Edit summaries

Hey, I noticed you don’t often summarise your edits. I’ve never questioned your edits, but I just think it’s a good habit, especially for others who might also review your edits. Even if it’s just a few words to describe what you did, that’s fine too. You can set a reminder in your account settings if you go to Special:Preferences, then the “Editing” tab, then tick “Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary (or the default undo summary)”. Thanks! Fork99 (talk) 11:27, 10 August 2023 (UTC)

@Fork99 good point- I'll make sure to do it in the future. HoHo3143 (talk) 12:28, 11 August 2023 (UTC)

Alamein line quickfail

I've ruled the quickfail you received as ineligible for the drive. If you want to renominate it now, I can 'reset' the nomination so it goes back to the same place in the backlog it was originally in. Vaticidalprophet 23:35, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

@Vaticidalprophet thank you. I've gone and renominated it. @Jalapeño would you be willing to complete the review again if I go back and fix the sourcing? I am willing to do this especially as the article is successful with the rest of the GA criteria (according to the table you filled out). HoHo3143 (talk) 23:58, 12 August 2023 (UTC)
I'm really tired right now, and I'm on vacation, on top of that. I'll check it out once I've actually had some rest. Fixing the sourcing would definitely be a great way to improve the article, so if you could, please do that. 🌶️Jalapeño🌶️ Don't click this link! 00:02, 13 August 2023 (UTC)

@Jalapeño right ok. Would you be able to find someone else to complete the review on your behalf? That would be a big favour due to the article now being "tarnished" by the quick fail. HoHo3143 (talk) 09:41, 14 August 2023 (UTC)

Williamstown line GA nomination

HoHo3143, the article you've nominated has a copyedit template on it. I would strongly advise that you get that copyedit done before your article is selected to be reviewed; that template is sufficient grounds for a quickfail by a GA reviewer, and I feel sure that, having waited so long, a quickfail is the last thing you would want. Best of luck. BlueMoonset (talk) 15:54, 17 August 2023 (UTC)

HoHo3143, just glancing at your talk page above, you seem to have an awful lot of GA nominations in progress. Personally, I'd suggest slowing down in nominating pages, especially when some have significant sourcing issues which should be addressed before going to GAN. Thanks. -Kj cheetham (talk) 09:09, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
P.S. Even just glancing at Upfield line, which hasn't been reviewed yet, I can see ref 3 is for Cranbourne and Pakenham (same as last two articles of yours I looked at), and some of the Accessibility section has the exact same issues as the last two articles of yours I looked at, further indicating to me there's a lot of copy and pasting between your articles going on. -Kj cheetham (talk) 09:14, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

Fixing some issues

Hi @Kj cheetham, @Dylnuge, and @Premeditated Chaos. As you three have made some important feedback over the past day about my GA nominations, I've decided to take some important action from your feedback. Tonight I completed a copyedit and a cleanup (/fixing) of the sourcing on the Upfield line article and have therefore kept it up as a GA nomination. I hope this article is now fixed enough that it wouldn't be quick-failed. For the other 5 articles currently nominated (Cragieburn, Sunbury, Werribee, Williamstown, and Warrnambool) I have taken these articles down and will complete the same process over the coming days. For the other few articles that have actually been failed, I will fix the issues later on. And for any article that is currently receiving feedback, I will continue to act on that feedback accordingly. Thank you everyone for the feedback that you have provided and my historical mistakes that you have pointed out. If you need to let me know additional feedback (reviewing Upfield, providing pointers, etc) I am ready and willing to take on the feedback. Thank you. HoHo3143 (talk) 13:43, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

