd drop a few notes on your talk page with some help on writing articles :o)

First of all, it may be best for you to do a bit of reading, starting with the Wikipedia manual of style, which will give you a lot of information about how Wikipedia prefers its articles to be written. It's not as hard to follow as it might look; quite a bit of the information there probably won't be vital for you at first.

Second, I recommend you make a user sandbox - which is just an area you can use to practise in, and to make notes in, and to get things ready in. If you click this red link: user:Jnacreturnw/Sandbox, that will let you create that page (it gives you an edit window to start work in). Anything, anywhere, on the help and information pages which gives you an example, try it out in your sandbox until you're familiar with it.

For your article, the next thing you want to do is start collecting as much information as you can about it. Google searches (particularly in Books and Scholar) will be your best friend for this! Once you've found the information, the next most important thing is to start writing up each fact in your own words (very important, this), and make a note at the same time of exactly where that information came from. Build in the references as you go along; I'm going to copy in, down below this, a whole heap of help on doing references, which was produced by one of our best teachers (Chzz).

Here's another place that you'll find incredibly useful - citation templates which you can copy and paste into your sandbox, between <ref></ref> tags; you just fill in the blanks from your sources into the template, and you'll end up with nicely formatted inline citations :o) It all helps. Remember to add a references section to your sandbox (make a new line, and put ==References== on it, and type {{reflist}} on the next line, so that you can see how your citations look as you do them. Remember to save your page often! You don't want to lose your work.

Hopefully this will give you a good start and make life easier for you. Pesky (talkstalk!) 08:26, 16 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

How references work

[edit]

Simple references

[edit]

These require two parts;

a)
Chzz is 98 years old.<ref> "The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009. </ref>

He likes tea. <ref> [http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com Tea website] </ref>
b) A section called "References" with the special code "{{reflist}}";
== References ==
{{reflist}}

(an existing article is likely to already have one of these sections)

To see the result of that, please look at user:chzz/demo/simpleref. Edit it, and check the code; perhaps make a test page of your own, such as user:Jnacreturnw/reftest and try it out.

Named references

[edit]
Chzz was born in 1837. <ref name=MyBook>
"The book of Chzz", Aardvark Books, 2009.
</ref>

Chzz lives in Footown.<ref name=MyBook/>

Note that the second usage has a / (and no closing ref tag). This needs a reference section as above; please see user:chzz/demo/namedref to see the result.

Citation templates

[edit]

You can put anything you like between <ref> and </ref>, but using citation templates makes for a neat, consistent look;

Chzz has 37 Olympic medals. <ref> {{Citation
 | last = Smith
 | first = John
 | title = Olympic medal winners of the 20th century
 | publication-date = 2001
 | publisher = [[Cambridge University Press]]
 | page = 125
 | isbn = 0-521-37169-4
}}
</ref>

Please see user:chzz/demo/citeref to see the result.

For more help and tips on that subject, see user:chzz/help/refs.

Something to make your life easier!

[edit]

Hi there Jnacreturnw! I've just come across one of your articles, and noticed that you had to create titles for your url links manually, or were using bare urls as references.

You might want to consider using this tool - it makes your life a whole heap easier, by filling in complete citation templates for your links. All you do is install the script on Special:MyPage/common.js, or or Special:MyPage/vector.js, then paste the bare url (without [...] brackets) between your <ref></ref> tabs, and you'll find a clickable link called Reflinks in your toolbox section of the page (probably in the left hand column). Then click that tool. It does all the rest of the work (provided that you remember to save the page! It doesn't work for everything (particularly often not for pdf documents), but for pretty much anything ending in "htm" or "html" (and with a title) it will do really, really well. Happy editing! Alitalia/Trapani

[edit]

Hello, yep no problem. On it:Aeroporto di Trapani-Birgi there is a note saying "from 25 june". Alitalia's press release isn't stating any dates (here but at Aumento delle frequenze, point 4 is announcing the flight). On Alitalia's website you will be able to book flights FCO-TPS from July's weekend. Any other probls just msg me. Ciao!--Sal73x (talk) 12:59, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No problems. Alitalia' web site is not the best and the flights are only seasonal. Now its all a question to see if it gets confirmed for the winter timetable. Thanks!--Sal73x (talk) 13:10, 29 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Sicily Airport article

[edit]

Hi Thakaran, I have just seen your new article Sicily Airport and I like it. I just wanted to point out a couple of issues and see what do you think is the best way to fix them.

