Request for excerpt of Nintendo Official Magazine Issue #72
Hello there Jaguar,
I realized you've retired and might not see this but just in case you do go on Wikipedia any time soon:
I was wondering if I could get my hands on the seventy-second issue of Nintendo Official Magazine, specifically its Mario's Picross review? I'm trying to improve the article and you are listed as the contact for that specific issue on this page. The excerpt would help broaden the reception section as well as provide some references.
Please ping me if you read this. Thanks~

Upcoming changes to wikitext parsing
Hello,
There will be some changes to the way wikitext is parsed during the next few weeks. It will affect all namespaces. You can see a list of pages that may display incorrectly at Special:LintErrors. Since most of the easy problems have already been solved at the English Wikipedia, I am specifically contacting tech-savvy editors such as yourself with this one-time message, in the hope that you will be able to investigate the remaining high-priority pages during the next month.
There are approximately 10,000 articles (and many more non-article pages) with high-priority errors. The most important ones are the articles with misnested tags and table problems. Some of these involve templates, such as infoboxes, or the way the template is used in the article. In some cases, the "error" is a minor, unimportant difference in the visual appearance. In other cases, the results are undesirable. You can see a before-and-after comparison of any article by adding ?action=parsermigration-edit to the end of a link, like this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Foss?action=parsermigration-edit (which shows a difference in how {{infobox ship}} is parsed).
If you are interested in helping with this project, please see Wikipedia:Linter. There are also some basic instructions (and links to even more information) at https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-ambassadors/2018-April/001836.html You can also leave a note at WT:Linter if you have questions.
Thank you for all the good things you do for the English Wikipedia. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:18, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Hello Jaguar,
Your script User:Jaguar/monobook.js is no longer functional because it attempts to get an editToken

Sorry to keep starting new threads on your talk :P... but I wanted to ask you if you would be interested in potentially collaborating with me on this over the summer. I think the game needs to have a FA-quality article, but unfortunately the article as-is has deteriorated considerably since you got it promoted in 2015 (especially that gameplay section). I've started a draft at User:TheJoebro64/drafts/DKC to bring some glory back to Donkey Kong Island, and I think I might need some help from the Oracle of Rare himself. If you don't want to help it's fine, I just wanted to ask JOEBRO64 19:38, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- Hey Joe, I'm glad you asked! I was actually looking over DKC a few days ago and was lamenting over its woeful condition. To be honest I was never happy with my contribution to it because so much more could have been added. It has deteriorated a lot since, you're right. I've always wanted to push it to FA and I'm sure our dream team could do just that. I finished my second year at university a few days ago (exams got cancelled) so for once I'll be totally free until September. I don't know if you saw me editing Rayman 2 - I always intended that to be my FA swansong before I left Wikipedia but never got around to it. It can wait though, I'll see if I can prepare some sources for DKC. I think it needs a total revamp. JAGUAR 20:27, 17 May 2020 (UTC)
- Sounds good! I've mostly been gathering sources at this point and laying the groundwork; I've got a few tests to finish up myself, and then I've got to finish up the GAN for The Defenders (miniseries). But after that I'm totally ready. Also I really wanted to have an excuse to cite this Kotaku piece JOEBRO64 17:04, 19 May 2020 (UTC)

Non-free album cover art is generally allowed to be used for primary identification purposes in stand-alone articles about albums, but its use in other articles is generally only allowed when the cover art itself is the subject of sourced critical commentary as explained in WP:NFC#cite_note-3 and the context for non-free use required by WP:NFCC#8 is evident. There is no such commentary for this particular album cover anywhere in the article, which means there's no real justification for the non-free use of this file.
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:00, 12 August 2020 (UTC)
Hello
Great to see you around. How are you keeping? CassiantoTalk 13:39, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
- I've been well thank you Cassianto. I was whisked away again but now I'm back and am more determined to actually get on writing stuff! I got some books in the post which I plan to use to help me get Portsmouth to FA in the future. How have you been? JAGUAR 15:00, 22 August 2020 (UTC)
PlayStation (console)
Is there a particular reason you're switching some of the references to HARV style? WP:CITEVAR suggests styles shouldn't be changed and should be consistent within an article. -- ferret (talk) 21:16, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Don't worry ferret, I'm planning to convert most (if not all) the refs to harv. I'm planning to get the article to GA status after a six year long spell! Should have probably put an {{under construction}} notice to signal my intent, but early days yet. JAGUAR 21:19, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- That makes me worry, that was the whole point of my message. You shouldn't be changing it to harv at all, not without consensus to change the established citation style. Please reverse course, harv is not the established style and is certainly uncommon and atypical in the video game space. -- ferret (talk) 21:22, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware? I've done the same in other VG articles, and me and Joebro recently converted refs to harv at DKC. I've always preferred it personally as it feels more 'encyclopaedic' if you know what I mean. JAGUAR 21:26, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- You weren't aware that HARV was not the established style in PlayStation? Or that it's not typically used on video game articles (it's not)? Or that CITEVAR, which I just linked, existed? Either way, I'm expressing opposition as I feel it's absolutely worse for readers, in that you have to make extra clicks to get to the reference, as well as doubling the amount of space taken up references, especially on mobile. -- ferret (talk) 21:32, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware that the Harvard style was discouraged on video games articles (or any topic for that matter). To be fair I've been away for so long my familiarity with guidlines has dulled a bit. In the case of the PlayStation article most of the sources I will be using will derive from magazines, journals and a few books I own. In this case I would prefer Harvard as it's more versatile with referencing prints and there's the benefit of having the works in alphabetical order. Should I raise this on the talk page before I proceed with the rewrite? JAGUAR 21:40, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- What exactly is your goal in switching to Harv? How does it make referencing more versatile? Also you should be aware of Wikipedia:HARVARD which was just depreciated this month. -- ferret (talk) 21:49, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- It was text-based parenthetical citations that was depreciated, was it not? Quite certain I've never seen them on Wikipedia before. Anyway I don't have a goal or anything, I just think harv refs are more precise in referencing specific pages and are more suited for in-depth articles, which PlayStation is (or should be soon). I'll see what others think. Maybe university swayed me. JAGUAR 22:10, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- Are you familiar with {{rp}} for specifying pages on "normal" refs? Which will soon (tm) be integrated into the ref tag itself. -- ferret (talk) 22:13, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- No. That looks good. Wish it was integrated a long time ago. JAGUAR 22:21, 8 September 2020 (UTC)
- If your goal is to have all the citations in one place, rather than buried in the wikitext all over, look at how Space Run (which you reviewed!) was done. You can do that with normal references. {{rp}} will let you specify a page where needed, and in the near (tm) future, you'll be able to do it directly on the tag. Switching to that style also technically requires a consensus, but I'd support that. -- ferret (talk) 22:28, 8 September 2020 (UTC)