HoHo3143, thank you for taking action on the feedback. It'll no doubt save some time of GA reviewers overall. I'm happy to review the Upfield line article if you'd like? (I'm equally happy if someone else wants to.) Though it may take me a few days. -Kj cheetham (talk) 16:08, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
HoHo3143, I'd like to suggest that you leave those other five articles at GAN while you work on updating them rather than remove them. You have months of seniority built up, and it would be a shame to forfeit it, which you will do if you renominate them later. (Restoring them now strikes me as your best option; restoring later while claiming the original seniority is problematic.) Best of luck! BlueMoonset (talk) 18:40, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
Note that the above assumes that these issues can be dealt within in a short period of time. If not, you may indeed want to withdraw some or all of them as you have done; as noted elsewhere, there is no rush. BlueMoonset (talk) 18:42, 18 August 2023 (UTC)
@BlueMoonset its a fair point. I am going to fix the craigieburn line tonight and then undo the takedown so it keeps its position. It's a shame but the others will have to wait till later but the ones I've taken down take priority over the ones that have failed (which will be fixed later). @Kj cheetham if you'd like to you can review the Upfield article. Hopefully it is better and I haven't missed anything. If I have, make sure to point it out in the review. Thanks everyone. HoHo3143 (talk) 01:26, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
I just came here from checking the list of old GANs and noticing they were all gone. I plan on running another backlog drive before the end of the year, and I think by that point if they haven't been reviewed yet they'll have worked back into age-bonus eligibility, so hopefully it won't be a problem to renominate them. There's no rush -- as someone who's used a lot of public transit in Melbourne, I want to see this project succeed too. Vaticidalprophet 13:02, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
@Vaticidalprophet thank you for this (and the encouragement too). I look forward to another backlog drive and I'm aiming to have fixed and renominated all of the Metro articles (plus 1 V/Line article) and hopefully some of the station ones by then. If that has been completed then I'll continue working on rebuilding the V/Line articles however this time to a higher standard. HoHo3143 (talk) 13:30, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
I'm willing to try help out with things, though I don't have so much interest in trains for their own sake rather than public transit as a sociological phenomenon. I knew looking over the articles that everything in them should be verifiable -- the trouble is just whether the sources currently in them verify it. This is an easier problem to fix than if we didn't know, because we know the sources should exist and can be found. I noticed some of the articles in the Melbourne transit project also seemed like they could use some more information (e.g. a number of the stations don't mention much about level crossing-related rebuilds), so it'd be great to get some more about that as well. I think this would be a really great GT and maybe even FT in the longer run, and I want to see the articles succeed even if it takes a little longer. Vaticidalprophet 13:57, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
@Vaticidalprophet I also agree with you- I find transport itself more interesting than the trains, their sentimental value, and the technical aspects themselves (an example being when the Comeng trains are being retired I'm happy whereas others are saddened bc of sentimental reasons). For some aspects of the rail network sources are easy to find whereas others (like signalling and history from 1970s-2005ish) is really really hard to find reliable sources. It would be great for this to be a GT one day and so hopefully I'll get there (a bit more slowly now (but it does make sense as to why)). HoHo3143 (talk) 12:42, 20 August 2023 (UTC)

Geo-linking

Hi there, just for interest (nothing to do with Good Articles), I thought you may be interested to know about MOS:GEOLINK, especially for the first sentance of articles. I admit it's something I only came across myself very recently. This is just something to be aware of, not mandatory. -Kj cheetham (talk) 19:17, 31 August 2023 (UTC)

The main thing to avoid is linking Australia, as that is a commonly known place around the world, and can lead to sea of blue issues. Steelkamp (talk) 00:34, 1 September 2023 (UTC)
@Kj cheetham @Steelkamp thank you for raising this point. I'll make sure to correctly do this in the future. HoHo3143 (talk) 02:16, 2 September 2023 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Tarneit Station Barnstar!
Just like Tarneit, you haven't been around for long, but you are busy and up to a lot, punching above your weight! As a newer editor, much like Tarneit, you are showing a lot of promise. Keep it up, and one day you will be the Williamstown Line (which is the best Line and if you disagree, I'll take you to ANI for offensive conduct). In all seriousness, well done on all your articles. You are working very hard, and well done. I think in the future you should probably nominate fewer articles to stop yourself getting bogged down in a slew of work, but you seemed to have coped well! You took the advice properly and made the required corrections. — MaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 09:23, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
@MaxnaCarta thank you for this! I work progressively on the articles, taking my time when needed and then when there's a drive, everything gets reviewed all at once! And also thank you for not invalidly quick-failing the article unlike a few other editors. HoHo3143 (talk) 10:11, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
Hmmm. I’m 50/50 on whether they validly quickfailed. Those issues are real. Some editors are not prepared to give detailed feedback. I am always willing to raise the issue and let it be fixed. For me personally, there is no rushed timeline. For others, they’ll fail. I’d check the feedback, fix any issues and renominate. Good luck! — MaxnaCarta  ( 💬 • 📝 ) 10:34, 17 August 2023 (UTC)
@MaxnaCarta yeah I've added the sandy and flemington lines to a to do list to fix them up a bit. The Alamein line was marked as an invalid quick-fail by the drive co-ordinators. The sandy line hasn't been confirmed yet, but I suspect it is. And I've only checked the Flemington one now and it is a valid one- so my mistake. I'll get around to fixing these hopefully soon.
