WikiCup 2020 September newsletter

The fourth round of the competition has finished, with 865 points being required to qualify for the final round, nearly twice as many points as last year. It was a hotly competitive round with two contestants with 598 and 605 points being eliminated, and all but two of the contestants who reached the final round having achieved an FA during the round. The highest scorers were

  • Free Hong Kong Bloom6132, with 1478 points gained mainly from 5 featured lists, 12 DYKs and 63 in the news items;
  • IndonesiaHaEr48 with 1318 points gained mainly from 2 featured articles, 5 good articles and 8 DYKs;
  • England Lee Vilenski with 1201 points mainly gained from 2 featured articles and 10 good articles.

Between them, contestants achieved 14 featured articles, 14 featured lists, 2 featured pictures, 87 good articles, 90 DYK entries, 75 ITN entries, 95 featured article candidate reviews and 81 good article reviews. Congratulations to all who participated! It was a generally high-scoring and productive round and I think we can expect a highly competitive finish to the competition.

Remember that any content promoted after the end of round 4 but before the start of round 5 can be claimed in round 5. Remember too that you must claim your points within 10 days of "earning" them. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. It would be helpful if this list could be cleared of any items no longer relevant. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, please do your bit to keep down the review backlogs! Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages or by email. If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove yourself from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. Why was the Evoque Data Center Solutions page deleted?

Thanks for your quick response...would you be able to tell me which parts of the Evoque Data Center Solutions entry was deemed to be too commercial? From my perspective, we worked to make this a fact-based entry. Please let me know specifically which sections should be changed, and we'll get to work on it ASAP.

Many thanks.

StevePR104 (talk) 20:16, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Hey StevePR104 and welcome to Wikipedia. There are a few problems here with regards to both this account and the article. Firstly, I am assuming you are the Director of Competitive Intelligence at Evoque Data Center Solutions. You may be unaware of some rules regarding Wikipedia's conflict of interest guidelines, specifically that all paid editors must declare their conflict of interest following WP:DISCLOSE. As well, accounts can only be run by one person so there should be no "we." Secondly, the article you wrote should've gone through our article for creation process where it would've been reviewed by an experienced editor. Even then, it likely would've been rejected for it failed to comply with our neutral point of view policy. For example, using language like The company supports a diversified base of colocation customers might be ok for a company website but not for Wikipedia. I suggest checking out similar articles to get a feel for how an encyclopedia should be written. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, I strongly recommend just leaving Wikipedia alone and not editing it. Us volunteer editors often resent that paid or conflict of interest editors write non-neutrally, displaying obvious bias toward themselves or their clients, and write promotionally. A neutral point of view is one of the five pillars of Wikipedia, and is non-negotiable. The encyclopedia is here for knowledge, it isn't here to be used as a personal website. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 20:25, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi, Please understand that it's our objective to work cooperatively with you. You've provided us with several areas on which we can focus. We can provide you with links to third-party articles written about Evoque, as well as other information presented in a factual manner. Obviously, we've been to pages about other companies in our segment, and believed our writeup to have been done in the same manner. Obviously, we were wrong...so I'd like your help in making this writeup more acceptable and in conformance with Wikipedia's standards. Many thanks.

StevePR104 (talk) 20:33, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

Here's the thing StevePR104, I'm a volunteer. You are being paid to work on this while I edit Wikipedia for joy and as a hobby. I do not wish to enter into a Wikipedia:Buy one, get one free scheme (I suggest reading this essay). I suggest you head my advice above (including declaring your COI) but if your only goal is to use Wikipedia as a promotional platform, your tenure here will be short. Can You help restoring The page Rakesh_Sidana

It was my last mistake to upload the image, that i tagged as non-copyright and I still don't know editing wiki correctly. Sorry, this will be the last mistake. Better I will find new guy who know how to do editing correctly. I was "mistakenly" managing my own page, that was deleted, please help me restoring page "wiki/Rakesh_Sidana" Best Wishes for your success. @HickoryOughtShirt?4:) Rakeshsidana2020 (talk) 18:21, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Rakeshsidana2020, no I will not repost your self-written biography onto Wikipedia. This is not what Wikipedia is for. Please find another platform to post your own website/information at. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:30, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

This is not for website, this is live person biography. I will remove all links and pics that look violation. Do you want me to hire somebody to write live person information. I am author and visionary for the industry. Please just quickly type name Rakesh Sidana. If you restore, I will correct the page. thanks. Rakeshsidana2020 (talk) 18:37, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