The first three poins are not really an issue but, for the Closed airports it might be a good idea to redirect to List of airports in Sicily where readers can find the complete list of former airports/airfields/water aerodromes without making a mess of your article. Thanks for keeping up the good work! --Sal73x (talk) 22:42, 12 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for pointing these out! I revised the article, please let me know if something needs further "tweaking"! Thakaran 00:50, 13 May 2012 (UTC)
Hi Thakaran. I made few small edits and hope you don't mind. Suggestions:
  • maybe Borizzo Airport, since it belongs to the "Former airports" and has no operations (it's completely abandoned), could come off the map.
  • maybe is worth separate the list in two sections, main airports (CTA, PMO, TPS) and secondary airports. Just two ideas to make te list clearer.--Sal73x (talk) 21:07, 14 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ryanair destination

[edit]

I corrected the position of the airport names on the map because was some names overlapping and all was unreadable. The city name are not correct, because Ryanair sold some destination with "commercial" name but not real name. For example Bergamo is sold as "Milan-Bergamo" or Moss is sold as "Oslo-Rygge", but this are wrong name. Alicante Airport isn't Alicante/Elche. Glasgow Prestwick is Prestwick, Glasgow has another aiport as "Glasgow Airport". --Wind of freedom (talk) 16:27, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

See the article for Glasgow Prestwick Airport. I think it makes it pretty clear Glasgow Prestwick Airport (IATA: PIK, ICAO: EGPK) is Glasgow's second airport. I know Ryanair does that, but that's not always the case. Moss Airport, Rygge serves both Oslo and Moss as you can read in the article.

Naming of airports

[edit]

Please note that the naming of airports has been discussed frequently and the consensus is, that they have to be named after the nearest city served and not the next major one they use for marketing reasons. Therefore Il Carravagio is named Bergamo throughout all articles in this Wiki and not Milan. Bergamo itself is a relatively big city and Il Carravagio is it's primary airport. --84.156.38.245 (talk) 19:23, 4 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If that were the case, neither would Newark serve New York. BGY and MXP are almost equidistant to the city of Milan. IATA, the International Air Transport Association says Milan is the city served by BGY (Search for BGY as a Location code at [4]). Also, Amadeus, one of the biggest CRS's lists BGY as an airport serving Milan (Type Milan as a destination at [5]). Thakaran 04:18, 6 December 2013 (UTC)

Wikipedia policy states "Base articles on reliable, third-party, published sources with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." Wikipedia states that every article on Wikipedia must be based upon verifiable statements from multiple third–party reliable source with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy. kicker magazine is part of the media that is "entirely independent of the of the subject being covered" and "with a reputation for fact-checking and accuracy." If you can find an independent source with a good reputation that is in English, then feel free to change it. Until then, please don't change the source. I didn't mean to delete the reference you had cited, multiple references for something are better than one since the one you cited is in German and does not mention when the contract was signed, which is the date we are interested in. Confusion regarding Alitalia

[edit]

The whole thing regarding CAI First etc. is a little confusing. Those companys do exist and are part of Alitalia or better its parent company CAI. They still exist because the traffic rights of their predecessors Air One Cityliner, Volare and so on are bound to them. BUT they are NO airline brands, they are just generic names within CAI which contain the remains of their preceeding companys. They are part of Alitalia like Alitalias own AOC and all of them operate unter the brand name and company identified as Alitalia - basically Alitalia has 3-4 AOCs which all operate under one trading name. Therefore, we do not list "operated by CAI First" and so on as Alitalia is forced to maintain these registered companies owning an AOC and the respective traffic rights as Alialia is not allowed to incorporate them directly but they are no factual airlines - these are all "Alitalia" with Alitalia Cityliner beeing the only exception as it has an own brand name and displays it. So its all just "Alitalia" in our charts and not "Alitalia, AOC 1", "Alitalia, AOC 2" and so on as you basically suggest. Best regards. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.244.156.243 (talk) 17:34, 6 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Aegean Airlines Destinations

[edit]

Both ATH-OSL flights and HER-LGW (I guess Stansted was a typo) are not bookable yet but appear on Aegean's flight search page here [6]

Hi Thakaran! Since you are fluent in Greek, can you ask you for a favour? Could you check and see if my headline title (Παπωλεθριαν υπεστη η A.E.K. ηττηθη με 7–2) matches the reference? I used a Greek virtual keyboard site to write the signs myself, but since the references is written in caps, I'm not sure if my signs are accurate. Thanks! Arbero (talk) 12:21, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Since polytonic orthography is used in the article the title is spelled Πανωλεθρίαν ὑπέστη ἡ Α.Ε.Κ. – Ἡττήθη με 7–2. If some character is not decoded correctly, use Πανωλεθρίαν υπέστη η Α.Ε.Κ. – Ηττήθη με 7–2 instead. Thakaran 10:32, 26 October 2014 (UTC)

Virgin Australia International Airlines

[edit]

G'day, as Virgin Australia International Airlines is V Australia renamed, in my opinion it would be better to update the V Australia article then move the page over the redirect. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 00:19, 17 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

V Australia was a different company, perhaps the AOC was passed one but, as for example with Olympic Air, I believe a new article should be created in that case Thakaran 15:12, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
As I said, V Australia was renamed as Virgin Australia International Airlines; at the same time as Virgin Blue was renamed Virgin Australia. The AOC being 'passed on' means that it is the same entity. Under Australian law, if V Australia was a different company, then all of its staff would have lost their jobs and received severance pay, and then been reemployed - this did not happen. Cheers YSSYguy (talk) 02:56, 19 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, OK, feel free to revert my work and merge it into Virgin Blue :) Thakaran 11:57, 22 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or