- It's common to use {{sfn}} and a dedicated Bibliography/Sources section when expanding/sourcing an article that has more page references than web links. As long as it's part of expansion/rewrite to make the citations easier to read (i.e., not a drive-by for cosmetics), as long as it meets the needs when discussed with the page's other editors, I've never seen it to be an issue. If an article's notes are 80% web links, though, you probably don't need to convert the whole thing to harv notation, but can use a hybrid (similar to how it is at this moment, only using short footnotes for the items that cite books, whose full citations are in a separate section). But for the love of Jimbo anything but {{rp}}, which makes citations even more obtuse for readers. By the way, the recent RfC wasn't deprecating harv notation but in-line notation. Harv notation is the standard for short footnotes. czar 09:12, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- That's what I thought czar, I've always used {{sfn}} for a dedicated bibliography and the short footnotes will make it easier for me and the reader. Just tried out {{rp}} in a sandbox and think it clutters the prose. I suppose I'll carry on with what I'm doing but won't convert it all to harv, only the books/journals. Similar to what I last did with Super Mario World. JAGUAR 11:28, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- Expanding bibligraphy for new books and journals would likely not have caught my eye. My opposition stems for web cites being converted one by one from the existing reference style to Harv. That said, I continue to believe Harv is more harmful to readers in a general sense. My thoughts on that are on the talk page. -- ferret (talk) 13:54, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
Hello Sir
My Name Is Omar, An Editor on Arabic wikipedia! This Is My First Time writing a message to Someone From Other lang Wikipedia. I could not help but admire your page, and also wonder about your interests that are very similar to me, as well as the very similar birthdate, as I was born on January 27, 1996 I would like to get to know you better or talk to you about a topic! عمر أنور (talk) 01:18, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hello Omar, it is nice to hear from you. It is interesting that our birthdates are quite similar! 1996 was a good year. My interests range from history to ships and geography. What are yours? I have also learned a bit about the Arabian region from my studies. JAGUAR 01:45, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
I'm So Glad That You Replied, As For My Interests Is Basically History (Medieval and Older), and Ships (ww1 and ww2 and little bit of older era), Also a little Bit Of Technology (Programing Mostly As I'm Also a C# Programer and a), Right Now I Have No Interest In Geography (0 knowledge). Right Now I'm Working On this article, and i see you are working on playstation article, witch is on list.عمر أنور (talk) 14:35, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- Naval ships are one of the best covered areas on the English Wikipedia. You've made a good start! Looking at articles in other languages is a good way to collect more sources. I've never written about ships before but I usually work on things I find interesting. I'm also interested in general technology but don't think I could write about those topics. I plan to work on some biographies next, if my university studies don't draw me away... JAGUAR 23:50, 12 November 2020 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:PlayStation Mouse profile.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:PlayStation Mouse profile.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the file description page and add the text
{{Di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}}
below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing<your reason>
with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable. - On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Whpq (talk) 01:05, 26 January 2021 (UTC)

Dorking GAN
Hi Jaguar,
I’m not sure if you remember, but you very kindly reviewed Stane Street (Chichester) just before Christmas. Since then I’ve been working on Dorking (in Surrey) and have just nominated it as a Good Article candidate. (I have received a lot of useful input from a number of fellow editors, so I hope the article is in good shape.) Would you be willing to take a look at it please?
Thanks and best wishes, Mertbiol (talk) 09:07, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Mertbiol. No problem, I'll leave some comments within a couple of days. It's always a pleasure to review a local GAN, although I can't remember the last time I went to Dorking! ♦ jaguar 16:49, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