Rakeshsidana2020 Your username is the same name as the article, thus I assumed it was about you. Wikipedia isn't the place for self promotion. If that is your only goal here, I will gladly block you per WP:NOTHERE. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 18:41, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

The page was also contributed and managed by others users. We can remove last edits made by me and keep the edits done by others. Please check it again. Being myself author of 3 books, I would like to contribute to WP in my industry even if you don't restore. I like Wikipedia. Without insisting on it more, I am leaving you for a decision on restoring it. Thanks for replying Rakeshsidana2020 (talk) 19:18, 6 September 2020 (UTC)

howdy

hey, thanks for helping me realize that my edits were not getting through on my own page due to not having my ID verified. Now that it has been and I am making some small edits to my biography etc on my page, I would very much appreciate those edits not being altered in any way. One of the reasons I've been inclined to make these edits is due to the fact that my web bio on google shows John Byrne as my father, which he is definitely not, and while he was married to my mother, they divorced many years ago and at no time would I have referred to him as my stepfather, nor was he in any legal sense. Thanks!

Hello! We could use some help over at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/RFP360. This request is in line with Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents per the section "Want to skip the drama? Check the Recently Active Admins list for admins who may be able to help directly." best regards B, — Preceding unsigned comment added by An Original Leg (talkcontribs) 04:55, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

An Original Leg, I suggest spending more hours on referencing since slews of paragraphs were unsourced. You may also wish to allocate time to reading our conflict of interest guidelines. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:52, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi HickoryOughtShirt?4...I appreciate the work you are doing. Please note that the referencing is evolving. I will do my best to curb the enthusiasm of the other contributor. Please note that significant amounts of the work are referenced to primary sources, and this referencing is developing. Question on deletion

there are million of animation studios are lisgin here, and you are offended by what I wrore ? why ? then delete others too. it is not fair for listing some but deleting others.

Gurlugun, thank you for asking me this question civilly and without the previous insult. You need to review Wikipedia's notability guidelines and make sure you have enough reliable sources to constitute an article. As well, you were writing in a promotional manner, which is the opposite of Wikipedia's goal. If you are connected with this studio, you must disclose it per our terms of use. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 01:39, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

I only added one true information there are milion of 3d animation are listing here, why dont you delete others but what I added ? (@HickoryOughtShirt?4:)

Gurlugun, Stop pasting comments out of order. You need to post your comments in this section and (also) stop vandalizing List of companies of Turkey. Listen, WP:Other stuff exists and the comment there are milion of 3d animation are listing here doesn't explain why your article was rejected. You are not listening to my advice. Hi... Seems like my messages are being ignored.

I thought that Wikipedia is about stating the facts, obviously not. Can someone please show me how to get the links and information certified / approved. A little research would even confirm what I've written. Its a critical part of Galmudug's history and your rudely overlooking it. Deleted Page, Ndukwe Onuoha

Hello,

I am a user creating an article for a Nigerian Poet and Advertising Creative Director, Ndukwe Onuoha. You deleted the page on the ground of unambiguous advertising and promotion. I did not intend to make it come off as a promotion of any sorts. I want to state, that I am not Ndukwe Onuoha.

I intend to rewrite the article, it is my first article, can you please help me with advice to avoid the same trappings.

Regards.

Hi Ndukadike and welcome to Wikipedia. I first wish to thank you for following our Terms of Use and declaring your conflict of interest directly on your userpage. This shows me that you're willing to listen and learn about how to edit Wikipedia properly. In saying this, I strongly recommend using WP:YFA for making a new article. This will allow experienced editors to go over the draft and make sure its an appropriate article. The article, which I believe is an autobiography, was not ready for mainspace and I am doubtful if it ever will be. I suggest reading over our WP:Notability criteria that every article on Wikipedia must abide by. If your only goal is being here to promote Onuoha then your stay here will be short. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 17:04, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Edit

No worries, that wasn't my intention, but I understand.

I am literally the world's foremost expert on the subject, and I thought you would want that kind of input on your pages.

My book is already a #1 Best Seller on Amazon in the Physics of Gravity, I don't need Wikipedia as a platform.

Please let me know how I can word things more properly, so as not to violate your conditions. Thank you.