Newark

[edit]

This has been discussed many times in the past (please see the following discussions):

Flights to EWR are to be listed as "Newark". If you want to start a new discussion, please do so at WT:AIRPORTS. Thanks! 97.85.113.113 (talk) 03:52, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, this goes to show how useful the Edit summary is! Had that user explained why he reverted my edit, nothing would have happened. Now regarding US Airways, the flights actually end on that date, I didn't add that end date just because of the rebranding. Use the references I provided on the article to see for yourself.
This was actually discussed at the US Airways talk page (Talk:US_Airways#Adding_end_date_for_US_Airways_and_US_Airways_Express_flights_and_adding_start_date_for_American_Airlines.2F_American_Eagle.3F). We are not adding begin/end dates for these service (crew, aircraft, and flight number remain the same just the "US" code will be automatically changed to "AA" coded flights after that date). Instead, we are now putting a footnote for US listing saying that the flights will be rebranded as AA flights on October 17, 2015 and when October 17th approaches, we just simply remove US and add AA. Thanks! 97.85.113.113 (talk) 15:35, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
From what I read that was just your suggestion, not a conclusion. Anyway, since the date is only 3 days away I don't think there is any point in arguing further. Thakaran (talk) 23:26, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Destination maps

[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you'd like to keep on airport's articles destinations maps. Well, after that discussion where we decided to remove all maps, which are now not allowed, we've removed all maps from airports. I suggest you have a look here (n°15) where is clearly stated that destination maps are not allowed.
Bye Wjkxy (talk) 17:58, 3 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I read that discussion, no consensus was reached there. 3 users agreed they did not support the use of Destination maps in the form of an uploaded map of the area with colored countries and no labels, not the kind on Thessaloniki Airport. (RMS52 said a map that just highlights countries with no labels at all is not very useful, a totally different kind of map.)
Actually that discussion was for all kind of destination map (for example I wrote that in my opinion a destination map could be useful for airline's articles, but other users said something like "No way!". Anyway, I linked this page of WP:AIRPORTS, which states: "Do not add destination maps, this is considered a duplicate of information." Wjkxy (talk) 18:18, 4 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Greek airprots statistics

[edit]

Many thanks for pointing out the source from YPA - I agree that there were some international passengers in 2014 at Alexandroupolis, Naxos and Skyros. Looking for example at Alexandoupolis, it appears that there were 543 passengers departing on international flights during 2014 of which 512 travelled in August. Assuming a widely used mid-sized aircraft such as a Boeing 737 or Airbus 320 with about 150 seats and August being peak season so flights likely full, this suggests perhaps 4 special charter flights for the entire year. Do you perhaps have a slightly stronger source, which shows that international flights took place on a regular basis in the last 12 months (ideally in 2015) so we can show that what happened in 2014 wasn't just an unusual case and we can refer to specific international destinations to justify the continued classification of these Greek airports as international ? Maybe something from a travel agency or holiday company offering holidays including air travel to Alexandroupolis, Naxos and Skyros for summer 2015 or even summer 2016 ? Pmbma (talk) 01:22, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, at least not for Alexandroupoli, I found out about those flights through YPA too. For Naxos however, Intersky operated charter flights to 3 destinations in S15, I guess they will be replaced by another airline now. See: [7] and [8].
I just found an update stats file (in Greek). It covers January-August 2015: [9]. For Alexandroupoli: 8 aircraft departures and arrivals (e.g. 4 departures, 4 arrivals) in June, 10 in July, 20 in August. For Naxos: 2 in May, 16 in June, 16 in July and 20 in August. For Skyros: 14 in May, 14 in June, 13 in July and 26 in August. Thakaran (talk) 01:55, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Thakaran,

I have posted to users that i seen have reverted setting on LCA Airport page and didn't include that route, you was one of them in the history. Let me ask you some questions do you think that El Al should be in after the EgyptAir as i take it, it is two separate words and should be in front of all other airlines like easyjet which are one word ( same case as Jet Time ). However if you really think it should be there i don't have a problem. SmartWings brand should be in separate from other Travel service Airlines as it is own brand, it is separate on all pages of Wikipedia so please kindly keep it that way. As well brand should be specified under the airline section as it is brand of airline not the brand of destination. Wappy2008 (talk) 00:30, 20 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

SmartWings

[edit]

Hey there, to clarify this: I know that SmartWings is just a brand and uses the IATA and ICAO codes of Travel Service. However, this is explained in the article and there is no reason you continue to delete the fleet and most of the information. If you think this is correct you need to delete most of Aer Lingus Regional or Sun D'Or and several other brands as well as they both use codes "borrowed" from other airlines and also display a fleet, destinations and so on. If there is any further need for discussion on how airline brands should be threated from now on, I'm happy to open a question at the Portal:Aviation. Best regards.
