HomeCo draft and sourcing

The draft has been declined three times. You have now resubmitted it a fourth time without improving the sourcing. What makes you think this time will go differently? (Actually, I can think of two ways this could go differently, and neither is pleasant for you - either the draft gets rejected, meaning "don’t bother resubmitting", or you get blocked for being a net drain on editor time.)

You ask for feedback, but you have been given ample advice at the Teahouse and on the draft page.

If you have not understood something that was said to you about what kind of sources are needed, please say so, and we will try to explain better. If you think you have understood the advice, but that your sources are sufficient, list your three best sources (not more than three - see WP:THREE for why). TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 09:17, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Hi Tigraan,
Thanks for reaching out- I appreciate it.
Prior to the previous submission I added extra sources. These include ones that are secondary, independent news articles from the Australian Financial Review, 7 news, shopping centre news, the urban developer, and more. I have also included sources from the company's stock exchange reports (required legally) and other information sourced from the company, and its owner. The most recent rejection stated that it sounds like an advertisement. I have received feedback from people in the teahouse and acted upon this, removing examples of tenants and trying to make it sound less advertisie (I had no intention of making an ad/promotion in the first place). The second bit of feedback was that it "do[es] not show significant coverage (not just passing mentions) about the subject in published, reliable, secondary sources that are independent of the subject". As stated previously in this message, I believed these sources did meet this criteria.
I appreciate your assistance and feedback- I am trying my best as I am new to wikipedia policies. HoHo3143 (talk) 09:46, 23 September 2022 (UTC)
The second bit of feedback, about proving "notability" (via sources that are significant coverage, in reliable, independent sources) is much, much more important than the first ("reads as an advertisement"). Problems of tone can usually be fixed. A lack of sources cannot. If sources are lacking, any work you do will be wasted, so it is worth it to find out first before spending time polishing the language.
Stock exchange reports and other information sourced from the company and its owner clearly fail the "independence" test of WP:GNG. Some other sources may fail the same test in more subtle ways. Interviews are a typical example of sources that are published by an independent outlet, but the information present in them is not independent (since it comes from the CEO/spokesperson etc.). Even more subtle are interviews-in-disguise: those are articles written in the third person, where the amount of direct quotes is low, but the information clearly comes entirely from a single interview with the CEO/spokesperson/etc. For instance, I would argue that that source is not independent: it is very clear that all the information present in the article is derived from what HomeCo / Aventus said to the journalist or published via press release.
Furthermore, the "significant coverage" test can exclude even full-length articles if they are WP:ROUTINE in nature. Usually, the two tests are somewhat linked - if a journalist is going to do significant investigative work about a company (i.e. independent), they will usually uncover stuff that goes beyond standard routine mentions.
Again, I suggest you list the WP:THREE best sources you have. (Pick them carefully, because it’s a one-shot thing.) TigraanClick here for my talk page ("private" contact) 13:47, 23 September 2022 (UTC)

Pakenham railway line (and others)

Thanks for working on the Pakenham railway line and getting it up to a Good Article standard. I've started working on updating the line infoboxes and line diagrams for Victoria (and eventually stations) here. I'm hoping to be able to dedicate more time to this over the coming weeks, with the aim of bringing all lines up to the same standard and uniformity. -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 10:45, 23 December 2022 (UTC)

Pakenham East Depot moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Pakenham East Depot, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.Onel5969 TT me 12:45, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

Now sure if you are aware of Template:Rwsa, very useful for adding links to Australian stations. Eg:

  • {{rwsa|Toorak}} instead of [[Toorak railway station|Toorak]]
  • {{rwsa|Armadale|m}} instead of [[Armadale railway station, Melbourne|Armadale]]

Make adding links easier. --ThylacineHunter (talk) 06:25, 9 February 2023 (UTC)

Adding cleanup and maintenance tags to articles

Please be advised that it's not necessary – and generally considered disruptive if done frequently – to wallpaper articles in maintenance tags, like you did with {{empty section}} and {{needs expansion}} in this edit to Stony Point railway line. It's also especially discouraged to add them to the infobox and article lead like in that edit (in no small part because they end up appearing above together at the very top of the article), or to add them to the References section like in this edit. In the latter case, if an article genuinely needs more references to support its content, you should use {{more citations needed}} once at the top of the article, or {{more citations needed section}} in the relevant content section/s. You might want to look at Wikipedia:Template index/Cleanup to get a better idea of what templates are available, and how to use them.

I personally also think that adding a bunch of empty sections to articles and then simply tagging them as empty sections is bad practice, unless you're going to be able to fill them in within a few hours – and in that case I'd just put an {{Under construction}} message at the top of the article instead – but I don't know how the rest of the community feels about it so I won't tell you to stop or anything.

Thanks for your efforts all the same. XAM2175 (T) 11:25, 10 February 2023 (UTC)

@XAM2175 thanks for letting me know. I try and rebuild these articles in under 5 days to keep the disruptions to a minimum. I'll make sure not to put the needs expansion tag at the top of articles in the future. HoHo3143 (talk) 08:21, 11 February 2023 (UTC)

Warrnambool page is fine due to West Coast Railway, but the Operators sections on the others will need to note form 29 August 1999 to 1 October 2003 V/Line was not government owned (see V/Line#National Express). -- ThylacineHunter (talk) 03:23, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Warrnambool page

Almost all of the History in both the 19th and 20th centuries belongs on the Port Fairy railway line page not the a V/Line service, remember this page is about the service not the line. Try adding info about The Flyer (1927–c. 1967) and The Westcoaster (1987–c. 2004).
Also the 2 pics in the 20th century aren't to do with the Warrnambool service.

@JML1148 thanks for letting me know! I've gone ahead and added my name to the list supporting it but noting that I won't be able to help with the setting up of it. HoHo3143 (talk) 11:22, 12 June 2023 (UTC)
Also, I've noticed your really good essay User:HoHo3143/Improving Melbourne train station articles. If the Wikiproject succeeds, would you mind it being moved under the Wikiproject? JML1148 (talk | contribs) 08:44, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
Definitely! I've reached out to @NotOrrio for his opinion/feedback on the essay and if he would be willing to provide input and follow it (like I do). Hopefully I should receive a response soon. HoHo3143 (talk) 12:02, 16 June 2023 (UTC)
I think, if the project is to be established, some minor changes could be made to make it applicable to any station in Australia, as well. Well done on the essay again, I've been using it on Brighton Beach railway station and it's been fantastic. JML1148 (talk | contribs) 03:20, 17 June 2023 (UTC)