RL PooleAuthor, RL Poole (talk) 23:18, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi Author, RL Poole, the reason your edit was reverted because it seemed as if you were trying to use Wikipedia as a platform by citing your book within articles. Expert editors can be very valuable contributors to Wikipedia, but they sometimes have a difficult time realizing that Wikipedia is a different environment from scholarly and scientific publishing. I suggest checking out Wikipedia:Expert editors which is a basic guideline for those who are considered experts. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 23:20, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for that, Ed. I used 2 different tools to locate the RfA and they both came up with RfA granted in 2017, which I found a bit odd, because there was no such admin name in the lists for 2017 (the same year in which the account was created). So obviously a software glitsh. Of course, I could have/should have continued looking, after all, as it turns out, I actually supported the RfA ☺️ Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 03:27, 20 September 2020 (UTC)

DYK for Kathy Arendsen

On 22 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Kathy Arendsen, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Kathy Arendsen had a windmill fastball pitch timed at 96 miles per hour (154 km/h)? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Kathy Arendsen. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Kathy Arendsen), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

deletion notification of page

recently there was a discussion on page of deletion regarding AkhilRajendra. I do support your actions on deletion of the page cause the movie it was described was stopped due to legal actions on the client. from then there is no contact with him either or so. as the one who created the page for him, i feel sorry for my actions and most of links which were references that time no longer exist now at this moment cause of the contravercy over the movie. as a person, i didnt want to enter in the discussion myself giving my positive vote for the deletion of article. i agree with you proceeding the deletion of it. and please dont involve my identity on our support. thanks.. and as "Kevin (alias) L235" said on Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Omshanti009 madentertainmentsindia and others will be stale in this matter because no one here wants to go in support of undeletion. all of us are really appreciating the actions of you towards the deletion. most of the wiki listers which the client has been referenced also have removed his links on their respective pages due to the contravercy happened with. and i hope that any user who is in support of the client also must be the same person on different ids as ishaan, omsanthi & akhilrajendra are all the same person himself SlayMaster (talk) 08:05, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

G11 article recreated

Hi Mr/Ms Hickory, Thank you for approving the G11 for National Action Plan on Climate Change (India) on 20 September. The following day, one of the main editors recreated the article at India's National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC). Just wondering if you could look into this please? Cheers, 1292simon (talk) 09:00, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi sir regarding India's National Action Plan for Climate Change (NAPCC). This a programme of government of India and is a notable topic complying WP:GNG. The creator i.e me is not attached to the subject anyhow. And WP:POV is taken care of as i have used only WP:Secondary third party source(except few) while creating it. Also this is my 15th article all previous were also clean. Last time i agree that i had put intro in such a manner that it seemed to be an advertisement. But now i have wrote it in fully encyclopeadic manner. If afterall you want some improvements please put requisite tag on the article. As a lot of hard work and readings is needed to create an article and i have full faith that you urself don't want to derail the hardworking editors who want to improve this encyclopedia. Also, see similar article exist on wikipedia i.e various government schemes: National Mission for Enhanced Efficiency, National Solar Mission and many more.So calling it G11 is a mistake by the nominators.Plz take ur descision with utmost care.Heba Aisha (talk) 17:34, 25 September 2020 (UTC)

Also see my recent activity on the article....i am reimproving it by expanding sections like National Mission for Sustainable Himalayan Ecosystem and National Solar Mission and National Mission for strategic knowledge of climate change. Actually this programme's component (2 only) are on wikipedia as seperate article but noone created it as a whole. In couple of days i will reimprove it.....if you want to give any useful advice.... i m waiting for it. Thank youHeba Aisha (talk) 19:07, 25 September 2020 (UTC)
Also plz see the discussion is taking place on WP:ANI against the particular nominator whose comments lies above. There seems to have problems about his knowledge in this particular area i.e governance and that's y he is nominating the article with no policy violation for delition. Though i m comparatively new but am aware of various policies and this article had got clean approval from new page reviewr too.Heba Aisha (talk) 01:51, 26 September 2020 (UTC)

@HickoryOughtShirt?4: Simple Internet Search (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 04:50, 30 September 2020 (UTC))

Merriam Morton Webster, OK, there are still so many problems here. Firstly, why would you name an article Norman C Parrott if he absolutely goes by Cole first? Secondly, you absolutely don't own that photo used in the article and I am subsequently nominating it for deletion Thirdly, this doesn't show he passes any of our WP:Notability criteria and will likely never make it to the mainspace. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 04:53, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@HickoryOughtShirt?4: His Father is the CEO of a Major Corp and his Mother Miss Alaska USA. He is also on Draft to the NFL however I cant find those sources. Those Photos were taken on behalf of the Colorado Sports Sanctionment. They are Public and Open source images. Before you nominate things dig deeper and determine the valididty through research. None of my submitted edits should be deleted. (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 04:58, 30 September 2020 (UTC)) @HickoryOughtShirt?4:

I suggest checking out our notability guidelines I stated above. Firstly, Notability is not inherited so his parents mean jack squat. Secondly, just being drafted (or the possibility of it) doesn't qualify for a Wikipedia article per WP:NGRIDIRON. I am trying to help you, please heed my advice. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:01, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Merriam Morton Webster, there is also no need to ping me, I automatically get pinged since this is my talk page HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:01, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

https://bluegreyfootball.com/cole-parrott-dl-northern-colorado/ He is All american as per defined in the wikipedia requirements. (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 05:07, 30 September 2020 (UTC)) It is necessary to understand that you have to be all american to be drafted. That's why he qualifies. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Merriam Morton Webster (talkcontribs) 05:09, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Merriam Morton Webster, Nowhere does it say that people who were high school All-Americans qualify for an article. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:10, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

It is important to understand this is not a highschool student, this is a professional adult all american player. Highschool studets cannot be drafted. He is being drafted and is an ADULT All American PLayer for thr professional leagues. In regards to the hotel-- it is legitimate info found on the website so why was it declined.? (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 05:16, 30 September 2020 (UTC))

Merriam Morton Webster, He's a college athlete not a professional one and it says he's a redshirt freshman at that! I feel you are misunderstanding what I am saying, he does not meet our guidelines. Secondly, the hotel has 0 sources On your user page you literally wrote To prevent such vandalistic behavior we have provided full sources from reputable establishments. Wikipedia is a collection of information as so written as an encyclopedia. Where are your sources then? HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:18, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

I Added the source which i used for the hotel, there is no point in arguing the facts. we both have researched and know that the hotel is legitimate so why decline. I am in contribution to a better encyclopedia. Also most colledge athletes redshirt their first year. If you did your research you would know that he redshirted in 2018 due to a hip replacement and an ACL tear. (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 05:27, 30 September 2020 (UTC))

Merriam Morton Webster, Just because something exists doesn't mean it deserves a Wikipedia article. Most elementary and middle schools are without articles because they are deemed not notable enough. Once again, you haven't shown the hotel nor Parrott qualify for articles. I am done going back and forth, I've told you what to do to move forward (find more sources) and I am washing my hands. You are displaying WP:IDHT behaviour HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:30, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@HickoryOughtShirt?4: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Florence_Muller https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Florence_M%C3%BCller Also Barron Trump Please Approve Thanks. (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 05:50, 30 September 2020 (UTC)) (Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 05:58, 30 September 2020 (UTC))

Ya no, there's no sources. I said I was done here, I'm not discussing this anymore. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:03, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

@HickoryOughtShirt?4: Florence Muller arcticle has 20 citations at the bottom. You need to be cooperative rather than dismissing. We are al working torward the same goal.(Merriam Morton Webster (talk) 06:11, 30 September 2020 (UTC))

Merriam Morton Webster, I am under no obligation to assist you. Most AfC drafts can take weeks or months to review, there is no reason for me to expedite that process. Secondly, Draft:Florence Müller has zero references and has already been rejected by Theroadislong and Dan arndt. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 06:17, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

What?

You left a warning on my page. I https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alexander_Calvert&diff=981083753&oldid=981083671 removed an odd first sentence at the top of the article, "Born Alexander Caleb Calvert", which was a very odd first sentence. You then reverted back to an old version that does not have this odd sentence. Why did you leave a warning on my page?--Nagkar (talk) 05:23, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Nagkar, you added his parents were Misha Collins, Jensen Ackles. HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:24, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
I did not mean to do that. I must have edit the old version https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Alexander_Calvert&oldid=980577272 because I was looking at all the name changes.--Nagkar (talk) 05:28, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
Nagkar, No worries, thanks for attempting to remove vandalism though . HickoryOughtShirt?4 (talk) 05:31, 30 September 2020 (UTC)
